I'd venture that most places that serve perch do it with beer batter. Having it breaded with cornmeal was certainly different. I don't think the breading accentuated the flavor of the perch like beer batter does and maybe even covered it up more than I would have liked, but I enjoyed the crispiness it achieved. The menu didn't specify lake perch or yellow perch, so I was expecting something cheaper like pike perch when it said the meal came with five pieces. Instead, it was yellow perch, which is fantastic, but I find it odd they give you two and a half butterflies instead of a full three. Raise the price a little if you need to and give us the full third butterfly.

I called in an order to go for a four piece cod dinner with seasoned waffle fries and cheese curds as an appetizer. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve crappy cornmeal breaded cheese curds that don't get crunchy and retain too much grease, the cheese curds at Nuckleheadz are true breaded cheese curds that get perfectly crunchy. I wish every every restaurant would serve the right kind like Nuckleheadz does, but I guess that's one of the things that makes Nuckleheadz special. Speaking of special, I LOVE it when the breading on fish has herbs and/or spices mixed in. It just gives the fish a little something extra. The herbs that Nuckleheadz puts in the batter they use on their cod (maybe their other fish too, I'm not sure) are phenomenal. I'm not usually big on cod, but I'm big on their cod because of it. Seasoned waffle fries are the king of all fries so that was a no-brainer.
