This place is great not just because of their bbq it's because of the sides. Most bbq restaurants put all their effort in the meat and sauce and get their sides from the grocery store (it seems like it). The owner of Smokejack's worked hard to create sides that were on par with the meat or even much better. I LOVE THEM. I Love that I can bring vegetarian friends here and not worry that they won't be able to eat anything except a slice of white bread. I also really really recommend their Carolina mustard sauce. I'm in town over night for work so I took a recommendation from the hotel staff and went to Smokejack BBQ for lunch. They have an ample menu to choose from and the waiter was well versed on its options. I had the smoked pork sausage with baked beans. The sandwich looked over stuffed with split sausage in between two big pieces of Texas toast. It was excellent!! The beams and bacon was ok. Over all Smokejack was a great lunch spot. I would recommend it to others in the areas looking for good bbq. read more

I have been searching since I arrived in Georgia for a place that does dry rub ribs as I don't enjoy BBQ sauce very much. Read the menu and the only place in a good range that says they offer a dry rub so I figured I would give it a shot. So glad I did! This is my favorite restaurant for BBQ I've ever been to. Their dry rub is SO good. My bf got their BBQ pulled chicken burger with fries and coleslaw. He says it's the best coleslaw he's ever had. We came here again and he tried the brisket burger. OMG amazing. He says it makes every other burger he's ever had seem mediocre. I always get fries and mac n cheese with my ribs and fries have never been soggy and they are seasoned to perfection. Not too salty and not to bland. Mac n cheese is pretty decent too. Not to mention every time we have gone the service has been phenomenal! Fast efficient service despite a pretty full restaurant. The one time our waiter was gone a little long he stopped back in and apologized for the little bit of extra wait and promptly brought me a new drink. After seeing SmokeJack BBQ on Atlanta Eats we headed up Sunday to give it a try. DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! After our hour drive, we were greeted warmly and with a smile by the hostess and quickly seated. Our server, James H.?was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. He even went as far as getting us a sample of the burnt ends to try. He guided us through the different choices on the menu and explained the culinary process of ingredients. The brisket was very tender and moist with the right amount of bark. The smoke ring and taste was perfect. The smoked wings, all I can say is I can't get wings anywhere else now. Very meaty and tender, thanks James H. for the recommendation! The burnt ends where very good! James H. was attentive to our every need and never let our water glasses hit bottom. My first visit to this restaurant prompted me to want to come back again. The food was good, or so it seemed. It was nice to experience a barbecue different from the usual southern variety that proliferates the Atlanta area. Our second visit, however, was so terrible, that we will not be returning for a third time. We ordered the $35 "Jack" platter and a beer. The service was fine, not the best and not the worst, about what you'd expect from a barbecue place. The core reason, then, for this negative review is left to the fact that our spareribs came out refrigerated cold, that is, hot on the outside and 40 degrees in the middle, yet cooked all the way through. This only means one thing: We were paying $70 (the price of our meal with drinks and gratuity) for what was essentially reheated leftovers. Any true barbecue place would have a constant amount of fresh meat on their smoker at all times. This place clearly cooks food in advance and then reheats it when a customer orders it, and apparently, they cannot even perform the task of reheating food well. Our server did take the food back and brought us a new order, this time hot, but the reality of the situation was exposed. Save your money and go to a real barbecue place like Big Shanty Smokehouse. I can assure you, this experience we had at Smokejack will not happen there. read more

I unfortunately must agree with the detractors when it comes to Smokejack's BBQ. In reading prior postings I was stoked at the prospect of digging in on crispy, fatty, caramelized, spice crusted burnt ends. I was especially excited that they offer said burnt ends as a combo with two other meats and two sides. We shared a platter of "burnt ends", pulled pork, smoked wings, corn pudding and baked beans. We also got an order of fried pickles. I sarcastically added quotation marks when I mentioned their "burnt ends" for the fact that these are not burnt ends. Cubing brisket and tossing in sauce does not a burnt end make. Bbq snobs such as my self know full well a burnt end is the cubed point meat of the brisket, doused in rub and smoked a few more hours. Some are even mopped in sauce and put back in the smoker to optimize caramelized lusciousness. The final product here is a decently cooked brisket tossed in an okay sauce. Edible but not what I was expecting. Wings were okay, pork was good and corn pudding was tasty. Fried pickles were pretty good though slightly salty and not exactly crispy. My other big gripe were the BBQ beans with Bacon. According to the menu all sides are made from scratch. Well these beans are a dead ringer for Bush's baked beans. They are completely edible but not what I expect from a so-called smoke house. Service was as expected. Decor is cute, i especially like the wooden primal cut murals of the cow, pig and chicken. My final assessment is this, if you think chili's serves great Mexican food then you will probably think this is great BBQ. I used to rely on Smokejack as my go to for all things BBQ but have had miserable experiences the last 3 visits. 1- initially I thought it was a fluke, but there seems to be an issue with removing the membrane from the ribs nowadays. While I appreciate that this can be arduous work, it is also a requirement (or used to be). 2- the very last visit I made was the one that ruined Smokejack for me. Earlier in the week, I ordered a few things, to include Brunswick stew (my absolute favorite since moving down from the northeast, who knew it was a thing!?) but that part of my order didn't make it into the bag. Having just bragged about Smokejack and this stew to my grillmaster mother, who was ready for dinner, I was disappointed that my bag was short the stew. I forgot to call for a refund & later decided mommy deserved to be blessed with this miraculous melange of stewed meats and coughed up the funds; my excitement was short lived. I got it home and she said "tastes like apple cider vinegar." I blamed her tastebuds until I opened my bowl of "stew" and said, "ma, this is wrong, very wrong," and tossed it out. It tasted more like, or at least I can only imagine, Brunswick just before becoming stew. As I think back to that last adventure, the red flag that I ignored was the waitstaff member chewing his sleeve and him being the same person who brought out my carry out order. Great atmosphere. Love the location. Love the setup. The wait staff was super attentive. We both tried the combo platter, so we could get a good sampling of what they had to offer. Generic sauces, just okay. Did not come with a bread, had to ask for toast at an unchanged. Smoked sausage and brisket were the bomb diggity. I was not a fan of the pulled pork, nothing special about it, just okay for me. The burnt ends were a complete disappointment, and were not what I would define as a burnt end. It just did not meet the expectation. For sides we did the Brunswick stew which was very good, the mac and cheese was a good choice, and the corn pudding which was a little on the wet side for our taste but okay. Not sure about desserts, did not see on menu and were not offered that option prior to check. Probably would go back to hang in bar area, which was really neat looking. This was my first time in Georgia in general, so naturally when I travel for work I try and eat some where that isn't a chain restaurant. My co worker and I decided to stop here based off of googles recommendation being a top 10 restaurant in Alpharetta, boy we were glad we did. First off the food was amazing and came out very fast even being as busy as they were, the service was great as well our waitress helped us along the whole way. We went back here one week later and were let down. The brisket and burnt ends that had been amazing last time were cold and so dry. The manager walked by and asked how it was and we said um okay I guess and she just walked away. That is the reason I am updating my review. Why even go around and ask if you don't take the time to see what is wrong with your food. We spent almost sixty dollars. I wasn't looking for a discount or anything free, but if you are going to ask I'd like to atleast tell you what you could do to be better. Not sure why Sue is even a manager since her customer service skills are obviously lacking. Our waitress was good though, very friendly. We tried the chicken instead of the pulled pork and it was the best chicken we had ever had from the smoker. Not sure if the first time we came was the fluke or if it was this time since it wasn't the best. Last night I made my second attempt to eat at this restaurant. (First time they were not serving food so we just had drinks.) At 7:45pm we checked in with the hostess who promptly (and rudely) told us that there was a 45 minute to an hour wait. We told her that was fine we would wait in the bar, put us down for a party of three. She clearly was not pleased and had tried to deter us from staying and we even stated, "Gosh, it seems like you don't want us to eat here." She said, I will try to hurry some of these people so we can seated you sooner. We go to the bar just in time to catch a group of three being called for their table so we take their bar table and order drinks. While we are waiting the manager comes over and tells us that the kitchen is closed and they are no longer serving food. Obviously, after sitting for at least 15 minutes and having our names on the list we expected to be fed. We told him our names were already on the list and we had already been waiting. After he left we watched him tell people at the bar the same thing so we decided to help them out and offer to eat at the bar so they could close the kitchen. We ask the manager if that would help them and he said yes but he didn't know if he could get a server. (What kind of customer service does this place have???!!!) Eventually a very nice young lady comes over to take our order and tells us they are out of ribs, burnt ends and one other thing and had been out of pork but they just resolved that issue. How frustrating! Two people in my party came specifically for the ribs. I am assuming they were closing because they were out of food since we checked the door for hours and none were listed. If they had just told us at the hostess stand they were low on food we would have immediately gone someplace else. We called One Star Ranch BBQ down the road and they were open so we told them we were on our way. We had an excellent dinner at One Star but unfortunately missed the fireworks on 4th of July due to a very poorly handled situation and rotten customer service ant Smokejack. read more

Worst BBQ I've ever had! Ordered the smoked turkey plate - $11.50 - it was dry, chemical tasting and had been put on a grill to warm up (note the grill marks). My dining partners "porkzilla" sandwich was also dry. He ordered a side of coleslaw that was approximately one cup in size and was charged $2.50! The atmosphere was OK. The music on the patio was too loud to talk over. The waitress took my friends drink order then failed to ask me if i wanted anything. Food Service was fast. I had the pit master salad and was disappointed with it. Very little chicken and it was dark meat. Very little BBQ sauce and way too many wonton chips. The house wine was pretty good. My family of 5 was quoted 20 minutes and at 30 minutes I asked how much longer and was told there was only 1 table in the entire restaurant for a party of five. Ordered ribs here, and found a metal bristle from a grill cleaning brush in my food. Gave it to our waitress, who said she would show it to the manager. No one ever came by to apologize, or offer explanation for the unsafe mistake. To top it off, we were charged twice for the 'free refill' chips and salsa, because 'only the chips are free refills, not the salsa.' The menu should be relabeled then. The few times I had been here before the food had been mediocre, but putting a plainly obvious piece of metal in my food is the last straw. read more

I am Fundraising Chair for a regional healthcare organization, and we used Smokejack to cater our lunch. The customer service, the quality of the food, the timeliness, and the communication was amazing. Even the last minute vegan meal requests were accepted with a smile by the staff. We tried Smokejack on a Saturday night. For a large group the wait wasn't too bad, maybe 20 minutes, and you could get drinks at the bar. Our server was super helpful and anticipated needs well, offered us a variety of sauces and was very friendly. Fried pickles came with an interesting spicy side dipping sauce. I had the brisket sandwich with a side of pimento cheese grits- which were amazing!! Also had a bite of the famed "burnt ends"....which are exactly what you'd expect, the burned, charred ends of brisket. So incredibly tasty but could hear my mother in the back of my mind going on about carcinogens! Had a few bites of the brownie dessert, which was average but at that point I was so full it didn't matter. Overall this was an awesome barbeque experience! Of course you leave with a smoky smell but that's to be expected really. Not too loud, even with the live band in the bar area, and cute decor. As an added bonus, Usher came in a picked up a to go order while we were there so that was pretty exciting. read more

I went here with some friend over the weekend I was in town dropping of a rescue dog. Smokejack is in the small downtown area and that night is was super busy because they were lighting the christmas tree but they sat us at our table pretty fast and we were a party of 6, I had the Mojo smoke combo, you pick 3 i chose brisket, burnt ends and chicken wings, it comes with 2 side i had mac and cheese and pimento cheese grits. the mac and cheese is good if you like thick creamy mac and cheese, being from new orleans I was a little worried about the grits but I was told I must try them, to my surprise they were not bad. for the meat the brisket was good, the burnt ends are not true burnt ends and after having real burnt ends these kinda sucked, the smoked chicken wings were a little dry but the sauce on there was really good, its a little sweet and a little spicy. My hubby had the baby back ribs, thats not my favorite rib I think the meat to sauce ratio is off I like a lot of sauce cooked on my ribs. So I did not care for there ribs. wow!! Really, really tasty food! I've been here 3x now. Burnt ends - amazing! Pulled pork - to die for! Corn Pudding - shut the front door!! And the wait staff is SUPER nice. We had a softball team with about 9 girls and the parents. They rang us up by jersey # on separate bills and never complained or made us feel bad. I know that's a pain in the rump to do, so it was really nice of them. All in all - a great place, great food, nice location, friendly staff and clean and pleasant atmosphere! Review of CATERING: Food was "ok" - We ordered Smokejack BBQ for a corporate event. To start off, the mac and cheese was cold. The chopped Chicken was good. The Pork was super dry. Sauces good. Cookies nice and soft. However, don't see us ever ordering catering from them again. The guys they sent to set up up were RUDE. I witnessed them snap at one of our employees who simply was trying to control the crowd outside and when she asked when lunch would be ready, this guy said in an extremely rude tone - 15 minutes (it was already 10 minutes late). The guy who barked never smiled, never said thank you and stomped off...I'm sorry but there is way WAY too many other BBQ places out there who don't come late, with attitudes and cold mac n cheese...just sayin (by the way, that was an order to feed a couple hundred people...poor employees with poor attitudes =business lost) read more

this was always one of my favorites when I lived in Alpharetta and I miss it!!! We would go for lunch - folks on here have mentioned the fried pickles - delish! I've never had a soggy one...but no one has mentioned the catfish tacos - excellent! This place is not just BBQ, it's like neuve American with an emphasis on BBQ - the chicken chili, pork quesadias, chicken thighs with the blue cheese are all excellent. Of course the Pulled Pork and Burnt Ends are huge favs - but you could just go for the sides - I loved the Mac & Cheese, Sweet Potato Souffle, baked beans, slaw , etc- Everyone I've taken here has loved it - it's very casual and come as you are - so it's an easy place to just get out and to to. The service runs hot and cold - they seem to have a lot of turn over and don't do a good job training - but eventually the food makes it all okay. To the team at smoke jack: I have never watched the hunger games...but let's team up if things get weird. I had been here once before with family when I first moved here a year ago, it's like discovering yourself in a hallway you would have sworn you'd never been in before -- yet you know it. So, upon my second time arriving I was served by Alexandra. She was amazing. First, we explained our desires a drink or two and something good but that will leave a good taste in our mouth. She recommended a Rueben sandwich. I just moved from Cleveland we take our Rueben's damn serious. I thought finally we got them...the chink in the armor. No way this Rueben could be as good as Slymans Deli or Ontario St. Café in Cleveland. As far as Rueben's go...You win. But the neat thing about this is no matter how hard and efficient or good you think you are the best compliment a waiter can get is when the guest mentions you to the manager on how great everything was.
