I even agree on the views on the snappy sticks AKA mozzarella sticks. They certainly are unusual. You got three sticks with an order but they're huge. At first when I opened it up I thought he gave me something like egg rolls. They do not have the usual reading on them. They appear to be wrapped in something like phyllo dough. Some kind of seasoning on the wraps. Not sure if it's just salt or something else. All in all I really like them. I would have liked to have them a little bit hotter so that the cheese would have been a little mealtier. I do think they were well worth the price. So this used to be a decent quick bite place in the area. Menu is pretty large for a place that's the size of a typical bathroom. On my last visit, I noticed that the prices have gone up and now even a hot dog with a handful of fries is $4. I got a hot dog and it was ok; but barely any fries; and the ones that I could count were small lukewarm chards. Not to mention left over few small chunks of chicken tenders. Passed by a number of times before finally stopping in and was pleasantly surprised at how decent it is. You walk in, there is a menu on the wall to the left and the tiny counter to order food and that is about it. So decor is nothing to write home about. But the Snappy Stix are mozzarella sticks like you have never had them before. Huge, melty, and served with a side of marinara sauce, these things could potentially be a meal on there own. The tamales were not great, tiny and they fell apart really easily, I would skip those. Hot dogs, also great. And they serve Green River! Always a plus. I recently went in here and it was actually my first time. There are a variety of choices on their menu and all are cheap and affordable. The staff are also nice and friendly. I decided to have their Chicago dog that comes with fries and their snappy stix which is mozzarela stix. The service was fast. The chicago dog was wrapped in the same paper with the fries, it tastes fine however the fries are not crispy. I love their snappy stix. We come into Chicago every two years for work and always look forward to going to snappy dog. We flew in from phoenix yesterday and headed straight there. The open sign was on , and according to their hours posted they were open but the door was locked. After waiting for 20 minutes we decided to leave. Went back today and they were open .... the guy working there was not welcoming in anyway. I wish this was the worst of it. We ordered our food and he only had enough beef for one Italian beef sandwich. Okay , that's not so bad , places run out of stuff I get it. He puts the Italian beef in the cooker thing they use and then just sits down and starts watching a video on his phone. Instead of starting the French fries, giving us our drinks , or starting the snappy stix he decided to sit down and watch a video. We try to start up a conversation with him and he is not having it. The guy definitely does not want to talk at all. Which is ALSO fine but this customer service was just so bad. This has never been the case at snappy dog. Flash forward 15 minutes later and the food is all Done. He then goes to pour our drinks and the soda machine wasn't working so he has to fix that. Again....things happen. So we eat our food. The Italian beef was cold, the snappy stix were not fresh and also cold. We finish our food and then hands us our drinks with two ice cubes in them. As we were leaving he was very rude to a little girl ordering a hot dog. The entire experience was a disaster. I am only posting this in hopes the owner sees this and hopefully hires better staff. Wow, what a great hidden gem. This place is so small it has a half numbered address. I took a walk here for lunch and enjoyed everything I had. I had the Snappy Dog and Fries with a side of the Mozzarella Sticks. The Snappy Dog was great. The Snappy Sauce on the dog was really good. It had just enough heat, and tasted great. The rest of the toppings were fresh. The fries were good, but I wish you get the dog without the fries as I really enjoyed the mozzarella sticks. The Home-Made Mozzarella Sticks: WOW! These were some of the best mozzarella sticks I have ever had. I would return here just for those alone. As stated above, it's too bad these were part of a deal. A Snappy Dog and Mozzarella sticks would be the perfect meal deal, please! It is really small inside, There is about 5 feet of stand up table space along the window, but it was really clean inside. Its a cool little place in the center of the towns downtown. Would recommend just ordering on the go since there is not much room inside. Since almost everyone on here raved about the mozzarella sticks I wanted yo try them. They were delicious! Its mozzarella inside a egg roll shell kinda thing. Who ever came up with that idea was a genius. Also had a chicago hot dog which tasted pretty good as well. I took mine with tomato, which was pretty big, pickle spear, mustard, green relish, onions. The fries came with the hot dog which were put on top of the hot dog inside the wrapping. The fries were not fresh cut but tasted ok. This was once a great hot dog stand. But it has really gone to the dogs. The service is slow (like turtles stuck in peanut butter slow). The hours are inaccurate (walked up at 3:00 in the afternoon to get a hotdog and the guy running the place was locking up, asked "Are you closed?" He said "For now I am." And forget that your order is correct when they give it to you. (Asked for a hot dog with no pickles, no peppers when my son opened the wrapper the first thing peering out from the bun was a pickle spear, which the 10 year old promptly proclaimed "Yuck!" and did not want to eat it). The consolation should have been the fries but unfortunately they were cold (we heard him throw them into the fryer but did he just mix old fries up with the fresh ones?). So goodbye Snappy Dog. The girl behind the counter was rude from the start and seemed more concerned about her pet in the pet carrier next to the counter than taking my order. I asked her a few questions, and she seemed annoyed that a customer would actually have a question. Even when I received my order, I had to ask her to fill the drinks as the cups she handed me were only half full.
