The Sodo Kitchen is a decent option if you happen to be in the Sodo District or if you're visiting a friend in the area. Food is tasty but it can be a bit expensive for what you ultimately get (with average cost being around $10-$11 per meal). The best bang for your buck though is probably the oven fire pizza ($7/$8) or the mac & cheese side (~$2/$3). They rotate the same menu fairly often, so it can feel like there's not a lot of variety. However, it's a fairly quick way to get a bite to eat and the staff has always been friendly and very nice to me. read more

Eh. I have been here a couple of times since I now work nearby and let's just say this place is somewhat mediocre. The food itself is okay but what really kills it are the prices. Example: personal pizza $6.79, a large soup $3.99 (!), a small small box of fries is $1.99. A lunch can definitely cost you around $12 or so. The creamy potato soup was SUPER disappointing, no flavor at all. The Indian food here is pretty good (vegetable korma yeah)! Oh and if a sandwich is not on the menu and you want that kind of sandwich, be wary! I asked the chef in the morning to make a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, which he did, but the lady at the front charged me for each individual item... the eggs, the cheese, the bacon, the bagel. Lost two stars. Here's why. I have regulated this place to a joint I get PB&J toast to once or twice a week. It's been $2.27 since I started doing it months ago. They have CB's Nuts peanut butter which is delicious and serviceable jelly (they have a strawberry that's labeled marion berry but I'll let that slide). A bonus is that I believe the bread is from Macrina, which I love. So pretty much every Wednesday morning $2.27 leaves my wallet and PB&J toast enters my gob. Tuesday I got PB&J toast. Tuesday it was $2.27. Wednesday I get PB&J toast. Wednesday it was $2.80. I was puzzled so I said, "Normally it's $2.27." The cashier (same as yesterday) said and I'm paraphrasing, "No, it's always been this price." I said, "Yesterday it wasn't. Yesterday it was $2.27." She responded paraphrasing, "No, it's always been this price. We have to charge for this, this, and this." like I was some kind of idiot. I went to my bank statement peppered with $2.27 charges (14 times since May including Tuesdays charge) from my debit card. I remembered the way the other cashier (who must be on vacation) would always say $2.27 in the same cadence. It was comforting. When she said, "$2.27 please." it meant I was just that much closer to my toast. Plus she was super nice and helpful. Maybe the $2.27 reminded me of '227' with Sherman Hemsley (RIP) and Jackee. I dunno, I'm not a psychiatrist. 53 cents isn't that big of a deal, I can afford it. It's just the BS of having to explain myself to someone who doesn't care and then proceeds to lie to my face. Their breakfast choices are simple, and good. That's the positive. Negative - way overpriced, very complicated menu. If you want the up to the minute buzzwords, this is your place. I started counting the number of times "sustainable", "socially responsible" "locally sourced" appeared on their website and signage, but there were just too many. If you want to grab an ready-made sandwich, there are some bizarre choices... fig relish? How about simple things, like tuna salad...they do have PB&J, but it's on some kind of "artisan" bread. I once ordered a made-to-order sandwich, asked for roast beef and provolone. The roast beef was sliced really, really thick, and the bread was too hard/crusty. It sucked. I went down right at the tail end of lunch (but before closing time) and was treated pretty rudely by one of the guys. I really, really don't care about your social responsibility. Good for you. Be a viable choice for the captive audience you've got. Simplify your menu, scale back on the overly gourmet fare. But it's Socially Responsible, Ethically sourced, and hey - where else can you go to pay more than $4 for a cupcake? Really? read more

I started working in this building about a month ago and was so excited that there was a place to eat that seemed to care so much about the quality of the ingredients they were using. Unfortunately, they don't really do much with those ingredients. Nothing tastes bad, but it doesn't taste particularly good either, and when you charge $11 for a burger and fries, it should taste good! So far I've had: the pizza-the crust was undercooked and the sauce was lackluster the chicken burger- how do you make green chilis not taste like anything? a sandwich- it was huge but again, it didn't really taste like anything. I'm running out of items to try but based on previous experience I think I'm going to give up and visit the food trucks. read more

Final Verdict: Give it a chance. It's their first day... So I am only going to review the food. New restaurants and cafes always need to get their logistics right in the first month. The first day you learn what isn't working. This is on the 3rd floor of the Starbucks/Sears building. I had the big blue burger. Pretty darn good. The blue cheese was great and the veggies were fresh. The fries were not bad, but not something to call out as great. I grabbed a 20oz bottle of Pepsi only to find it wasn't cold. Burger ($6.79), Fries ($2), and Soda ($2) came out to just over $11 with tax. Some of the plates here were very good looking, but I haven't heard any feedback. Back to logistics... I picked up my plate and then needed to stand in line to pay. By the time I sat down, the burger had gone cold. I can't give 4 stars if the food was cold. If it was warm, I could have definitely could have considered 4. Final Verdict: Give it a chance. The chefs are making great food here and the rest of it should get worked out soon. read more

I started work in the SODO district six (6) months ago, suffering through random pho restaurants, Subways, and bad Chinese foods, until my partner, a Starbux employee took me to SODO Kitchen. On the third floor of the Starbux HQ, SODO Kitchen is a pricey lunchtime oasis in the SODO district. Start with the centerpiece - an amazing salad bar pack with fresh vegetables including beets (gold and red), beets (gold and red), carrots, grilled brussell sprouts, edamame, mushrooms, etc. - and each day a selection of salmon and grilled chicken (today, espresso rubbed chicken). There is a wood-burning pizza station which has the best pizza in Seattle - bar none. Also a grill station with burgers (made with hormone-free, grass fed cattle), plus a global station. Assorted other food selections, plus desserts, makes SODO Kitchen a lunchtime destination. Only problem is visibility. Until the feature in the Seattle Times, I had no idea I could walk into Starbux HQ, press the elevator button for the third floor and lunch with Howard Schultz (a frequent visitor). read more

There are several stations - one with comfort foods (grilled chicken, mac'n'cheese and soups), a salad bar, burger grill, global, pizza and a sandwich station. You can eat in or get a takeout. Positives: - Food quality - Yummy French fries at the grill - Mac'n'cheese - Good selection at the salad bar - Generous portions - Pleasant staff - Lines at the cashier move pretty fast Room for improvement: - The global station is almost always Indian (as in 50 out of 52 weeks each year) - The ingredient featured at the global station also tends to be in one of the two soup choices of the day - Can be rather noisy - Higher prices (you pay extra for any meat that you add at the salad bar) - The elevators take forever to come (no stair access) - And worst of all, the process to return the porcelain dishes and cutlery if you eat in (yes, I get it, it's less labor on the kitchen staff, but they could at least provide some cleansing wipes because there's a 99% chance that you'll end up touching someone else's dirty plates or forks) Overall, it's an OK place, considering the small number of lunch spots available in the area. If you're craving a really yummy Mac'n'cheese, it is your place to go. If you're after a five star restaurant, well, tough luck. read more

3 stars are for the variety and conveinence. I was here visiting the daughter of a friend and we ate here so we could enjoy more of her lunch hour together. I went with the reuben, cause, it's one of my favorite meals and i use it as a judge of the place, I should have paid attention - it was on flat bread... hmmm. Then they asked if i wanted lettuce or spinach - what? on a reuben? um, spinach. Then they proceed to ask what else i want on it. IT"S A REUBEN... there is no other stuff - corned beef, sourcraught, thousand island done... They also cut it long ways... so the short end of the sandwich was where the fold was... weird. And the corned beer was cold... say what? There were many other things that looked interesting - like the tikka masala or the salad bar. I have had inconsistent results when I request salmon from the grill. I always request it to be cooked medium. Today it is unbearable to eat, because it is too dry. The salad bar has been the most reliable. Time to start packing my lunches. read more

Sodo Kitchen is located on the 3rd floor of the Starbucks HQ building. There is quite an array of foods to choose from here. There is pizza, salad bar, deli, indian, American, burgers, fish and chips, etc. If you come around 11 am - 1:30 pm expect it to be very busy. This place is open to the public, as you do not need any special access to get in. I've tried most of what is offered here, and now all I ever get is the cheeseburger and fries. Everything else just seems very overpriced and mediocre for what you're paying for. The pizzas are not that bad.. but they are a bit too small for me. I always feel myself being hungry still. As for the Indian food, my coworkers pay $10+ for a few slices of Naan and some beef or chicken. It looks like $5 worth of food. The prices should match the foods mediocrity.. so for that reason I give it a 3 star. read more

Since I work in the building, I am a frequent visitor to the Sodo Kitchen. The food is good, way better than the average cafeteria and the range of food is outstanding. Their pizza is decent and wood fired. The crust is better than average but the sauces and cheeses could use an upgrade as well as the size. The place is too loud to enjoy your meal during peak lunch time and the 3 registers for check out are not sufficient during the noon hour. However, if you can eat there at 11 or 1:30, it's quite enjoyable. So, my suggestions are: make your pizza ingredients more upscale. Make a decent veggie burger with flavor. Add some registers and put some sound buffers in the ceilings. But, this is such a small complaint owing to the fact that prior to Sodo Kitchen, this area of Seattle had very little to offer in the way of food. read more

It's a cafeteria. A friend and I went for lunch about a month ago. His idea, he'd been there before. I had a big chunk of salmon coated with something delicious, two salads, and a hard roll. Everything was very good. My friend agreed. I don't even know what he had. My treat, and the bill was reasonable. Both of us had a little trouble figuring out where to take our trays but an employee straightened us out. My biggest problem with this place is my concern over food handling.When they first opened I witnessed the breakfast sandwich assembling guy eating bits of the food he was assembling. Say a piece of croissant broke off, he ate it. I informed the manager the next time i was there and while the guy still works there, he no longer makes the sandwiches. Then, just this morning, I watched bare tattooed knuckles open the fridge and pull something green out of a bin and stick it into another bin and then head back into the kitchen.. Ummmm, shouldn't they be wearing gloves to handle any food? I am now left to wonder about the standards in this place especially out of sight. I ordered a Santa Fe burger from the grill without a bun. Now usually places put it on a nice bed of lettuce or something. Nope, I got a patty on a bed of cold green chilies, one measly onion strip and a sprinkle of Mexican cheese. (Hello, fresh salsa or quac, maybe??) I can even tell you how SMALL the poor lonely patty looked in my huge to-go box. And the worst part is they charged me the full $7.49!!! Seriously expensive for the taste and quantity. I'm often annoyed this is my only option since I work in the building and don't usually have time to go out. I once ordered a simple chicken breast by itself and they tried to charge me $9. I took it back and pointed out I could get a whole grilled organic chicken for that price at PCC. The burgers are always raw and when you ask for well done they still come pink. And, no joke, it takes about 10-15 minutes of standing there waiting just to get your raw order. A simple cheeseburger is about $8 and doesn't come with fries. They don't even offer an option for any type of chip, fries, or drink. As someone else said, the international food has no variety and always seems to be curry of some kind. There is no signage to tell you how much things cost or if it's extra for something. For a sandwich that's half the size of Subway and costs about $2 more, I was shocked to learn that a if I wanted a "club" type sandwich I had to pay for every type of meat as an extra. No one told me till I got to the cashier and my sandwich was over $12. And seriously don't get me started on the overpriced salad bar with little options. The staff is hit and miss. Some of them are really great and some come with a huge attitude. And they DEFINITELY don't like questions. Tell you what, if you don't want questions, put up signs. Most annoying to me are the hours. If you want to eat between 10 and 11:30 good luck to you. And they close at 2. (What restaurant is open only 4 hours a day???) And those are only the posted hours. If you come at 1:30 it's dead and they aren't that willing to help. If you try for breakfast at 9:45 they have already closed up shop and turned the lights off. They will begrudgingly make you eggs, but don't even think about hash browns (of which they never prepare enough and even at earlier hours there's a 50% chance you'll have to wait 10 min for "fresh" hashbrowns). It's also usually a 15/20 minute wait for breakfast as well. But precisely at 10:00 every single day they have a staff meeting IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CAFETERIA. They all gather around, it's hard to get by them, and they will completely ignore all customers - even though they say they're open for light snacks during that time. I once wrote them directly with my concerns and they sent back a rather argumentative letter claiming I was basically wrong. In short, I wish we could go back to the cafeteria that was there before. I hate that this pretentious expensive tasteless place is the only option around and thank God that we have the option of food trucks. read more

I've been eating there very often since i don't bring lunch to work very often. Usually food is pretty good, sometimes inconsistent. One time i ordered Kalbi beef but the meet was so tough and dry that i can barely chew it up. But my biggest problem with the place is that I've noticed the portions at the global station has been gone down significantly. I ordered a grassfed cheeseburger, the bun was a local bakery, the veggies were organic, I got a large clam chowder and a big side of collard greens. I came here for the first time today. If you don't already know this is the Starbucks Headquarters Building (The Old Sears Building). There's a security guard when you first walk in but they don't bother you. I think the cafeteria is on the 3rd floor if I'm correct. Of course the place was clean. I think you should be able to assume this place would be clean and it was. There's also an actual US Bank branch on the same floor as the cafeteria. I should've had the chicken curry ($9.79 I think) but I got the Italian Sausage Pizza instead. Mainly because it was $6.99. It was pretty good. The only thing was it was that super thin saltine cracker type pizza. I always think I'm getting cheated when I get the paper thin pizza cause it ends up weighing all of 4oz. This place is horrible, I would give them no stars if I could. The menus don't tell you if there is mayo or mustard and when you ask for it without they wont do it. I have tried this place 4 times and the only thing that doesn't taste bad are the pizzas. The taco meat has so much fat that its not edible. You are best off if you work in the building to bring your food or walk to some where close. read more
