Soon after landing in Georgia, we wanted to set off in search of some of that famed "Southern hospitality." That journey wasn't a lengthy one as we soon had the good fortune of meeting Adrienne at "Smokey Bones" in Columbus. She immediately greeted us with genuine warmth and made us feel right at home! We decided to go "all in" on our "all rib" entrees and enjoyed both their "Signature House Smoked Ribs" and their "Imported Baby Back Ribs." While the deliciousness of their ribs was of no surprise, the quality of their sides was and the "Mashed Potato and Gravy" and the "BBQ Baked Beans" were good enough to emerge from the shadow of their entrée counterparts and forge their individual paths. I have to admit that I felt excitedly like we were being admitted to an exclusive Southern fraternity/sorority when Adrienne mentioned that she'd be bringing a "bone bag" to accompany our meals. I (eventually) figured out that she was bringing us a paper bag...for us to put our bones into...when we were finished with them. (It's ok if you feel the need to read that a few times over to get the gist. That just means that you and I could then start that exclusive fraternity/sorority that I mistakenly thought already existed! ‍) While enjoying some BBQ in the South was something I had always aspired to experience, I also had my first taste of "Sweet Tea" and it was everything that I had hoped for. Sweet and flavorful, but without being ridiculously amped up with cups full of sugar. It was "tastefully done" just as I had imagined! Thanks Adrienne and "Smokey Bones" for welcoming us to the South! And that's...Henry's Take. #southernbbq #smokeybones

Real Southern BBQ Done Right!…read more It was a great experience from start to finish! If the Food Channel hasn't stopped by Macon Road BBQ yet, they're seriously missing out. I ordered the half chicken plate, rib tips sandwich, and sampled the rib plate--every bite was packed with that rich, smoky flavor only a true Southern BBQ spot can deliver. The vinegar-based sauce gave the perfect tang without overpowering the meat--just how I like it. The sides were on point too--potato salad was creamy and flavorful, the baked beans had that deep, smoky sweetness, and the fries were hot, crispy, and seasoned right. But what really sealed the 5-star experience? The ambiance and service. The place has that warm, down-home feel where you instantly feel welcome. It's clean, comfortable, and gives you that "sit and stay awhile" energy. The staff was friendly, attentive, and treated me like family--from walking in the door to walking out full and happy. This isn't just a BBQ joint--it's a Southern staple. I'll definitely be back... and next time, I'm bringing the whole crew.

I ordered the chipped pork (they only have pork, not beef, which I found a little odd; I would have preferred beef, but oh well) and it was pretty good. Ordered the Brunswick Stew for my husband and he seemed to like it. I asked about baby back ribs, as I didn't see them on the menu. I was told they didn't have them (bummer), but that they had St. Louis style ribs, and had I ever had those? I said "no, I hadn't." So the owner(?)/person in charge gave me two to take home and try! I really appreciated that. (They were decent for non-baby back ribs.) So, food was good, service was outstanding, and personally, as long as the place is clean, which it seemed to be, I like the charm of the 70s-style interior. My experience was positive and I definitely plan to return! Recommended!

We noticed some folks sitting on the bench by the line and learned they were waiting for "dressing" which they recommended we try. We ordered two ribs plates and one baked chicken plate, dressing, collards, yams, and butter beans. Since they had sold out of cornbread we defaulted to a white dinner roll. Then onto the homemade lemonade and sweet tea. Service was great! Authentic and warm to the first time customers, they obviously had regulars who were greeted lovingly by name. All the line servers answered my questions and patiently waited for our selections. We even met "Little Ed" son of the restaurant's namesake, who was so kind! The food delivered nicely spiced ribs, tender, fall-off-the-bone baked chicken and tender collard greens. The prized jewel of Ed's for us was the dressing - wow, just delicious! I mixed mine up with the butter beans for a small protein twist. We were so satisfied that we brought home the yams for a treat later. Summary: The people are friendly and the food is the definition of comfort. Stop by for the experience and don't forget to close the bathroom hallway door- lol, a nod to our youngest son aka rule follower.
