This used to be our very favorite place to eat at. The last 3xs we have found hair in our food! It is so GROSS!! My daughter almost threw up! The manager said, "they wear nets not sure why?" We stopped in for lunch. There appeared to be only a single waitress on duty for about 10 patrons. As a result, service was fairly slow. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth waiting for: - Fried pickles & fried green tomatoes -- ok. - Caesar salad with steak had hardly any steak and so little dressing that we had to ask the waitress for more. - Cuban sandwich accompanied by Brunswick stew -- ok. The person who had this really liked the stew. Not so impressed with the pulled pork version of the Cuban, however. - Trio of tacos -- was supposed to be smoked beef brisket, shredded cabbage with special dressing & green onions, topped with shredded cheese in soft flour tortillas. Guacamole served on the side. What we got were three skimpy skimpy flour tortillas topped with plain shredded cabbage. No cheese to be seen. The meat inside was salty and finely chopped -- it certainly didn't look or taste like any smoked beef brisket I've ever had. We ordered their smoked wings (rub & garlic Parmesan) they were so delicious. I had their specialty soup that was full of great flavors, it had chicken, beef, corn). I also ordered their pulled pork tacos, but I should have ordered their brisket since I always ordered pulled tacos (next time). My hubby ordered their BLT burger and unable to finish due to all the food were ordered. Left overs for din din for sure! We treated ourselves for Easter lunch and wanted to try something new, and we're glad we did. They offer brunch on Sunday's, but it would have been too much food for us.. lol! The place apparently went through a renovation, so it looks more open. The have TVs at the bar area, but no sound. The prices are decent $$$, and service is also great. Every time I've stopped in, the service and food has been outstanding. Overhearing a server telling a table "it'll take about 25 minutes for that dish... we make everything from scratch right here, in house." That's a great sign. Today, I stopped in for a drink and lunch. Holly, the bartender, immediately greeted me with a smile and a great drink. We continued talking, laughing between customers and my food coming out. Great personality, service and fantastic pulled pork. It seems like it must be a fun place to work in addition to a great scratch kitchen slow-smoking and grilling everything in-house. Pretty good traditional barbecue for a chain restaurant. You won't find anything super unique or fancy here--just the classics. Their baby back ribs with Memphis Dry Rub were mighty tasty and tender. Didn't even need to add any extra BBQ sauce. Grilled Bourbon BBQ chicken breast was also moist and had a good flavor sauce, but very small portion size--so be sure to choose the Create your own Combo and either get two chicken breasts, or try another meat on the menu. As for sides, I enjoy the broccoli with butter and cinnamon apples. Not fond of the baked beans. They also have premium sides for an upcharge. Smokey Bones boasts a great list of cocktails. My husband enjoyed the blood orange margarita, and I loved the Sleepy Dragon--it had those fun boba bubbles! For some reason however, bar service was so slow for lunchtime on a Wednesday. We got our food rather quickly, but the drinks took awhile. The one thing I wish they had--a larger selection of desserts, only about three items, none which sounded that appealing to order unfortunately. Fantastic BBQ! Got the combination for 2, my favorite meats were the baby back ribs and the chicken wings! The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and worth getting a full rack next time I come back. I took my family to lunch the other day before my fiance left on a business trip. We were the first customers in at 11:15am. I'm historically not a big fan of Smokey Bones. I feel like every time we go, something goes wrong. Server forgetting our order for an hour, not bringing drinks etc. This was my first time at this location, and nothing went wrong with the service. It was fine. The food took awhile to come out. I ordered the brisket baked potato and salad combo, fiance ordered the quarter chicken lunch and my son ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. Their food was fine. They both ate it without complaint. My potato tasted old, but the brisket was pretty good. My salad was great other than the weird cornbread tasting croutons. It would have been much better made out of the garlic bread. I liked the option of paying at the ziosk machine. I always feel that it creates an easier way to just leave and less awkward interaction with the server. I appreciate not having to announce that I'm ready for my check. I'll come back to try again at some point but I won't order a baked potato there again. They definitely should not be kept overnight. read more

I think it's sad when you leave a rib place and walk out just blown away by how good the broccoli was. Yet that just happened. My ranking order for the meal is as follows: 1. Broccoli 2. Smoked chicken wings 3. Brunswick stew 4. Garlic bread 5. Water 6. Baked potato 7. Wife's overdone steak (her preference) 8. The irritatingly small yet refreshing wet wipes 9. The Brunswick stew after my kid ruined it by overloading it with crackers 10. Baby back ribs That said, I would absolutely go back for a triple serving of those wings and a double order of the most amazingly perfect broccoli this guy has ever had. My wife barbecue ribs had a good flavor but they came late and cold so we had to send them back to be reheated, the hamburger I ordered tasted like boxed parties the ones you buy in the supermarket with a mediocre bun. Just ok, 2-3 star range is about right. Used to be a fan of SB in Clearwater, this location is more on the up and down. I hate inconsistency, seems like you just have to cross your fingers when you come. The Brisket here is decent, I'm not crazy about much else they got going on. Tried the crispy chicken salad for the first time, it was completely drenched in honey mustard dressing, yuck! Service here is ok, parking is not a problem, I hear they have Bingo on Tuesdays as well. SB is really nothing special. Wont be rushing back. read more

Smokey Bones was originally part of the Darden Restaurants family of chain eateries (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, etc.), but broke away about five years ago and is now owned by a different Orlando-based restaurant company. This location is opposite the Citrus Park Mall along Citrus Plaza Drive which eventually becomes Gunn Highway. This side of the street has the shopping center with all of the chain restaurants, Staples, PetsMart, Best Buy, Bed Bath, etc. They are best known for their barbecued ribs, but they also have awesome pulled pork, beef brisket, burgers, fish, lots of assorted pub grub food, and some terrific sides. They have a large seating area with rustic tables scattered around the dining room and a huge bar area with high top tables and lots of TV screens showing every-imaginable sporting event. I had resisted the urge to eat their ribs for many years because I was not a fan of the overly-sweet mopping sauce that covered everything. And finally one day *insert the sound of heralding trumpets and singing angels here* the folks at Smokey Bones started offering dry-rubbed St. Louis style ribs. Oh shut the front door!!!! The dry rub is the perfect blend of brown sugar and peppery heat, and you now have the option of table-side application of your favorite sauce including Carolina Mustard and Texan Heat. All meals come with a choice of sides, and tonight I opeted for baked Mac & Cheese along with steamed broccoli to go with my ribs. The Mac & Cheese was awesome -- the broccoli was kinda watery, but not bad. And the dry rub ribs??? Well, you'll have to go check them out for yourself. My husband and I decided bbq sounded good, but due to COVID we didn't want to dine in, so we ordered delivery from Smokey Bones online. Delivery was through Grubhub. I ordered at 4:30 and the driver texts me at 5:30 saying that the kitchen was very slow and he may have to pass it to another driver, so I offered him a larger cash tip to wait it out - I mean time is $, right?!? When the order finally arrived around 6:30 half of my order wasn't there. I checked with the restaurant and they said what I ordered wasn't on the online order ticket. The thing is, my husband was standing right there when I placed the order on my iPad and SAW me select the items. In addition to the online ordering fiasco they didn't follow instructions regarding the food. I said Memphis dry rub with bbq sauce on the side. It was slathered with sauce . I stopped into Smokey Bones for a quick bite one night after the movies. I love the smoked wings and they are discounted during the late night happy hour. When I arrived I discovered it was AYCE wings night so for just a little more than a regular order of wings cost I could get as many as I wanted and fries. This was a perfect chance for me to try other flavors as well if I desired. I started the night with my usual favorite the smoked wings which come in a sweet sugar glaze. The first order is served with 8 wings. For my next refill I tried the garlic parmesan and good thing the refills only come with 4 wings because they were yuck. Garlic parmesan is one of my favorite seasonings for wings but these had no flavor they were just greasy. So needless to say for my next refill I returned right back to my good ol' faithful the smoked wings. I sat at the bar and it was pretty empty on the evening I visited so my service was prompt and food came up quickly. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The bar wasn't as lively as it can be on a busy night but since I was there for the food not the party that was ok with me. Next time I go for AYCE wings, I'll be sure to have my appetite ready so I can capitalize on the deal. Losing weight is on my goals list for the year so I chose not to be a glutton. I've been here, once before, about 5 years ago. Since then I have become a Yelper. I looked at the reviews and saw that the bad reviews are because of the service. So dad and I went to try it out. We were seated immediately. Them not coming quickly was one of the biggest complaints I saw on Yelp. Our server was Holly. She came to our table within a minute later. During our meal she kept up with us very well to see if everything was good or to offer refills etc. The manager also came to check on us and was very pleasant. I had absolutely had no problems with the service. Not one of the things in previous Yelp reviews happened to me. Near the end of our dinner I mentioned the bad Yelp reviews regarding poor service. Holly said she has been working there for 7 years but recently they got rid of a bunch of people who were making the poor service happen. So that was most likely the problem. Anyway, I had onion rings and a burger with pulled pork and onion tangles. Dad had chicken strips. It was all very delicious and we were very happy with our server. They had an order for Mike and one for Michael and we had to figure out which one was ours. Figured we got the other person's order so, looked at attached receipt -nope it was supposedly ours. Staff obviously could care less about customers. Went back to get refund - took over 30 minutes for them to figure out how to do it. I'm a big fan of Smokey Bones, but oddly enough it's not because of their BBQ. Every time I come I end up getting something else and never make it to the ribs or the beef. Their nachos are amazing, especially with pulled pork on top. And I just cannot leave without eating a whole skillet cornbread. That thing should be regulated as a controlled substance. You might find this odd, but I think of Smokey Bones as one of the better places to get a burger. Yes, a burger. I'm not sure if it's because the nachos and cornbread have already softened me up, but I find their burgers delicious. Especially the Loaded BBQ burger topped with pulled pork and onion rings. Yum! And the night of indulgence is not complete without the doughnuts. They come hot inside a bag covered in cinnamon sugar and come accompanied with dipping sauce. Hopes this place can find a better general manager to meet those of higher expectations. Quentin Steven needs training. He continuously interrupted me while explaining my issue. He continuously raised his voice. He was not able to resolve my issue. I don't even believe he made an attempt. Honestly, our experience deserves zero stars. The only saving grace was our fantastic server, who did the best she could with the situation. Despite the kitchen looking well staffed and the restaurant not being overwhelmingly busy, we waited over a half hour for our food (counting the time from the order being placed to when we had the food brought out). We saw servers literally lined up waiting for their orders to come, but the kitchen was moving SO slow. This alone was not a big deal, as I understand things happen. When we finally got the food, it was cold. Out of three dishes, two felt barely warm and the other was just completely cold to the touch. We asked to speak to a manager and he was unapologetic & rude. He offered to reheat salmon by "popping it in the microwave." We asked for a new dish all together and he did not even follow up with our table to make sure everything worked out. I also had a sausage Mac & Cheese dish that was disgusting. I am not picky when it comes to food and will often eat whatever, but I literally could not take more than two bites of the dish. I immediately felt like the food did not settle well and wanted to throw up. I ended up being sick for a good portion of the evening when I got home. This was not just "it tasted gross" sick, but "I ate something horrible/with food poisoning" sick. The manager also did not comp us anything for the horrible experience. Our server used her personal coupons for the establishment to give us a discount off the total bill. She was very apologetic and nice throughout the evening. She also seemed scared of the manager, because she was afraid to ask him to visit the table again to take anything off our bill/address the awful Mac & Cheese dish. My family felt really bad for her. I would not recommend this place to anyone, due to the awful food and rudeness of the manager. I also felt like the manager was just as rude to his employees as he was to us, because our server was not the only person who seemed to avoid him as much as possible. I would also not recommend this place due to the visible hostile working environment created by the manager. This experience was a few weeks ago. The nachos appetizer wasn't nearly as good as I would have liked. Chips weren't great, hardly any liquid cheese. They were too dry, not nearly enough salsa. But salsa didn't taste spectacular anyway.
