This spot has really tasty wings! We came specifically to try their lemon pepper wings (both regular and spicy versions). The wings have a very strong smoke flavor from the smoker they are prepared in, and then they have a great texture and crunch from being fried afterwards. The lemon pepper is delicious in both varieties so I highly recommend getting both. The other item to get here is the fried pickles. I haven't had too many fried pickles, but these stand out as being some of my favorite ones. The pickles are thick cut and still have a fresh taste as they are not too fried. And the sauce they give is akin to an aioli or remoulade - flavorful, creamy, and rich. Service is great - we had an excellent server who was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is decent - nothing to comment out. Parking is available in the back (a few dedicated parking spots for the restaurant).

The place is really homey. The server we got was amazing and offers honest opinions and a great vibes. I tried fried pickles for the first time because of her. I love moonshine and the drink I got was tasty and cute. I got the pulled chicken and my date ordered a sandwich. We both left feeling fat and happy. Will be back when I'm in the area. Was a perfect bbq spot and great flavor. Loved that they had season items .

One of my bbq staples! Ambiance is your typical bbq spot so you can be casual. Service is always good, I haven't had a bad experience yet. I usually go with the turkey Rubinstein sandwich but I was craving Brisket so today I ordered the brisket sandwich "Jacked Up" and ya'll it was everything I needed to fulfill my craving. Buttery, moist & fatty, the Texas toast for the sandwich is just chefs kiss. We had tenders and Mac for the table and it was decent, but not beating their sandwiches. They're fire!

My husband has been on this brisket kick for a while now. We decided to visit Smokejack BBQ, Service was nice and pleasant, the menu was simple. The atmosphere was cool. The food was delicious and my husband could not stop talking about how good it was. We ordered some type of sampler plate. I think it was called Holy Trinity. It had sausage, ribs, brisket and toast. I enjoyed the sausage the most. One was spicy and the other was like cheddar. My husband was so happy about the brisket we ended up coming back the next day. The brisket was flavorful, fall off the bone tender and just all around good flavor. Smokejack seems to be the only place so far that we have found that can cook a good brisket. Because he is on this kick we have visited many bbq restaurants in our area but none are a match to Smokejack. Everytime we are in the Alpharetta area we HAVE to make time for Smokejack. I think my husband said the restaurant has won some awards for their bbq. The sides were just ok, but the meat is the bomb. Good job Smokejack and you have a patron for life.

I went to Smokejack BBQ and ordered the Holy Trinity ($36), which comes with a 1/2 rack of pork ribs, ¼ lb brisket, two smoked sausage links (one Cajun, one jalapeño cheddar), pickled onions & jalapeños, Texas toast, and four sides. We also added an order of fried pickles for $7. The pork ribs were dry-rubbed with a nice bark and a smoky flavor that came through well. While they weren't falling-off-the-bone tender, they still had a good chew and a solid smoke profile. They leaned a little dry, but were flavorful enough that sauce wasn't absolutely necessary. The sausages were solid. The Cajun link had a good snap with a mild spice, and the jalapeño cheddar was juicy with just enough heat and melted cheese throughout. Definitely one of the better parts of the platter. The Texas toast was just okay--tasted like regular toast. No special seasoning or buttery flavor, so it didn't really stand out. For sides, my partner and I chose: Mac & Cheese (4/5): Creamy and comforting. Mashed Sweet Potatoes (5/5): The best side of the night--smooth, flavorful, and well-balanced. Brunswick Stew (2/5): Underwhelming and didn't really hit for me. French Fries (2/5): Pretty standard and forgettable. Now for the highlight: the fried pickles. These were the star of the night--crispy, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Easily top five fried pickles I've ever had. One important note: once you order them, finish them. They do not hold up as leftovers. I tried air-frying them the next day and they were soggy and lost all their appeal. Our server, Caleb D, was kind and attentive at first. He checked on us three times and made sure everything was okay. However, I did notice a shift after I tipped 20% ($9.27). The friendliness seemed to disappear almost immediately--he walked away so quickly that I couldn't finish my sentence. I was trying to ask for a to-go box for my leftovers, but didn't get the chance. When he came back with the paper receipt, my partner ended up asking instead. Overall, Smokejack BBQ offers generous portions and some strong menu items. While a few sides and service consistency could use improvement, the sausages, sweet potatoes, and especially those fried pickles make it a place I'd consider returning to.

I'm not a fan of BBQ, my husband is but I can always find something for myself at Smokejack BBQ. This time I tried their Blueberry Habanero Mojo Smoked Wings and talk about finger licking flavor. They could have been spicier but the blueberry flavor was 100% satisfying. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, both were just okay. We also love the location of the restaurant as it's a great way for us to get out to eat but also enjoy downtown Alpharetta which is always a vibe on a Friday & Saturday night.

I found this place on yelp as one of the top places to eat OTP. It did not disappoint! It's right in downtown Alpharetta, which is a great area. There is parking behind the restaurant, there's also a paid parking lot right behind that very close. I sell the bar since I was alone, the service was great. I had a great local beer from Cherry Street. The food was phenomenal! I got to call Moe. I got the combo with smoked turkey, Cajun sausage, pulled pork, and burnt ends. For sides, I got the corn pudding and slaw. They burn ins were really good, but that Cajun sausage and smoked turkey were fire! The pork was just OK. The corn pudding was very good. Overall, I had a really great experience with a really good meal and good service. A large restaurant, with great ambience. I will definitely visit this place again!

We saw the piece Atlanta Eats did on this place a few weeks ago and decided to try it for lunch today. So glad we did! The place smells amazing the minute you walk in and the staff is very welcoming. We had the fried pickles to start, and they were lovely...crispy, juicy, and not a trace of grease. My husband had never had them but is now a fan. Different emotions on this one. Beer was cold. I liked my meal but our friends not as happy but ok. Nothing wrong with it but would not go way out of my way. Definitely give it a try to see if you like. Gave it a 3 due to being your avg bbq joint. Portions could have been bigger for the price on the combo meals.o read more

First time to the area and really only have Texas BBQ to compare. Had the combo with burnt ends, spares, and pulled pork. Dry rub ribs were a little inconsistent, I got an end bone, center bones are great. Pork was good, the mustard sauce made it. Burnt ends were killer! I mostly liked the food I got, but they served gumbo that was old and horrible. They should have just said they were out. Burnt ends are the real draw here. Loved them. I also really liked the bbq chicken, but I find few people are interested in this category at bbq places. Unusual sides are available. Corn pudding, pimento grits, etc. read more

Dog friendly and very nice patio in the back! The loaded fries were huge and delicious. That honestly could have been a whole meal in and of itself. Fried green tomatoes were good, but reheated really poorly so make sure to enjoy that all at the restaurant. Also, the corn pudding is to die for. read more

Very good food and service! We were seated quickly. The atmosphere was sophisticated and welcoming. It wasn't too loud, and it was easy to hear our conversations at our table. We order the Jack, which was a sort sampler consisting of ribs, pulled pork, ribs and burnt ends. It came with four sides and we chose Mac and Cheese, pimento cheese grits, cole slaw and Brunswick stew. The grits were phenomenal! The sampler itself was enough for two adults and one nine year old boy, and we had leftovers. The ribs were very good, not dry or overdone. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. We chose Smokejack BBQ as our venue to host a Rehearsal Dinner for our son's wedding. We could not have been more pleased. The upstairs Attic Room was perfect for our private party. Fran and the rest of the catering staff and servers were very helpful and attentive before, during, and after our event. The food was delicious and they offered many gluten free options which was important to us. Our Dinner was on a Friday night during their very busy hours but they made us feel like we were the only ones there. Kudos to Smokejack for making our event so enjoyable! read more

We came here last night to try this place out, and really really enjoyed it. We came in at 7:30 and while the place was super busy, we were seated right away. The service was wonderful, our waitress recommended the large marge and it was so good. We got the jack which comes with 5 different kinds of meats, and 4 sides. We chose the collard greens, Mac n cheese, baked beans and pimiento cheese grits. The collards and grits were my favorites. We filled up and then had some to take him as well. Ate at Smoke Jack BBQ yesterday with some colleagues, and was pleasantly surprised! In this hot weather, BBQ wasn't exactly the first thing I thought of when we discussed lunch. I had the Smoked Chicken Greek Salad (YUM!), and it was so amazing! Full of smoked chicken, capers, cucumbers, feta, and tons of other veggies. The salad dressing was a perfect compliment to the ingredients! On a hot Summer Day, this salad really hit the spot, and has changed my opinion about BBQ for lunch on a hot, humid Summer Day! From the opening bell with a delicious cup of gumbo, to the porkzilla sandwich....and concluding with the theft of a couple of burnt ends of my wife's plate. I eat at here weekly! I have yet to be disappointed by any of their food, drinks or the service that I have received from Smokejack. I highly recommend the fried pickles, the mojo combo (three meat) and ALL of the sides ... if you are feeling particularly naughty the muddy puddle is as close to Heaven as you can get. read more

We decided to venture out & try something new, so we ended up at Smokejacks. Our waiter was excellent (probably the best service we have had in a long time) & he recommended the burnt ends, macaroni & cheese & turnip greens. We also ordered 2 appetizers - fried pickles and grilled shrimp, fried green tomatoes & pimento cheese. It was all delicious!!! Our kids loved their food too! The only thing I would NOT recommend is the 2 desserts we tried .... Banana pudding & peach cobbler. We all agreed both of them were not good. However, we will most definitely be going back for dinner ...... We just won't be ordering dessert! read more

History

Established in 2004.

Before opening a "BBQ" Tour was undertaken to taste the BBQ traditions of various parts of the country. We sampled the sweet richness of Kansas City, complex seasoning in Memphis, the spicy kick of Texas, the savory touch of Alabama and the tanginess in Georgia and the Carolinas. With Executive Chef Johnny we crafted a menu that would offer our guests a sampling of regional barbcue styles from across the country with our own "Smokejack" twist. The rest is in your hands. Meet the Business Owner: Dave F.

Local guy who grew up in the area and lives around the corner from the restaurant location. I've spent my entire adult career in the food & restaurant industry. I've loved BBQ and Southern food all my life and always wanted to open a restaurant. When the opportunity arose, I took my chance and went for it with the result being Smokejack BBQ (named after my first son Jack). With the help of Chef Johnny Umberger, family and friends, I've been able to grow it from an upstart restaurant to a thriving business that I can be proud of. I found out from another Kroger employee that the store's computer system is notoriously inaccurate. The customer service employee should have taken a 20-second walk to the beer cooler to lay eyes on the product. Instead, the lazy employee ended up wasting our time, money and effort on a useless drive to Kroger. My wife had to the good fortune to stop at Pop's! a few days later. They had the specialty beer product in stock and the counter employee went so far as to retrieve more of them from the beer cooler, so that my wife would not have to make a second trip to the back of the store. The stellar customer service didn't stop there. The store employee carried the items to the car and loaded them into the vehicle. My wife was flabbergasted. When she recounted the story to me she said she thought she had entered a time warp, traveling back to the halcyon days in America when service counted for something. Incredible! Not only that, the price on the product was better than Kroger or Walmart. We will be returning to Pop's! Wine & Spirits as a regular customer.

Let me first start by saying that we dine out regularly and have eaten at Smokejack many many times. The service and food have always been consistently good. Tonight was literally the worst experience we have ever had dining out. The waitress made error after error with our meal, causing most of one meal to be returned, leaving other food to get cold, one person either waiting to eat letting their food get cold or eat first...etc etc. We were patient, but exasperated by the end of the meal. When the bill arrived a $1 substitution upcharge had been charged as full price. We brought this to her attention and she left with the bill. We waited and noticed she was watching to see if we were ready to pay w/o a bill. Finally she returned and we had to remind her we were waiting for our corrected bill. She came back after a long wait and presented us with the SAME ORIGINAL UNCORRECTED BILL! After another lengthy wait we paid the proper amount, but asked to see the manager on our way out. Explaining our experience to the manager we were only told "sorry about that, I'll talk to her". No offer of any sort to make anything right about our experience. Alpharetta has so many choices of restaurants...we will not patronize an establishment where management has no care, allowing regular customers to leave extremely dissatisfied with just a simple uncaring "sorry about that". read more

The slush is perfectly refreshing with just the right kick, and the moonshine-soaked blueberries? Absolute game changer. I'd come back just for that alone. Now, let's talk food. My meal, THE JACK, was a delectable combination of Pulled Pork, Burnt Ends, Smoked Chicken (each 1/4 lb), 1/2 Rack Pork Ribs, 4 side choices, and 2 slices of Texas Toast. I did a baby back comparison with another restaurant. I was a bit disappointed with Beef Brisket. The meat didn't fall off the bone, and was smothered in sauce, which made me question what are they trying to hide. The sides were not worth having.
