Ordered take out tonight. Got the chipotle lime chicken tacos. Figured since it was a BBQ restaurant they would have some pretty good chicken to make a taco. Turns out they use bag chicken to make the tacos. Little dry chicken cubes. It was really unfortunate. Fed it to my cat though, and I don't think she even enjoyed it. I was pretty excited to try Mo's since it's been here forever and has a good rep. My whole group was let down. The restaurant itself is really cool, nice atmosphere. The employees were super nice. We decided to sit outside on the patio, and I'm wishing we didn't. They had a tree that rained these tiny, microscopic flowers all over our food, making it very hard to enjoy. When the food was brought out, it was brought out one at a time. We had 7 people to our party, so they took 7 trips out to being everyone's food. I got the sweet potato fries. They were okay, I'm wishing I knew they seasoned them with salt and sugar! Making them way too sweet and grainy. I also got the 1/2 rack of sweet Carolina ribs, which I was excited for, because as soon as I picked up a rib the meat fell of the bone. I was only able to eat 2 out of the 7 or 8 ribs it came with because it was too salty! I didn't even take the rest home...what a waste, especially when the cost of our food just between me and my husband it was $45. Not worth it in my opinion. My husband said his burger and garlic fries were dry and stale-tasting. He left half his food behind. I almost considered trying the chicken tacos they offered on the menu, but I'm glad I didn't because my friend got them and they were enormous! Smokin' Moe's is by far the finest BBQ in California. I've lived in South Carolina when I was in the military and my buddies and I would go down to this BBQ hut in Myrtle Beach (this is going back to the late 1970's) and we would chow down on ribs and beans. When Moe's opened its doors in Chico I thought there was no way any California BBQ place could match that place in Myrtle Beach, so I never went there to try it out. One night my buddies here in Chico wanted to give Moe's a try and we are happy we did! This place is like walking into the deep south (where they made BBQ famous) and you really have the best experience in BBQ ribs! Everything there is delicious! So I have come here many times in the past. Always for lunch. It has been excellent. Tonight was dinner. First of all- they have sign outside and of the letters of BAR-B-QUE only the E is lit up. My dinner took a long time to come - probably because of the large number of to-go orders they were filling. Only 2 people to handle it all and customers were lining up. I ordered brisket tacos. They were giant flour tortillas filled with lettuce and a ton of chunky shredded cheese and somewhere in there was some brisket. Not enough meat. This is the second time in two months that I've gotten take-out (curbside pick-up) from Moe's. The service was great both times but the food has been meh both times. The ribs were over done and dry af, the ends so much so that they were inedible (couldn't actually chew the meat!) and the corn muffins were soooo dry we had to wash each bite down with water.The fries were delicious and this last time the brisket sandwich was really good. If I do get Moe's again, I will stick with the sandwiches. read more

This place gets a rare 5 point review. I love the three quarters of a rack concept. Perfect amount. You have to try the combo. All three sauces are excellent. My partner and I had visited family over Christmas break. We had spent a good few hours of time working on some school work. Then we walked around down town. We realized that we had forgotten to eat and were both famished. I saw this sign for smokin Mo's. She had been here a few times and said it was "pretty good BBQ" which I ended up feeling was accurate. We ended up getting what I now call, "the feast of meat". It was a lot of food for good price. The pork products were delicious. The chicken, sadly, was a bit dry. Their sauces were ok but most of them were either very sweet or not sweet. There was no middle ground...even in terms of the sauce that was supposed to be "middle ground". I'd go back when I'm craving meat. Wow. I almost died eating from this place. We actually just ordered the same thing 3 months ago prior to this incident. Never had a problem but I don't know what they did or if they changed their meat or sauce but I went into anaphylactic shock immediately after ingesting one of their ribs. I remember it tasted different. Almost like a real strong smoked meat taste. Needless to say, i will take the doctors advice and will never be ordering from there again. So please be careful. This place has ribs that are out of this world. I've never had a bad rib at Mo's. It's always blessedly tender and juicy, with the right amount spices (recommend trying the dry rub). For sauce, the Philthy Phil's BBQ sauce is so good and makes a great paring for ribs. It also is wonderful on brisket (the brisket is fantastic too)...basically my favorite sauce! Tangy and sweet, with the right bite of mustard. I'm also not traditionally a coleslaw kind of person, but Mo's had turned that around for me. If you get the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, it's killer. Decent beer selection, as well as your standard fair of sodas. Also, the staff has always been extremely kind and helpful. They really take good care of you. The owners are good people too! Supporting this local business is important, as we do not get a good local BBQ place like this around here that much. read more

Over all, ok. I liked the ribs but 3 of 5 of them were so over cooked they were dried out and had burnt ends. I was so bummed. Brisket was soft meaning it was cooked too long, add bbq sauce and it was ok. I personally think you should get real wine that is not from a BOX! It was not drinkable. Loved the potato salad and coleslaw. I think you could upgrade your corn bread muffin recipe to something much nicer looking and tasting rather than a round disk that was to resemble a muffin. It would really upgrade your meal. Lastly, just because you offer cinnamon butter with honey down not mean it is good. It tasted like a teaspoon of cinnamon...harsh. Tried this place out tonight the reviews looked and I've been wanting a tritip sandwich, I ordered garlic bread, tritip sandwich with garlic fries. They can't just put garlic on the side of fry's, you have to buy an order of garlic fry's but the guy that took my order gave a discount for the inconvenience that I appreciated. Unfortunately the fry's were soft no crunch at all. The garlic bread seemed like a piece of white bread with some butter and garlic powder thrown on the grill, frozen Texas toast is better... the sandwich was small for the price and the tritip had that bad microwaved meat taste that the bbq sauce couldn't even hide and the sauce tasted like a less spicy sweet baby rays. My girlfriend ordered a tritip sandwich and coleslaw, it was only 1 ounce of coleslaw... I'm giving them 2 stars because the staff was very fast and nice read more

It's ok. Certainly not the worst BBQ, but nothing to write home about. The brisket pretty dry for my taste, and the spare ribs were just a tad mushy. Overall flavor was good, not too much smoke, good rub, and the sauce was good enough. 3 of the 4 sauces that were out were good too, but 1 tasted like straight ketchup. Wasn't good at all. The sides were just ok too. Coleslaw was kinda bland, the beans were as expected, and the corn muffin had good flavor but was very dry. Ordered the bbq'ed chicken salad. As usual, The salad was great. One complaint, you don't spin the lettuce and it's wet so it dilutes the salad dressing. It happens every single time. So I am working in Chico this weekend and stumbled upon this place. They had a Fall special going 2 ribs and pulled pork with a side and a muffin $8.45. The ribs were absolutely delicious. Smoky well season and the sauce was just the right amount of sweet. The pulled pork was the perfect blend of smoky from being on the pit and sweet from the sauce. The beans OMG! Several reviewers mentioned how good the beans were and they nor I can do it justice. The corn muffin was delicious too. I will be back up here next weekend and plan to get a slab, a pound go the pulled pork, chicken and those delightful beans to take back k with me. read more

My wife and I ordered this for delivery and were quite disappointed. We ordered the shredded chicken sandwich with baked beans and the cornbread. The meat was very bland and the BBQ sauce was bland to the point where we didn't even notice it! The bread was soggy when we got our food so that part wasn't good either ): We looked at previous reviews and were hopeful but ended up being disappointed and getting another meal somewhere else as we couldn't stomach the food. The beans were watery and the cornbread tasted stale so it had a weird flavor. The butter was the best part of the meal, it had cinnamon in it! The one spice we could taste in our meal. I don't mean to bash businesses. It's just that our meal was not good at all and I actually feel sick now. When I had worked in the Sacramento and Chico area, I would often drop by here. They don't have a great selection on their sides, but they're ribs and chicken are fantastic! Why would I give it three stars? Well, since this is the only location that I know of....their prices are really steep for my pocket and the service isn't top notch. I do recommend their tasty garlic fries as it reminds me of Gordon Biersch's. They carry their own different style of BBQ sauce whether you like it honey, teriyaki, or whatever they have provided. This is fake BBQ for people who have never had the real thing. If you know nothing about real barbeque, then you will believe this is a top notch joint. We went here based on Yelper's reviews and were disappointed. You can't call this barbeque because the meat served clearly isn't smoked. The restaurant didn't smell of smoke, the meat didn't taste smoked. The sauce was tomato based, not vinegar. Someone's review mentioned a variety of sauces to choose from, we were offered no choice. My BF pronounced this place "horrible". Two of our party didn't even finish their food. I ate the pulled pork with coleslaw sandwich because I was hungry, but it was merely "OK" and nothing to really rave about. The coleslaw was decent, not too sweet, not too creamy, and a rough chop, not the finely minced style. They've won a lot of awards (see the pig shaped plaques on the walls) and the decor is nice, but this is not a good place to have real, authentic 'que. read more

Had a side of sweet potato fries which were excellent. Hot, salty and tasty. Love the slaw. Ordered a couple of ribs on the side. Was not impressed. I could tell they were marinated, but the deep smokey flavor was not there. The meat did not fall off the bone. Seems crazy that I can make better ribs then just about any BBQ joint. Smokin' Mo's BBQ was wonderful. My father and I shared the Memphis ribs and the South Carolina ribs. Both were honestly among the best ribs I have had. Moist, smoky and the perfect amount of spices and sauces. We tested several of their BBQ sauces, all of which were excellent. My only complaint would be the corn muffin. It was very dry.
