Panang Curry is served and stays hot in the metal serving dish so it's awesome presentation and tastes mildly spicy and sweet. The mixed drinks are all fun and they have some with a great blue tint! This restaurant has a great location in the heart of downtown, but it's not my favorite sushi destination in Grand Rapids. I've gone here three times for their half-off sushi special on weekdays (can't pass up a deal like that!) but the quality was just OK. The rolls I tried were all pretty similar and basic. I wouldn't go here for a classy dinner date as the decorations are a bit tacky, and the food is average. Don't get me wrong. This place is not bad, and the deals can't be beat. There is a variety of sushi options in Grand Rapids, though, so whether you'll like this restaurant just depends on your preferences. If you're not a picky sushi connoisseur or you're just looking for basic rolls at an affordable price, this place might be the right choice. If you're looking for a fast, tasty and affordable sushi place downtown but aren't looking to dine in, try Sushi Yama across from Rosa Parks Circle. If you're looking for some more interesting rolls downtown and you aren't concerned about ambiance, try Ato Sushi across from the Amway Grand. We were excited for our NYE dinner from Soho Sushi, as this was our first opportunity to try this restaurant. And this will definitely be the last time we eat here. After unpacking our food, my wife bit into her first bite of her spicy tuna roll and found a piece of plastic. I started on mine and on the second bite found a large sharp piece of plastic in my spicy tuna roll that cut my mouth. This unfortunate discovery tainted the remaining meal and I am pissed that we spent $84.66 on a meal of Russian Roulette with the uncertainty of finding more plastic in our food. Not sure if Stevie Wonder is working at SS making rolls, but this is incredibly poor quality with low standards to allow food to leave a place of business with plastic shrapnel embedded into someone's meal. So after many more decent-to-good range take out orders from Soho (again, still the only Japanese place that delivers in my area and still the best Asian place with a delivery fee that doesn't change based on time of day/amount of drivers), I did finally go to the actual restaurant! Service was really prompt and everyone was really friendly. I could tell a couple of regulars came in while I was there from conversations that were had, which was nice. Some things were better fresh, like my beloved chicken katsu. Some things were actually the same, which....surprised me. I thought the sushi rice was dry on one of my early deliveries because I ordered delivery and it was a sweet potato roll, so I decided to just not order sushi through delivery. When I dined in and the rice was still dry and almost crunchy with both egg and a piece of fish? That was kind of concerning. But I've never been super into Soho for their sushi anyway despite their name, so it was less a bother and more a confirmation. 4 stars is for full dining experience, as long as you don't get the sushi (which i mean, if you do, that drops it down to 3 stars I think; the food will not make you sick but sushi rice is supposed to be soft). read more

Walked in on a weeknight and wasn't expecting much but super surprised to find out that it's HALF OFF all sushi rolls Mon-Thurs! Really? It would be hard for me to believe that the quality would be there but at $6/specialty roll, why not? Boy was I wrong? I'm gonna say this is the best bang for your buck sushi deal in town. I would have not ordered if I knew this was the old XO because I never liked XO, but apparently this has totally new owners. Delivery was way early which was a plus. Sushi could be chilled maybe but otherwise I enjoyed it. I'm not super adventurous so I got the California Roll and I also don't eat sushi super often so I'm not a great judge of quality. It seemed like a pretty good price for the six rolls. I believe it was $4.25 for six. They called to confirm the fried rice was an upcharge which was a nice touch but for the price of the sesame chicken 11.99 and with the only difference with the fried rice being a little soy sauce and egg it seemed excessive. The sesame chicken was not my favorite. I didn't think it was bad, just not the style of Chinese food I enjoy. I would reorder sushi but probably not the Chinese dishes. Service (over the phone) was friendly. My personal enjoyment was more like a three but I think for some people this food would hit the spot. read more

Extremely disappointed! Food was horrible & tasteless. We ordered chicken pad Thai, tofu pad Thai, & vegetable hibachi. Our pad Thai was 99% noodles. My husband searched for the smallest pieces of chicken & I found 5 pieces of tofu in my dish. I ordered the Vegetable hibachi with fried rice for my son and he would not even eat it because it was dosed with pepper in the vegetables were raw. Only things that were decent were the spicy crab roll and the edamame which still wasn't my nearly as good as something from Mikado or Sushi Kuni. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the wide variety in the menu. They offer Thai, sushi, teriyaki, udon, and chinese dishes. I was skeptical they could pull off making that mix of food well, so I tried their thai massamam curry to see how thai at a sushi joint tasted. It was a little bland which is why I gave four stars, but who orders thai at a sushi joint anyway? It was decent, but I tried my husbands fried rice, steak, and gyoza and they all had exceptional flavor. Great location and fast service for a downtown bite. I went here on a Wednesday night and we were the only people in the restaurant, which usually isn't a good sign, but I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Lots of good options of both food and drinks. They have traditional American drinks but also interesting Asian drinks as well. We ordered a speciality roll and a handmade roll. Both were tasty and aesthetically prepared. The service was great, but then again we were the only ones there. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, the only complaint I have is that he wasn't very knowledgeable of the menu. He didn't have much input when we asked for recommendations or to explain what something was. He was very sweet but it would have been nice if he was more knowledgeable on what he was serving. I have been very reluctant to post a review for Soho. But today was the 5th time in a row that I've gone there and have received both excellent service and excellent food. I had the Thai Basil fried rice and a spicy crab roll. First, the crab roll... it was well proportioned and had great consistency. It did not fall apart at all after being dipped in soy sauce which is something i cannot say for a lot of places. It also had great flavor and the little crunch they add makes it very easy to eat a bunch at once! The thai basil beef fried rice was next up and it seemed like this time they added more egg! Yum. I love egg in my fried rice so that was a bonus. They've also settled into a good rhythm as far as the cut of beef and cook style. Long thin strips loaded my plate. And the rice was perfectly cooked as well. Very enjoyable. Lastly, the owner lady seems to be getting more bold and talkative. She has a warm, inviting, gregarious personality and its pleasing to be in her company. I've turned the corner on this place and can recommend eating at this restaurant. Welcome back! read more

Soho Sushi is located in a great area of Grand Rapids, and their half off sushi deal on weeknights is absolutely fantastic. The prices were not bad at all, and the sushi and crab Rangoon's were delicious, as was the hot tea. The only downsides are the music that was playing were a bunch of weird covers of popular songs by the same girl, and it was repetitive and odd. Also, although there is alcohol on the menu, they do not have a liquor license, so alcoholic beverages are not actually an option. Would definitely recommend. read more

This place had awful service. Upon seeing me, the waiter asked if I was Russian due to my "big nose." At first, it seemed like just a feature for identification, but it quickly became clear that he was mocking me. After telling him my actual ascendance, he continued to identify me by my "big nose", rather than asking for my name. He left the table, came back, and referred to me as "big nose man" or "guy with big nose" or something along those lines. He proceeded to laugh at me regarding my facial features, and at that point, I walked out. I haven't dined here yet, but I ordered delivery for dinner tonight. Like a lot of people (I assume?), I was a little apprehensive of ordering food from the former XO Cuisine. But I have heard that Soho has different owners, so why not give it a shot? I ordered the Yaki Udon, vegetable version, and I added on black mushrooms and steamed tofu. I also ordered the sushi sandwich. Yaki Udon? Delicious! Large portion, but I love the add on options. They were perfect for me. Sushi Sandwich surprised me...it's good! When I first saw it I was skeptical, but upon tasting it I realized I judged too quickly. Delivery driver was fast, efficient, and respectful. ( I felt really bad when I didn't catch his bow until it was too late. I feel so guilty for not bowing back! :P) Okay so the one downfall I caught tonight is their online menu. There are currently no descriptions for most of their dishes, so I couldn't' order any sushi rolls because I had no idea what was in any of them.
