Stopped here before a hockey game. It's very much, seat yourself, do it all yourself vibes. You order via QR Code. You get your own water/soda. If you order drinks/food they do bring it over. I think the restaurant itself is cute, loved the decor and different seating options like the swing chairs and such. We ordered a chicken sandwich w/ tots, pickle fries & drinks. The food was a bit underwhelming. Like frozen chicken patties, which is fine since the prices aren't crazy. The drinks were fine. Just not sure i'd pick to go here again. read more

Ambiance and Experience: I was at a conference in the River Center and was looking for a close lunch option. Look on the app, this place looked like it would be a fast and decent place to grab a sandwich. I like the dive bar/tiki bar vibe they gave off, mixing neon and kitschy decor together. Lots of seating options, including outdoor which was nice because it was a beautiful October afternoon. Service was fast and friendly. The lady at the bar was the only employee visible but she did a stellar job of making sure all the tables were taken care of. Food: I ordered the smashburger with tots. Very good burger, the patties were well seasoned and the huther had a good mix of cheese and meat. Fried onions and a special sauce tied it all together. The burger reminded me of something you would find at a good, old fashioned diner. You also got a generous portion of hot and crispy tots. I wasn't able to finish them all. For only 12 bucks it was a great deal for downtown. Verdict: 5 stars. Fast and casual service, great comfort food, and a chill vibe make this place a great lunch stop when you are close to Grand Casino Arena. read more

I was staying at the attached Marriott and ordered some onion rings to go with my salad I picked up from another restaurant. Onion rings were perfect. They came with a horseradish type sauce, I am glad I asked for ranch. Didn't love the sauce but hit the craving with the rings and ranch. Would definitely try other items next stay. Service was great, kind of slow due to the fair the same week, but I didn't mind less folks/noise. lol read more

Was wanting to give this place a try si ce they opened. Have to say, I was a bit medium (not bad, not great) on our experience. First off, parking stinks. There isn't a lot (or at least, not one we could find) and no real closeby street parking. Might be fine if you're already attending an event at Xcel or The Ordway and parking for those things, but if just coming down for an evening out, not ideal The space is sort of fun, some tables with patio swing seating, lots of decor. After reading you can submit a recipe that they may put on the menu, I figured this would be a good place to get some homemade-style comfort food. Unfortunately, I didnt see anything like this on the menu during our visit. Lots of fried goodies and some different burgers. Service was fast, although you use a QR code and order online. The night we visited, only the bartender was on duty, so they had to run around the whole restaurant. May try to give it another whirl when down for an event. read more

Was at Omnifest at the Science Museum and saw this place nearby, in walking distance and checked it out. We were greeted by a staff member at the door. He asked if we have been here yet and we had not. He kindly explained the process of how they do things. We needed to show our ids (in case we do order alcoholic drinks) and then get stamped. We then would sit down at a table and scan the QR code on our phone to bring up the menu and order right there from our phone app. You can order as a whole table or individually. Drinks and food was brought out quickly and service was friendly. I had the Smash burger which was good. I'm not such a tator tot person, but that was tasty. I was craving onion rings which was tasty too. My friend ordered the pickle fries and that was surprisingly good too. read more

We ordered takeout which likely plays a part in our experience with the food. The pickle fries weren't crisp at all, flavor was okay. Also had the dry rub and buffalo wings, they were fine. The bartender ignored us to talk who seemed might be off duty co-worker; there were 2 of us and 3 total at the bar (like us plus coworker) . She didn't check in or make eye contact. I was shocked. The reason we were there at a 1pm on a weekday was because I was told that people who work at my agency are considered heroes there and get 2:1 drinks by a man I had met earlier in the week; I assume he is management or something. When I asked, the bartender was so rude and said, "we have 2:1 from 3-5", which I understood, then questioned the man etc, which I didn't know but was so damn rude about it. No going back. read more

WELL HELLO... what a cutey place here in the St Paul nooks and crannies of the food scene scatter over by the Xcel. Attached to a hotel that offers valet.. take my car...but bring it back lol! Super awesome to start our dinner date for the evening! We hit this up since it was posted by an awesome foodie person on instagram. When you walk in the place is all set up with cute decor and cool seating. You order from a QR code with your table number... if there is more than one of you order as a group because the app is kinda dumb and you cant change that after you start... so we had to head to the bar to get ordered. We ordered an appetizer Fried pickles.. cause why not... and then decided on doing a Smorgies Smash and a Big Dilly Chicken Sandwich one with fries and one with onion rings. Split in half and half so we could try each others out and neither disappointed! Was a bummer though cause allllll came out at one time and with having a tiny tummy was a bummer.. i like a staggering of food coming out! The gentleman that was clearing tables was super attentive as we finished stuff and asked questions! Again stupid app as we wanted to order dessert it wasnt offered in the app so up to the bar we headed again .. lucky for us the gentleman cleaning around us grabbed it while i was hanging out waiting. We will not be back. Two friends and I started doing a "3rd Thursday" burger night based on a spread in the Pioneer Press of burger places throughout the metro area. Smorgies was our fifth adventure. The burger - a smashburger - was OK. It was a quiet night - we had made sure before we went. Each of us has had multiple experiences ordering via a QR code at restaurants, but at Smorgie's the process was particularly unfriendly. Really bad . Made us wish we had stayed home and ordered carry out. I also wonder why so many restaurants love the concrete floors that make sounds bounce everywhere and conversation difficult. I've been told this creates a vibe that they all covet. I think that among the reasons people go out to eat number one is food, number two is camaraderie, and somewhere around number 1000 is not being able to hear each other talk. There was one woman who was in charge of everything and I have no complaints about her, but I definitely have big complaints about how this place is managed. Of our five burger adventures Smorgie's is number 10. read more

In town for a MAJOR concert at the Xcel center. Wife and I tried the place. When we walked in, there wasn't a host to guide us. After a couple of weird minutes, we sat our selves used the QR code to order. I get it, but it's super inconvenient to search for your food via list of options. We orders the Dilly chicken sandwiches, and an appetizer of onion rings, a cocktail and a beer. First off...everything came at the same time, drinks, appetizer, and main dish. Drinks are served in plastic cups. The cocktail was TINY, like maybe 6oz. The onion rings were cold, not cool...COLD. The chicken sandwich were not good at all. The chicken was clearly cheap frozen patties, and had a terrible tough texture. Service - non existent. No one checked on us, when our food was dropped off, no reply to our thanks, nothing. Super awkward. Paying as soon as you order is weird and feels presumptuous at best. The food quality is clearly lacking. This felt like a self checkout line in a sit down establishment. Enjoyed this laid back experience, where we were able to seat ourselves, order from our table, and not have to overly interact with the waitstaff. Service was okay, I didn't expect this "restaurants" service to be on device only. We were immediately welcomed by the bartender guiding us what to do, which I appreciated! You seat yourself anywhere and order through your phone. I was a bit shocked to see that there was only one burger to choose from the menu. Our pickles fries tasted bland and barely had seasoning, along with our onion rings. Nothing special. Now about the burger, it had way too much of the sauce.. like a ridiculous amount. The meat was juicy and the burger was good but not great. The sauce really ruined the burger since it was drenched in it. Thought we would try Smorgie's before the Frost Game last night. Both the food and the service were very poor. Menu is sparse and reminds me a school cafeteria. My first time going here was not bad the inside felt very gogo like with many tables and a comfy lounge seating areas. They have a nice bar with great options as well as a nice outdoor seating area with a walk-up bar. I stopped in with a friend for drinks and sat and enjoyed a nice cold bottle of cava. On staff this day bartending and doing everything was Paul. For the lack of support and staff, Paul did an amazing job. Atmosphere is great! We had the French onion dip--it was great-- not too salty which is an issue we have found at other places. Smash burger was delicious!!! And tator tots were nice and crispy! My husband had the tator tot hotdish and said it lacked flavor but did enjoy everything else. Would come here again for sure!! read more

My sister and I tried our Smorgie's for the first time on a whim and we were impressed! Service was fast and friendly. The bartender only had about 1/4 of the bar full but he made sure we didn't have to wait on anything. We got two different tap options and both were yummy - I was happy to see they had summer shandy out of season, one of my favorite Leine's! Drinks were about $7 a piece so a little pricey for a tap but it makes sense given this place's great location next to the XCEL. We came during lunch hour which we expected to be slow but the bartender told us how exciting it gets when there's games or concerts going on. We had their smashburger with tots and ranch. The burger was actually really good, the smash burger had good flavor, the sauce was yummy, the cheese was melty, and the bun kept it all together well. The tots were very average but there was a good amount of them. We got a side of ranch which was disappointing, very watery, didn't even hold onto the tots, just slid right off.
