For me they are simply the worst Internet provider on the planet. As far as I'm concerned they are thieves. They charge a huge amount of money and we never ever get what we pay for and there is never anyone available to help. I can't tell you how many times we've called and they're closed or they're busy or when we finally get through the person or the other and has no idea what they're doing. If you can find anyone else that will offer you Internet for the love of God do that. read more

one of the only businesses where you can pay $350 a month with promises of 50/3 mbps up/down, and in reality, get 3/1 mbps up/down on a good day. A good network should only have to have its router reset a dozen or so times a year. Without exaggeration, I reset the router maybe a dozen times a day, and it still doesn't work. I can have a single bar of LTE cellular, and still get a better connection than I get with Softcom. Their troubleshooting is worthless. Their most expensive plan with their most expensive equipment is worthless. Our wifi has been out for several days now, and I'm not even surprised. If you stream on two or more devices, even the most expensive plan is worthless. And the worst part? They get away with it! If you are using Softcom, you probably live in the country, so they can restrict your usage and jack up the prices as much as they want with soft limits, and long response times. I live out in Lodi past Harvey and have tried many internet providers. None can compare to Softcom they came out 3 years ago and gave great service. This past week our net went down since all the trees etc keep growing but our tech Shawn did a great job in explaining the process and got me back up and running with a better connection! We've had Softcom since the dial up days and they were always top notch. Always recommended them. Customer service was the best. The last few years it's been hit n miss. These days it flat out stinks. Can't even stream one movie in the house let alone two people on the Internet at the same time. We don't even have smart appliances or gaming systems. Have spent hours on hold to speak to their techs with no changes. Asked them for a higher plan but they can't do that because they've maxed out the tower. Really?! That explains why the internet stinks now. The tech on the phone said moving to a higher service wouldn't make it any better anyways. How can that be?! Asked them to point us to a different tower if they can't seem to get us to where we can use the Internet reliably and for fees they will but they can't say if it will be any better. Sounds like wasting more money to them for nothing. The only option is to have unreliable service or nothing. When I explained that they are expensive and that not having the service I pay for was ridiculous they said they would gladly shut it off. Or maybe you could FIX IT for a very long time customer! Of course they don't want to fix it so they can sucker someone new in and make more money on all the start up costs. It's really sad that Softcom has sunk this low. No reliable internet. Internet cuts out like crazy, company blames it on my 400 dollar router instead of coming out to fix the issue. Suppose to get 1.5 and 6 Mbps and I am getting 700 kb and 4.5 mbps on every testing site except Softcom's. This place is a racket for people out in the country, their lowest service is 4 times slower than tethering from my iPhone and for 100 dollars a month, yikes. I have to say that some of the low reviews about Softcom bother me and are due to a lack of understanding of what this Carrier provides to the rural community. Because WiMAX and Point to Point wireless broadband requires a line of site from your residence to their tower equipment, bandwidth and performance will vary greatly. Trees, hills, Even Oils in the air produced by Eucalyptus trees!! can affect connection and bandwidth speeds. I live in Rural Wilton, and yes there is only 2 options out there. If you understand what goes into providing a customer wireless broadband, you would see that this carrier is not only providing a much needed service to the rural community, but as a small business they are a savior in disguise for those of us who run businesses in the country. The wireless broadband technology is changing all the time and Softcom is embracing that technology and will be upgrading their systems as it emerges. Mark my words! I have been a Wilton residential customer of Softcom for 2 years now. I agree that the wait times for tech support are long, but they are a small business providing a service comparable to the big box carriers with just a small business headcount...patience!! I have to say that the customer service is rock solid. Yes I have had fluctuations in bandwidth, but I understand and accept that based on the technology that is currently in use and it just comes with the territory. If you want 50mb with no latency or down time, move to the city and get a fiber connection, if you live in rural Galt, Herald, Wilton, etc....well...accept that you have chosen to live in the country and appreciate what this company is providing for us out here, the alternatives are few. One more note of Kudos...I have had the pleasure of personalized service from a lead technician, Dan who originally installed me 2 years ago and has gone above and beyond in troubleshooting bandwidth issues for me on a couple occasions and I want him and the team at Softcom to know it does not go unnoticed. The worst ISP ever. In 2010 they received a 6.8 million govt. stimulus grant that just lined the owners pocket. Total crooks. I have been stuck with them for 10 years due to being in a rural area. They never deliver the speeds but are happy to charge you a higher rate for them. They charge $5 per month per email. Continual outages and resets. Never ever expect them to accept an error on their part, billing or service. I would continually have outages and would have to call in and magically it would work after I sat on hold for an hour to talk to someone, but it was never a problem with their system. I have never received a billing credit any time they have made errors or not delivered. They send flyers out with towers on a map that do not exist. read more

This is the worst internet company you can possibly get the only reason I use it is because I had live out in the country and my son cannoyget gaming with other internet providers their customer service department is horrible you are put on hold for 45 minutes or longer at a time you cannot speak to a supervisor I have been told that my problems have been my router my power plug it cetera etcetera..sooo I bought the new equipment thinking that potentially the problem was on my end only to find out my own equipment was perfectly fine and it was a waste of money and time I brought in the router which they hold for 24 hours I came back and it still is not working they finally have admitted there is a problem but cannot send out a tech for 2 days currently I've been without internet for 12 days I am a nurse and need access to patients sensitive files at night that could potentially be life threatening situations and I have no availability of the Internet these people have a very poor service do not use them unless you absolutely need them read more

I have had softcom for 6 months. I was told I would get 6 mb Download with 1.5 upload. I received 6 MB download for 30 Days. Since thin I have received less then 1.5 MB download and .2 upload. I call customer service and all they tell me is that it will cost more money to get the speeds that I was told I would get with new equipment. Customer service is horrible. The woman I talk to was rude, did not understand why I was upset and just told me the options that would cost more money. When asked about a credit for my service that I have not been receiving, she told me she is not allowed to, to contact corporate via email. I have sent emails to corporate and have not received any response multiple times. How is that for customer service. read more

It was very difficult to find a reliable internet service provider in my area. I then luckily found Softcom and I've had no issues. The Internet is reliable and also faster than my previous internet. I was also able to purchase my own router. The antenna installation was also simple and quick. I would recommend to anyone living in the Lodi/Lockeford area. read more

Sold my house and moved away, called to let them know and was told they couldn't close my account and would continue charging me a monthly internet fee without the outside antenna and inside POE recovered. I Informed them I no longer live at the house and have no access to the home and no contact information for the new homeowners. Was instructed by customer service there was nothing they could do, even though there was no contract signed between both parties and only given an email address to their corporate office to try and fix this issue. Multiple times during the conversation customer service requested that I make an appointment allowing them access to a property I don't own anymore, which is illegal. When asked for proof of a signed contract or anything else stating my agreement to the "terms of service" I was denied. Sorry SOFTCOM, you cant keep charging someone every month for internet service they 1)requested to be cancelled 2) have no access to anymore. You can charge them for the equipment but continuing to charge for internet service is illegal and will get your business recommended to BBB. Your policy works fine if you want to just cancel softcom and aren't moving but its as low IQ as it gets when it comes to people who have moved away. I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH SOFTCOM AGAIN, luckily my bank blocked their ability to auto draft future payments from my account.. read more

The main problem with Softcom is their bandwidth. For $60/month I got 2 Mbps down. I switched to cable and now I get 50 Mbps down (between 30 and 54 on the various testing sites) and it costs only $40/month. No contract with either service. For those of you who are not comfortable with technical statistics let me explain that with Softcom I can barely stream a show or movie on Netflix without the show "buffering" - i.e., pausing to download more data. If two people want to watch a show at the same time, they're out of luck. With my cable provider three people (and probably more) can watch shows simultaneously while another person is playing a game online. No problem. The difference in service is dramatic and very noticeable. Also, the customer service is not very good. I've experienced long waits on hold and the technical people have very limited days and hours. If your service goes south on the weekend you have to wait until Monday to fix it. The last straw was the offer that currently appears at the top of this page. New customers can get 3 Mbps for half the price paid by current customers. So, faster speeds at half the price - albeit only for 3 months. It was a slap in the face for existing customers. On the positive side I will say that the service is reliable. I only had one outage in the year or so that I was a customer and when I was able to reach the technical people, they got me up and running pretty quickly. Also, if your only alternative is dial-up or satellite, you might find this the best choice in a sadly limited field of choices. They simply aren't ready to compete with cable or DSL at this point. read more

Worst business ever. I was a customer for over 15 years out of habit them decided to change to AT&T for bundling my services. Had a heckuva time canceling due to an imaginary contract they said I signed, plus their phone lines are always busy or no one is available to help. Once I was able to cancel finally, I returned my equipment and they still charged me for service. Still waiting to get that payment returned to my bank account. I was a customer since about 1996. We finally decided to bundle and change carriers, so I cancelled my account starting the next month. Well apparently, even if you pay for the entire month, you only get your service until the last weekday of that month. So if the end of the month falls on a weekend, you no longer have service and they closed my account. I wasn't able to send out a group email to tell everyone of my email address change or save some of the emails I wanted to keep. Disappointing. They should have told me when I cancelled that was their policy. When I called to complain, not very receptive. Will never do business with them again. read more

Not a good internet service provider! We've endured over three years of spotty internet connection (sometimes hours) and whenever I call Softcom, the phone rings several times, during regular business hours, before anyone answers. Many times it's a recording telling me to give a rave review on Twitter. Serious?! Or the receptionist puts me on hold f o r e v e r. I've been down there, more than once and that place is empty! Where is everybody?! Technicians inconveniently have limited hours. (They must have other jobs in the side). We recently upgraded our service to the "Ultimate" package (paying more money) hoping to get a little more online time. No such luck. There was no difference whatsoever. I suggested that possibly my "mast" (that dish on a pole they put on my roof) needed to be raised higher since it depends on line-of-site to receive the signal from their tower in Galt. Trees grow taller and could be blocking the signal? Oh no, he says, you need to go to your "box". Yeah, been there and done that -so many times before. Plug and unplug, buy a new router (last one was over $400. for the "most powerful one"), replace the ethernet cable. Finally I ask, why?? Why does getting internet service require all these technical exercises and purchases?? Softcom never offers to send a guy out to look at it AND when you get the brand new router (twice now), you have to go to Galt and personally deliver it to them to "configure" it, but only overnight (won't do it the same day) so that it involves two trips. What's with that?! It's probably a 5 minute procedure. There is no sense of urgency to please the customer at this place. Why should there be, they have a monopoly on the market for people living in the country. I recently became familiar with another provider in Linden who also handles homes who are in the country. I will be looking up their reviews. Hopefully it is not the same as Softcom?! read more

Our Softcom service was installed yesterday and it's the first time in the 12 years that we have lived in Wilton that we have fast reliable wifi.
