I stumbled on Sodam on a Yelp search so I wanted to pick up some gimbap for lunch one day. It's located in a little strip mall a bit off the beaten path, it would definitely been easy to miss. I was surprised to see the selection of things when I walked in. Not only were there the Korean snacks like the gimbap I was looking for but they have refrigerated cases of kimchee and other banchan as well as a hot case with prepared foods and other snacks- like a little convenience store! Since this plaza is small, parking might be scarce depending on when you come. When I walked in, I found Sodam to be a very cute corner store/restaurant. There were a variety selection of Korean snacks and ingredients you can buy if you're ever running low. But I came to buy the Kimbap, Tteokboki, and Fishcake soup. Sodam offers seating and a bathroom if you wish to dine in. I took my order to go and it was still delicious by the time I got around to eating it. I definitely would come back again! read more

I love Sodam! I've hosted a few at-home Korean BBQs, and this is the place I usually get my pre-made sides, marinated spicy pork/bulgogi, and Kimbap! It's great that we have a local, small Korean market like this in the area. The only issue I had was the Japchae I took home during my first visit turned out to be spoiled. Stumbled upon this spot because I was craving Kimbap. It's a little hidden in the corner of this small plaza, so make sure you don't miss it. It's a cute little market, I guess you could say. They have premade soups in the fridge that you can take home and some pastries that are wrapped up, and some snacks as well. It was a couple years ago when I went, that's when I first moved to Dublin. We had to social distance, and they would only allow a few people in at a time. Not sure how it is now. I think they make their kimbap fresh, I think I got beef? It was really good, it really satisfied my craving. I finally was able to stop by Sodam on my last day in the Pleasanton area. It's fairly easy to find but the parking lot was nearly full on Thursday @ 2 pm. I picked up a beef kimbap, kimchee fried rice, bottle of aloe drink and got a cup of the Korean plum slushy. I asked the lady if the plum slushy was sour and was so happy she said yes. The food was ok but the slushy was 5 stars! Let me tell you that on a hot day, this sour plum slushy was the best drink ever! I am going to look for this drink/slushy everywhere I go now. read more

I've come to this place several times for Korean food to-go and every time, the food has been great! I usually order kimbap, and I've had the beef, red, and the fishcake one. My favorite is the red, because it is a bit spicy! The beef kimbap has bigger slices, but I think the order of rolls overall is smaller than the red and fishcake kimbap. Anyway, it was 30 minutes until closing on Friday, so like around 6:30? They did not have too many rolls or hot food left, but we asked if we could order the red kimbap and soondae (blood sausage), and they were happy to make that for us. It took about less than 5 minutes until it was done, and both orders were hot and freshly made. I know that some restaurants can get lazy within the last hour for closing, so I'm really happy and appreciative that they accommodated us without hesitation. As for the red roll, last time they ran out, and the lady told us that we could make our own rolls with one of the fresh sides that they have in the fridge. This time, we were able to snag a roll, and I really like that they don't add too much rice to the rolls, which allows me to enjoy the other fillings they have in there. It's just so yummy that I didn't take the time to stare at the fillings to list here haha. I like that the soondae comes with a sort of chili salt on the side. When I first looked at the side of salt, I thought that would be too little for how many pieces we had, but it is plenty! I'm sure you could ask for extra if you wanted, though. Food is always very fresh, including the refrigerated sides (ordered yummy bean sprouts, and some other veggie side last time.) Service is friendly and prompt! They are willing to answer your questions and to accommodate you whenever they can! The dining area here isn't usually filled when I come here because most of the food is to-go, maybe 1 or 2 tables with people each time. The staff here are always so sweet! I really love their fishcake kimbap and jap chae. The vegetable dumplings are also really good and the chicken wings have a perfect texture. The citron slush is also a perfect sour and is refreshing when it's hot outside. The fish cake soup comes with a LOT of fishcake and is tasty when it's cold. Awesome Korean mom and pop shop. It's one of those spots for quick bites where you order at the counter, pick up the food, find a table, then go. They also offer a decent variety of rice cakes, ban chan, teas, and snacks to go. The menu is pretty limited as they only offer fish cake soup, ddeok bokki, kim bap, and bing soo. To be honest, I've been craving bing soo and ddeok bokki ... and that's what lead me to Sodam. Could not find any other place that offers bing soo in my area so I was super excited when I saw this place along the way to Livermore. The rice cake definitely hit the spot, enjoyed every spicy bite of it. Bing soo was also refreshing, except the ice melted rather quickly. First time trying rice cakes and kimbap and it was soo good! This is the only place around me that has fresh Kimbap and for such a great deal too. You get about 12 pieces of Kimbap. I also got the kimchi from the fridge and have been adding it to my noodles and other foods. Everything was about $5 each so very affordable. My only drawback and reason for 4 stars is all the styrofoam and plastic and that they keep the kimbap outside till ordering sometimes. Came here with my gf n there was plenty of seating available - I'd say it holds about 15 customers but no waiter service: you walk in and you pick out the food from the shelves and/or at the register, pay, then enjoy! lol I love variety so I got myself: beef kimbap $6 - eh, skip this original fishcake $6 - yum get this spicy fishcake $6 - eh, skip this japchae $4 - good but nothing extraordinary du bokke $5 - yum! get this (it comes with fishcake so opt out of the spicy fishcake) spicy chicken wings $10 - yum but there is a kick! I think next time I might try the non-spicy there is self-serve water available but cups are about 4oz so you gotta refilling.. gf n I had to use napkins to catch any food falling - unsure if they offer disposable plates because we didn't see any but I didn't ask either so at the end u might just have to wipe the table down lolol I'll always visit if I'm in the area, cross fingers bingsoo will be available! read more

MY FAV PLACE FOR KIMBAP. I literally make the 1 hr. drive just to get their fish cake and bulgogi kimbap! So worth it, especially given that it is so affordable. Their food is FRESHLY MADE. Orders (depending on if it is busy or not) can take a little while if they are not already prepared and placed outside but you know you are getting it hand-rolled in the back for you. The service is also perfect! The employees are super nice and often answer all my questions about the different foods they have available. Sodam is a small Korean grocery store/take-out restaurant that sells anything from snacks to banchan to pre-made soup. If you are a Korean food fan, this is a place not to be missed because you should be able to find something you like with great quality. The parking lot is small and there's salon and massage shops in the same plaza and is always busy, so you might have to park a bit far and walk here. I tried their Beef and Seaweed soup - pre-made and stored in fridge in small container, reasonable price, bought in the morning and had it the same night, tasted very good, not salty and lots of seaweed. This tiny, hidden Korean mom-and-pop shop isn't a restaurant or a bakery per se. It's more of a snack place that sells Korean desserts, different types of kimchi and appetizers (banchan), Korean tea and drinks, and, lastly but definitely my favorites, spicy rice cake (ddukbokki), Korean sushi with bulgogi (kimbap), Korean fried chicken wings, and fish cake soup (odeng guk). This the perfect place for a light lunch or afternoon snacks. Their delicious freshly-made-everyday kimbap is my favorite snack to buy for a long hike or to bring to a picnic/potluck (and have people think you made it yourself). For a package of 2 rolls at around $5, it's a steal! Most things are already packaged and sitting on the counter/freezer/heat lamp except for the fish cake soup and spicy rice cake, which they make to-order in the back. After having tried most things in the shop, i can confidently say everything is delicious and fresh. The service has always been courteous and friendly, even though their English isn't the best. Sodam is a small Korean mini mart tucked in the corner of the plaza that sells ready-made fresh hot food, side dishes and dessert. Love this place. Since leaving South Bay, the thing I miss most is K-Town. This spot gives me a little slice of K-Town in the East Bay. The staff is super friendly and will indulge me as I mumble in Korean and try and rattle off my order. In addition to having delicious grub, it is also a great place to get a quick fix on your Korean Staples like kimchi and kakdugee. The lady in front is very friendly & even thought her English isn't the strongest, she'll help explain dishes/snacks/drinks that are new to me. There are a lot of side dishes & marinated stuff available in the fridge area, perfect to grab and bring home for dinner! The sweets all look super good but be careful if you're allergic to nuts! lucky for me, there's a selection of popsicles and red bean treats to satisfy my sweet tooth :) Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get, 2 rolls of kimbap in 1 package?!?! Yum! there's also bingsu and the sweet (very refreshing) rice drink, hot drinks if you want too. If you stay to eat, water is self serve from a dispenser. There's a pretty good selection of food here - they have kimbap, rice cakes, japchae, chicken wings, kimchi fried rice, patbingsoo, honey dukk, packaged banchan! they also have korean drinks here, my fav was the milkis. I've tried the kimchi fried rice (didn't have meat it in), pretty good! You can def taste the kimchi. Also got the beef kimbap, for $5, it's not bad, but didn't rly like the beef flavors. The rice cakes was good too, it was super soft, wish they gave more fish cakes though (only got 2 pieces). the food def tastes & looks homemade here, it won't taste like restaurant quality! Recently, I called the store if I can buy some ban-chan as much as possible because I'm supposed to invite my families at home, and she told me "No worries. I have it much more than you need. You may come in" I don't live Dublin so I needed to make sure the number of ban-chan before leaving my home. At that time, she told me YES. But when I came in SODAM, there's only one portion of ban-chan. I tried to calm down and ask her but she didn't apologize it. I was embarrassed and I called her. Look, I had never heard of the City of Dublin before moving to the East Bay. So when my wife was searching for some "sEoul" food on the Yelp app to satisfy her inner Korean and she came across this little Korean café in Dublin, I thought she was talking about some fucking place in Ireland. No joke. Although rice cakes with Irish whiskey is a pretty good pairing. Again, no joke. So immediately after she showed me the pictures on the Yelp app, BAM! I pressed bookmark! Like the City of Dublin, I had never heard of the Korean word "sodam" before. I used Google Translate and that shit was useless. It wasn't until I typed some stuff in Korean that I got the definition (http://bit.ly/1MY1534) that sodam is an adjective that has the following definitions (again I am not joking around): pleasantly plump (WTF), buxom, juicy, tasty, nice and rich, full of good things... Never knew this word was "so-dam" naughty hahaha. Definitely adding this word to my everyday vocabulary. So... on a serious note, when we arrived at Sodam, we were annoyed because we could not find a parking spot. You see, it is located in a strip mall with a major deficiency in parking spaces. Also, it does not help that ajummas (Korean ladies) that eat at Sodam don't leave. They just sit there and just gossip and talk shit all day. SMH. Anyways, after we found parking, we walked into a little café that was larger than it looked from the outside. To the left of the entrance were refrigerators filled with kimchi and other delectable side dishes; to the right of the entrance were about 7-8 tables; and straight ahead was the cashier with rice cake desserts and kimbap rolls encompassing the register. We immediately ordered the tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) that was $5 for a small container and we bought a spicy garlic stem side dish. The tteokbokki takes about 10 minutes, so here's a pro tip. Call ahead foolios. Look, we have had tteokbokki in Los Angeles and in Korea, and honestly, Sodam's tteokbokki is pretty fucking legit. It was a real surprise, akin to finding out that a skinny ass 3-point-shooting kid with ankle problems from Davidson College would help the Dubs win the NBA Championship. The garlic stem side dish was equally tasty. On a subsequent visit, I picked up some kimchi as well and that was pretty good. However, we always get the tteokbokki. I mean sure, it is pricey compared to Korea or Los Angeles, but shit, everything is fucking overpriced in the Bay Area so stop whining. They also have other stuff but we've only really had the tteokbokki so we can't comment if you did not like some other shit. At the end of the day, I loved how the pleasantly plump rolls of cylindrical rice cakes covered in buxom spicy sauce were juicy, tasty, nice and rich, and full of good things. In other words, the tteokbokki was SODAM - as in So-DAMN-GOOD. My only gripes? The aformentioned lack of parking... Also, they are closed on Sundays probably for religious reasons... and "Irish" Sodam was a little closer to my house. FML. read more
