The smoked brisket fries are top tier, definitely my fav! I stumbled upon Smokin' Jays while walking around the Channel Islands Harbor. I split the smoked brisket fries with a friend and the next THREE times I went back to Smokin' Jays I wanted to try something new, but I just kept getting those damn brisket fries lol they're too good. They smother them in bbq sauce and a gouda cheese sauce...GOUDA. And can I just say they got some of the best fries in the game?! They're hella crispy when they're fresh, they reheat well, AND I've even eaten these fries cold and they're still fire. Other honorable mentions are their smash burgers - specifically the chile relleno burger goes crazyyy! It's definitely a novelty burger so I was interested yet nervous to try it and it exceeded my expectations. My brother tried it and he doesn't even like chile relleno, but he loved their chile relleno burger. Their BBQ burger is very solid too. Bring your appetite when you come here. Smokin Jays has the best Briskey I've ever had!! I would let the Brisket be the highlight of this review! So, let start with my first visit to the Hueneme Location, it was good but not impressed. I waited until the Wooley location open to revisit SJ. First time I Order the Pass the smoke Burger, basically a smashed burger with brisket and a fried egg... WOW it was truly delicious, not overwhelming at all. Second time I visit about a week ago, I decided to order the BBQ Plate, Brisket & Tri-Tip, comes with mac salad and beans, I really wanted to get mac & cheese instead of mac salad but they don't allow that, not even for an up charge. (The only thing I was upset about) So I ordered a side of Mac & Cheese, now let me tell you, that was the best mac & cheese I've had at a BBQ place, the smoked Gouda cheese really takes the grammy. The beans were good and it also comes with garlic toasted bread, its pretty good. Their BBQ sauce is really good, it's a little spicy, I love it. I went around lunch time and it wasn't too busy, its 2 of us my coworker and I, we both ordered the exact same thing, including the extra side of Mac & Cheese, we didn't order anything to drink, our bill was $83.00 for a lunch for 2.. and yes i think their prices are very high, but also their food quality and the craftsmanship they put into it, the only thing I thought it was too much was the fact that they could not substitute the mac salad with the Mac & Cheese, you're already paying $30+ for a plate, and on top you have to spend $6 dollars to get a small side of Mac & Cheese?, also considering the size, it's pretty small. We ended up throwing the mac salad away, so they could easily make a surcharge for Mac & Cheese and call it a day, may be only on the Big Plate meals; I know that would make me and many other people happy. So come ready to spend some money and enjoy the best BBQ in town. My Co-worker and I are on a mission to try everything on their menu, we'll see how that goes, when I think about our next visit all I think about is their Brisket, I don't know if I'd be able to try something else. Hi. Came in with my wife yesterday. I was super excited to try a new bbq place! I came in with a smile and was greeted by eye rolls and a sigh. And I get it; you're young lady and I'm old but you should be washing dishes if you can't smile and say "hi" or even a "welcome in guys." Then I turned around to see a sign on the door say no restroom. Fun. Pretty sure the health department would have something to say about that. Then the pricing. HOLY SHIIIITTTTT. $30 a plate with no drink?! ...$30 a plate I could have gone to a nice sit down restaurant.... So you would think this is gonna be big portions right?! Nope. I spent over $80 on two plates, +two canned sodas and a tip. Big portions? Nope! I got 4 tiny slices of brisket and 4 tiny slices of the DRYEST tri tip of my life. It was so overcooked that there was no meat fibers left, it was also FLAVORLESS. I like tender but this was cooked to oblivion. My wife got brisket and chicken and all she got was two tiny chicken breasts that were clearly from a frozen bag of processed breasts. And like my plate, 4 TINY slices of brisket. I should also say something about the sides. Your macaroni salad is flavorless and gross, your flair is black olives? Why? Your beans are watery refried pinto beans, that tastes like... beans. No onion? No trimmings, no fat? No flavor. This place is a rip off. VERY Expensive Small portions No restroom No draft sodas Rude/cold employees No bbq sauce selection?! No sauce on the tables? Just tiny ramekins of chili lime sauce that tastes like baby rays and Tajin mixed together Do not go here. This is NOT BBQ. For the price you could go to wood ranch and get a round of drinks or an appetizer. For the price you could have ordered one of everything at marshal's bodacious bbq. And those employees will earn a tip and you'll have a place to take a piss... and get a soda refill. Haha read more

Location: probably one of the worst spots you could possibly imagine. If they are that successful, they'd be in a better location, keep that in mind. Food: overpriced, over salted and low quality. If you want something with so much grease you could deep fry with it after your done eating, this place is for you. It looks good, but does it taste good? No, not really. If your go to is to just top food with more food, you're no chef or decent cook. The people that work there are ok. They don't really know what they are doing aside from slinging sub par food. Stumbled upon a new brisket place and we weren't even trying! After a long day of hunting for a new home we found an amazing brisket place in the Channel Island's Harbor. Smokin Jay's aroma wafted out of this modest looking food court and totally drew us in. And it was clear that it did for the other 20-30 people in there. Food order line was quick. They answered our questions fast and thoroughly. We ordered the brisket plate for $17. Comes with 6oz of brisket, baked beans, Mac salad and 2 slices of garlic bread! That is a steal! It also came out pretty fast considering how busy they were. And the taste? Oohhh the taste! So good! The brisket was smokey but not overly done and tender tender tender! Baked beans excellent. Mac salad was great okay. Garlic bread - perfection. Even the pickles were super yumm. We are definitely coming back! Coming on a Sunday was perfect. They usually post the "special menu of the day" on IG the day before or on the same day . I had previously seen the booty onion on IG . I asked when they were going to have them on the menu. They were pretty rude about the question also. They have tacos on the menu but said they only have it on certain days and then said "we only have what's on the menu!" Loved the BBQ here! I've had the burnt ends and a PBJ burger which was a special of the day. meat is juicy, looooove the garlic bread, and the link is quite delicious. So I ordered the "build your own plate" with brisket, pulled pork, macaroni salad and mac n cheese and I got a couple of hot links to round out the plate. So got home and started with the pork. It looked good but was dry. Not even the weird bbq sauce helped it. Next was the brisket. Brisket was really fatty and chewy. If I had been blindfolded, I would have thought I was eating beans (spices maybe?). So now for my favorite item mac n cheese. I have never had mac n cheese like this!!!!! It tasted like flour and the pasta was gummy. It wasn't even baked!!!! All for the price of $50 bucks!!!
