I don't usually give 1 star reviews on yelp unless I have a terrible experience. This was not my first time here, but it was definitely my last. My mom and I came in for lunch to get an order to go. Our order was 3 Buffalo Chicken Wraps ($10/each), 1 Large Coleslaw ($5.50) and 1 Large Sweet Potato Fries ($7.50). My total was $44.43. After waiting 40 minutes when we were told 20-25 minutes, we checked over our order and were missing the sweet potato fries. We told the woman who gave us our food we were missing our fries, so she told the owner and his response was "I didn't hear you order the fries, sorry, but I didn't charge you for them". Clearly he doesn't care about his customers because he CLEARLY did charge us for them. Do the math! $30 + $5.50 doesn't equal $44.43. Also, he totally did hear me order them because he did charge me for them, and he repeated the order back to me. I didn't feel like arguing with him after waiting 40 minutes, but be careful, this guy will try to steal your money! Since the owner lied to my face, didn't refund me, or try to make the situation better I will never support this place again. read more

I ordered a large Party Pack and some other things for a large party at my house....it was INCREDIBLE!! It came in ready to serve containers so we put it right out on a buffet table and served dinner. The BBQ was excellent, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Brisket, side dishes, salads...all cooked and prepared perfectly. My family and guests voted unanimously "best cornbread on the planet!!" Pretty much everyone in the group went back for seconds!! During a recent visit to the area, we visited this place and it as well setup for social distancing for sure. The service could be improved though. With that said, the food was alright but not the greatest. I felt like it could have used more flavor to their food. One of the few restaurants I've seen in NorCal or Tahoe that makes a serious effort at social distancing setup, tables truly spaced more than six feet apart, dividers, etc. They're trying hard to take care of their customers. tl;dr : Worst BBQ ever. They forgot to prepare my order, and they took almost an hour to get me my food, and the meats were tough and dry and terrible, and they got my order wrong on top of all this. Was told it would be about 10 minutes. 30 minutes later my food still wasn't ready. I'm watching people come in and out of the place with their food, while I'm still waiting. I asked what happened to my order. She doesn't know what happened. Kitchen didn't make my food yet. No apologies, no explanation. 20 !@#$ing minutes later I finally get my food and leave. When I get home I open my to-go container...and my meats are swimming in sauce. Remember I asked for no sauces? Sigh. I tried the ribs--they were as tough and dry as beef jerky. 3 tiny little beef jerky ribs. I fished one of my two slices of brisket out of the sauce--tough as shoe leather. Then I tried a bite of chicken--tough overcooked and dry. You've got to be kidding me. I couldn't believe I just paid $30 for this tiny little plate of terrible food. This is undoubtedly the worst BBQ I've ever had. I know it's California, I know it's Truckee, I know everything is really expensive here...but come on. They didn't even try. They gave half a plate of the toughest driest most overcooked BBQ meats I've ever had the displeasure of eating and charged me 30 fucking dollars for it. Needless to say, I will never ever ever go to this place again. And I'll make sure that all my friends and family know to skip this place as well. And so should you, if you have any sense. read more

Overpriced, small portions, low quality food, nothing special ambience, and poor service. We've been to most of the restaurants in Truckee and this has been our worst experience. 1. Fried pickles for ~$10 were 4 spears about 2 inches each 2. Asked if baked beans were vegetarian, told they were. Came up with pieces of meat in them. $5 for a cup the size of a sauce cup. 3. Kids menu pasta was finished by our 18 month year old and left him hungry. Can't imagine a 12 year old having this 4. Tried using 10% Yelp check-in, told it was not valid and sorry they don't control their Yelp or google page or offers there. 5. Charged extra for using a credit card (illegal?) 6. Everything was overpriced. Soda was $5 (missed that price), domestic beer was $12 (fortunately avoided). Was $100 for 2 adults and a toddler for 1 app + 2 entrees + kids meal + 1 soda, and left us hungry. Will not be returning. read more

Decent size portions, really good garlic fries (I do love those and can be kinda picky) and I enjoyed prompt and friendly service. I was there just pre-covid shut down so I imagine they have had to roll with a few punches, but I would definitely go back. Great food, prompt service, reasonable prices. I had the pulled pork with cheddar and the Smokey's salad with their house dressing; both were delicious. That being said, there are a few areas that need improvement. While I was eating, the dishwasher and the busser were openly venting their workplace grievances in the dining area. The manager was gone on a food delivery (why is the manager delivering food when there are businesses like doordash that do it for a living?) and the chef had to come out of the kitchen to see why nobody was picking up completed dine-in orders from the pass window after repeated bells. Little things like bringing ice water with a thin slice of lemon to each customer upon seating would be welcome too! The lemon is refreshing and helps to cover up the chlorinated water we have. Came here last week while on a brief work trip. Sat outside in some great weather and amazing scenery. I ordered the sliders- 1 with pulled pork, 1 with brisket. Both came on a fresh made biscuit with coleslaw and house made bbq sauce. The biscuit was a great idea for a signature touch, but way to crumbly and messy to be of any use for such a sando. The pulled pork had great flavor and worked well with the slaw. The "brisket"... thin sliced and dried out. May have been a rump roast sliced thin with a fat cap that was more chewy than buttery. God I would love to give this place an amazing review but after today I have to stick with the one I'm about to leave. Finally the waiter comes over and is cursing and complaining to us about how busy it is and pretty much made us feel like we were not appreciated for coming into his establishment. Food comes out, it's good up nothing to rave about. 1 star for worst birthday lunch ever. So 5 stars to start, 1 star to end = 3 stars and a zero return from me. I can keep my money circulating at any of the other various establishments in beautiful Truckee. **note to owners/management: if you are understaffed and your servers are stretched thin, then I suggest you have them stop accepting guests until they can catch up. Service ranged from apathetic to outright rude. They said food would be at least 30 minutes because people were still ordering breakfast and as well as lunch so they hadn't changed the kitchen over over yet. I asked if it would be faster to order breakfast - was told no. This seems like something that would be an everyday issue that they should have figured out as part of running a restaurant. I was very disappointed in the service this time. Every time I pass thru Truckee I've always stopped here to eat. Probably for the past 13 years. This time I had my mom and sister with me and I wanted to share their good food with them. We walk inside and start looking at the menu. We're told if we are dining in, we can sit outside and someone can take our order for us. So we picked a table outside and waited for our server... and waited, and waited. There are only 5 tables outside and 4 were being used. One being ours. Waitress came out several times to follow up with the other tables. After probably about 10 minutes, some guys come to the table behind us but it's dirty. The waitress comes out, passes our table, greets these guys and cleans the table for them. While cleaning, she ask if she can start them with a few drinks. Not once did anyone talk to us or even acknowledge us. We ended up leaving right after this. If it was super busy, I could overlook this but it wasn't. 3 tables outside and probably 2 tables inside. At anytime they could have said, "Sorry, I'll be right with you". It almost felt deliberate. I went to this restaurant with my family a few weeks ago in November 2021 expecting to eat some good food according to the ratings for this place. Once were at the table and I received my food, it took me a few bites of my burger to figure out that there was hair in my food. After finding the first one I told myself it was no big deal after finding the second one I told myself maybe this is just a coincidence after finding the third and fourth one I got really upset. I later told the waitress about my experience and she said she would mention it to The owner, which I don't believe she did. It actually looked like her hair so now I'm sharing my experience with everyone else here. As a sidenote, I was expecting to have some good food because of the ratings of this restaurant we're so high but at the quality of the food was not as great as expected. It was pretty basic. I've loved this place so much in the past. I would always order the BBQ chicken Cobb salad and I would look forward to it every time we came to Truckee. But it seems like it gets smaller every year and this past time was just disappointing. This salad costs $24!! And there was barely any chicken on it and they hid the amount of chicken by covering it with tortillas strips and putting large amounts of blue cheese on it. The salad was basically some cherry tomatoes, tons of tortilla strips, lots of blue cheese, and bacon. Barely any greens or chicken. It's too bad. We just aren't excited about this place anymore.
