This restaurant space has been unoccupied for quite some time so I have been eager to see what would replace the last business. Well bay-beeee this new restaurant did not disappoint! It is still a BBQ restaurant but this time, it is black owned and the proprietor is Cam Newton. The layout is the same as when it was Smoke Ring and it is still spacious and clean. I sat at the bar and originally came to try the ribs and the brisket but the Mayor had a large order that day that wiped them out of both meats. Therefore, I redirected and ordered the Fried Pickles, the Sampler Plate with 1/4 chicken and pulled pork with the sweet and spicy BBQ sauces, dirty rice, and collard greens to eat and the house margarita to drink. When I say EVERYTHING was delicious?!! I was pleasantly surprised that the meats were so tender and the sides were so flavorful! The bartender/bar manager Khas was dope as heck! He was pleasant, patient, personable, and made my experience 100% awesome! I will most certainly be back and look forward to becoming a regular at this spot.

We stumbled across this place as we parked in the parking deck next door. We had two hours to kill before the game started so we decided to go check it out and watch the Georgia before we headed to the stadium for the Atlanta United game. As soon as I walked in I didn't feel the vibe. Not one worker greeted us, we say the sign that said " please seat yourself" so me and my friends found a table and sat down. We waited about 10 minutes to see if anyone would come to us but nope. There were other customers there but no one came around after they got their food. After 10 minutes went by I decided to wave down a server. She came took our orders, brought us out drinks and someone else brought us out food. We didn't see her again until i waved an employee down AGAIN for our check. The place wasn't even busy for them to not serve us. And I was annoyed that they automatically added 18% gratuity for 3 people because they didn't deserve it! Right before we left a group of people came in and played their instruments which was cool to see As for the food, we ordered the sampler platter. Which I didn't really care to eat. I took a few bites and I wasn't a fan. The brisket, and chicken was really dry. Ribs were okay but the brisket was really most and had good flavor. The margarita was pretty good. I probably would not be coming back here

Parking Being right downtown I assumed I would have to pay for parking. To my pleasant surprise I was able to find free street parking close by. If you aren't able to find street parking, I did notice a garage around the corner. Service Our waitress was kind, attentive and answered our questions about the menu. We appreciated her honest opinions. Ambiance Being a Friday, I expected there to be much more of a crowd but there wasn't. And that's fine by me! I can see this being a popular place during game days. There is lots of seating and a nice bar area. There are a fews mounted onto the walls that were displaying sports shows. Food They do have happy hour specials. I arrived just after happy hour ended so I wasn't able to take advantage of any of the deals. I ordered smokey marg and the fish plate. The plate came with two sides and I decided on greens and the mac & cheese. My marg was good - a bit too sweet to compliment the smokey flavor but still a good drink. The fish had great flavor and cooked well. My favorite part of my meal was the collard greens. The mac & cheese disappointed me - it was too heavily seasoned with garlic powder. I opted for the dirty rice instead which was also heavily seasoned with pepper but not bad. For a $15 plate I hated that I was given plastic ware to eat it with :(

Finally this place is on Yelp. Went by a week after their opening. Good things - sports bar, casual vibe, good decor with a stallion in the center stage, chicken wings, beef brisket Mediocre - pulled pork, Smokey ribs Absolutely poor- chicken leg, that just don't have enough servers, they were running behind on a slow Thursday evening Street parking options

Forced tip for crappy service

12/30/2023 @ 4:00pm approximate arrival. I would not recommend anyone to go to this resturant. I only gave it a two(food) because my wife liked the burger. First, there is automatically a 15% gratuity added to your bill (I tip well for good service as I used to work for service when I was younger). Force tip promotes crappy service. She took our order and never saw her again until the bill after 5pm. She already printed them ahead of time. No refills on drinks, how you are doing, NOTHING. She had no name tag and wore a yellow shirt. She went by indi on the receipt. This place should of been packed wall to wall since a stones throw to the Mercedes Benz stadium. No manager/owner checking in customers. Bartender brought out the food. No condiments on the table, we had to get up and go ask for them from the bartender. Again waitress no where to be seen or helpful. Food Appetizer, Pretzel had no flavor and cheese dip was over cooked Pulled pork sandwich was dry and wasn't a fan of the sauce (maybe it was just because of the little amount of sauce). Fries were great for some odd reason. Presentation looked good. My wife liked the stallion burger and fries. But again no service for refills. This is for the owner. Now this was really odd, drinks come out in a plastic solo type cup and silverware was pre-packaged white fork and knife with napkin salt and pepper. I get this for to go orders but not sit down meals. Come on owner this isn't that type of restaurant. This shows that this won't be in business much longer. The layout of this place was wasted by not putting in more seating. This place could be great location. The manager or owner should be out on the floor to check on customers (never did see them). Ticket time was way to slow with the amount of volume of people that were there. We paid cash, god knows how long it would of taken for that process.

Enjoyed a delightful lunch here. Huge spot good for groups or just a date. Lots of street parking but also walkable. The food was great and big portions. Our server was friendly and checked in on us. Would visit again as they have tons of themed events like wing Wednesday. Loved the pulled pork sandwich.

Such great and casual food! Vibe was relaxed and service was fast. Was in the area for the weekend and I'm so glad I checked this place out!

Mushy, grimy "chicken"
Roy N.

Live across the street so always want to support local. Food has been ok but the last trip was bad - ordered a club salad for pick up and the chicken was far from fresh, mushy and pretty much scraps. Phone never rang to call back so leaving this review in hopes they improve. Would have watched the games there but TVs playing with a 90s DJ hella loud isn't my kinda college game day either.

What better way to deal with the blahs of a rainy day than to go out for BBQ. Smokey Stallion did not disappoint. The service was friendly and the food was down home good!! I'll be back for sure.

Smoked Turkey leg plate with greens and dirty rice

Food is delicious and the service is great! This is going to be my new BBQ spot. I highly recommend coming and will be back. Everything I got was really good: The smoked Turkey, greens, dirty rice, and loaded nachos. They also had a live DJ (I went on a late Saturday afternoon) and he was playing great music to match the vibe.

Fried pickles

Not a BBQ spot...Ordered pulled chicken on a spud. It was simply chunks of chicken with zero smoke flavor. Fried pickles...breading was nice, tempura I believe but soggy and soft. "Fresh angus beef" with a buffalo chicken wing. It was supposed to have buffalo sauce. It was a frozen burger. It was cooked well with decent flavor but still a frozen patty.

Brisket plate. Horrible. $19 for 3 thin slices of brisket on a piece of white bread

First time visiting Atlanta and had to stop by and try out this highly rated establishment and so happy I made it part of my list. We arrived towards the end of the night with enough time before closing but obviously not realizing there are a few dishes that sell out so keep that in mind. Nevertheless service was stand out once we walked in and were kindly greeted by the host. We then sat down at our table and were then greeted with our server Tiffany. Let me just say we need a Tiffany everywhere, this girl really went above and beyond and truly welcomed us and genuinely was just a pleasure to interact with through out the whole visit. She really wanted to give us the best experience and recommendations for our first visit and let me just say everything was amazing and the service was top tier, such a great place with a great atmosphere, service and amazing food. What more can you ask for. She would def be the reason we visit Atlanta again and go back to eat here.

If there was a rub, it was subtle to the point of being almost untasteable. Quarter rack of Ribs: poor. Meaty, but far too tough, definitely not fall off the bone. Again lacking in flavor, and burnt in spots. Side of Mac n Cheese: easily the start of the show. Very flavorful, baked and not swimming in cheese sauce, possible notes of ritz crackers detected. I'd have eaten a main course sized portion, and imagine it could mix well with pulled pork or chopped brisket, should Matt's ever consider expanding their repertoire of meats. Side of potato salad: also very solid. Simple but nicely flavored, just creamy enough. Side of collards: fine but unremarkable. Bbq sauce: decent-ish, more tangy than sweet. Very thick. Packaging : Matt's really could improve here. The ribs and chicken, piled together between two slices of white bread, was wrapped in white paper which was in turn stuffed into a paper bag with the containers of sides. This was messy- yes, bbq is by nature a messy undertaking, but a clamshell container would've made the whole fiasco a lot easier to deal with. A fork and spoon were included, no knife... and no napkins. Really? For a paper wrapped oversauced pile of meat... not even a single napkin? I honestly would've been fine paying an extra buck or so for some better packaging and, IDK, maybe a wetnap. Overall, this bbq lover was unimpressed. Perhaps the rave reviews made my expectations too high. I've honestly had better bbq at multiple places in my relative bbq desert hometown of Boston. I was hoping for a real treat during my business trip to Atlanta; instead, I'm yearning for the joint near my suburban New England home...

What initially brought me in was Atlanta Burger Week, and I ordered their featured burger to take advantage of the special. While the burger was good, the real star of the meal was the smoked barbecue fried rice with brisket. It was absolutely fantastic.
