Tossed salad with blue cheese, very crisp
Mark W. S.

Wanted to get out but not go too far and this fit the bill. The waitress was very nice offering suggestions. Very attentive. We started with the crab dip and it was delicious. Next some oysters on the half shell. You can order individually so I got four. They were a good size and had a nice brine taste. I ordered the fantail shrimp and scallops fried. My wife got the skewer of grilled shrimp with sweet Chile sauce. Both were excellent. I also got their special fries which are crinkle cut with a bang bang sauce. Very tasty! A side salad was ordered and it was good as well. I don't care for the bar seating but that's the only negative for us. The food is what we came for not the tables.

(3.25 stars) Smitty's is a difficult place to properly rate. In terms of what it brings to Kernersville, it's a breath of fresh air, a fun place to grab a drink, and a reliable source of seafood options. At the same time, if you've traveled a bit, you'll recognize Smitty's as a worse version of what you can find elsewhere. Despite the unassuming shopping center location, Smitty's atmosphere definitely stands out. The netting and pirate flags on the walls help reinforce a beach/nautical theme. There are also a variety of seating options from traditional tables inside and out to a seat along a wraparound bar. The menu here offers chicken and steaks, but seafood is the star. You can get it in a sandwich, in a fried platter, in a pasta dish, in a taco, in a rice bowl....you get the idea. While there may not be many types of fish to choose from, the number of permutations still offers plenty of variety. My wife and I opted to split a fried pickles appetizer and a fried platter with flounder, popcorn shrimp, oysters, potatoes, and broccoli. Our food came up relatively quickly, and it was hot and fresh. The quality, however, rated as largely just OK. The pickles were nice and crisp, but the accompanying remoulade had a confusing sweet note (relish, maybe?). The "famous" potatoes were buttery though they would have benefited from some herbs. The flounder was thinly breaded. Both the shrimp and oysters were good and paired nicely with the accompanying tartar and cocktail sauces. At $9 for the app and $26 for the pick three fried platter (including a $4 upcharge for oysters), Smitty's pricing is higher than you'd expect for its atmosphere. Servers seemed friendly enough. If you're in Kernersville with a seafood craving, Smitty's has a lot to offer even if the quality is hit or miss. However, if you're willing to drive twenty-something minutes, Full Moon does a better version of much of what you can find here.

We visited Smitty's Grill last night, and since it's known for seafood, I decided to stick with it. The ambiance inside was fun nautical, seriously it was like from SpongeBob with a lively energy around the bar that made for a fun experience. We opted to sit at the bar, where the staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered some refreshing draft beers, which hit the spot. I chose the fried fish sandwich with french fries, but unfortunately, the meal didn't quite meet my expectations. The lettuce looked a bit wilted, and the tomatoes lacked flavor, which took away from the overall experience. However, it wasn't a terrible meal--I'd just probably try something different next time. My husband had the Nashville chicken sandwich and, while he shared my feeling of slight disappointment with the food, he still enjoyed the overall dining atmosphere. If nothing else, I'd definitely recommend coming here for the inviting bar vibe--it really makes for a memorable experience.

I tend to forget about this place but it never disappoints! They have a very wide selection of food Including a large variety of seafood and bar food. The service is always spot on and the food is delicious.

Nashville Hot Oysters

It's been a hot minute since I've been to Smitty's and I wish I would have been coming here sooner. We had an amazing dinner out on Friday. Love the vibe, our service was great and the food was top notch! We started with some drinks and appetizers. We got the fried pickles and the Nashville Hot Oysters. Do not sleep on those Nashville Hot Oysters. They are smack your momma good! Perfect with the fried pickles but that will be an appt I dream about! The hubby and I shared the Barge. A load of steamed seafood (oysters, crab legs, shrimp, scallops and clams). And it also comes with four sides! The price was reasonable for all that seafood and we can't wait to visit again. Loved our time and meal! Can't wait to come back!

A local staple! Still very good. Not too busy for a Monday! Ordered the firecracker shrimp tacos. They were amazing! Came with three tacos. Each taco had at least 6 shrimp. They were filling but not heavy. The shrimp were lightly breaded but crispy. I got onion rings as a side. They too were very good! Our waiter/ bartender was fantastic. He kept the tea filled and the beers coming. Great ambiance. Most seats are bar seats. Overall a great spot! Highly recommended!

Crab Dip

Great place for seafood and drinks! Our server was very friendly, we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe. We ordered Crab Stuffed Flounder, Fish Nuggets, Grilled Scallops, Oyster Rockefeller, Crab Dip and Fried Pickles. Everything was great, the crab was different, but delicious. The grilled scallops were 10 out of 10 and the portion was plentiful. This is one of my new favorite spots for seafood and I look forward to going back. Honorable mention for the mac n cheese side, restaurant mac n cheese isn't always the best, but I highly recommend trying.

Smittys is unapologetically authentic. If the wait doesn't tell you how good this place it, the food sure will! The second the doors open at 4, it's quickly filled with locals craving delicious seafood. I recently went and tried the nashville hot chicken oysters, the garlic seafood combo, and the tug boat. The oysters were a table favorite and had the perfect balance of spice and tanginess. The garlic combo and tugboat had a variety of seafood and it was all cooked well and had a ton of flavor. The staff are always super kind and attentive - you can tell they love where they work and they're always all smiles!

Love this place. Reminds me of a New England dive bar with great food. Love the seating- at the bar. Always people to tell too, the staff is super friendly. Oysters are always a favorite here!!

Great spot and the reviews don't lie! Service and food was really solid. Would definitely like to get back soon to try a few other options on the menu!

A few of these, some calamari, and a pound of shrimp -- I'm good.

My wife and some of her friends raved about the food here. But for me it was just average. Certainly didn't live up to the hype.

Change the M to an H and you nailed it. Terrible service. Lousy atmosphere based on the raw sewage smell outside. Terrible service staff.

This is a casual seafood spot that includes everything from chicken tenders, steak, and seafood to crab legs. I ordered the fried catfish plate and it was delicious. The batter was seasoned well and the baked potato I ordered with it was piping hot and the hush puppies we soft and fresh. Our server was absolutely fantastic. I wish I could remember his name. He never let our drinks get low and checked on us many times. It was a little loud at times but then again it was a Friday night so that comes with the territory. All in all a great spot to get some tasty food with great service.

The onion rings are good - I forgot to request extra crispy, but since I didn't finish them, I took them home and used the air fryer to rewarm them the next day. Man they were greasy (thank you air fryer for caring for my arteries)!!! But very crisp like I like. I'm not one for a lot of batter in my seafood, so I opted for the salt & peppered version. It's a lot lighter and tastes good seeing it is the only seasoning you'd need on fish. This visit I opted to try the broiled jumbo shrimp with my combo (with an up charge) and I'm so glad I did!! I think next time I'll get a broiled platter and skip the fryer! Seasoning was delicious!! #OldBay Looking forward to another visit soon.

They're super seasoned and buttery. It was a nice introduction. The place stays pretty busy but I had no issues being sat either time I've visited. Most people seem to go for the oysters but I'm not a raw oyster girl so I tried some favorite entrees both times. The first time I got the shrimp and grits-it was different than a normal shrimp and grits-this was a grit cake in a nice spicy cream sauce with shrimp. I would say it was pricier than most for shrimp and grits I've had for the portion size but no complaints. This most recent time I got a harvest salad and the crab dip. Both were really good-I would have liked toasted bread for the dip instead of the loaf bread provided. They have great specials and I'll definitely be back.

The layout of the restaurant was interesting with large central bars. The menu is the star at this restaurant being a seafood lovers dream. Aw a walk in it took about 45 mins to get seated but with Adjacency to good local bars time flew past. The service you received was as good as could be expected with a busy bay. The shrimp cocktail was tasty but the shrimp are extremely small and only 6 so definitely not a shareable. I had the chargrilled oysters and they had great potential. All the flavors were there but they were left a bit too long to cook and half my order was burnt. The soup was phenomenal, as was the peel and eat shrimp. I would love to go back on a day that isn't as hectic and hope for better oyster. The potato salad did make up for a couple of the black shells.

My first go was the giant spud with chicky tendies and buffalo sauce. The chicken is so tender and has the right amount of batter crispiness to it. The sauce was very flavorful, but if you don't like it heavy-handed, you might want to ask for the sauce on the side. They aren't stingy. My spouse was raving over their jumbo shrimp. I can't speak to that because I don't eat them, but I haven't stopped hearing about since we went months ago... It's a modest-sized restaurant on the one busy street in K-ville. We were happy with every aspect of our lunch stop at Brother Cluckers! They won us over on quality, value, friendliness, and cleanliness. Hard to do better than that at a chicken shack... but we found so much more than great chicken. Indeed, I saw they had daily specials and that on Sunday it was a jumbo shrimp basket with a side of choice, cole slaw, and some hushpuppies. Sounded good to me so I ordered it up. My wife got the buffalo chicken loaded potato. They gave us our numbered receipt, we helped ourselves to drinks, and had a seat. When the food came out, immediately, you are impressed by the amount you get. My basket had 12 definitely jumbo shrimp, perfectly fried, the side of okra was just as voluminous and tasty... maybe slightly underfried but still crisp enough, and the fact they were a little underdone made the rest great in the air fryer later. Hushpuppies were located under the shrimp, they had a nice onion flavor and were great. The cole slaw is the kind I like, NOT heavy on mayo at all. A slight sweetness and hint of vinegar. The cocktail sauce even had a nice pep (I like mine heavy on horseradish). Could not have been more pleased with my order. Same could be said of my wife's potato, it was a big un' and overflowing with toppings and tender buffalo chicken. I particularly liked the buffalo sauce they use when I got to try a bite of hers. Not over or undersauced, well balanced... in general just done exactly how she wanted it. We both left knowing we will be back another time, and that it won't be a long time. Well done Brother Clucker!
