Like many of you I am not a fan of chain restaurants... But this place is way underrated. I begrudgingly ended up here one evening because the line at one of the other local establishments was too long. Figuring I would just make do, I ordered a plate of ribs and, to my great surprise... They were the best I've had in the area. I've gone back a couple of other times and again... Expectations were exceeded. The sides were quite decent as well. As far as ambience it might not be the greatest hang in town, but if you're looking for some good barbecue... Do not write it off just because it's a chain. Give it a chance first. read more

Had a great dinner at Smokey Bones. Hadn't been there in many years, but I'm glad we went back. Best ribs I ever had! Fall right off the bones, as it should. Sauces were great! Texas beef brisket was good too. They current have a special on wings. $5.49 for 6 wings. Not bad. If you like spicy, ask 'em for their Scorpion Sauce. Not on the menu.... Extremely spicy, and we DO eat spicy. But this one is a notch above.... $2.99 for a 22oz Bud Light, and $4 margaritas. Great deals. Our waitress, Nancy, was absolutely fantastic. Met friends here. I believe they reserved a table online. We arrived at the restaurant on time. We waited for MANY minutes at the abandoned hostess station. After a while a family showed up behind us and they were waiting as well. Meanwhile our friend was constantly receiving txt messages from the restaurant asking why we haven't arrived and if we want to cancel. There was no option to tell the app we had arrived and were waiting. At one point one of us even got the attention of a waitress and we were told to continue to wait there. They were kind enough to eventually seat us in the back of the restraunt. The night we were there, there was no heat in the front of the restaraunt. We were quite comfortable though where we were seated. I ordered their premium(signature?) 1/2 rack of ribs with the original sauce. It comes with "garlic bread" and two sides. I ordered it with the bbq baked beans and the mashed potatos with gravy. The ribs were ok. Nothing amazing, nothing bad. There wasn't quite enough sauce on them for my liking. There are sauces on the table but the BBQ sauce that was on the table tasted different than the BBQ sauce that was on my ribs. As for the sides. The BBQ baked beans were good but was a tiny portion. The mashed potatos and gravy was very good tasting but there was a skin on the gravy which means that my food sat in the kitchen for some time before it was pushed out to me. The most offensive thing on my plate was the so called garlic bread. This tasted nothing of garlic. No garlic flavor on it at all. Where you would expect butter, it looked like they used some kind of yellow oil. The bread had a very strong chemical flavor. This is likely from a cleaning agent put on the flat top. The 'garlic' bread was disgusting. Had I not been with a group of people I would have asked them to fix it. So they are supposed to be known for their ribs and I found the ribs to be just so so. I've had better ribs at other chain restaurants. My expectation overall was not super high and they failed to even meet that. I would consider going back there some day but there is no way I'd bother to order the ribs or anything that comes with that garlic bread. The one positive about the restaurant was our waitress Lily. On Sunday, March 1st, my husband and I visited the Tyngsboro location. We're repeat diners and often come throughout the summer with our Corvette Club, which has quite a few members. We always order the same dinners--House Baby Back Imported Ribs with two sides and garlic bread--and expect the delicious, fall-off-the-bone ribs we love. We were seated immediately since it was early, around 4:30, and had a very nice server who took our order. Shortly after, he brought out the most disappointing plates of burnt, fatty signature baby back ribs. When we asked to return them for what we ordered, we were told there were no imported ribs and they were substituting the signature ribs until their delivery on Tuesday. The server encouraged us to try them, but they were awful, so we asked to speak to the manager. She came out with no apology or explanation and just encouraged us to try the meal. We refused, and my husband offered to pay for his beer before we left to go somewhere else. She then told us they were creating a new menu and trying things out. There's a server we've had many times who is wonderful--unfortunately, I don't know her name--but she was bartending that day. When we were leaving, she came over, happy to see us, and we chatted before my husband shared the story. She went out back and got another manager, who listened and apologized and then rudely walked away. When we left an hour or so later, the bar seats were pretty much taken and a few tables had been occupied. SERVICE: Sara and others were friendly and attentive. FOOD: The wings app was disappointing. Very dry, we ate only a couple. When it was cleared away no one asked why we didn't eat the rest. The house smoked ribs, 1/2 rack, were very good. Very good food and very good service! I have yet to have a negative experience here, and the visits have always been top quality. Today I had the hot honey rack of ribs with loaded mashed and bbq baked beans. Everything came out hot & fresh, and was plenty of food to fill me - and have leftovers afterwards. Our server was very attentive and was checking on us consistently, but not too much. The prices here are also very reasonable given the portions you are receiving. The restaurant itself is good sized, and has plenty of seats for small or large groups. The ambiance is definitely casual but kept together very well. So let me start by saying two things number one I'm not inclined to leave negative reviews for any restaurant, and, number two. I have always had positive experiences with Smoky bones in the past. Let me tell those of you who are interested in ordering the hot chicken wings Hot buffalo chicken wings, be prepared for a surprise. I ordered them and to be quite honest with you they were so hot, I could not even finish them and you're talking to a person who many times has had over several hundred thousand Scoville. I complained about this to the bartender (Katie) who assured me that the there was nothing unusual about the wings that I was having that's always the same hot Buffalo sauce that was the same sauce they always serve. I tried to explain to her that there was something very very abnormal about this, and she really just kind of shrugged it off quite frankly. She did not attempt to reach out to report this to the manager or anything of the sort, Then shortly thereafter, two gentlemen sat at the other end of the bar in ordered the hot wings, and also reported a similar experience. Which lent. validation to my experience. Plus, when I brought the remainder back to the family, which was six out of the 12 wings I ordered, I was told in no uncertain terms there was something extraordinarily hot about these wings. So what I think happened is that they used different hot sauce, way hotter than the typical hot, unbeknownst to them, but the bartender was not aware of it, carried away nor did she have the wherewithal to reported to her boss. Because I'm telling you, I was sitting at the bar, sweating and crying because the wings were so hot. Who does not react to that seriously? . I know hot wings, for example, several years ago, I went to Quaker steak and lube in Columbus, Ohio and I had the triple atomic, and what I got was totally expected. This was on par with THAT. So again, this is uncharacteristic of me because I usually don't leave negative reviews (check my history), but the fact that the bartender summarily disregarded my comments despite physical manifestations, I felt compelled to report this to you folks. And maybe they'll just fix it or whatever but this is something that definitely happened and I wanted to share it with you just in case somebody has a sensitivity to super hot wings or something along those lines. Ordered food here two times in the 4 days I stayed in the area. Very friendly staff, helped me through the menu and gave advice on what they would recommend when I was stuck between options. Both times I did to-go orders so I can't say much about the atmosphere in-restaurant. Though the place did look clean and the sound inside wasn't overbearingly loud. I wasn't that big of a fan of the loaded chili, a bit on the watery side. The ribs were great though! If I come back out to the area I will definitely stop by again! read more

But tonight the food portions compared to price were almost downright embarrassing. Decided to start with the mini nachos which I assumed where just a half Portion considering the full was $19.99 so for 9.99 we got about 7 chips in a 6" cast iron pan, I know it said mini but this was ridiculous. Then I ended up getting the pick 2 with two sides, the chicken wasn't even 6oz and the end of my fork was half the size of the breast along with it being paper thin, the steamed broccoli was one degree above cold, the jalapeno cheddar sausage was tastey along with the garlic toast you get in the market basket frozen section def not worth $23. I've eaten at this Smokey Bones a few dozen times over the years. The menu is a bit limited, but the food and service are generally good. Today, however, I had an issue with both the server and manager being unwilling to honor their own menu. The menu offered a cup of stew or small salad for $3.99, with the purchase of a burger. However, my check had the cup of stew at the standard $5.99 price. I questioned this, and the answer was that the stew or salad was in place of the standard side item, which I did have, but the menu doesn't say that. The menu doesn't say "Upgrade your side to a stew or salad for $3.99", it simply says add the stew or salad for $3.99. I even complained to the manager, to no avail. Not only was the manager unwilling to honor her own menu as written, but she lacked the vision to see that she was buying herself more than $2.00 worth of bad publicity. Never mind the fact that she mis-read her own menu, she should have taken off the $2.00 as a gesture of goodwill, to keep a customer happy. I'll freely admit to being a bit persnickety when it comes to details like this. When you tell me something is ABC, then I expect ABC. Worst experience ever, worst service ever, EPIC LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM...I had a group of about 30 people order catoring for an engagement party and was confirmed by both their in house staff as well as the 3rd party that we had sent the order through (EZ cator) that the order would be ready on time. When it came time (mind you this was a dinner party we were catoring) the order was no where to be found. And the establishment had no idea we even ordered their catoring service despite 2 people from our party including myself (twice) all made individual phone calls to the tyngsboro location to confirm the order would be ready. This was just the beginning when of our issues. We had reserved an event space to acomadate the party that we could no long use as we all had to go sit down at a new restaurant and order off menu in house. (the restaurant was actually cheaper than catoring the food)It has been 4 days since the issue and smokey bones has failed to reach out to me with a solution or even an apolog. this is absolutely outrageous behavior from a chain business and needs to be addresse. if you are ordering Catoring through smokey bones pick anything else youll be better off. Not only did they royally screw us out of our PAID 1000+$ order and our venue that we paid for but they also cost us even more money by having to find a new place to feed our party, and to make it even worse, for some like to be average at best catoring service they taxed the hell out of us to the point sitting 30 guests down at a full service restaurant was actually cheaper. Came to this location of Smokey Bones for the first time and ate in during the pandemic. Hubby and I ordered their fried pickles appetizer, $13, and the Bone Fire (a new menu item, which is a combination of steak, sausage, grilled chicken, ribs, wings, onions, potato wedges, and peppers) for 3 people, which was around $53. Total came out to around $70. What's Hot - Quality. Definitely don't recommend the bone fire option. Their fried pickles were delicious, though. All the batter stuck to the pickles and the weren't overly battered. Generally speaking, their menu items are pretty good, but we weren't thrilled with their bone fire option. - Menu variety. Pretty decent. There's a good variety- there's seafood, vegetarian items, pasta, sandwiches, salads, etc... With the exception of vegan, they have a decent number of items. - Parking. Pretty decent size parking lot, which is helpful, because this place can get busy. - Price. Pretty good value for money. For $53 for the bone fire option for 3 people, there was a decent amount of meats. There were probably 2 sausages and grilled chicken breasts, 8 wings, and probably over 8 ribs. - Portions. For the amount of meats for 3 people, it was a pretty good for portions and value for money. What's Not - Service. Terrible service. To be fair, they appear short staffed. However, hubby and I came before their dinner rush and the restaurant probably 1/4 full. Our waters weren't refilled; we waited quite a while to get anything; our check took quite a while to get; and we rarely saw our waiter whenever we needed something. I understand that many restaurants are short-staffed, so many are doing what they can. Point is to be prepared to wait and not to get everything you need and/or want. - Quality. The bone fire wasn't great. To be fair, it wasn't bad, but it didn't knock our socks off. The meats were all tender, but it wasn't well-seasoned. Most of the meat wasn't that warm, either. It appears the whole purpose of the bone fire option is that the meat comes out warm and is able to stay warm longer. That was definitely not the case. There are 2 pieces of coal in a little burner at the bottom of the bucket, which kept the meat "warm". Only the items directly above the little burner and the bottom meat layer on the grill was remotely warm. The ribs that were on the top layer, stacked above other ribs, and other meat laid out physically the same, were cool, which took away from the flavor. Would not recommend this specific item. We've had better items from Smokey Bones before. - Health and safety. During this time of the pandemic, we didn't see any of their staff with masks. It didn't appear they were taking any health and safety measures. I empathize that there are obstacles to adhering to health and safety standards. However, it's reassuring to see staff taking precautions for the good of the public, especially because the pandemic evolves and is uncertain. It's one of the reasons why hubby and I mostly order takeaway. Their lack of health and safety measures will mean that if hubby and I return, we'll probably order takeaway.
