But if you go here thinking it's a pretty chill bar/pub that welcomes families and also happens to have some pretty great food (especially for BRUNCH!), then you'll likely be quite happy. Their soups are quite good. As are their french fries. My tender vegetarian heart is warmed again and again by the numerous ways Smarty Pants makes me feel welcome with delicious field roast offerings on sandwiches and brunch options. 4 stars for me, but 2 from hubby, making this review a total of 3 stars. I really enjoyed my corned beef hash and made the mistake of ordering a side of hash browns. Lordy, that was such a greedy, unnecessary thing to do on my part. That said, I got some wonderful food for later. For you carbaholics, worth it to note that when they give you toast, it's not 2 whole slices, but rather one slice they cut in half so it looks like 2. Not gonna quibble because I had other carbs to consume, but for toast lovers out there, this may make them annoyed. The corned beef hash is made there and it's a *very* generous portion. It is not overly salty. Hubby ordered South Side Spuds with vegetarian sausage that was an added $3...now the description for the dish read "Yukon Gold potatoes, apples, onion, garlic, and cheddar cheese.". What came looked like a plate of potatoes (yea, we know, it's the first ingredient), but there were no apples, no onions, no garlic and a few shards of cheddar cheese. The vegetarian sausage looked a bit unappealing, just hanging out and looking a little out of place. It was also incredibly dry. I wasn't too keen on the way it tasted, though texture-wise it was fine. I'd go back, but not sure if hubby would be all for going. After going shopping at a children's sale for our granddaughter, we decided to have lunch at Smarty Pants Garage. The three of shared a chicken, and a Italian sandwich with Cole slaw and French fries. There was plenty of meat in the sandwiches and there was plenty of fries to share. Great service. read more

Great staff and tasty food. My buddy and I brought our kids in here after a day at the park, and if you know kids, that can be a bit dodgy. We were able to get a table in the back and the staff was very accommodating with our rambunctious toddlers, even when my son spilled his water all over the place and my buddy's son kept yelling like a banshee. Seriously it was a classic "probably should have headed home after the park for naps, but I want to chill with a beer like an adult for once" scenario, but the Smarty Pants crew (and the other patrons - sorry) handled it like champs. And like I said, the food was tasty and the kids pancakes got gobbled-up. Bottom-line, I've always liked the Georgetown Smarty's, and I'm extremely happy the Burien location is great too. Love the ambiance and think it brings something fun to downtown Burien. We have been several times and servers have always been nice, but obviously over-worked (not their fault)- especially during brunch on the weekend. The place is kid-friendly, which makes sense since it is a restaurant in the 'burbs, but I had to change my daughter's diaper on the floor of the bathroom! Food is casual but delicious, especially the soups. Love the Italian beef, it's real deal Chicago style. I've only had beer here but they have a fun little cocktail list. Vibe is friendly and laid back, we normally sit at the bar but the patio is nice too. Big open garage door across front is nice on summer nights. This place is a little tricky to find, it's off the main drag behind Grand Central Bakery. Parking is free and plentiful. read more

I've been here many times. The food is consistently very good and the service is great. They have enough craft beers on tap to keep you interested. The restaurant is clean and spacious and they have an enclosed, outdoor seating area that is a nice place to hang out in the summer. read more

Since they opened I've been trying to find a reason to dislike this place. I've been in the restaurant industry for almost 6 years and this place runs a tight ship. In the three months or so they have been open I have seen the owner at least 50% of the time which is impressive! The service has been amazing! The staff was quick to make me feel like a regular and remembered my drink within the first two weeks. Amazing food selection. The menu knows what it is! And the food is on point. Comes out hot and quick. Most importantly my order is correct. The staff may be the only thing better than the food! Always smiling and friendly! They seem to love where they work. Which I feel is paramount! In conclusion. I can't find a reason to hate the place. The early Sunday closing time is a bummer but I probably should be getting ready for my week anyway! read more

I was intrigued that these guys have a 3 & 1/2 average. I was very surprised @ how expensive their menu items were. I ordered a turkey panini & cole slaw & fries for my mom. I had the tomato soup, chili & cheese panini. The fries were probably the worst of the lot. They tasted like they recycled them from another plate. 2nd worst was the chili. It tasted like they put sugar in it. Is that a thing now? 3rd worst or better was the sandwich. The bread was very dense. Would be very good for garlic cheese bread. My cheese sandwich was very good. I could make 1 better @ home for a 1/5 of the price. My soup was so so. Too much pepper. The music was super loud. Very claustrophobic in there. I would not recommend this place. Subway is like a block away. Much better meal for way less money. That subway is probably the 2nd best I have been to. read more

I brought my friend to Smarty Pants for her birthday because my husband and I have loved their food. My friend accidentally spilled her drink on their rickety outdoor metal table with a hole in the middle for a missing umbrella. Waitress charged us for the replacement drink and charged us more than the first drink. First one happy hour $6.50 second one $11.50. They also served me the wrong salad and I ordered a particular one because of a restrictive diet I'm on. We gave our credit cards before seeing the bill and they came back with a bill that included the double drinks for my friend with the birthday and the extra salad from me. She voided the charge on our card for the salad but not the 2nd drink for our friend and got a snotty answer that somebody needed to pay for it! My husband and I have got take out/dined there every couple weeks they've been open during covid tipping generously. I'm offended and I don't think I'll go back. What a shame! read more

The food was good but the service on a Wed night was very poor. I understand when it's busy, the wait may increase. But when it's died down and our table has sat for 40 minutes, and had a rude server not even bring drinks we ordered after 25 minutes?.. we asked to take our meals to go as we were going to become late for a business meeting. He told us to be patient and walked away. The minimal staff did not appear to be in any kind of hurried state to serve their customers. We won't be back again any time soon read more

Such a bummer of a place. The newest bartenders are rude and no fun and the food that gets tired once you've had it more than once. They serve wine out of cups and only have one red. Even when the bartenders were new the service was poor but at least they were nicer. There are better places to visit nearby. read more

This a very busy place on a Friday night though you can still be seated in 5-10 mins. Sandwiches are outstanding; Ms Piggy and Pitboss to be exact. And you should order a side of the trouble sauce, so bomb! I love the vibe and how friendly the staff are. We would definitely go back. We had a terrible time last night 4/28/17 the waitress was so RUDE! As hell! I came here on a snowy day with one of my co-workers for lunch. The parking lot is pretty much always packed. I'd been to the one in Georgetown before, but figured this one might be different. I got the meatball sandwich with fries and a diet coke. Sadly, the experience wasn't great. The service was slow. Don't get me wrong, everyone was polite, but it took a while after being seated to actually get service. I didn't get a refill on soda until I asked for one when the check was brought. The fries were really quite good. The texture was great, they weren't over-seasoned, and the size of the cut was very good. Sadly, the meatball sandwich was not great. There weren't enough meatballs for the amount of bread they came in. The sauce had very little flavor to it. One of the people got a turkey sandwich that had one super-thin single slice of turkey on the whole sandwich. All in all, it did not inspire me to return. read more

The sandwiches are still good, but someone has broken their potato salad. I've tried their Georgetown location and was not happy with the whipped potato salad they had there. Thinking it was just their version, I went back to the Burien location, which used to make it with big chunks. I will miss the old potato salad. I ordered my usual, the Thunderbird and my boyfriend tried the burger. They were good. The service was 'seat yourself' and many tables were dirty when we walked in, but customer service was friendly.
