Me luv's a good sammich, here they tend to know what they are going. Lunch specials during the weekdays are always interesting and tasty. While I have been here during the workday, sadly, I have not had the chance to test the bartender's skills, but I do plan to do that soon. Bar looks well stocked and several interesting brews on tap, for those who enjoy something stronger...ahem...belly up to the bar! Weekday lunch specials run $7-8-ish bucks, choice of chips and salsa, coleslaw or sub the soup of the day for a little more, oh soooo YUMMY! I tried the Chili, it was packed full of goodies, while it wasn't Texas competition chili, and around here what is, the chili, with beans, was damn tasty. AMAZING BRUNCH. My friend and I try new brunch places about every week and this was a BIG yes on our list. After reading reviews about the Monte Cristo we thought, "sure but let's try something else too". We opted for the Troublemaker Pile up and the Monte Cristo. This is the kind of place you walk away from remembering the food. If you're normal. Not me, oh no. I walked out of here thinking about the art. Totally stuffed and happy from the food, but thinking about the art. I mean seriously, this may be the best sandwich place in town. Or at least on the south side. You'd think the most memorable moment was that first bite of whatever it was that I ordered. It was so good it wiped my memory. Slightly spicy and chunks of chicken. That's all I remember. Mmm. I love that they serve vittles late into the night (or at least they did on the night a raucous Dead Baby Bicycle Club party was in the 'hood), and that even after 11pm, the wait staff gave us zero attitude. How Smarty Pants won its stars: --The food arrived in a jiffy; --They had $1.50 PBRs on the menu (as if we needed any more beer after chugging it out of bike bottles all night long) --I (heart) Field Roast; --Smarty Pants enabled me to eat the first veggie Reuben I've had in years. Thank you for indulging my infrequently nurtured sauerkraut habit!!! --Chill interior with Real Live Motorcycles on the wall; and, --A patio that's friggin' huge. Or maybe it just seemed that way, after I was crammed into an alley with 450 screaming people for a few hours. Things they could stand to improve on for next time: the slaw was just "meh". The chips & salsa that my man had were straight outta boring-town. And the winning side dish appeared to be my friend's potato salad. Made with baby reds and a bit "eggy", it was way more delish than the other two options. I'd passed by Smarty Pants many times before actually trying it out. It wasn't off-putting or anything. I just hadn't found the time to check them out yet. When I finally did, I was glad I did so. Smarty Pants is the kind of 'dive' I like. They're a great place to stop in for a sandwich and a couple of beers. The beer selection isn't huge, but they do always have at least a couple of local micro-brews on tap, as well as PBR for those who want it. Full bar as well, but so far I've stuck with beer. The sandwich menu at Smarty Pants is extensive, with more than 20 different sandwiches to chose from. Most of the sandwich choices seem to be a good value for what you get (they're quite large), but I'd balk a bit at paying $8 for an egg salad sandwich or $9.50 for a tuna salad sandwich. The happy hour menu has a few good valued choices as well. They also have some good, basic appetizers (Chips & Salsa, Quesadilla, hummus, etc.), soups and salads. So far, I've stuck with just sandwiches - and been happy with each one (I've had: Firecracker, Troublemaker, Miss Piggy and the Chickenhawk). They serve a full brunch on Saturdays & Sundays from 9 AM to 4 PM as well, but I haven't had breakfast there yet. I'll have to go soon and update this review or write another one. I tell you what, everything here is great and perfectly skirts the line between traditional and original, without trying too hard to be different. There's just enough "kick" to each sandwich - whether you get the pulled pork, the "cheese steak", BLT or even the frito pie or taco salad, you won't be disappointed. This is really a reinvention of an east coast sandwich shop but with some Seattle flavor. I can't speak highly enough about the selection either - plenty of choices for pretty much everyone, without being so overwhelming that they're just throwing things on the menu you know are going to suck due to lack of attention/thought. As an added bonus, if you bring vegetarians, not only are there a couple of explicitly vegetarian options, but you can substitute field roast on any of the sandwiches. Great idea. Sometimes the service can be spotty during the lunch rush, but never so bad that I've felt like storming out, so maybe I deduct one star for that. And per the norm in Georgetown the inside of the place has a cool vibe, art and plenty of beer selections - not that I drink at lunch (that often). read more

I was not expecting this type of place before I went here. It was very open, very bar like, but comfortable. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and they have a full bar :). The menu is pretty big and consists of sandwiches, salads, and apps. The portions are a decent size and filling. I think it would make great take out too. Parking can be hard. There seems like a lot of lots around, but I was afraid to park in a lot, not knowing if my car would be towed or if anyone cared. I found street parking a couple blocks away. Btw I love the Gerogetown neighborhood. This was my first trip to Georgetown, which is long overdue since I live 2 minutes away. I was rather impressed with the variety of cool shops in such a small area, as Rebecca L. said "you could probably spend a few hours on just this one block." Well said. The atmosphere is probably my favorite thing about the place; low-key and relatively quiet, with an appealing simplicity to it, like a rough-hewn lounge, stripped of the superfluous velour, cushions and cool. Kinda like a friend's back porch, but with a bartender and kitchen service on tap. This is something to be appreciated if you value conversations that don't leave your vocal chords in tatters. We sat outside at a table with a mysterious metal pan in the middle, setup like Benihana, but without the Asian guy in the middle flipping shrimp about. We came here after checking out 9 Lb Hammer; the drinks were really cheap, and my "Gringa" pork sandwich was pretty dang tasty. (and would have been more so if I wasn't forced to wolf it down) Next time I'll have to check out those hashbrowns or a bacon martini. read more

Cool, in that slightly masochistic, "too hip for your tired ass" motorcycle club kind of way. "So you want something?" Was the opening line from our waitress. Memorable, but less than endearing as an introduction. Once we proved that we were not snobby-from-other-places-in-Seattlites by striking up conversation, she was more than decent and kicked down some schweet stickers for us to put on our...non-existant motorcycles/helmets? trendy stainless steel waterbottles? foreheads? Macs? Seems kinda like asking for trouble to slap that one on the car... In subsequent visits I've had really stellar (and equally quirky) service at the bar and consistently good food (haven't met a SP sandwich that didn't belong in my belly and don't get me started on the Nachos). Plus their bathroom sticker/graffiti fest is top notch. Highly recomend happy hour and weekdays if you want to hang out. Gets a little crazy on the weekend nights, but it's a bar, so that's good, right? Food is great, beer is cheap, and the patio is fantastic in the "What-Summer?-This-Is-Seattle-Dumbass" time of year, or later in the warm and fabulous autumn. It's is the kind of place that will make you want to get a full sleeve and/or a cafe racer (or a vespa, this IS Seattle), then spend all afternoon on the patio with a couple pints of PBR and a few of your riding buddies. read more

I've been here for lunch or happy hour a few times with co-workers and have always had a good meal. The staff are friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. Prices are fair and I am always able to find close parking, despite the fact that it is in the ever-busy Georgetown area. Last visit I had the Club Pants and I definitely recommend that highly. The avocado spread is delicious and the sandwich had plenty of meat. Nom! Another time I had the Turkey & Avocado and I would recommend that as well. Wish they would give you more salsa when you choose the chips and salsa as your side - I loooove pico de gallo and their stuff is super, super good. read more

Yum yum yum. Have I told you lately how much I love sandwiches? Atmosphere: Inside the bar is very dark and not the most comfortable. But outside, they have managed to achieve a nice lil patio! They used bamboo along gates to shield from the parking lots around the bar and it totally works. Great music, umbrellas for shade. Service: Don't come here if you are in a hurry. The food doesn't always come out lightning fast and everything is very laid back. We come here after we do the major to-do's in the day. Food: Delicious sandwiches! I generally get the grilled cheese & my hubby gets the Troublemaker. I get the chips and salsa as a side or the potato salad as a side. Everything we eat there, we love. After perusing tile choices near the Design Center, we found our way here and cozied up to the outdoor firepit, right next to a foursome who looked like they'd wandered off from their cruise ship group. How cute that the parents are checking out the edgy hood! But they looked like they'd enjoyed their meal, and I looked forward to ours as well. I think we ordered exactly what Mary and Dave did, except I had the pork and Chris had the chicken. It was good. A solid good. We both had cole slaw, and I think that was weak choice, but I wanted a side that I wouldn't actually eat (part of my diet strategy. It worked!) so I didn't get the chips or potato salad. Service was good but then we had to bring the check up to the bar to finish things up since our server was chatting with someone. No worries. We're easy like that. We'd go back. Seriously, this place has got to be one the best breakfasts in town... served with plenty of surliness and a heap of trouble on the side!!! Literally, a heap of trouble is the name of one of their breakfasts and it has this sauce they call trouble and its served on the side! Man is it freaking DEEEEE-LISH! Not that it matters, but I can also personally attest to the fact that the Corned Beef Hash is pretty damn good too. But, the GF would totally be correct in that her Heap of Trouble was way better! We topped off our breakfast with a couple of the best Bloody Mary's we've had in a long time and all that mixed with a little Danzig and we were in heaven... Nothing says breakfast like "Not about to see your light, And if you wanna find hell with me, I can show you what its like , Till your bleeding" and some back bacon! I've been to this place a few times and love their sandwiches, but I sometime dislike the 'attitude for attitudes' sake that comes with a select few of the personnel. Smarty Pants has a silly name, true, but there is nothing silly about the food and beverages at this establishment. I don't know why it's called Smarty Pants. Most of the people wear pants who work there (there is an occasional skirt or short or possibly a skort) but there isn't anything particularly intelligent about the pants. I suppose it's a better name than Fancy Pants where everyone would wear pants like George Washington and look foolish. Anyway, I love this joint. I'd give it 5 stars but the wait for your sandwich is sometimes longer than I think it should be. Other than that, the service is always really good and the sandwiches are excellent. I love their Troublemaker, Chickenhawk, and Pit Boss sandwiches. For their weekend breakfast you can't beat their Huevos Panteros or the Troublemaker Pileup. Seriously delicious grub at this joint. I wandered into Smarty Pants on a not-so-busy Monday night and was promptly greeted at the bar and ordered my beer and was offered a menu. While the beer was cheap and tasty, the menu was neither. Most of the sandwich options were nothing special or distinctive, but one roast beef sandwich with pickled veggies on it sounded appealing, but when I learned the veggies included cauliflower, I switched to their "L'il Philly". First off, someone should let them know in the kitchen here that you don't attach the word "Philly" to a roast beef sandwich, even if it does have cheese, peppers & onions, but never mind. I passed on the lackluster side dishes (not everyone likes a side of mayo or vinegar soaked veggies!) and made only one request: no onions. My sandwich arrived, and I was flabbergasted at the lack of substance. First off, despite my request for just "no onions", they left *all* veggies off. Is it so hard to put just peppers on the sandwich, or at least ask? And though the bread was big, the beef was not. For $10, I expect a meal, not glorified Subway. I'm also disappointed by what I see as an alarming trend: restaurants offering inherently unhealthy side dishes, and then charging ridiculously high prices to swap those sides out for a healthy side salad Smarty Pants is a perpetrator of this as well. Really? $2.50? When I can buy a beer for less than a salad, that's just wrong. read more

This is a really cool, enjoyable and local place to grab a really really good breakfast. The corn beef hash was AMAZING, I would definitely order this again and again. I was very surprised with this place. Passed by a million times but never got the change to check it out. Ordered the Gringa and a vodka tonic and was very surprised with the sandwich. Very flavorful with just the right amount of seasoning. The potato salad was bland as wood and I should have ordered the chili as it looked delicious with cheese and green onions. My only major gripe is the booze. Ordered vodka and tonic and there was about three drops of vodka. I understand that booze is expensive but don't short the customer. read more

If you don't like reading long reviews, let me sum this one up for you: Just go to Smarty Pants. Delicious, reasonably priced, and a great atmosphere. Now instead of reading my review you can go and eat there.... Ahhh....Smarty Pants. I truly love this place. Okay, so maybe now I've only eaten there 3 or 4 times, but it is enough to earn my appreciation. The restaurant itself just has a great feel. There is a complete mix of people and generally a good atmosphere. The food here is great. Brunch has super fresh ingredients. Once when we were there they made an announcement that any egg dishes would take a few extra minutes because they ran out and somebody had to go to the store and get more. For food that fresh, it's worth the wait. (Or as fresh as food as the grocery store sells). The service is usually pretty good. I was there over the weekend and they were having some staffing issues and service lacked a bit, but nothing that most places don't go through. The waitress was very apologetic - it was only her second day and she was struggling to keep up with the lunch rush. However, my previous experiences with this place negates the bad service over the weekend and lets Smarty Pants keep all 5 stars! read more

I was in Georgetown looking for used pizza warmers at Monarch Trading. And I was HUNGRY. We tried Calamity Jane's last week. After so many reviews and talk of Smarty Pants, I just had to try. I had a Troublemaker and potato salad. I love a good home made potato salad. The troublemaker was Deslih! 5 stars for it! Why only 3 then? Well, minus 2 for the lazy person who made the potato salad. Their use small red potatoes, nice touch! The potato salad was a bit drier than I like, minus 1/2 star. The BIG problem with it was, half of the "Salad" turned out to be two halves of red potatoes that were still in one big piece - minus 1 1/2 stars. If they had bothered to cut them up into potato salad, I would have only stolen one star!! read more

If you don't like it, you'd be better off heading towards some other part of town; Georgetown's just not your type of neighborhood. So, I've recently started a new job and been working in Georgetown for several months now. Smarty Pants has quickly become my favorite lunch and afterwork drinking spot! First off for lunch they sandwiches rock! So far I've had the pleasure of eating the: Troublemaker (my favorite), Chickenhawk (2nd favorite), Ms. Piggy, and the Chicago Italian Beef with Cheese. If I wasn't already at home I would soo be there right now for dinner! Sandwiches are toasted to perfection! Afterwork, they have really good deals on their happy hour food and drink specials. The sandwich sampler plate is the bomb! As well as the nachos- OMG! Their kitchen staff rawks! One talented group of chefs in there. There are 3 large plasma tv's usually with some sort of motorcycle racing on. Great selection of microbrews- some local and some not. Only gripe, they have Coca-Cola in the can... The bartenders are all knowledgeable with food, drink motorbikes, music scene and are friendly too. If you're into Motorbikes then every Wed at 7pm is Bike Night and the street is packed with all sorts of motorcycles. It's actually a pretty amazing sight all the rare and unique bikes that people have in this city. As with most stuff in Georgetown- parking is on the street and gets packed up on most nights. While writing a review for a poor attempt at a vegetarian rueben for another Seattle establishment I found myself directing them to Smarty Pants. I then realized that I have ever written a review for Smarty Pants - and everyone should know what a great spot it is! Disclaimer: I do not like ruebens but my husband cannot get enough of Smarty Pants vegetarian rueben! He tries to mimic it at home but never quite gets it. We have had a variety of sandwiches and drinks at Smarty Pants over the past few years and we are never disappointed. The service is spot on, the clientele they draw in is friendly, and they even let our little pooch hang with us on the patio! My experience with Smarty Pants was through their catering/box lunch program, so I can't speak to the restaurant or service itself. I understand that there is only so much you can do with standard picnic fare.. sandwiches, potato salad, etc. However, my company recently hired Smarty Pants for a company picnic and it sucked. Big time. For $600 we received the following (in boxes, which we had to pick up): 75 sandwiches of varying styles (turkey, veggie, tuna .. I think), a bowl of potato salad, a green salad and a bowl of pasta salad. The bowls were probably about 2-3lbs each, a good amount. The sandwich bread was pretty large too. However the sandwiches themselves were bad. The veggie had cheese (swiss, maybe?), some strange avacado-ish spread, red onions, lettuce, tomato and about a pound of mayo. While the "toppings" took up only maybe a quarter of the "sandwich", the bread was too much and not even good. Just generic white hoagie-ish type bread, no flavor, nothing. The other sandwiches were the same kind of deal.. some meat, a ton of mayo, some lettuce, etc. The salads were even sadder though, they were all just horrible. I've had better salad from a ten pound tub from Costco. Just awful. I would never, EVER get catering from Smarty Pants again, the food was mediocre at best and way overpriced for what it was. read more

2.5 stars. For what I'm about to say, they deserve LESS than the 2.5 stars given.. So my husband use to go to smarty pants for late night HH or whatnot with his buddies. He gets the same stuff everytime, pull pork sammich and potato salad. I'm unaware of the name fancy smancy name they may use but you get the point.. Pull pork sandwich. Hubby would bring me an order of the sandwich and potato salad, so by the time I get it the meal is cold and needed to be reheated. With that being said, the meal is DELICIOUS!! BUT! The last couple of times we have found hair in the sandwich and potato salad. Two different occasions and its unacceptable. read more

Great outdoor seating that allows small (well behaved) dogs. All the food is excellent and would certainly be a good cure for a hangover. I suggest the Eggs Benedict if you are there for breakfast. The Pulled Pork sandwich is very good as well. read more

I went to Georgetown that seemed to be abandon after the Communist nuked it during the cold war in the 1950's and a band of punks reformed it in a post apocalyptic town.One of the outposts i went to was Smarty Pants. I first saw it at arttopia but was too crowed the smell wanted me to come back.When i came back to try the food that I really wanted to love . The Vibe the punk rock waitresses and the food smelled awesome. I ordered the little Philly(it's a phillycheese steak) it was OK,not great there was a huge crowed inside at the time they opened with tattooed artists and mid life yuppies . did i order something crappy everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had as i looked around. I can say I've never eaten in Georgetown until today and Smarty Pants was the place! It was a neat little spot, right across from the old Rainier brewing factory, and has a great little dive bar yet cleaner kind of feel. There are old motorcycles and old photos decking out the place, there is a patio to sit on, and it's just has a pretty cool feel overall. I feel bad rating it a three, but I've heard such great things about it since I tweeted about going there, asking for recommendations, and a few people were super stoked about it. It may have just been one of those days, but it actually took us an hour to get our sandwiches which was a bit disappointing. The place was really packed for lunch, but wow, were we hungry by the time they arrived. The server was nice, but I could tell she was really busy since she didn't smile very much, forgot our one sandwiches, forks, and water for a while. It happens, I totally understand, and I'm more than willing to give this place another try :) The prices are appropriate, the food was good (I had a turkey avocado sandwich with potato salad) and it was a hefty sized sandwich. My tummy was happy. I would like to try some other sandwiches or dishes next time because my sandwich was good, but I have a feeling there are some tastier things on the menu.
