After making a last minute decision for sushi at Soho, I wish I would have walked to the river and paid $50 for someone to catch me a bluegill and eaten that raw. Haven't found a spicy tuna roll I haven't liked until this weekend. To compensate for an overall lack of flavor, varieties of mayo make a thinly veiled attempt to cover their unremarkable signature rolls. While my rolls were bad, the only bright spot was the simple tuna sushi that was about the only really edible thing on my plate. Wouldn't recommend to a friend. read more

We went in on January 7 and we were promptly seated and given water. It kind of falls apart from there. We sat for about 10 minutes before we were finally able to flag down the server and let her know we wanted to order an appetizer and drinks (tea) while we waited for the other three people in our party. Our tea comes out, mind you it's a cup of green tea and not a pot at the price of a pot at any other really nice sushi place, and then the rest of our party arrives. When our server returns to get everyone's order, we find out that they do not have a liquor license and thus no one can drink. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU TELL SOMEONE BEFORE SEATING THEM! So the other three people are immediately unhappy and had we not already ordered an appetizer we would have given her $5 and left. We opted to stay and order even though the people joining us had joined us for drinks. When our food came out, the server dropped it off and walked away. We assumed she was leaving for a plate for my curry. My rice was in a small bowl and the curry was in a single serving chafing dish (bowl that has a candle under it for heat...it was connected together), and there was no room in either dish for the other food. When we realized she wasn't coming back, I told everyone else to go ahead and eat and after a couple minutes I was able to flag her down and ask for a plate. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ASK FOR A PLATE! She brought me a small plate you'd give someone for sharing an appetizer. Best part is, I never got silverware, so I have to use chopsticks to eat green curry and tofu with rice....off an appetizer plate! When it was time to leave I asked for a to go container, because I hadn't made much progress in my food. She brought one, but still didn't give me a spoon or anything to assist in moving the curry over. As someone who spent years in the food and beverage industry, we opted to still tip decent even though the service was awful. It will be a long time before we even consider going back. They have a LOT of work to do still from a service standpoint. read more

Hands down my favorite place to get sushi! They're quick, delicious and have great prices! My favorites are the avocado roll and the sweet potato roll! The crab Rangoon is also super good. Very friendly staff, clean restaurant and great location in the middle of downtown. read more

I tried the pad Thai ... MIND. BLOWN! I had no idea I had been missing out on such a delicious dish! I usually get the spicy cali roll how I was convinced to try it! I ordered lunch here this afternoon and was so impressed by the quality, accuracy, and lightning speed of my meal. I think it was delivered in literally 20 minutes, crazy!! Since this was my first go-around with Soho (and there is a $15 minimum charge for takeout), I decided to order a little bit of everything: side order of fried rice, crab ragoon, and sushi. Everything was fresh and better than expected and I have plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. As previous reviewers have mentioned, I do wish they had descriptions of their food online. Fair sushi, but def not the best I've ever had. Mixed it up yesterday and ordered sesame chicken instead of sushi. After a few bites, it was in the trash. Must have gotten old chicken because it was as hard as a rock. Restaurant itself is dark and dank. Wait staff isn't very personable and service is lax. Time to shop around. read more

We had a great meal -- all five of us had sushi and some even had another dish . The Pad Thai was very tasty -- just the right amount of heat! We had a birthday and our lovely waitress surprised us with a small cake and even music! The staff were so helpful. Don't think twice about the "other restaurant" that was there before. I met up with my sisters for some Sushi! Server was quite comical, Patio seating, Sushi was all 1/2 price and delicious. We ordered 8 rolls all together and it was less than $30 each, this included Saki and beer. Food was great, bathrooms were clean and everyone was very friendly. Order was delivered by a very rude delivery driver who yelled at us for not calling and specifying that our apartment was on ground level even though I left a note in my GrubHub order. I got a spicy tuna roll which had so much tempura in it that I couldn't taste the sushi. It was disgusting. Not to mention that I ordered sushi that is not supposed to contain gluten because I can't eat it. Half way through my green dragon roll there was a very rotten peice of eel and I had to spit it out and couldn't eat the rest. Have been ordering from this place for the past year. Ordering online was easy, and I have no problem with having to pay cash for delivery. They arrived quickly (about 15 minutes before the estimate), and the delivery person was very polite. With the charge for delivery I was a little taken aback by the fact that he did not offer change, but rather just assumed it was a tip (it was, but that is not the point). The crab rangoon I had to order to make the minimum was tasty, but the miso soup had less flavour than the instant packets I use at home and I was utterly unable to tell which roll of ground fish (GROUND fish?!?) was salmon and which was tuna. The crab was fairly obvious, but of a consistency I have never before witnessed and hope to never again. All three rolls I ordered were listed as "spicy", but only one of the ground fish rolls was anything like spicy. I'm glad I tried, and I may try again for other food, but I'll definitely skip the sushi from here on out...which is rather sad for a restaurant whose name is Sushi. read more

Ordered delivery for dinner last night! They said over the phone it would be 45 minutes until my meal arrived but it got here in 20! Very pleased with the service and food. We saw the XO story on the news and how bad it was prior to Soho Sushi. Rita the new owner's televised interview pursuaded us to try Soho Sushi at 58 Monroe Center NW. What a delightful experience! Service was attentive and pleasant. The dishes were marvelous! We had the Seaweed Salad and Smoked Salmon Skin Salad. Also the Salmon "Summer Roll" and the "All In" Roll. Both were absolutely divine. Fresh, fresh, fresh Salmon! Great tastes, melt in your mouth and artfully constructed sushi. We ordered a second round with my wife having the "Spicey Scallop Roll" and I having the "Spicey Salmon Roll" this time. We drank their wonderful Thai Iced Tea. The restaurant was tastefully appointed and faultlessly clean. I urge anyone in the Grand Rapids area to give this restaurant a visit, you will be impressed with the new management and superb food.
