Have been here 3 different times, One time i had a chicken dish with onions and mushrooms, the chicken tasted old. French fries were cold and hard Another time i had the baked potatoe with chicken fried steak on it. They put way to much cheese on it. OK to be fair I gave this place two star's because I am vegetarian and very biased. Now I know what you're saying to yourself, "Why would a vegetarian go to what amounts to a graveyard for cows?" Here's the thing, there is one thing I love more than tortured animals and that is my mental health. My therapist says I need to socialize more and this place was on the calendar for my weekly Ladies meetup group last week. So after some debating with myself, I decided to attend. I'm not going to discuss any body else's meal but my own. I ordered the dinner salad and they brought out the biggest plate of lettuce with tomatoes and shredded cheese on that I have ever seen at a restaurant. I mean this salad was HUGE. Please take the time to open EVERY SINGLE BOX ... they left out French fries ( with purchase of burger) I called to let them know AND double check that it was included ...and all the said was 'YES'! Roaches. Just no. 3 of us went for dinner. A lot of little mishaps that would usually be no big deal but it was one thing after another. Got an appetizer. They didn't bring plates, so had to wait on that. When they did bring them they brought 2. And then a 3rd. We all got tea. Drinks got low and they refilled them with what we thought was super dark tea but nah, it was soda. They forgot the sauces that came with the meals. I ordered an extra side, never got it. We didn't complain about any of that but this, this I did say something about..a roach crawled across the back of my neck!! The waitress saw and informed the manager who refused to come out of the kitchen. If you can't be there to handle customers or help your staff then delegate someone else who can. Instead, they gave us a number to a lady named Debbie (not sure what that what supposed to be useful for) who never returned a text or a call. We still paid and tipped the waitress but will never go back. You just don't treat people like that...and I don't care to eat with roaches. read more

Finally, after hearing of this place for 4+ years, I have finally made my way to visit some friends on a day trip, go to a UT vs. A&M volleyball game (Go Horns!) and eat a wonderful meal for lunch at Sodolaks Beefmasters. Beefmasters provides a large menu for any person's needs. A southern, cafeteria-feel, homestyle restaurant that brings all people of all kinds to this generous location. The food is excellent, the waiting staff are superb, the atmosphere feels like a southern home, and the cleanliness during COVID was good as well! A group of us went to this wonderful restaurant during lunch time. They had a lunch special for Sirloin Steak, and you choose 2 sides and comes with a roll, for an unbeatable price! Fried pickles appetizer was very plentiful and came with a proper serving of ranch. They were served hot, crispy and not too salty. We opted for the lunch special. It includes a side salad and 2 sides w/ 1 roll. The side salad was mediocre. It wasn't very fresh and the onions and tomatoes came in large round chunks. I had the thousand island salad dressing and it tasted a little "watered down". The green beans were "meh" and I sprinkled salt & pepper to get a little flavor in them. The best part of the meal was the fried chicken breast. It was definitely made when ordered and had a nice crispy texture while still being fully moist. It could easy serve 2, as I struggled to finish half. The seasoning was cooked in and quiet frankly, it was delicious. The meal came with 1 roll and when we requested more, we were told there was an additional charge for each. Overall decent meal. The chicken was definitely the saving grace. Definitely not a "go out of your way" kind of stop... The restaurant was clean, staff was friendly, and the lunch special was a good deal. Good place to eat in College Station/Bryan area. Service was fast, polite and with a smile. Food servings are more than sufficient. They offer chicken, pork chops, steak and many sides. Choosing turnip greens and black eyed peas, I was underwhelmed ( both without flavor, taste straight from can) Rolls are served with " whipped spread", poison in disguise. It has a cool aesthetic with the the unique decor and country vibe, but besides the awesome price the food is just ok. The steak was good and well seasoned but nothing special. It was seasoned and medium the way I wanted it. Thick and juicy. The fat just melted in my mouth. For my TWO SIDES, I got LOADED MASHED POTATOES and BROCCOLI RICE & CHEESE. The sides were more of a (4/5). The potatoes were a little gummy like they were whipped a tad too long. The rice was also a tad overdone so they were a little mushy. Those are just small critiques. The sides weren't the star of the show. The steak was and it blew me away. (4/5): 12 OZ RIBEYE: We got this one medium rare. It didn't have as good of a sear or flavor as the sirloin. Overall the sirloin just trumped the ribeye. At the price point, the sirloin was definitely the better choice. If you prefer ribeye, this was still a really good steak. The sides for this entree was better. The FRIED OKRA and GRILLED ONIONS & MUSHROOMS went really well with the steak. The FREE BREAD is a roll per person. We have always loved this place and honestly need to go eat here more often-- even though it's quite a drive to get here, it's worth it whenever you're craving steak, fried catfish, etc. Their fried pickles and onions appetizers are our favorite- their ranch is clearly homemade too! The little hostess girl with the big blonde bun hair was rude or something else. She ignored that I was in front of her to check in and asked the girl behind me instead how many. I tell her I was here first and there were 3 of us. People sitting already waiting before us all and she takes the also, rude girl behind me and her party to sit. I asked her why her? There were many more to be seated? She says her boss told her to sit them first. Mind you, Hispanics and African Americans were all waiting and she takes the white people to sit. Service was excellent! Food was good too. We (party of 3) got the fried pickles, and open flame ribeyes with the side salad. The fried pickes were great. However, they were a bit too salty (pickles are meant to be salty, so not a big no-no for me). A must try. Steaks were cooked perfectly and tasted great, although the meat had a lot of fat, even for a ribeye. The salad was good too. The sides were all over the place- some great, and some bad. The hushpuppies were bad, cheesy fries were okay, coleslaw was great and the mashed potatoes were good. Our server was really efficient and friendly Went back a week later. I have eaten at sodolacks countless of times and a recent visit was no different but the lord had different places for me and my mom. After a small joke on me not attending church, the owner of the restaurant came and gave us his amazing testimony we so desperately needed to hear. It not only pushed me to start to journey with Jesus Christ but it gave my mom the courage to speak at my aunt's funeral. I just wanted to give them the shoutout they deserve!!!! read more

I finally caught them on a less than busy day (still busy). Portions are huge, salads are nice and cold when they bring it out. A side salad is 299 regardless of your sides Example: if I choose to get a side salad and french fries, I will be charged 299 for the salad and still get to choose another side. I'm not complaining. It makes sense from a business standpoint. I highly recommend the chicken fried steak and the jalapeño hush puppies. Very tasty! Their sweet tea, "slaps!" (I'm not like a regular mom cool mom) I only wish they brought back the mason jars!! Wait staff was a little slow at getting our requests and we ended up leaving without hour to go teas, but she was busy. So I'm not gonna hold it to her too much. I was told that the cat fish was a little dry, my husband's sirloin was well done when he asked for medium, and my french fries were cold and unfortunately hard. While the food was good, I always have problems with to go orders from Sodalaks. . We ordered a sirloin steak dinner, a fried chicken dinner and a chicken fried steak dinner. Two baked potatoes, two salads and a container of extra gravy. This doesn't seen like it should be hard. We got home with it and there were two cold hard potatoes with no fixins- no butter-cheese or sour cream. She even asked if we wanted bacon bits too. The extra gravy was for a family member that has a hard time swallowing and it is used to soften the meat in a food processor. The gravy was left out too. It is never as good when ordering to go. It was too far to drive back, but I called and talked to Amber who told me while they were sorry it was my job to check my bags before leaving and tell them if anything was missing. Funny... I thought it was their job to put what you ordered in the bag.... Really sad customer service. read more

This place is a gem! We came here for lunch (party of 7) and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The place itself is quaint, think log cabin feel. They have funny signs on the walls and plenty of tv screens to catch up on news or sports or sports news. The receptionist quickly noted our presence. Because it was the lunch hour, we had to wait about 20 minutes before being seated. The service was excellent! The menu had a variety of dishes or a reasonable price. It is a family-friendly, casual atmosphere. I'm always looking for family-friendly places that have reasonable prices for the kid's menu. If you have young children, you can definitely take them here. The prices were great too! It is your typical counter kitchen food. You get a decent serving for the amount of money. All in all, for a family of 7, our bill came out to about $60 (this includes kids meals, which were $6 each, this did not include tip). We didn't order any beers, but at this time, they did not have a license to sell alcohol due to some TABC issue. This didn't bother me. We accidentally spilled water and the waitress was so nice and gracious about it. Final verdict: Yes, I would definitely go here again AND recommend it to friends and family. read more
