The Cluck Chub 5/5 Let me start off by saying that this sandwich is absolutely massive and messy but also one of my favorite chicken sandwiches I've ever had. The patty was juicy and well-seasoned without being too salty. The other toppings like the bacon jam, bacon, lettuce, cheeses, etc complemented the sandwich well without overpowering anything. The grits were one of my favorites-- I can't seem to find lots of grits places in Seattle. With all of that being said, I will warn you that this sandwich is extremely messy so be prepared to clean up! Overall, the ambiance, food, and service was all very good but I will have to ding a star for the price. Arriving mid-morning on a weekday, they were already bustling. We were able to snag a table for two without a reservation on the outdoor patio. Our server was very friendly, welcoming, and chatty. He went the extra mile to make us feel right at home. Their vibe is down-home-cooking meets Seattle hipster. And it works! Cutlery and napkins are tucked into mason jars, and meals served in skillets are the main event. My chilaquiles were outstanding. I only wish some of the nachos weren't smothered in salsa just because I love to enjoy some when they are crispy. I ordered a small green salad, to offset all the carbohydrates. I found it to be overdressed and soggy. A lighter touch would have gone a long way. My spouse's breakfast skillet was a flavor bomb, bursting with fresh peppers and potatoes, with just the right amount of subtle heat from the chorizo. Even with his big appetite, he couldn't finish his plate. Dishes were priced on the high end for breakfast/brunch but the portions are immense. This was a great stop this morning. Everything was on point. Food was great, beverages good, staff was good, and there was no wait at the time I went. We had a reservation for a group of seven, six of us new to the restaurant. We were seated within a couple of minutes of arrival. It's a cute, open restaurant with a full bar. Once we were seated, our awebwe came to take our drink order and then our food order. The menu had a nice assortment and something for everyone. Once our food arrived, we never saw anyone again until it was time to pay. We all enjoyed our meals, but I would have loved a refill of water. Another issue I had was the added gratuity. The bottom of the menu states that gratuity will be added for parties of eight or more. Our party had seven and the server took the liberty of adding the gratuity. I've enjoyed Skillet since they opened. Portions are huge, service is always great, and this location in particular reminds me of the diversity of the hill and its changes. I often get nostalgic walking past Pretty Parlor, zig zag to hot mama's, walk by the old neighbors, Linda's, and up the hill by the old Globe restaurant to Skillet. It's a zig zag but I have lots of fond memories. My favorite dish is the chicken and waffles. It's a Seattle take which in my opinion I enjoy. The portions of chicken can feed two people or more since my appetite has shrunk and I love biting into the house made waffles. My chilaquiles were huge (more like breakfast nachos); the over easy eggs were well done but the whole thing was a lot wetter (sauce + salsa) than I prefer. I've been to skillet a few times and every time I leave full and satisfied. Their food is delicious for both brunch and dinner. I've tried their salmon sandwich, hot honey chicken sandwich (with an egg) and a breakfast plate containing: eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit (the biscuit was wonderful). My bfs go to order is the chub with a side tomato bisque soup but last time we visited he loved my hot honey chicken sandwich so much he considered switching his future order . First time in Seattle and this was the spot we hit up for breakfast. To our surprise the place was pretty empty for the most part and they were able to accommodate my family of 12 easily. Staff were amazing , friendly and made sure to take care of us as soon as possible. We actually walked to this location because it was a couple blocks down from our Airbnb we were staying at. Best part is it is located just a 10 min walk from downtown ! Now as far as the food , it was pretty good, but I think I was expecting more as far as taste. Amazing brunch spot with classic diner vibes! We showed up at 9am with no reservation with 10 people - probably a nightmare for most places for a Sunday brunch. They managed to accommodate us on their patio (had to take advantage of people being unwilling to sit outside when it was a bit chilly) and got our food and drinks out pretty quickly. It was so appreciated as we were coming from out of town and meeting up with people we haven't seen in a while. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which was delicious. Had an itch for coffee and one of my guilty joys in life - pancakes. Skillet was recommended by a coworker as a must experience and I'll admit, it was a solid stop. I was able to snag easy parallel parking but obviously be aware - street parking. The inside had decent seating, felt small for a restaurant/bar, and we opted to eat at the bar based on how busy it was. Our server was awesome, he was super quick and courteous(to add, we were sat at the far side of the bar in what felt like a different room. There was a break in the bar counter and a second mini bar without a bar tender is what we sat in front of). I went with the griddle cakes which came out quick and were more than I could tackle solo. Mistakes were made . They had a wonderful flavor and moisture without the need of syrup, but, what monster doesn't pour syrup on pancakes. I also opted to have a side of bacon which I wish was cooked just a bit more (I prefer crisp over squiggly bacon) but the flavor was solid. Overall Americans eat too quickly given how heavy the sustenance is and given how the establishment wasn't busy nor full, I would suggest alternate locations for a breakfast meeting to not fell rushed to eat and go. First off I love the support of Pride month :) all the banners outside to represent. My boyfriend and I got there just in time as it got a bit busy after we were seated. It I love the ambiance. How cute and bright it was. A simple yet fulfilling menu. My boyfriend ordered the griddle cakes (which were huge and delicious) and I ordered the chub. I also chose to have a vacation Bloody Mary. You can tell the Bloody Mary mix is homemade and I loved it! The sandwich was awesome and I could taste all the different aspects including the jalapeño aioli. Breakfast potatoes were HOT and big but also tasty. I was very full afterward. The staff was attentive and friendly and willing to answer questions. Granted, this last time I got my meal delivered, but I can't imagine anyone would be bowled over by the $17 "ultimate grilled cheese" in the photo in person or otherwise. I guess if you like giant bricks of bread with a tiny smattering of cheese, maybe it's good? Maybe it just didn't deliver well, but about 1/3 of it went in the trash.
