Ate dinner here after an annual conference. I had the grilled pork chop dinner with fries and turnip greens. The food was good but the thickness of the pork chops has been reduced. I have eaten here years ago and you got two decent sized pork chops. The pork chops I got this time were on the thin side. The flavor of everything was great. My last review was deleted, so I'll leave it again. I believe in full transparency. My family of 3 recently visited this location. We ordered pickle chips as an appetizer and there was a piece of metal served with them. It appeared to be part of the fryer basket, as it looked like a thick metal wire, and was connected to the batter on a pickle chip. Could have been a dangerous situation had my 4 year old picked that piece instead of myself. The waitress was young and seemed very nonchalant when I brought it to her attention. They did comp the pickle chips, but the lack of concern over the situation was worrisome. Please be careful if you choose to eat here. I have now had the privilege of eating at both locations and they both have good food and service. The age of the places and decor set them apart. This one seems newer and has a very Christian theme with bible quotes and "thoughts" on large white boards on most sides of the dining room. Our favorite thought posted on our visit was something like...if God gave you a challenge the size of Goliath then he must think you have a little David in you. The food...we ordered exactly the same things that we had at the Snook location a few weeks prior. We started off with chicken fried bacon and enjoyed it thoroughly until we read the health warnings on a recipe that had been downloaded from the internet. Ha ha! As for comparison. The pieces here were much bigger, yet fewer and the bacon inside the chicken fry was not as crispy. But it was still very good. Next chicken fried steak. One size fits all here and it covers the plate. It's really the batter that covers the plate. The steak itself took up 1/2 to 1/3 of the plate and it was super thin. Still very good and we couldn't finish it. Plenty of delicious white cream gravy too. Now for the sides... Fries -perfect All the way mashed potatoes -gummy Green beans- probably canned but still tasty Hushpuppies- way over done, practically burned Service efficient. Offering refills and providing the check well before we were ready to go. No inquiry as to how the food was or if we wanted dessert. If you would like to dine with the locals then you have to visit this place. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and of course the food. Portions were huge so come hungry and don't fill up on the bread basket. We had the steak and meatloaf. Steak was really juicy and cooked well. The meatloaf was good but I didn't particularly like the canned mushrooms. Otherwise very classic and down to earth. Very, very busy too! Be ready to wait for a table but it is worth the wait. Came here for a family celebration over Ring weekend!! Seems like it's a popular place for families since the place was literally overflowing with maroon. They have lunch specials and the portions are VERY generous. Delicious food for a good price. Of course this isn't a fancy steakhouse, so if that's what you're expecting then this is not the place. It's more of a comfort food and homey feel with great food. We were taken care of and accommodated well. Didn't understand what the big deal about the ice teas were until I had a few sips. Great thing about this is they aren't stingy at all and will pour your refills and give you a to-go cup!! Awesome!! After the first basket of bread, it's 50cents each, FYI. I got to the cashier and the lady tells me They couldn't cancel the order they could either replace the order or make it over I will be charged for something I wasnt Satisfied with. I DONT UNDER THIS TYPE OF Customer service. they both the waiter was and cashier began to argue with me telling me what I was going to do because this will effect the FOOD COST!! if the owner reads this You need to retrain your employee and tell them The Customer is Always right and if I am not satisfied with the product and not even consumer it I should have the right to decline the meal and pay for my drink. Not to be argued with and made to feel like I was the inconvenience and you All Not Take FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. The free bread (one bun per customer) is warm and satisfying as is the salted butter. Any food you order is large enough to satisfy even the hungriest soul, and it is hot, hot, hot when you receive it. I had the catfish nuggets, recommended by someone who assured us that the catfish nuggets were infinitely tastier than the tenders. While I did not try the tenders, I wouldn't argue against that assertion as the nuggets. were. good. A little on the bland side, but they were well-breaded and fried, and the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce that came with made up for any lack of spice. I chose the broccoli cheese and rice, which was flavorful but dismally void of substantial broccoli, and the jalapeno hush puppies were flavorful but a tad dry. My wife and I were seated almost immediately which was great given the people waiting! Our waitress was personable and patient while my "Better half" took a bit perusing their menu so I ordered the Jalepeno Hush puppies. It was cold romaine and radicchio with several red onion slices, a big juicy fresh tomato slice and 2 small containers of Bleu cheese for dressing control which I loved. My main order came and looked perfect! A nice cut perfectly seasoned with salt/pepper cooked exactly medium rare which isn't a simple feat! Since I've transplanted this steak was way better then other restaurants Ive Yelped that were 4X the cost! My side of turnip greens was plain so our waitress suggested a pepper vinegar that improved the flavor and the potato salad suggested was quite good also. My wife said her chicken fried steak was surprisingly very good, whatever that means, and her sides were also satisfying as well! I'd like to make a huge point about this restaurant though that I could not have expected. Our waitress Kilee was PHENOMENAL!! She was on top of everything without being overbearing and attentive, funny and personable which is a quality not easy to find. We ordered The following appetizers: chicken fried bacon, tornadoes, fried onions and jalapeños, corn nuggets. All of it was amazing. For dinner I ordered the country fried steak, fried okra, loaded mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas. When I tell y'all it was soooo good, it was sooooo good. This review would have been higher than this but my family was extremely embarrassed by the staffs decisions. We sat down with myself my wife and our kids. My sister inlaw got off early and asked to join us so we confirmed with our waitress if she could be sat at the end of our table she said yes. So we proceeded to enjoy ourselves and AFTER our food was delivered and half eaten. We were asked to move to another table so we asked why and it was because of the chair at the end of our table created a fire Hazzard which I could see that being an issue but then they just moved us to a booth with a chair at the end creating the same issue. After that another waitress brought me a refill on a drink with stuff at the bottom of the drink. I had not given any reason for this treatment and I will let everyone I know about this situation in hopes they do not receive the same treatment. read more

I'll start off by noting that I don't normally give 5 star reviews but Sodalaks certainly deserved it. 14 of my classmates descended on them shortly after they opened the doors for the day. The staff graciously herded us tables that were set aside for the group. The restaurant featured a luncheon special on the menu with a wide variety of entrees and sides and included the beverage for one price. I opted for the catfish. I expected a couple of smallish fillets. What got was two HUGE fillets that were done to perfection. The sides were on par with the catfish. Service was what you'd expect from a 2 chair table with no one else in the place. Even with the restaurant crowded, our meals came out as close together as they could be, the water and tea glasses were kept filled. Overall the food was great, the service was better. If I find myself back in town,I'll definitely return. read more
