In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes and things to do throughout Jersey City (specifically the Heights) and by extension nearby Hoboken, I crept into Louise And Jerry's Tavern for a quick pint or two after I dropped some dough at nearby Tunes Hoboken and before I met up with my friend for dinner. Located inside an 1880s former hotel building, it all started back in 1958 when Louise and Jerry Grieco (the tavern's namesake) rented the downstairs space when it was a Dutch sailor's bar called the Old Neerlandia. In 1959, they purchased it from the Schaeffer's family. At that point, the family business began first with Jerry as the lone bartender until health issues took that away from him. So, Louise stepped in until sadly she suffered a stroke in 1994. Louise's sister, Mary Romano, took over, and to this day, it's been the Romano family who has kept the legacy alive. Would I raise a pint or two to cheers Louise and Jerry for their tavern!? PURCHASE(S) Guinness Draught Irish Dry Stout Beer 4.2% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Dark brown chocolate color, robust coffee roasty aroma, heavy body, balanced chocolate coffee flavor, mouthcoating finish, and full coffee roasty aftertaste. One of my favorite beers! Yuengling Brewery Traditional Amber Red Lager Beer 4.5% ABV 16floz Draft ($7.00): Copper red color, malty sweet aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean finish, and smooth malty sweet aftertaste. A favorite I always had trouble pronouncing! SERVICE I was casually greeted by two young women behind the bar as I approached, queried about their happy hour specials (MO-FR 1:00pm-7:00pm $1.00 off any draft), ordered my first pint, and found an empty corner in the back. I returned to the bar with my empty glass in hand, ordered my next pint, and simply closed my tab as the post-work crowd started to billow in. All was simple and straightforward which was fine with me - cheers! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): This was a moot point since it was minutes away from Tunes Hoboken (or, slightly flat-to-downhill leisurely walk 30-minute distance from my friend's place). No parking lots in sight, there seemed to be plenty of spots along the main drag of Washington St. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE You carefully stepped down recessed stairs into a quaint one-floor layout where your immediate focus was on the large mahogany bar with plenty of stools, then to the exposed brick walls where a few items hung, the reflective tin ceiling, heavily-dated floor tiles, and a pool table and some tall tables in the back, along with the jukebox nd dart board. A decent amount of natural lighting filtered through the front and back glass windows while large electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were several TVs while a jukebox played music in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Louise And Jerry's Tavern was my kind of place with a "refined dive bar" feel (meant in a loving way), and every neighborhood would be so lucky to have such a watering hole to destress, chat with strangers, and grab a pint after work. The community I sensed as I observed from my back corner stool while patrons started coming in was beautiful as the bartenders knew them and people knew each other. The beer list was kept to a minimum, the liquor choices were varied enough to at least make the standards, outside food was allowed since there wasn't an onsite kitchen, and they were an openly pet-friendly bar, which was awesome! Plus, I always preferred to support small mom & pop businesses. Ok for the bad: 1) The Mac and cheese one of my favorite items was take off the holiday menu, I was served the kids version as an alternative but ur was VERY bland and al dente. 2) our first batch of truffle fries was not fresh compared to the second batch we received ( there was a clear color discoloration) 3) there was an unpleasant smell as soon as we walked in - it reminded me off smelly socks , so I couldn't wait to leave to breath fresh air 4) the lollipop chicken, another one of my favorite menu items was underwhelming this time. I was looking forward to this visit for days but it was as I said very disappointing. I don't think I will be back this year. This was my 3rd visit to Franklin social and my least favorite visit.

Again, this meant that the staff was constantly opening and closing the door between the two rooms, letting in a draft. Since I was not the hugest fan of their food menu, we decided to stick to just drinks on this go around. I opted for the Rudolph's Replacement, since I had loved the blend of vodka, coffee liqueur, white creme de cacao, orange curacao, chai, almond milk, and aromatic bitters during my last visit. Though I was tempted to order a second of the exact same drink, I decided to branch out and try something new with the Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus. The sweet and crisp cocktail included brandy, Italian sweet vermouth, dark creme de cacao, blackberry liqueur, tart cherry, chocolate, lemon, chocolate bitters, and two brandied cherries as a garnish. I absolutely adored it and even ordered a second one. However, it clearly did not feel the same way about me, because the overload of sweetness gave me a massive headache that lasted until the next day. In addition to my drinks, I had sips of the Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r! and the Coconut Hot Chocolate. The fowl-mouthed beverage was a sweet and nutty blend of Barbados rum, rhum agricole, Trinidad overproof rum, ube & coconut orgeat, and acid-adjusted pineapple. The creamy hot chocolate really focused on the infusion of various nuts, as it included amaretto and hazelnut, as well as the similar notes from the coconut. Both cocktails were excellent! Miracle on Mercer always provides a festive atmosphere worthy of a visit. However, when making a reservation, you might want to ask for one of the rare tables away from one of the many doors in the small space.

I told them this was in violation of the ADA, and they said "that doesn't matter". I then was unable to sit down in time and experienced a panic attack outside. The downstairs area was closed, so I headed upstairs to an open space holding a handful of simulators, as well as a bar area with high-top tables. The place had my favorite beer, Kane Head High, on tap, so that was already a plus in my book. I grabbed a pint and headed to a simulator to swing a few rounds using their in-house golf clubs of various sizes. The simulator offered several different types of game formats and themes. My one complaint about the play area was that the tee was very flimsy and had a small base, so it kept popping through the hole in the Astroturf and would need to be replaced. Our server was excellent and continued to check on our needs throughout the evening, which also included some of their excellent food. The Boneless Wings were available with a bunch of sauces, but we had opted for the Buffalo variety, which were spicy, crispy, and delicious. The Detroit-style, deep-dish Cheese Pizza had an excellent tomato sauce that was heavily seasoned with basil. The pizza had been cooked in a small rectangular pan, making sure that each slice had at least one crispy edge. The slices reminded me a bit of cafeteria pizza that had been jazzed up with tons of flavor. Lastly, the thin, crispy, and well-salted Fries were great and came with rosemary aioli and honey dijon mustard dipping sauces. This is a serious concern I am writing here regarding a staff member at Pier13Hoboken earlier…read moretoday, August 30, 2026, around 2:00 PM. My group consisted of four adults and one child. We arrived at the pier around 1:00 PM and finished eating by 2:00 PM. When we went to collect bags for our food, a staff member at the wristband booth stopped my friend because he did not have a wristband. My friend was unaware of the wristband requirement, as he had been sitting with us the entire time. Previously, another staff member had passed by our table to clear empty bowls and did not mention or inquire about the missing wristband. When my friend told the staff member at the booth that he had been sitting with us the situation escalated. The staff member became belligerent, raised his voice, and clearly became upset with my friend's explanation. The staff member explained that he hadn't seen my friend's wrist because I was blocking the view, which was why no previous warning had been given. He then loudly stated that everyone at the pier is aware that you must have a wristband. Note: My friend did hand over his ID with no issues and got his wrist band from the staff member. At that moment, I felt the staff member was becoming physically aggressive. To avoid confrontation, I advised my friend to walk away. As we did, the staff member shouted, "Yeah, you better walk away." This behavior was unprofessional, intimidating, and made us feel unsafe. We came to Pier13 expecting a welcoming environment, but instead experienced aggression from your staff. I ask that you investigate this incident and take appropriate measures to prevent such conduct in the future. I strongly believe this staff member at the booth is a danger to the people at the pier, especially elderly and children.
