Great spot for a slice of pizza. Close to my apartment, and has pretty nice decor. Setting it apart from other NYC pizzerias. It cost roughly 3.25 per slice. My favorite has to be pepperoni, especially they don't skimp out on the protein. read more

Midtown East pizza tends to be consistently mediocre - not bad, but not very good either. This is a needed exception to the rule. I had two slices, the spinach - sort of a dip -- creamy, but no overkill Artichoke Basile's, and a near perfect meatball slice. The meatball nicely shredded, the sauce and cheese tasty, the crust thin and perfectly executed. My only quibble is the price - $12.50 for the two slices and a can of seltzer. Then again My Pie ain't cheap either. I wish they had a bit more seating. read more

The most underrated pizza shop in Manhattan! Sofia Pizza Shoppe is a hidden gem and every one of my friends who have tried it or live near it rave about how they love this pizza. I'm unashamed to say that I've stopped in here after a few drinks before to enjoy the best Margherita pizza slice of my life. The pepperoni pizza can be a bit greasy so blot it if you can but overall this is the NY pizza you've been dreaming about. read more

Sofia was my go-to pizza shop when I worked in the area. Their pizza was always consistent, fresh, and well-priced. Definitely go in for the lunch special! This isn't the pizza shop where you can sit and eat comfortably, since it is a tiny spot (they do bar some seating though). read more

Sofia's Pizza Shoppe is about as good as pizza gets in the city. The spinach and dip pizza is the only pizza we've ordered in all the times we've come here. Like others have mentioned in the other reviews, Sofia's checks all the boxes for a near-perfect slice of pizza. Thin, but perfectly crispy crust, amazingly bold flavor in the spinach and artichoke dip, and the perfect cheese to sauce ratio as well. A perfect, underrated spot for pizza near the midtown area of the city. read more

Their slices are good but their pies are phenomenal. If you're going to pass by, I definitely suggest calling ahead and getting your own pizza so it's as fresh as possible. Generally, I go with the Vodka pie, but have dabbled in a few of their other options and have never been let down. 5/5 will keep eating read more

On my 1.5 weeks trip in NYC, Sofia Pizza Shoppe's pizza was my favorite. I got myself a pepperoni slice and my partner got the Sicilian slice. A thin crusted slice of pizza in NY is a place of heaven on earth and Sofia's was definitely a stand out. My partner who has quickly become a pizza snob LOVED the Sicilian slice. He commented saying that it was a perfect balance between saltiness and sweetness. I don't know what else to say aside from the fact that it was pretty frikken good and the guys working here are really awesome. I look forward to coming back for many more slices the next time I am in NY. read more

Hands down they are slinging out quality pies and rolls. I know you may only coming in for a slice, but the meatball roll is a star on its own. I would highly recommend adding this to the order. As for pizza, I tried both a NY style thin slice and a thick Sicilian one too. Both were delicious. The sauce was great! No sugar added either, so the ingredients get to shine. I can't wait for them to deliver in a larger radius because I would love to get this close to the UES. The staff is friendly and efficient. They keep things moving so you get your food quickly. I can't wait to go and try some more pies soon. read more

I live just off 1st Avenue, so any place on 1st Avenue within spitting distance of an SBS stop is already a draw for me. I love vodka sauce pizza, and I looooove curled up pepperoni, so the photos enticed me even more. When I saw Adam Kuban (Margot's Pizza) posting multiple instagram pics at Sofia, I prioritized it, and went after work on a Monday. I can't believe it, but I was a little disappointed. I started with the pepperoni slice, which felt really bland to me. I moved on to the vodka sauce slice, which was better, but didn't pop either. The crust was really nice and thin, but I didn't think the flavors were strong enough. It is obvious they use good ingredients, so I think reheating a slice isn't doing it any favors, and ordering a whole fresh pie might yield better results. read more

This was really good -- not quite best in class for me, but a really high-quality slice place. We tried a bunch of different slices -- the classic, vodka, pepperoni, spinach dip, and margherita -- and while we really liked them all, our favorites were the vodka and pepperoni. (The spinach dip was probably my least favorite -- I wanted to love it, and I get why people do, but it was just so incredibly heavy. Possible I'd appreciate it more if it was the only slice I was eating.) The slices were crispy with pretty good structural integrity, and the sauces were really good -- not my absolute favorite, but definitely somewhere in the next tier. read more

Easily my favorite pizza place in the area. Yeah, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. In this case, immaculate crust, perfect sauce, and rich, flavorful cheese. The spinach dip pizza is a crowd pleasure, but the Classica is a paragon of the classic New York cheese slice. I order delivery from here probably once a week through Slice, and they are always fast, or at least on time. Pizza is always hot, too. read more

Pizza was ok. I think I came at an awkward time as it wasn't super busy and it looked like the pizza had been sitting out for awhile by the looks of the cheese. I tried two different types, one was a regular slice, the other a rectangular thick slice (not sure what the restaurant calls them?) Both were good but not anything to write home about. Anyways, mostly the 3 stars are because the guy at the counter was probably the rudest person I've encountered in NY this far which is impressive because this isn't exactly a warm and fuzzy city. He acted like I was inconveniencing him to order food. Not sure why a restaurant would have this guy deal with customers, he's definitely more of a back of the house fit. Food isn't good enough to counteract his jerk attitude! read more

Being a NYorker and one that is obsessed with Pizza, I am a bit of a pizza snob. Embarrassed to admit, but after a run I was craving pizza and didn't know where to go on my run home. Looked on Yelp and found this gem of a place. Ended up not going with the spinach dip piece (which I kind of regret), but went with a pepperoni slice and meatball slice. When I tell you both where so good, they were SO good. They were both perfectly fresh, cooked and topped well. Also super affordable for better quality pizza. Inside was a bit small, but I was able to sit down and eat. Had a nice open window concept, so it opened right to the outside. Highly recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood. read more

Small shop but really phenomenal pizza. I got the square pizza because I read on Time Out that it was the best and I wasn't disappointed. I went with a simple pepperoni because it's a good way to judge a pizza joint. Kate got the thinner crust option with spinach and it was also fantastic. I'd like a slice now! Finally made my way over here after hearing all the good things and was not let down! Tiny little shoppe but super cute and of course, delicious pizza. Got two slices of the spinach dip, only qualm being that it was a little more expensive than I expected ($5 a slice) but so so delicious. Will be back! read more

For as long as I can remember i have said the best basic slice shop for a NYC slice was Joe's on 6th and Carmine. It very well may be the case that the reign is over. I would need a side by side comparison, but this is the first time in my life that I have ever even thought it was possible. Sofia is great. Go there. Ignore the lack of seating and the high price tag. Buy and consume pizza. Feel free to thank me afterwards. read more

This place is seriously bomb. I don't even know if the pizza was fresh from the oven because it was displayed in the window and it didn't seem there had been much traffic but it was still really delightful. Got the spinach one, a little on the heavier side because of the dairy but not to much that it made me feel sluggish. The open window to the street was really nice too. read more

Finally a place in New York that has New York Pizza, I mean real New York Pizza. I would recommend the spinach and artichoke Pizza as it was the most phenomenal slice I think I may have ever had. Nice modern slice pizzeria. Gotta support that. I liked the vodka shroom slice the best followed by pepperoni, then spinach. The spinach was hefty, totally justifiable for the price. The pepperonis themselves have thin diameter and thick depth, the little cup pretty salty. And the vodka was thin unlike more creamy versions that you usually see. Nice to sit in the window if you can get the spot. read more

Sofia Pizza is flanked by umpteen other pizza shops, and it is easy to miss. Ignore all of the others. This is exactly what you are looking for. Though a small physical space, there is barstool seating if you would prefer to eat your pizza while it is fresh. I 100% suggest the spinach dip pizza. It really is as if they just poured globs of delicious spinach dip on top of the pie. You can even use your crust as a pseudo chip! read more

Deliveryman refused to leave pizza because our building's policy is a porter brings it up and he had to wait for a minute for payment. The manager apologized and said he'll send it right back with a new person. That was 2 hours and 3 more phone calls. (With further false reassurances) We ordered from here once before-it's passable. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character.
