I really wanted to love this place. I read the reviews and decided to try it for myself and bring food to share with two other people. The service was friendly and timely. The fragrance of the food smelled amazing. Sadly, food was barely edible... beef was very hard... some pieces almost like jerky. The rice was undercooked (dry and hard) and the gentleman I gave it to said it was the worst rice he's ever eaten. His wife ate two bites and I threw away almost all of the food on her plate. 50%-75% of the food on his plate went into the trash. I ate mine. I didn't want to make a mess in the kitchen. I was tired after a long day. I agree with one of the other reviewers that the hummus tasted unusual like sour cream. (And yes, I believe it was made with a different bean than a garbanzo but I generally enjoy hummus made from any kind of bean.) I hope that chef, owners, staff can make positive changes to the food. They seem very nice. This is 1 of 5 restaurants in Ramona I've tried, and it reminds me why I make my own meals at home. read more

Dry and tasteless chicken and beef served with more concern given to control food cost that impress a new customer. Rice was dry and hardened. Salad was uninspired with minimal dressing and the pita was so over toasted it was difficult the break into pieces. It is always nice to support new businesses in town and help our local economy, but not at the expense of value and decent quality food being served. Just travelled to Ramona, From Chula Vista, and stopped at Sofie's Pita for something quick. Man, did I make a GREAT choice. Ordered a Gyro, on recommendation from the person attending me (Super friendly gentleman). It was incredibly delicious. I ordered the combo and even the fries were really good. The place was nice and they had AC, which was perfect for this heat. Definitely recommend it. read more

The man that works there with his wife fat-shamed my partner as we were ordering, which is a great way to repel customers....I then asked for to-go boxes since we didn't want to be there anymore and he made a sexist joke about needing a new wife if we're leaving because the food was bad. One thing in food service that I can't get past is food safety. We walked in and the kabob meat was rotating without the heater being on. As much as I wanted to absolutely love this place I just couldn't love their food. I got a dinner plate with both gyro and beef shawarma (I couldn't make up my mind) with rice and salad. The salad was not full pieces of cut lettuce it was shredded almost like they ran out of salad and used whatever extra they could put on my plate to fill the order. The dressing was bland and possibly non existent but it was hard to tell because the lettuce was wet. The beef shawarma was dry. And was not cooked fresh unfortunately. And my rice was prepared in the microwave. The pita bread was good and the Taziki was yummy. But overall I was completely underwhelmed and let down by this place. read more

I ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich from the menu. It was served in a flour tortilla, which was unexpected and weird. I assumed it would be on pita or at least flatbread. I couldn't get over that. The chicken was spiced well, but dry. It came with lettuce, tomato, onion and a garlic sauce-all good there. I wish they would change to traditional pita, i would try again, but I'm not up for the tortilla. read more

We read about the Sofie's Pita grand opening in the Ramona Sentinel and were eager to try Ramona's first (?**) Mediterranean eatery...and boy, Sofie's did not disappoint! We ordered (via take-out) a variety of items for five people, including a vegan, a couple carnivores, and a child. Everyone gave a 5-star rating! Specifically, we ordered the falafel sandwich (A+); the chicken shawarma sandwich (A+); a combination plate with falafel (A+, very generous portion; feeds 2); the tabbouleh (A+); grape leaves (A+); french fries (A+), and hummus + pita (A++). All eaters thoroughly enjoyed their eats. Needless to say, we will be back to re-order our faves from the list above and to try their desserts, the tzatziki, and the gyros. After our first visit, Sofie's is already on our official go-to list of weekly take-out eateries in our small town (alongside Pinto Thai, Marisco's, and Mamma Ramona's). **A previously unfulfilled food genre here in town, we might now have two Mediterranean cafes...We look forward to trying Ramona's other new Mediterranean spot, Cedar Rose.
