Found this place on Yelp and it didn't disappoint, I hope the business picks up, when I was there I was the only person there granted it was 3pm. It can be hard to find due it only having a Grand opening sign. I got the spicy Tuna bowl, it was nice and flavorful, but i really didn't get any heat from it. The staff, and service at Smilefin Poke was attentive, friendly, and fast. The location itself was clean and well lit providing a natural and comfortable ambiance while eating. With minimalistic design and decorations the space itself was open and easy to enjoy. The overall experience was great. We came in, immediately ordered and were eating within about 5 min. (For two orders) The food itself was exactly what we were looking for. Fresh, filling, but not too heavy. The portion sizes were great, not too little and not too much. I had the salmon create your own poke and my fiance had the marinated tuna. Both were delicious, and with the number of options they had we were able to completely customize each of our bowls specifically to our tastes. They offered both cooked, and raw options with hibachi as an alternative to poke, and even with all the choices the menu was extremely easy to read and digest (pun intended). Overall it's great to see something new in sarasota, and we will definitely coming back to try the many more options they offer at Smilefin. So I'm a huge sushi lover and just happened to see their "Now Open!" Sign last time I visited the Moe's in the same plaza. Did a little research and saw they had poke bowls as well as hibachi on their menu! Uhm yes please! After a week or two of dreaming of poke, I had a lunch break with just enough time to head over there! I walked in and the place is big and open, nice and clean, could use a little more seating though. Only several other customers there, I always judge a place on how busy it is, but this place is still so new! Did a create my own poke bowl with a salad base, spicy tuna, avocado, cuke, masago, more fresh veggies and tasty sauces! Total was $14 plus a tip, but of course I chose the most expensive protein plus avocado, no regrets! The bowl was super delicious, spicy tuna was flavorful and super cold (lets me know it's safe to eat), so many wonderful flavors with all of fresh ingredients! Loved that the create your own bowl you get endless toppings from an area of the bar. Definitely check out their diverse menu. Saw several orders of hibachi come out for other customers and it looked amazing as well. Can't wait to bring my husband here for lunch one day soon. Highly recommended!! read more

Look at your receipt!!! I was overcharged for my poke bowl. I had a plain tuna bowl, no extras, and they charged me $10.50 instead of $9. I was with other people and didn't want to make a scene. I love poke bowls, I eat sashimi often. The tuna tasted frozen. I sampled the steak hibachi which was greasy, not tasty, and kinda grey. My friend threw out his steak dinner. Another person tried the shrimp hibachi and said it was excellent. I would suggest to the management reserve certain portions of the grill & separate utensils for each food items for people with allergies and have more detailed receipts for the poke bowls. read more

One of two new poke-specific restaurants to open in Sarasota in the past few months. Compared to Fushipoke, Smilefin's portions are slightly larger and are also a bit cheaper. I had the Hawaii bowl and swapped ahi for salmon. Really good- a little spicy, a little sweet (thanks to the mangos), and the ratio of fish/accompaniments to rice was evenly balanced. Finally a poke spot in Lakewood Ranch/Sarasota. Been waiting for poke here and Smilefin satisfies the craving. They have a larger selection than most other build your own poke menus, which is really nice. I think they even have 3 types of tuna alone. They most of the toppings you normally see, and an excellent selection of sauces. I had a bowl with tuna and salmon, I think it was a premade choice. The sushi rice really makes it. They scrimp a little on the fish, but what poke place doesn't? The quality of the fish was good though. The bowl was largest poke bowl I've had-I left stuffed. It was very good- definitely earned its 4 stars. Pork gyoza got a 2/5 though when I saw the chef take them from a bag and heat them on the grill. Just get your poke and be happy. I went there a few days ago (like literally 5 days ago) and ever since, I've been craving more! So I headed back there yesterday before my nightshift, sat down and ate my shrimp hibachi which was soooo delicious! The shrimp tasted fresh and actually had flavor! The veggies were cooked to the perfect point (didn't stay raw and crunchy but didn't get overcooked and limpy) and of course the fried rice was also yummy! (But Ive never had fried rice that I didn't like). Aside of getting hibachi to dine in... I also got poke bowl to take with me for my "work lunch". They offer specialty bowls, but I decided I wanted to make my own! I got the sushi rice, seaweed salad, zucchini, crab sticks, avocados, marinated tuna with sweet chili sauce and sesame seeds!!
