Then as I was leaving, I saw I don't know if he was a server or manager, but he dropped a piece of cheese off someone's slice of pizza , picked it back up and put it on, and served it to them. My boyfriend and I came in for dinner and requested to change our sauce on one of our pizza from Marinara to Alfredo..the kitchen had no problem customizing our pizza because they weren't too busy, which was way cool!! The Snuggery is what it is, a bar on the Fox River. With that in mind, I think it deserves a better review than what others have given it. I went here for lunch with my mom and sister and had a great time sitting out on the water and partaking in some mid-day cocktails. When the weather is nice, I really think this is one of the best outdoor spots in the area. I enjoyed a couple of Corona-Ritas that were fantabulous and perfect for the occasion. The margarita didn't have that "pre-made, straight from a bottle" taste. As the Corona seeped into the margarita, it gave it carbonation and made it that much better. Service was good. Our waitress was conversational with us and never neglected us even though it was pretty busy outside. We ordered the Firecracker Shrimp as an appetizer. The shrimp was good but not enough of it. The dish was disproportionate when it came to the shimp to salad ratio. Also, I didn't taste much of the citrus vinaigrette on the lettuce. For the main portion of the meal, my sister and I got the classic burger but in a wrap instead of on a bun. It was really delicious. The wrap helped take down the calorie count but also put more focus on the quality meat of the burger. They were cooked to our liking and had a special sauce on the inside that reminded me of a Big Mac sauce. I would order it again. My mom had the Cobb Salad which she enjoyed very much. Not overly dressed and the ingredients were fresh. Snuggery is a great place to enjoy some drinks, nibble on some food and laugh with great company on a warm, sunny, summer day. I feel that its only fair to give a little wiggle room here since we visited on the date of the regular season opener for both the Bears and the Packers and the place was stuffed with football fans of both teams. Having said that- I am not sure why there was such a distinct lack of servers, either someone failed to look at the calendar or there were staff who failed to show up when scheduled. Either way it was a FAIL and a significant one for sure. We had some very basic problems right off of the bat- we were not brought napkins, silverware or condiments with or before our meals. We had no luck trying to flag a server down so we ended up getting these things for ourselves from unoccupied tables. Our food was well plated and had visual appeal but was definitely on the bland side even after adding seasoning, etc. Portion sizes were generous, but to be honest, I didn't feel much like eating the food due to its severe lack of taste. We specifically went out to enjoy a football game with other fans but the lack of service (and lets face it- the Bears getting spanked) had us attempting to get our check (it took an uncalled for length of time) and leaving at half time. I'm very hesitant to be critical since they seemed to be so severely understaffed. The advice I would give would be not to go to this "sports bar" when it's a big game day. read more

Came in on Sunday for my birthday dinner and everything was AMAZING. Jackie was our server and she was just a doll. I also have to thank you guys for being very Service Animal friendly. I called and asked for a table a few days ahead up against a wall or window because I have a Service Dog and unlike the place I originally wanted to go, the manager I spoke with was happy to accommodate and gave me no troubles at all. Let's start from the top, I've been here once the other day for a couple beers and an appetizer around 2 p.m. It was my first time there and walking up I wasn't exactly sure where to go because I saw no hostess outside so I proceeded to walk in before a girl that came running from the front stopped me who turned out to he the hostess directed us to a table. It was a perfect day so we got to sit right by the water which wad nice. I searched Yelp for a place to eat in Mchenry and this popped up so I gave it a go. Pretty simple, my friend and I both ordered a beer that took too long to get to the table because by the time it got there it wasn't as cold as it should be. The food I got was perfect however. I ordered the sliders (2) and they came with fries which turned out to be the perfect size meal. While the food was good, the staff needs some help. Our waitress was friendly but she looked like she was helping just about every table outside. I would come back because I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere but I would hope the staff is up to par. read more

Four of us just went there yesterday, figured nice evening and we can sit by the river and have nice dinners with a few drinks and relax. The place was packed, the beer was good but the the dinner, let me tell you, they have trimmed down the Menu to literally just a few crappy items, nothing to look forward to. All fried stuff with heavy breading and some heavily processed sauces. There was only one salad item on the menu, not so good at all. It is a pity that this place has a prime spot by the water but the owners don't care to offer good healthy options. Don't go there. There are much better places in town!! read more

A year ago, this would have been a 5-star review. This restaurant has gone way down hill. They recently had a menu change and took way too many great items off the menu without replacing them with equivalent or better items. Also, in December 2016, I called to inquire about having our rehearsal dinner there while wedding planning. The manager at the time, whose name I believe was Kerri, told me that "she isn't scheduling for the next year and doesn't know any idea what prices will be." The rehearsal dinner was less than 10 weeks away. I finally said forget it and took my business somewhere that was willing to discuss pricing with me, regardless of time of year. read more

Anywhere in mchenry you will get a 5$ shot of almost anything at regular price. Which actually takes away the "Special" part. Sexism is rampant to which no server or bartender was male ever. Been there 5-6 times and they definitely hire servers or bartenders based on gender/attractiveness. Not complaining but ladies you don't want your boyfriend frequenting this establishment. Not impressed. I've been here a few times, mainly for the bar scene, and it's a typical McHenry drunk fest. The bartenders are half dressed, they try to pull off the whole "club" look with laser lights and a DJ, the drinks are pricey, and I've even seen some people dancing on tables. I've had the food here before, but it wasn't anything special for me to remember. The servers all look like they're freshly 16 and it kind of creeps me out. I literally hate this place. It is a waste of a great location on the river location. Honestly the atmosphere is good, location is great, and the food is ok for bar food. The service however is horrible. Its almost like the waitresses are trained to give terrible service. Or maybe they just hire them that way. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. my family and I had a birthday celebration this past weekend there on Sunday. By Tuesday morning we were all throwing up from food poisoning. We contacted the snug, they didn't do anything about it. We contacted the health department,turns out we weren't the only people who filed a claim. Another party of 7 got extremely sick also. I don't understand all the comments about poor service and waitresses being crabby. I just had an awesome waitress serve me by the name of Mallory. Extremely poliet, attentive and on the ball. Always coming back to see if I needed anything and asking how my food was.......which leads me to why only 3 stars. The Mahi Mahi (I ordered the dinner) was sooooo dry it made me cough. I have been a Snuggery fan since the early eighties. That said when the Snuggery was relaunched in McHenry I was excited, but after eating there I was not impressed. They had brought back some old menu item's like the beefeater but it just wasn't as good as the original. Fast forward to today, new menu, great new sandwiches! My long Iceland ice tea tasted like sweet and sour mix and the bartender was picking her nose behind the bar It felt really disgusting to be watching that and having my drink. I thought I was at Hooters! Actually I am insulting hooter girls by making that statement. The wait staff here is awful. I would just limit my comments to my waitress who seem to be brain dead. But other waitresses acted just as dense. Their clothing was too tight and too small, no uniforms. Bellies overlapping. If you don't have a completely flat stomach you should wear enough clothing to cover it. I like tasteful tattoos and piercing. But when you where your clothes in a professional environment (yes, working as a waitress is a professional environment) you need to be a little more tasteful. Showing tattoos and lifting your clothing for patrons to show off hidden piercings and tattoos is unprofessional. I had to leave my seat to get items that we're missing when my food arrived. I asked another waitress to help me because my waitress kept disappearing. Her other tables were looking for her to. Finally she came without what I asked for and told me someone else was going to get it. That person walked past without the items and then she brought it to my table..no communication within staff. I am only giving this place 1 star because it is not the cooks fault that the waitress staff is soo horrible. Our burgers were awesome! Best I had in a long time.. Management, give the cooks a raise and fire all the waitstaff, start over and assign uniforms or at least a dress code. read more
