Lucky Shotz - Perch and potato pancakes

I got mozzarella logs for an appetizer and went with perch and potato pancakes for the entree. The menu says the mozzarella logs were Italian breaded, but my waitress informed me that they instead had wonton style. In addition to being wonton wrapped it was almost like they were battered, but very dryly so there was a dust or powder on the outside that was kind of unpleasant. If this is a permanent change in style I wouldn't get them again. I really enjoyed the potato pancakes. They were clearly homemade and had some nice crispy edges. I appreciate that they came with both syrup and applesauce by default because I will always ask for syrup for my potato pancakes and having applesauce too is a bonus. I'd venture that most places that serve perch do it with beer batter. Having it breaded with cornmeal was certainly different. I don't think the breading accentuated the flavor of the perch like beer batter does and maybe even covered it up more than I would have liked, but I enjoyed the crispiness it achieved. The menu didn't specify lake perch or yellow perch, so I was expecting something cheaper like pike perch when it said the meal came with five pieces. Instead, it was yellow perch, which is fantastic, but I find it odd they give you two and a half butterflies instead of a full three. Raise the price a little if you need to and give us the full third butterfly.

We got a Mile High Reuben and a Pastrami Sandwich. Both had a good portion of very tender smoked meats, and they were served hot. The marble rye was nicely toasted. The order of onion rings was huge. They were hand-breaded with a decent amount of flavor. There was a mix of different sizes, but lots of little pieces, which made them a bit tedious to eat. Service: Super friendly and helpful service. You grab a seat and order at the bar. The food came out in short order. Atmosphere: It's an interesting-looking place, both inside and out. Outside you pass the barbecue that's fired up and smoking the meats. Inside, it has a low ceiling with lots of mugs, over 2,500 of them, that are numbered and belong to customers. There was lots of friendly banter going on between patrons and staff. There were only a few other small groups there, and it was a bit noisy for my tastes. A great place for an excellent sandwich.

I understand that this is a hole in the wall type of establishment, but I think it's so weird that you sit at the table to look at the menu, and then go up to the counter to order. Then you get your drinks and you go sit back down. It's a pretty small place, there's only about a dozen tables total So it fills up very quickly! It wasn't too busy when we arrived. We sat down and decided what we wanted, and then my friend and I went up to the counter to order. There were three of us total. We waited over an hour before my friend's boyfriend finally got up to go check on the status of our food. There were four tables around us that came to the restaurant after we got there, and all got their food before us. He came back and said that the waiter told him that the food should be out any minute. Then the guy who was at the counter who took our order, came over to the table a couple minutes later and said "that was my bad guys, I forgot to hit fire, it'll be about 20 minutes", meaning he forgot to send the order to the kitchen. We waited over an hour before he finally came and told us that. Our food came out about 25 minutes later, and then we left shortly after we finished eating. My friend and her boyfriend said the salmon was OK, but it wasn't great. I really enjoyed my fish fry, especially the potato crusted one. I also tried the potato cakes and they were mediocre and not hot. Overall, super disappointed with this entire visit. They didn't come out and apologize, they didn't offer anything, and it was just a really terrible experience overall having to wait that long. Period.

Parking is convenient. Street level entrance was another plus. Once inside we were greeted with a well decorated establishment that appeared to be well maintained and clean. After sitting down, the staff wasted no time coming to take our orders. We had burgers and fries with one orange juice and one soda. The food was absolutely delicious. Both my older son and I thought this sounded amazing so we stopped in on a Friday night to try it. We both got fries for our side. The burger was great as expected. Breading and deep frying the lasagna helped prevent it from being a mess and they added enough marinara to give it flavor without overpowering anything. The fries were lightly salted, but were otherwise just boring, plain potato. Apparently 6pm on a Friday is a horrible time to visit Brazen Head Pub if you want to be seated in a reasonable timeframe. My son and I stood there for at least 20 minutes watching a table that was done eating and the gentleman and his credit card in hand, ready to pay if someone would ever stop and give him his bill. While this was going on, another couple at the bar finished their food and sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting for their check. It's almost as if the employees had no desire to turnover tables even with a line at the door including and behind us. There were three people bartending/waiting tables so they had plenty of coverage given the smaller size of the place. At one point, closer to the end of our meal, one of the bartenders looked at my son and I and asked "are you guys good?" as he was literally walking away from us and I was holding up an empty soda glass to show him I'd like a refill. Oddly, he gave me a thumbs up and kept going. I don't even know what to make of that other than poor service. The music that was playing was excessively loud. If it was a live band, I'd get it, that's part of the show and I wouldn't complain. For random music on speakers to drown out all conversations unless you're yelling, that's dumb.

I did the "build a burger" option and got a loaded smash burger on a potato bun. All the toppings were excellent and the bun was as well (my friends refer to me as a "bun snob" and I usually like a Sheboygan Hard Roll but the Potato Roll was excellent). I took the order to go and it was about ten minutes until I got home so I was expecting to pop my fries in the air fryer but that wasn't needed as they were still very crisp. The malt was rich, thick and quite filling. The kitchen was full of employees and it looked like they were training the new kids which is a good sign for the summer. You will wait for your food as it is made fresh but I would rather do that than get some premade crap at a fast food joint. Overall, I would rate this as good as Wayne's Drive In in Cedarburg as the quality of everything was very good!

The hot dog was good but the fish sandwich was a bit greasy and heavy. We snitched some fries from my sisters and they were just OK. The prices were reasonable.
