While I would not call this "authentic" Mexican food, it is really good. Perfect for vegetarians, as their beans and rice are vegetarian. Lots of Mexican restaurants use broth and/or lard. Love the potato tacos too!!! Most fast food Mexican style joints are just loaded with grease and lard - this spot does it right. Tasty, but not overly greasy. They have lots of different salsas and a salsa bar so you can try them all. They serve beer and wine (in a can), and it's super casual. Used to love this place until they started charging nearly $50 for 2 meals. On top of that, after receiving our food (hard tacos fell apart entirely), we kindly asked for a side of sour cream..... They made me charge my card again for over $2 for a side of sour cream which is included in the vast majority of restaurants. The employees were all upbeat and happy the vibes were good. The food was amazing like sing to the heavens good. Had the crispy fish taco combo. I was craving that sauce so bad so i thought I'm gonna go today 6/25/22. Totally different experience. It was pretty dead and not that many employees working. It wasn't super welcoming, but whatever as long as the food is good. It was not at all the same. The rice tasted like bandaids and the beans had zero salt. Overall the food wasn't the same. I'm not sure if it was a different cook in the kitchen, but I'd look into that. I don't know when the next time I'll go back is it was kinda a turn off. I wanted it to be my go to. read more

Looked like they were doing a nice job taking precautions for safety for Covid which put me at ease. I have that place probably a hundred times and never even knew it was there. It is located near the corner of a large and very busy shopping plaza. I was able to beat the rush and found great parking very easily. I received my order very quickly and even as they got busier with the lunch rush, the orders were still flying out. A good sign​ of a well run establishment. The nachos were a little pricey but they didn't scimp on the cheese and it tasted very good and at the perfect temperature. They are easily big enough to share for three people. I ordered a battered fish taco on a soft flour tortilla. It came with a mountain of cheese which was unexpected but pretty awesome. They have a large and we'll stocked salsa bar with all different spice levels and all of their housemade sauce which I put on top of the fish taco. I will definitely be back here and mic it up, but the fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had anywhere. I hope they don't change a thing. read more

A nice alternative to the usual salad or sandwich lunch. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, Nachos, salads and more. They even have potato tacos. The fish tacos are either grilled or battered. Fried or soft shell. The beans taste home made and the rice has good flavor. The salsa bar is fantastic. Several different salsas from mild to hot. I like to mix them up and keep it interesting. Service is pretty good here. We were a party of 7 and our food was ready quickly. Nice outside patio to sit and enjoy your lunch on a beautiful day. They also have some healthier alternatives on the menu. Quinoa protein bowl and a quinoa salad. The price is right and the food is good. I will have to remember to come here more often. Obviously I had to do thorough research and it was a must that i checkout both the camarillo and thousand oaks locations :) Both locations were fantastic! The staff are fast and efficient and super friendly. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. There is a wide menu selection and a deliciously stocked salsa bar! You have to try the shack sauce! There is both indoor and outdoor seating and the staff keep it nice and clean. This is definitely one of my top spots for tacos and Mexican food! The employees are great; however, after years of patronizing and having a good experience this the first time I came across an authoritarian over-zealous manager by the name of Leann. I typically call ahead and order four to a half dozen fish tacos to go. When I arrive I pay and ask for a couple of plastic water cup to fill the condiments at the open bar rather then using the small finger cups. As I was leaving Leann called me out in front of all telling me that I cannot use the water cup for condiments. I told her that I've been doing this for year. I fact a few days ago I asked the then manager for cups to accompany my order and he replied "how many would you like". Leann told me that this is Snapper Jack's rules and that I can only use the small cups at the bar. This is ridiculous when you have several tacos. Leann should spend more time doing her job and seeing that my 'to-go' order had eating utensils and napkins. This is the first time without them. Went tonight to meet a friend who eats there a lot. I ordered a fish taco and was quite disappointed! My taco had a little mushy fish in it that had absolutely no flavor! My friend went and complained that we didn't get much fish in our tacos so they put extra in a little cup which was nice and accommodating but it was mushy and flavorless. Whenever I am in the area this is usually the place I like to grab a bite to eat. The one thing I love about this place, which I think separates this place from other taco shacks is the freshly made taco shells. I usually order one shrimp and one chicken taco, which comes with tones of house made tortilla chips. This place is well priced and the portions are large. Snapper Jack's Taco Shack was my favorite place to eat in Thousand Oaks. In like 3 months, I have come here for lunch about 6-8 times. That a lot for me lol. It is located about 5 minutes from my grad school and the shack is exactly what I need for a lunch break. Food: so I am in love with two menu items and I am always switching between them. I either go with that Jack Taco combo with fried fish on crunchy tacos or their seafood burrito which is loaded with crab. Both meals are huge, especially the taco combo. The fish is cooked perfectly here and for under $10, this spot is a steal. They have a huge assortment of sauces and salsas to load your meal with as well. Overall: It is hard to find bomb lunch spots in the TO area that isn't a sit-down restaurant. This is my go-to place for lunch. It does not matter what I am craving that day when I think of their crunchy taco, I must go and get it. In fact, just writing this review makes me want it. Not bad! Not great, but not bad! I ordered a fish burrito and it came with chips. It really reminds me of Rubios, so it's like "Mexican Inspired" cuisine lol. The burrito was smaller than Rubios, though just as expensive. There is plenty of parking, it's located within an outdoor strip mall, and the inside is nice and clean. The salsa bar is good, and the staff are friendly enough (mostly young people still learning). I would recommend it. I am personally not a fan of this place. I only came here since it was close to the Ralph's and I was too lazy to cook. I got the steak burrito and they gave free chips. The food was good during the first few bites. In the middle I was tolerating it. And at the end I was sick of it that I threw some portion of it away. I am also not a big fan of lettuce in a burrito because it just gets all soggy and gross. The chips also don't have salt so it was just so bland. Every time I'm in this neck of the woods I gotta stop in for some crispy chicken tacos! Honestly I've had their burritos and they don't compare to the tacos! I'm pretty sure they used to be bigger, but you can tell the chicken is fresh and the taco shells are home made. Plus, the shack sauce is the icing on top of the heavenly crunchy goodness of a taco. They have tasty salsas and always give a generous portion of chips. I think the burrito I got was about $12 and tacos are $5 each. There's is a little patio with some tables outside. But for an over bearing manager who clearly never had a course on serving the customer's needs, I would have given Snapper Jacks 4 stars. So here's the story. I enjoy allot of salsa so I use a water cup to put my salsa in, instead of those ridiculously small containers they provide. I mix my salsas and in the middle of my pouring salsa into the cup, the manager demands that I throw it all back into the salsa bowls and only use those cups for water. I tell it isn't happening. And then she gets even more insistent. I tell nope. Now she's getting irritated with me. I walk away with a cup of salsa and use it all. That is plain stupid management! Who trained this lady! This is how Rod does business, so I assume his daughter doesn't do business like this either! It was Sunday October 21.
