Went to a hangout with coworkers today and we spent probably 2 hours here. 10-15 minutes waiting for the rest of the gang to show up, but after that...it all went downhill. I didn't have a big lunch, so I wanted to order the Smoke Stack Burger ASAP, but the waitress didn't want to order just me alone until everyone was ready. Then, we were all ready, nobody wanted to order first, so again...I said Smoke Stack Burger, she said appetizers first. After, I said Smoke Stack Burger, she comes around to me and I repeat myself. After waiting for what felt like ages, my burger arrived...and it was Smoke HOUSE Burger!! WTF?! How and where do I even begin to unleash my rage! I am docking a star since Smokey Bones no longer has those portable tuners/speakers to listen and watch each TV around the restaurant/bar area. I originally gave this place the extra star because I could enjoy my favorite team (not in New England) play and watch and hear the sounds of the game. They still offer NFL Sunday Ticket on the TVs, but no more sound for each individual game The edge is gone! The food here is still standard BBQ and average. No more bar specials during Sunday football either. It's now like going to any other bar with NFL Sunday Ticket. There are plenty of other bars with better food and specials closer to home than this place. read more

Food choices were great. Didn't have to wait forever to get food. Alex served us and he really made the experience great. He was funny, great conversation, so polite. Had been years ago and just never been in the area that often so hadnt been back. Was in the area a few weeks ago & stopped in... OMG, so mad we hadnt been in a long time. These might have been some of the best ribs I have had. I know its a chain, but these ribs were SOOOO GOOD... Drinks were cheap, there are TONS of options on the menu (Unfortunately many of them are fried or slathered in something) I would have liked more options for proteins, but otherwise it was delish and I cant wait to go back for those ribs! A good BBQ joint is hard to come by outside the city of Boston. Smokey Bones looks promising from the menu, but fails to execute on all the cornerstones of what good BBQ should be. I came in initially wanting traditional buffalo wings, which is what we started with. The wing breading was nice and crispy, and well sauced. Unfortunately the meat was way overcooked and dry. We both ordered BBQ platters for our main meals, brisket and pulled pork. Both were expensive and underwhelming for what we received. The brisket was dry, had no flavor and no bark. The meat should be able to stand on its own without drowning it in sauce, but it was barely edible without it. The side BBQ beans definitely were just Bush's beans from the can and the baked potato was soggy. The garlic bread was worse than the frozen Texas toast you can get at Market Basket, it was basically just a thick plain piece of bread. We should have just stuck to appetizers. The service was also mediocre at best. We arrived earlier in the evening on Friday and our waiter was frantically running around the restaurant when it wasn't even that busy. Maybe we'll come back for drinks and apps, but definitely not the BBQ. read more

I'm really sick after eating there. I have been vomiting all night and shaking. The wings I was served were raw, the doctor determined I have had food poisoning. I REALLY wanted to like this place. Aside from the fact I now have to be on bed rest, the experience was pretty awful. Once I got there with my party, the hostess was acting so unaware..."How long is the wait?" She responded but she seemed so confused and said at a hardly inaudible volume..."yea"...and just pointed to the bar. I took that to mean that the booths were taken. We arrive at the bar and the oder was a combination of vomit, body oder, stale cleaning fluid and I don't know what else. I understand that happens when there's a lot of people...but we went back to the hostess and requested a booth. When we did, she said,"Yea there's booths..." I said we would prefer that. She just stared at us for a second or two and then said,"...Would you like to be seated now or later?" ...."now?" It was bizarre but still I brushed it off. Now to the dining experience. Our waitress was extraordinarily rude. We said we knew what we wanted, and she kept asking a question about wings or something else confusing...I don't think she spoke clear to begin with, but was just angry in addition. No greeting, basically,"WTF DO YOU WANT?" attitude. Where I ended up saying...sorry I misunderstood you....and she just left before we ordered. We didn't get our drinks, and had to remind someone. We finally got our meals, and this is also annoying...the prices for this caliber of a restaurant with the ingredients not being that expensive...complete rip off. It's around then that I noticed this place is like a hooters, and if they have customers they can get away with ridiculous prices. You shouldn't have to pay $30 for a wings app.... When I asked for her to wrap some food up, she just handed one little box to us. I requested another box and a bag, that never came. So on our way out the food tumbled over onto the floor. Immediately after leaving is when I started to feel sick, and immediately vomited the funky food. I threw away what was wrapped up, and continued vomiting. I figured it just didn't agree with me and that would be it. All night I was vomiting and shaking and symptoms got worse. The doctor I had to see basically said my symptoms were consistent with food poisoning. I come on Yelp not to bash, but to give a heads up. I've worked in the food industry, and this place hit all of the negatives. Now I'm gunna have to pay for medical bills in addition to being ripped off, treated like crap by the staff when I was polite, despite the medium amount of people there...there is no excuse to be a droned out nasty server. Happy Hour is alive and well at Smokey Bones! Looking for a safe place to feel normal, we decided to check out Smokey Bones new [ample] outdoor seating. Our server, Logan, suggested two IPAs for my husband and I based on our preferences, 603 White Peaks and Otter Creek Free Flow. We both LOVED them and they were served in frosty mugs. We each had a second. I have to be honest that as a native Texan, I'm super-discriminate about my bbq, but the smoked buffalo wings here cannot be beat. They are truly something special. For dessert, we ordered the bag of donuts with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces and despite being stuffed before they arrived, consumed every last bite. Because I don't want to mislead anyone, I must be honest that every main entree we've had here was good but nothing to write home about but the upbeat atmosphere and the way they treat everyone like a VIP more than suffices to keep my family returning. I got the buy one get one wings for the usual Monday night special, and the wings were perfectly cooked and sauced for my family to enjoy. If the way we were greeted when we came in was any indication of how the night was going to go, then we should have known better and gone across the street to Outback Steakhouse instead. We were a party of 7 on a Tuesday night, and when we walked in, over half the place was empty, including a giant booth right near the entrance. The hostess let us know she wasn't sure if she could accomodate us, which certainly raised a few eyebrows, but let us know that she would go check. So we waited a moment, and she came back, letting us know that they could. Fantastic! We asked if we could sit in the big giant booth right by the door, we were told no, that booth is closed. Okay, well could we push two of the nearby tables together? No, that section is closed and we don't want to move those tables. Fair enough, we pointed at another section, what about over there, can we move those tables together? No, those tables are closed...are we seeing the theme yet? Perhaps a better name for this place would be, Tables Closed! I wish I could say that our service got better from there, but unfortunately the waitress made it pretty clear she really wasn't interested in providing quality service to our table. We were often ignored, or cut short when attempting to ask for refills, or to go boxes, she failed to put in a replacement food order, failed to take off a replaced item from the check. At one point a member of our party even had to get up and go into the kitchen themself to tell them they no longer want something that was taking too long to come out. Not once did we get an apology for any delays, issues with the food, or lack of overall service. The food is average, you could get it at any BBQ joint, the best thing they have going for them is a decent selection of BBQ sauce already on the table, and really the OK food and the BBQ sauce is the only reason they got 2 stars in stead of 1. Would I be willing to give them another try? Perhaps at a different location, but this particular location, never again. read more
