Bottom line I am very unlikely to return to this restaurant and give them a second shot. I do not recommend for breakfast. Definitely do not get the coffee. I really don't like to give this low of a review to establishments. But in this particular case I think they earned it. Service was extremely slow... The food came out wrong and overall it was just not a good experience. Maybe it was a really off day... Maybe this was a one off experience... Nonetheless I was really unhappy. I ordered the eggs Benedict it's some thing I actually ordered a lot of restaurants for breakfast because it's a relatively consistent thing that you can change a little bit to the restaurant. In this particular case the Benedict itself was extremely thick and did not taste good. I'm not sure if it had sat in the pot too long if they overcooked it or if there's some sort of weird original recipe they just didn't agree with me. The pancake was what I would consider to be some thing along the lines of store-bought mix. I really like pancakes but in this particular case I thought that it was some thing that I could just make it home and there was really no reason to be out. The server got her order wrong a couple times even after we tried to explain to her what we were ordering she still came out with the wrong items. Now for the topper... The real reason why this place only received a One star review instead of two... The coffee it was absolutely terrible. At first I thought that maybe it was because the 1st cup wasn't fresh. So the next time I asked if they could give bring me a fresh cut from a fresh pot. Unfortunately it tasted as though they had dumped fresh grind into old grinds. Here's the thing when you go into a diner you expect pretty basic things decent food and good coffee with marginal service. I received none of those expectations. read more

This place is a joke. Saw some decent reviews so I took my 3yr old daughter for breakfast. We got there around 6:45 am and walked in to shift change. We sat around (only ones in the place) and waited on our food for 15 minutes while I sipped on the worlds worst/oldest coffee.. my daughters pancakes were like rubber and my omelette was awful and had a weird sour taste. Lunch was great! Everything was delicious and proportions were very generous. I had a huge salad and a bowl of split pea soup to start. The soup was delicious, and may have been Hand made but I forgot to ask. My salad was made to order, as I don't like a lot of stuff that is put into a salad. Ha ha. I also ordered a hot corn beef sandwich which came with fries and coleslaw. I was not able to eat my sandwich, because I was super full from the salad and soup. The fries were awesome! If you're looking for a diner quality meal at diner prices 24/7 then this is a solid choice. It is certainly a good place for breakfast, which is what you expect for all diners. Waffles and chicken were prepared very nicely; Belgian waffle was nicely crisp and inside wasn't dry, chicken was freshly fried and very tasty. Eggs Benedict was good but a little unique, made with over easy eggs versus the more traditional poached eggs, and the Hollandaise sauce was also a little off-style; almost seemed like a Mornay sauce. That said, I would certainly order the Eggs Benedict again, knowing it would be 'Smiley's' version. Price's are comparable to other diner's in this area. Best accolades that it's convenient to 95 travelers and that they're open 24/7. Service was super prompt and attentive. I should've known by the looks of it when I walked in. Our booth was dirty and my son had to use his napkin to wipe down spilled coffee that was on his seat. One would think this would've triggered a response from the server who watched us wipe it down. Not the case. I watched the server touch the rim of our cups so I requested straws, a server behind the counter had HER HAND IN HER BRA adjusting herself, and when the food came out the server handed my children HOT plates. The hot cakes were huge. My boys ordered the specialty hot cakes. Both had banana walnut. The walnuts were left whole and the bananas were not ripe at all. I tried it. Today was the first day that Smiley's diner opened. We had take out and must say the food was GREAT! BURGER better then Burger King and they have PORK ROLL AND CHEESE!!! FINALLY a little bit of Trenton brought to Delaware. It was just as good as the filling station's pork roll and cheese. Driving from Wilmington through the miasma of the I-95 construction and bizarre construction on Rte. 273, I find Smiley's. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. Great little diner! The food and service were top notch. We went for Sunday breakfast. We were seated quickly; fortunately no wait list. I had two poached eggs served with two fluffy buttermilk pancakes, one sausage link, and two slices of bacon. Nicely done. Second order was an omelette along with home fries and wheat toast. if I could leave no stars I would. Enter the establishment at 10:02pm there were two people at the hostess stand. Neither of them greeted me. I waited for about a minute and said is it seat yourself. An older gentleman said yes sit anyone and someone will help you. I sat down and waited 10 minutes and was never acknowledge. This was my first time to Smiley's Diner, but its become my Mom's favorite place to go so we went there for dinner last night. I wanted to give perhaps a 4 star review but they just didn't earn it. Mom had eggplant parm, she enjoyed it. My wife had chicken teriyaki stir fry, generous portions & she said it was good. I went in thinking stay simple and was going to get a wrap sandwich or perhaps a turkey club but my penchant for seafood got the best of me & I ordered "Veal Via Marie". Not a dish I've heard of before but it sounded good: sautéed veal, scallops & shrimp, with garlic, scallions, tomato over linguine. The execution of this dish disappointed however: It was based is a white sauce that masked the delicate seafood flavors; and the whole thing was coated in a heavy layer of mozzarella cheese. This dish would be better in a simple salt & garlic sauté in olive oil; skip the cream sauce & mozzarella. Service: it wasn't bad but could have been better. Waitress was a little long on the friendly / chatty bit but short on service. I found myself waiting quite a while for a refill on the beverage. Owners / managers were seated at a table near the register 2 tables away having a fairly loud conversation in a foreign tongue. I get it that it's easier to speak in your native language however it's annoying when you're having dinner and this is your background. Next time I'll stick with the turkey club. read more

What a good dining experience. First and foremost the food was great. Our server was Denise and she was wonderful. Started with wings and potatoes skins with bacon and cheese( cooked perfect). We then had some soup with two veal dishes. The veal in both melted in you mouth. Real veal, no patty's here. Mine also had shrimps and scallops. The shame is the next time I go it most certainly will be more crowded. Then again some things are worth waiting for. We'll definately be back many more times So I've been back 2 more times.
