Highly disappointed in this place tonight. I placed a to go order and when I arrived to the pick up counter to pick it up the person at the counter took a few minutes to acknowledge me due to laughing and talking with security. When she did give me my items key condiments for my nachos were left out-i had to drive all the way back just to get some salsa and sour cream which took 10 mins due to employees standing around just looking without acknowledging me. When I did finally get home, the nachos were dry, barely had any cheese on them- when I paid for double cheddar jack. Just sad. Both my hubby and I were jonesing for BBQ and we normally goto Famous Dave's. we had decided to try something new and came to Smokey Bones. The host was super nice and very accommodating. We were sat immediately. Then, we waited. And waited. And waited. My 2yr old kept on telling me she was hungry and I had to give her "snacks" instead of real food as we haven't even been acknowledged. Finally, Carolina came and told is that she would be right with us. My husband had to ask her to at least put the baby's order in, chicken fingers, broccoli with ranch. The reason why she took so long to acknowledge us was she had friends (or regulars) next to us and they were more important to talk to rather than doing her job. She finally came back and took the rest of our order. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with extra crispy fries. My hubby ordered the baby back ribs with broccoli and mac & cheese. At that time, I ordered the baby's apple juice. In the meantime, the manager came and strolled the dining room. She stopped at almost every table but ours. Not sure why. Maybe because we didn't have any food or drinks?! She did, however, stop at the table of regulars. As we sat and waited, another server delivered the baby's order because our server was too busy with her table of friends, again. We had asked the guy for the baby's apple juice, as she had nothing to drink. Our food finally came and, like the baby's food, was cold because it was sitting under the heat lamps. We could see our food from where we were sitting. My sandwich was good but my fries were soggy. The mac & cheese was great and the garlic bread that is served with the platter was awesome. Unfortunately, the baby back ribs were bland. We had noticed that two parties that arrived and sat down after us, had already left. My baby was done, as well. I don't think we will be coming back. I really, really want to love this restaurant... but every time I go there, the service is always so slow. It doesn't seem to be the server's fault... I think they actually need more help. Anyway, the food tastes good and the prices are decent. Last time I was there, the chicken came out cold. Our server ordered new chicken for us, but again... it came out after everything else was already eaten. I then had issues with my Smokey Bones account (seems I've lost some points...argh!) The server provided a free dessert...which was delicious. Anyway, the restaurant needs more servers like Nycole... she's the only reason that this review is not fewer stars. She managed to keep a helpful attitude throughout the dinner and we could tell that she really was doing her best to make the meal a good experience for us. read more

Very very satisfied with everything from our most recent visit at this location. The server Janine was amazing. She's a favorite of ours from a few years back. The food was delicious and the restaurant was following great guidelines for COVID. I haven't had the issue of eating too much but everything was so good. Highly recommend this place and they do great for take out as well! read more

First time eating here tonight. Love that it's open late night. We did have to wait a little while for our server. But when he arrived, our server, Scott, was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We got the skillet cornbread as an appetizer. It wasn't bad but its definitely not a traditional kind of cornbread. More like a dense cake. My husband got the double trouble (half babyback ribs and half stl ribs). He nodded when I asked him if they were good. I created my own combo with double brisket and the 1/4 bbq chicken. The brisket was amazing, soft and flavorful. Huge portions! All the sauces were yummy. My husband got the bourbon blackberry lemonade and I think he's buzzed. I used to love Smokey bones many years ago, but there's a while their food and service down to the hill that I didn't come to here for about 5-6 years. Just started recent two months, I decided to try it again(always carry out) for three times, only last time the ribs were a little dry, other than that everything was great. I love their corn bread, especially their special made pecan butter(I always asked for extra). I also love their Smokey wings, they has unique taste which was different than every other places. After waiting 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, and seeing how nasty dirty the kitchen was, we decided not to even try them out. My husband said the bathroom was disgusting. They had almost no people dining in at 5:30pm on Easter Sunday (red flag). I watched a server make a sweet tea and overflow it all over the kitchen floor (to join the napkins and food debris everywhere. He just shook his hand out and delivered the drink to a table. I have come here for a while since they have opened up. I normally get Caroline, who is a very prompt and attentive waitress. She is really good at keeping the table alive and keeping the drinks at the table topped off and checks up on us regularly. Food was brought out quickly and promptly as well and if there are any problems or concerns she will do anything to make it right. I would highly recommend Caroline as a waitress. She will assist anyone she can to make things right and make the customer feel happy and welcome as well. Also as a side note, this place has been remodeled and looks nicer than it did before. First off, our server (Zero) was relatively new, (I remembered him from the Bob Evans down the street) but made his best efforts to answer our questions about the menu. Which I really appreciate. Words cannot describe how terribly disgusting this food was. This was hands-down the WORST so-called "BBQ" food I have ever attempted to digest in my life. I seriously think that the only reason why they are still in business is because Famous Daves is just across the street and is ALWAYS crowded, so people who don't want to wait will come here instead by default.They don't even have potato salad here... what the hell type of "BBQ" establishment doesn't have potato salad? My friend got "beef brisket" and he mentioned that it was very tough. It really looked like beef jerky with bbq sauce on it. I'm surprised he was actually able to get it down. I got the bbq pulled pork sandwich; the pork wasn't even pulled, it was more like a boneless non-seasoned pork chop on top of bread. It also did not automatically come with cole slaw which was weird because I've never had a bbq sandwich without cole slaw or onion "straws". I had to douse the sandwich in bbq sauce (which was also not bad, but tasted like they got it straight out of the grocery store), "onion straws", and cheddar cheese; I also had to have my friend order some cole slaw as one of his "sides" and add that to the sandwich. After all of those enhancements, it still lacked having much flavor. Since I couldn't get potato salad, I was forced to get loaded mashed potatoes (which was really some cold potatoes with cold, non-melted cheese and soggy bacon on top). The icing on the cake was the fact that as soon as we left (like, literally as I stepped out of the door), my stomach started hurting. My friend's stomach started hurting shortly after as well. Coming here is basically like getting a colonic. I think it's safe to say that I will never return. read more

Came here for lunch it was almost empty. I found it was a bit cold in there and too dimly lit, but I have that problem with a lot of restaurants, so it's not necessarily unbiased. My husband had a rack of ribs with broccoli and baked beans. It was also served with a slice of garlic bread. I ate the tacos with brisket which was part of the lunch menue. We both enjoyed our food. Though I must add, mine was just enough to fill me up, I do think if a man ordered this dish he might have left hungry or needed to order desert. We had two Softdrinks. The bill came to somewhat over $40 which i think is slightly more expensive than other restaurants that serve BBQ in Woodbridge. But we also liked the food better, so it's ok. read more

Ok...my technique of glazing over reviews needs work. Apparently, there's a Smokey Bones and a Dixie Bones. Thankfully, I didn't get screwed on this one. However, I'm still going to skim reviews. Reading takes too much effort and reeks of caring. Not a bad choice for ribs. I ordered up a St Louis ribs plate with some pulled pork. The pulled pork was a little dry but tasty. The sauce wasn't bad at all. The ribs were pretty tender, falling off the bone. In a direct head to head with Famous Dave's, I gotta go Smokey Bones. The cole slaw was crunchy with a not overpowering tangy flavor. The fire roasted corn was essentially corn kernels that were mildly burnt. Not bad. The only downside was the portion size. 17 dollars later, I was still hungry. The sweet tea hit the spot, not the best I've had and not the worst. The service was good. The waitress was able to read my mind with respect to refills. When my tea hit the halfway mark, she came through with another tea. Nice. The place is decorated like a lodge or a log cabin. I might head back here after I give Dixie Bones a shot. read more

Waited around 20 minutes for a table. When we were seated, I noticed that around 15-20 tables were empty. I jokingly asked the host if someone reserved 18 empty tables. He told me that the kitchen was getting too backed up, so rather than bring the food out slowly, they just stopped seating people. Ok then. The people behind me spent the whole night sending their food back over and over because it wasn't cooked correctly and complaining to the manager. I saw the waiter drop food on the floor for the table to the left of me. I ordered the cornbread appetizer, and for entre, ordered the brat bites (or something like that), which is sliced bratwurst with some dipping sauces. I asked the waiter if it comes with any sides, and he told me it doesn't because it's an appetizer. I showed him on the menu where it says it's an entre but he insisted it's an appetizer. Later on he came back and told me that I'm right, it is an entre and he got confused. Anyway, appetizers and entres were served simultaneously. The cornbread was overcooked and tasted nothing like cornbread. It was more like a yellow corn-tasting cake. It was light and fluffy instead of dense and flavorful. The bratwurst was overcooked to death. It was so overcooked that I could hardly get my fork into it. I've cooked sausage before and it's very hard to overcook a sausage. I have no idea how they managed to screw this up. The pretzel was rubbery tasting, as if it was frozen and microwaved. The dipping sauces, french fries, and beans were really good and almost made up for the fact that the bratwurst sucked. read more

Had a desire for some barbecue. I had heard of Smokey Bones, but had not been there. Checked it out online and decided to give it a try. What a great decision I made. Every employee spoke with us and it was clear they loved their jobs. I like to have an appetizer first and to just take my time. This allowed for more conversation, to include the manager Miko. What a charming and accommodating manager. The food was outstanding. We ordered a build your own sampler. I wish I had some of the brisket and smoked chicken wings now. Yummy! Of all the barbecue places I've been to in my life, this was the worst one of them all. Dave's BBQ beats SB hands down. The service at SB was TERRIBLE. After being seated nobody came to take our drink order for about 15 minutes. We got our drinks then waited another 20 minutes for the very rude waitress to take our order. It was like we were an inconvenience to her and taking up her time and making her work. I ordered the ribs because you can't have a good BBQ house without good ribs. Well, we waited almost 1 hour to get our food. I had to flag 3-4 people down to ask where our food was. I was about to pay for my drinks and go to Dave's when the food came out...cold. So before the waitress could leave after delivering the food, I made her bring it back. 30 minutes later we had warm food. I have now been here for 2 hours and am just getting my food. Really? I got the feeling that the managers didn't care either. How was the food? It was the worst 2 hours I've ever wasted in my life. The food was terrible and dry that didn't taste good no matter how much extra sauce you would put on. I stopped after the 2nd rib and asked to speak to a manager. He said everything looked fine and asked what my problem was. He said he didn't notice me here for over 2 hours. He said they serve quality food and that there was nothing they could do. Wow. That was a first. So here I am NOT recommending Smokey Bones. Beware that going there you may have problems with the wait staff wanting to help you or the managers actually caring. This place should be closed. Go to Dave's BBQ across the street or go to Dixie Bone down on Rt. 1 if you want good service and food. read more

Just a quick addition to my previous review. Went to Smokey Bones this afternoon on a shopping trip out to try to find some essentials at a store. Wasn't sure what to expect with all of the fear that everyone seems to understandably have. I could not have been more impressed with the sincere measures this particular restaurant is taking. If there is anywhere safe to eat out, this is the place. Condiments are no longer sitting on the tables, the place is bringing those out in individual servings upon request, so no fear of who may have last handled that last bottle of BBQ sauce. Care was taken to keep as much distance as possible between customer when we were seated. While we were eating, I observed how meticulous our waitress, Caroline was at clearing another table when a group left. While clearing the dishes, the table rope display was sanitized, and she had on protective gloves that were disposed of before bringing our food. Even the salt shakers were brought out on request and disinfected when customers left. Once dishes were cleared, she again put on fresh gloves and thoroughly cleaned the table surface, and she carefully wiped down each chair at the table. It is clearly going to be a tough stretch in time for businesses serving food, but it was good to know that there is a place where we can eat without any reservation about eating there during this Coronavirus crisis. Nice to see management going beyond just sending out emails to make customers feel confident... Smokey Bones is sincere about looking out for its customers. Unquestionably one our favorite places to eat out. The food is great, the recent redesign of the interior is comfortable, and we have experienced consistent service by many servers over the years since this place opened. Caroline has been the best of the best on the staff there. She not only makes sure everything is just right, but treats first time customers and her regulars like family members. Going out to eat there always feels like dinner with our favorite friends and relatives and is why we frequent Smokey Bones a number of times each month. The menu is more diverse than many BBQ establishes offer. The Nachos are the best around and make a great lunch option when shopping in Woodbridge, but everything there is great when a larger meal is what we are looking for, and that is what makes it one of the top 3 restaurants we frequent. Arrived here at 8pm on a Friday night, starved! The place wasn't that busy. My daughter and I were seated right away, which was a plus. However, it went all downhill from here. It took another 10 minutes for our server to find us for our drink orders. We placed our food orders right away and it took 38 minutes (yes, I timed it based on my Yelp check-in) for our meals to arrive. My daughter ordered a burger and I had a double-meat combo platter. When the server finally brought us our plates, he did apologize, and told us it took awhile to make the kettle chips. He also mentioned that he would bring us some more because they did not put enough on our plates. Really? Ok, it's now past 9pm and my poor daughter is fighting sleep. This was an awesome eating experience. Food was great, service was awesome, water was wet and cold.

We have been here a few times, but our last visit was this past weekend before the birth of our new son. We had their smoked wings as an appetizer and I must say that they are pretty good. They kind of remind me of the wings at Hard Times Cafe... spice rubbed and not all sauced up. They are very tasty and easy to eat. I had a BBQ platter as usual. I got the brisket, the pulled pork and the sausage. All the meats were very good, although the brisket was a bit too fatty on some pieces and underseasoned on other pieces (but don't get me wrong...still good). The loaded baked potato also was tasty. They have a reasonable beer list for a chain restaurant. They had the Sam Adams Winter Lager on tap now so I was happy. The service was pretty good too. Overall, decent experience. read more

I'm not connoisseur of the bbq, but I know how to enjoy a well executed smoked chicken or grilled brisket. I also know what to expect out of chain restaurants. Seems like most folks on here are fooled into believing you'll find the real deal Holyfield standing in the lobby of every Famous Daves, Smoky Bones, Red Hot & Blue. What really sets this place apart from what brings most people in the restaurant & what keeps them coming back is the service. I agree the decor is intriguing & the food is decent. For most places like this, not fckn up your food order is half the battle. the other half is feeling that you had a great dining experience. Items ordered: kids smoked chicken w/cinnamon, smokey bones burger, pulled pork sandwich w/slaw, and wings smokey bones bbq flavor/garlic buffalo sauce w/baked beans.
