Great spot. Passed by with the wife last night. Started with the pork belly biscuits. Wonderful dish, plated beautifully and great flavors. For entree, I had the pecan glazed Florida snapper. Although I requested the lemon butter on the side due to my slight intolerance of lactose. However the wife tried it and loved it. The snapper it self was cooked perfectly, and to my surprised I enjoyed the rice that came with it very much. Being of Latin origin I am very picky with rice, so I was delighted. For sides I ordered the fried green tomato and the Korean fried cauliflower and both were superb. I loved the flavors (they drizzled it with a sauce that seemed to have a soy sauce base) and Crispiness of the cauliflower. For dessert we had the banana bread pudding. It was not what I expect but not disappointing either. Over all it was a great experience and the service was what we expected. This review is for the Magical Dining Month menu at Soco - an easy five stars! I've been here prior for drinks at the bar, so I already knew I liked the atmosphere. My friend and I were seated next to the window inside. Perfect for people watching in Thornton Park! The menu consisted of some tempting options, but I went with the watermelon and arugula salad for my starter. Refreshing start to the meal and the caramelized sugar on top of the watermelon was like icing on the cake! My entree was the grilled pork chop. Oh my goodness - I could not even finish this it was such a generous portion. Loved the flavor of the chop and the sides were great too. Grits cake were not as crispy as I thought they would be, but the greens were a bonus for me being a health nerd. The photos don't do it justice, but my friend was patient with me as I tried to snap some good ones as the sun was going down! Dessert was an apple crisp with ice cream - it was gone in about five seconds flat. My friend said she loved all of her dishes as well and we received excellent service here during a weeknight. This is our favorite brunch spot in Orlando, but we tried them for dinner and were so impressed! We're always loving the service but Kyle our server was superb, he checked in on us enough and had a fun personality that kept us entertained! Andre the manager is cool too! He always ensures our experience is great. We sat near the kitchen which was really cool to interact with the chef team. We tried the pecan crusted snapper and the seasonal scallops! The scallops were to die for especially paired with the black eye pea and truffle soufflé on the plate. I would have never put those two together but it was magical to our taste buds. My husband and I went for happy hour and dinner on a Friday night recently. After looking at various restaurants' menus for Orlando restaurant week, we decided to go to Soco. I made reservations just in case they were busy. We arrived about 15 minutes early but were seated right away. Even though it's summer time in Florida, we chose to sit outside. The porch is covered and has fans so it was actually pleasant. Our server was Jefferson and he came over right away with water. We asked about the happy hour drink specials but he was kind of vague and said he'd be back. The hostess walked by and we ended up asking her about happy hour and she was able to give us better details. Once our server came back, we ordered drinks. I asked about the special cocktails (sparkler, grapefruit fizz, cherry cola) but apparently those are not part of happy hour. My husband and I ended up getting old fashioneds which had a happy hour deal. They were strong and tasty. My only suggestion is to have a happy hour menu so I don't have to ask the server a bunch of questions. The restaurant week menu had 2 different apps, 2 different mains, and 2 different desserts. Between my husband and I, we were able to try everything. The standout appetizer was the mac n cheese croquettes. The tomato sauce was delicious. It was definitely comfort food (think tomato soup and grilled cheese... only fancier). My husband got the cornmeal crisped oysters... honestly the description sounded better. We both agreed that the herb cream was too bitter. For entrees, I tried the chciekn-fried cauliflower "steak". I really enjoyed it. The breading was deliciously seasoned. My husband had the pork chop. It was cooked just as he ordered. The meat was juicy. The collard greens had thick chunks of delicious bacon, and the grits cake was yummy. We ended with dessert. I devoured my smores bread pudding. I absolutely LOVE bread pudding (to the point that I made a list rating my favorite bread puddings). This bread pudding was unique because of the smores aspect. It came with toasted marshmallow ice cream which had actual chunks of marshmallow. Yummm! My husband got the strawberry crisp. It was good but can't compare to the bread pudding. Overall we had a great dining experience. The service was good (other than the whole happy hour thing in the beginning) and the food was awesome. We walked in for brunch on a Sunday without a reservation and were able to snag 2 seats at the bar. I was happy to hear they offered $10 bottomless mimosas with the purchase of an entree. The bartenders prepared the mimosas by the pitcher and our glasses were never empty which was awesome. I ordered the Duck Confit Potato Cakes and my husband got the Shrimp & Grits. The main dishes are on the pricer side for brunch, but I let it slide since I more than got my money's worth on the the drinks. Both our entrees were good. Can't complain but definitely didn't blow our minds. I will say the Shrimp & Grits portion was slightly small and my husband was still hungry after finishing. Luckily mine was more than enough, so I shared with him. The service at the bar was great even though they were quite busy. I like the ambiance of Soco and they have a great outdoor patio area which will be nice for dining now that the weather is starting to cool down. Finding parking in Thornton Park on a Sunday is tricky so we ended up parking in the garage and paying the daily rate. read more

Came here for brunch last weekend and the service and food were not at good as they should have been given this place's prices and reputation. Service - not good for the first 20 minutes or so. It took at least 10 minutes for us to even get waters and another 10 minutes for our drink orders to get taken. The woman who was initially serving us was just kinda slumping around the restaurant unenthusiastically topping off other tables' mimosas while she mostly ignored us. A different server took over our table and he was much more attentive so the service DID improve. He did a great job refilling our mimosas and keeping us happy. The food - wasn't BAD, but it just wasn't that good. We did really enjoy the pop tarts, which came in a berry and lemon flavor. Both were good but I really loved the lemon. My fried chicken biscuit sandwich was a let-down. The chicken was chewy and really tough to cut into... like I was basically sawing at it with my knife. I think it's time for a new fried chicken recipe. I also tasted my friends' pork belly biscuits and lobster benedict and found both of those dishes to be underwhelming. The mimosas and Bloody Marys were really good. My friend also liked his Gin and Juice cocktail. Late in reviewing this gem but I was went a few weeks back before the Hamilton Show. So glad we went. It was a big deal for my 12 yr old as she was excited for the show and got all dressed up. The server was kind enough to make sure she got a very fancy looking non alcoholic beverage so she could celebrate. She is vegetarian so he recommended the cauliflower steak which she really loved. It was done in a chicken fried steak fashion. My friend got the tacos which she devoured. I got a very refreshing moscow mule and the meatloaf. The meatloaf was tasty but I prefer mine more toothsome..this was a bit overprocessed and a bit mushy for me but it was tasty. The ambiance was very nice and the service was impeccable. First visit here for Sunday brunch. When we were greeted by the hostess we were asked if we had a reservation (didn't know we needed one), but they found us a seat outside. She walked back inside to seat us at a very small table up against a wall. My husband is a pretty big dude and didn't occur to her to try and find a bigger table! Oh well, we made it work. Our waiter took a little longer than I would have liked to get to us. He suggested we try the buttermilk biscuits and and strawberry jam for additional $1, we decided to try. The biscuits were hot but a little hard around the edges. The jam was awesome. My husband and I both got the shrimp and grits. The seasoning on the shrimp was outstanding. Very little grits but they were cooked just right. I had the bottomless mimosas which were pretty good, I did have to ask twice for another mimosa.. Some friends and I decided to try this restaurant for brunch while visiting Orlando because of the great ratings. The hostess was a little weird and seemed confused. We arrived early for our reservation and asked the hostess if we could sit at an empty high top table in the bar area but she told us it was reserved. After waiting for about 35 mins, the hostess walked us to the empty table that I originally asked about; it was our table the whole time . But maybe she was new.... Christian was our server and he was great! He was very friendly and gave us wonderful customer service. The food was really good! Be warned that Soco is one of the major brunch spots in downtown Orlando so a reservation is essential. My friend and I arrived within minutes of opening and there were only a few spots left at the bar for walking. The food was pretty typical. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which I'd recommend but only for those with a serious sweet tooth. It was doused in syrup, and it was actually so sweet that my friend got a bit bothered halfway through our meal. I got the breakfast sandwich, and it was standard but not as filling as I'd hoped. If I go back, I would definitely try their drinks. Wow, great food and great service. We had dinner here a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night. We were a walk in but showed up early around 5:30. Their cocktails and liquor menu is a bit bourbon centric but that works for me. I tried the bourbon flight and they were all tasty except the maple bourbon was too over the top sweet and mapley. We started with the pork belly biscuits which were tasty. I had the pork shank which was straight up amazing! Tender juicy pork with a luscious sauce and wonderful, perfectly cooked grits. My wife's snapper was delicious as well. Our wine selection was a very good pinot noir. We will have to leave room next time for dessert. Service was also very good, attentive but not hovering and not at all snooty. I highly recommend Soco and hope we can get back soon. read more

If I'm being honest, the only reason for the third star is the mussels we had for an appetizer. We walked in on a Saturday night for a quick bite before a concert at Amway, and despite there being only about 4 tables sat, the host asked us if we had a reservation and hesitated before sitting us down. Our server took her sweet time taking our drink order and then bringing our drinks and then coming back to take our food order. There was a table sat next to us with an older couple where she stopped to check in at least twice as much as she did with us. Despite the slow and unimpressive service, our food was good. The mussels were the best, the broth they were served in was delicious and the sausage and onions added a great flavor. I ordered the fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce and my sister ordered the burger. The fried chicken was pretty good, but nothing to write home about and definitely not worth its price. The burger was better, the sweet bacon marmalade added a tasty flavor and the patty was cooked just right to order. The onion rings in the side were super crispy and the batter was one of the best I've tried. Again, it took a long time for our server to appear to offer us dessert and grab the bill so we had to rush out. I tried ordering the Brussels sprouts but they were out so I didn't get to try it. I have come here about 3 or 4 times. The first time I came here the service sucked but I gave them a couple more tries and they redeem them self later on. The food was excellent and the drinks were also very good every time even at the times they had a shitty service. However on Sunday we got a server named Alexis and it was a different story My family was in town and it happened to be my sister in law's and my brother's birthday so we decided to do bottomless mimosas at this place. We made reservations for 1 pm on Sunday. They sat the wrong group at our table and we didn't sat at our table until 1:32 pm. The dummies on the front took like 10 minutes to clean a table and set it up.. The server took forever to get our drink order and our food order and we didn't received our first mimosa until 1:42 even though we had reservations for 1pm We got our food until 2:14 but my plate didn't arrive with the other because the kitchen messed up. I usually don't care but this whole time I have only gotten like two mimosas. I don't know if Alexis had too many tables or didn't care to refill our drinks but I only got like 4 mimosas and pretty much ignored us after we got the bill. I was not happy for the service and definitely will not go back there for brunch.. I been to a million other places for brunch and there is no point to offering unlimited mimosas if your server doesn't refill your mimosas. This whole brunch experience sucked big time but the food was pretty good. I will not come here u less I know the server because the food and drinks are great but the service is a hit and miss. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Do not waste your time, take yourself somewhere else if you know you want to have a good time without a time limit. Their staff has zero customers service or idea of what service recovery is. My party and I (group of 5) came here because their Sunday brunch menu looked promising and they have a bottomless mimosa special. We were also excited to try their homemade pop tarts as dessert but, unfortunately the server kicked us out after an hour of us being in the restaurant. She claim there is a 2 hour limit for their dining. We spoke to (Who seems to be) The manager and he kept telling my party it was all over their website the time limit disclaimer. I tried looking and nowhere on their website it says anything about a dining time limit. I made a reservation for 11:15am. At noon, when one of my friends asked for bottle for our mimosas she pretty much refused, and said she was only coming back to ask for how we wanted our checks to be split. She (the server) threw her hands in the air and said she needed to check what time it was because her next reservation was coming. However, her attitude did not start there.... My partner did not liked her first choice of food, so when the server came to ask how the food was, we told her we wanted to change our food to something else. She did not like that, she made a ugh noise and ask what we wanted to change the meal for. My party and I found that a little off putting but brushed it off. Later one of my friends asked for more juice for his mimosa and she also did not like that requested that... she aggressively took our empty carafe and left. But it wasn't until the champagne bottle request that things started to get uncomfortable and awkward. One of my friends spoke to the manager and after some back and forth he brought us a bottle. The server asked the hostess to come and tell us the next party needed to be seated so I told her we were aware, if our server wasn't avoiding our table we would have left by then, we were just waiting on our checks. I have lived downtown for about a year now and never know this place was that close, just a block down from Lake Eola. The place has a nice little patio but a little too hot for my friend and I so we opted to sit inside. The staff were very friendly and our waiter knowing that this was our first time there gave us a little backstory on the owner which is always cool to hear. You can definitely tell the place is a high end southern restaurant with the decor and atmosphere. We decided to order off the magical dining menu and wash dish was very delicious. The waiter also mentioned that it was taco Tuesday and that they flatten the biscuit to be the tortilla which my friend and I decided that we definitely have to come back again. What a perfect and memorable birthday meal I had at this restaurant! From food to service to overall atmosphere, everything was just really very lovely. We were seated at a table overlooking the open kitchen and so it was cool seeing the chefs working to prepare the meals. I got my food choices from the Magical Dining menu but my parents ordered a la Carte. My menu choices were: 1) Slow-Roasted Barbecue-Glazed Pork Belly Biscuits with Jalapeño Jelly + Chow-Chow - delicious and memorable start to the meal!! The bisucit was light and flakey in texture, the pork belly was tender and melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned, and then u got the kick from the jalapeno followed by the crunchy from the chow-chow. So good and would order again. 2) Griddled Faroe Island Salmon with Anson Mills Grits, Tomato-Arugula Salad, Smoked Bacon Emulsion - Salmon was cooked beautifully - just perfect sear. The grits and salad and bacon complimented the meal wondrously. Each bite was a pleasure. Texture of the food was of the charts! 3) Chef's select Bread Pudding with Ice Cream - perfect sweet end of the meal. It was warm and gooey and not too sweet - perfection in each bite! My parents got: 1) The "Other" KFC aka "Korean" Fried Cauliflower Florets - so good! Def would get these again. SoCo stands for Southern Contemporary and let me tell you, even if you don't like Southern food, this place will convert you to a true believer. I went for dinner Sunday night with family. Service was excellent. My sister and I were talking about how smoothly they refilled our waters. Seriously, I never noticed them doing so and always had a full glass of water. Their drinks were pretty exceptional. They have a make your own old fashioned, but I opted for one of their seasonal cocktails. It was called a Sir Isaac and man oh man was it good. It was primarily bourbon and apple cider. For appetizers, we tried the boiled peanut hummus, which was definitely interesting. I loved it, but I can see where others might find the peanut flavor a little overwhelming. The steak tartare with quail's egg was good but not out of this world good. Dinner was definitely a step up from the appetizers. I ordered the griddled salmon. It was delicious and I don't think I can remember liking a dish so much that I finished the whole entire plate. It had been a number of years since I last dined here and I can state that I will not wait that long again! A friend organized this dinner and got our group of 8 a reservation at 7:30. We had drinks at the bar and we were attended to by Tim and Kaitlyn, who both did a great job with our drinks as well as attending to everyone else's cocktail orders. My cosmos were perfect throughout the night. (Great job, Kaitlyn!) Our waiter was Jefferson and he did an extremely commendable job given our eclectic group. He was always there to make sure our drinks were attended to, our water glasses were full and he provided recommendations or suggestions relative to any of the menu items. Now, let's discuss the amazing food!! We started off with a great Chef's Cheese Board along with excellent Fried Green Tomatoes. But the big hit was the Soco-Style "Chicken and Dumplings"! It was a combination of chicken breast, lobster dumplings, mushrooms, edamame, and soy butter. The sauce was amazingly delicious! This appetizer was recommended by my friend and I wholeheartedly agree with this recommendation. (See the pics on Yelp!) For my main course, my friend also recommended the Pecan-Crusted Florida Snapper and she was spot on again! The fish was perfectly cooked and the lemon butter sauce added to the overall fantastic flavor of the fish itself. A special shout out to Greg, the chef, as he came over to our table to see how everything was going with our group and if we were pleased with our selections. At the previous dinners, service was very attentive. At brunch our server just wasn't on top of things. It seemed like the moment he realized we weren't drinking alcohol he forgot about us. We ordered the pork belly biscuits to start. It would have been a good dish except that the pork belly was lukewarm like it had been sitting too long. In addition the biscuits were outright cold in the middle. To me it seemed like they had been in the fridge or freezer and not reheated thoroughly enough. Then we waited and waited for our entrees. When they finally arrived my boyfriend's French toast plate was extremely hot to the touch and too hot initially to even eat. I honestly think it was left under a heat lamp way too long. I had the salmon and everything "bagel" biscuit. It was unlike any biscuit I've had before and I really enjoyed the unique taste and how it was toasted. The salmon was fine but nothing special. A few more slices would've been nice as I felt there was too much biscuit and not enough salmon to go around. When we got the check we were charged the wrong price for the pork belly biscuits. I'd taken a photo of the menu that clearly read $8 but we were charged $9. Even though it was only $1 difference I normally would have spoken up, but I was flying out later that day and had to get home to pack. I couldn't risk waiting to see how long it would take to get the bill corrected. I did quickly jot some feedback on the comment card so hopefully management will make improvements. read more

Went here for a brunch visit with one of my friends, we wanted to check out one of the other restaurants but everything else was closed. Who would have thought, I thought most restaurants are capitalizing on easy food with high margins.The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was nice for brunch, I can't say I'm in love with the curtains but otherwise a nice space. For drinks they have unique list of cocktails. They offer a bottomless mimosa for $10 but I opted for the Bloody Mary, $6. It was really good, with lots of toppings (bacon, olive, lime and pepper) and the mix includes a porter beer which makes the drink more rich. For food, I decided on the fried chicken sandwich, $12 which came with a nice argula salad. My friend ordered the french toast, $14 which had various fruits and granola. Service was great, always refilling my water and making sure my friend's mimosa glass was full. Good spot to check out for breakfast. read more
