Sol Inka - formerly under the name Marios - is a family favorite Peruvian restaurant in the city of La Mirada. They have a good menu selection including some well known dishes like Lomo Saltado, Arroz Chaufa de Carne and Ceviche. Most dishes range in price between $10 to $16, which is very reasonable for Peruvian food and the portions are large. My recommended dishes are the Tallarin de Mariscos, Tallarines Saltado de Carne, Picante de Mariscos, Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos and Chicharron de Calamar. 9 items are on their $9.99 Lunch Specials, including some of my favorites just mentioned. The seafood dishes, in my opinion, are the way to go. The seafood fried rice (Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos), in particular, is very comforting and gives you a myriad of aromatic, umami flavors of the sea and earthy spices. Moreover, you can share the dish with one other person. I am just not a big fan of fries with my meat dishes because they get soggy. Especially soggy fries that get hard. My suggestion is to order any meat or seafood plate with either long pasta (tallarine) or fried rice (arroz chaufa) instead. Any dish with a vinegary base, tomatoes and citrus juice just had too much acidity and tartness for my liking. I was not impressed at all with the Ceviche, for example, which is Peru's national dish. The atmosphere is loud and there is generally a wait to be seated if you do not call ahead for reservations. The interior, Peruvian artwork aside, and vibe is that of a familiar diner style restaurant. Overall, Sol Inka remains endearing to our family and local residents because the prices have remained reasonable, the portions are very generous, service is good and they can accommodate large parties. I also do not want to overlook the fact that there are a few solid dishes as well. Note: their flan is absolutely delicious! I was able to sample some as a birthday treat and strongly suggest ordering it as a dessert entree. The bread rolls are soft and chewy, very addicting. And there is nothing quite like washing down your plate with a glass of Inca cola. read more

I needed a restaurant that was near the La Mirada AMC 7, and this Peruvian place popped up. It's located off Imperial and Santa Gertrudes, next door to a Mike's burger, across the street from a Grocery Outlet strip mall. Upon walking in, the place is dark. We thought they weren't open, until we saw the hostess walk toward us from the side of the restaurant. The exterior looked like it used to be a Coco's or Carrows, and the interior reflected it. There's plenty of space, enough to accommodate a large party, with nooks that looked like it belonged to a family restaurant. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant, and promptly asked what we wanted to drink. Our drinks were brought out, along with warm rolls that were just a tad sweet like Hawaiian bread, and the special green sauce that is famous with Peruvian food. We didn't want leftovers (since we were going to the movies) so we split the Tallarin Saltado de pollo, basically Peruvian chicken chow mein. The spaghetti noodles were in a vinegary-soy pepper sauce, stir fried with tomatoes, onions and meat. The flavor was spot on, but the meat was a bit crispy... not sure if its overcooked or recooked. The check came to $17 and change, which wasn't bad for 2, but a bit pricey for a plate of noodles. I'd stop here again if I needed a dinner option before the movies, as the AMC is 4 minutes away. read more

This place has very inconsistent hours of operation! Now we always call before driving over there because on a number of occasions we drove over there and they were not open! In the meantime we found another Peruvian restaurant that is closer and actually better than Sol Inca. I gave them a good review years ago for their great food, but not anymore. Sad. read more

Since we're only doing takeout for the foreseeable future, we didn't know how that was going to change our Sol Inka experience. Luckily, it didn't. Same huge portions to feed an army and they're practicing a lot of precaution during the pandemic. They have a few tables outside on the parking lot, however, they're limiting capacity to only one person at a time into their lobby to pickup and pay. There's also 6ft markers on the sidewalk to keep things organized during the lunch and dinner rushes. We always start our meal with the chicharron de calamar which is a heap of fried, crispy calamari served with a side of their delicious salsa criolla. For mains, it's the tallarin saltado de pollo (noodles, chicken, and veggies) and arroz con chaufa de camarones (seafood fried rice.) As stated previously, the portions are massive and they don't skimp on the proteins associated with the dish. Unfortunately, they're not doing bread with their orders, but when they offer sit-down service again, it's one of our favorite parts of the meal! We'll continue coming back. Best to call your order in ahead of time to limit the amount of time you're waiting around to retrieve it. They do have delivery options via some of the popular apps too! read more

This location used to be an alternate location for LA's Marios, which was great. However, that location closed. Sol Inka ended up taking over. They must have kept some of the recipes because their food was equally as good. I tried the pollo saltado. I like their version because it is not too wet. The couses are big so bring your appetite. My review is based on my takeout experience as I have never dined in here... I was absolutely content with my order of lomo saltado. This was actually my first time having Peruvian food and I was very happy with my plate. I got the lomo saltado which comes with rice and the lomo with potato, tomato, and onion. Everything was so flavorful. I liked how the tomato and onion was big enough to take out if I didn't want to eat it. The only thing I would change is the beef to potato ratio. I wish my plate had more beef in it and less potato. Also, the plate comes with some green salsa which is delicious but on the spicy side. The price was reasonable given the generous portions served. Don't know how many times I brag to my friends about this place. Probs my fav Peruvian restaurant in La Mirada. First experience with Peruvian food was at Mario's in LA, then I realized this place & Mario's were the same thing with different names! To get to the point: Saltado de Mariscos is super flavorful and service is great! Their yucca fries and fried seafood platter are the best appetizers I've ever tried. (Although it's hard to go wrong with fried foods honestly.. amirite) Though they are most famous for their signature dish, the "Lomo Saltado", I enjoy their wide variety of fresh seafoods. My go-to seafood dishes are the Saltado de Mariscos and Picante de Mariscos. They won't disappoint! In recent discovery, I found that Parihuela, a tomato-based seafood soup is also quite ahmaaaazing-! All in all, what makes this place a 6/5 is their special green sauce which brings magic to all their dishes. Tip: ask for extra spiciness in any dish and they will put extra jalapeño pepper slices in them! Spread that green sauce on your rice, meats, seafoods, veggies, and anywhere that can use some magic! A co-worker told me about this Peruvian restaurant so I visited for lunch and was delighted to find it to be both authentic and delicious. The interior is bland and casual; they don't seem concerned about hitting you over the head with Peruvian decor so no giant photos of Machu Picchu on the wall or stuffed toy llamas sitting at the hostess station. I was immediately seated and Siomara, my waitress, provided superb service throughout my lunch. I ordered a Peruvian staple - lomo saltado - and a chicha morada to drink. Complimentary rolls were brought to the table, fresh and warm. Chicha mirada is a favorite beverage in Peru. It's made by boiling purple corn and adding clove, pineapple, cinnamon and sugar. It's always homemade so no two chichas taste the same depending on how much of each ingredient you mix in. This one was excellent although I couldn't detect even a hint of cinnamon. Initially I thought it odd that they don't provide free refills but once I saw the size of this drink I immediately knew it would be a challenge just to finish this one. Lomo saltado looks so simple on the plate but it's not as easy to execute as it looks. I've had plenty of mediocre ones. This lomo saltado was excellent, one of the best ones I've had outside Peru. The beef strips were tender, seasoned perfectly and, along with onions and tomato, sat atop a bed of fries with a mound of rice (again, perfectly made) on the side. This is the lomo saltado you will find in mom & pop shops throughout Peru that make you shout "Sweet Hosanna" with every bite. Impressed with my meal I decided to give dessert a shot and ordered the alfajores. It's two crumbly butter cookies with caramel slathered in-between and powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The first time I had one was in Peru while stopped at a toll booth where a middle-aged woman was selling baggies of them. I've always just had small ones, not much larger than a quarter. When you order dessert here you are presented with very large alfajores (maybe 4 inches in diameter?). It's not too sweet and again, very authentic. You'll end up with powdered-sugar lips. And in my case, powdered-sugar chin too. Although I only had a few items here they nailed each and every one. Based on my food experience and the great service it's an easy 4.5 stars. read more

It's still the same flavor as the Mario's Peruvian in LA (because it was started by the same people) and you just can't find that anywhere else. It was busy during the time we dined there . Is was full of customers and people were having fun. We ordered chupe de Cameron , chicarron de calamari and Bistec ala chorillana. The foods were so fresh and delicious. The chupe was interesting and different. It's tasted and looked like the curry in different forms. The broth was good and it cooked with milk, potato and shrimp no wondered it was good. Chicarron de calamari was fresh and yummy. Overalls, the dinner was satisfactory. The services were extremely friendly and courteous. This place has a very good vibe . All the foods here were authentic and well represented. I was a little worried ordering food during Covid19 because of the yelp reviews saying they didn't put enough beef in the to-go orders. BUT it was my husbands bday and he really wanted Peruvian food for lunch. Placed my order, 3 lomo saltados and 1 beef fried rice. WOW I was blown away at the portion size. I came for lunch and it wasn't busy but there was only one server attending to all the tables with the help of the hostess. The hostess said that we could sit anywhere we wanted and brought over menus for us to take a look at. My coworker and I shared the fried calamari and the lomo saltado. I called the manager which was not there, and the lady AGREED that the plate did not looked anything like what I'd oder and the chef sprinkles water on top to make it soft!! seriously!!! I couldn't even eat it. The waitress that helped us removed the plate offered us to get a new plate but I didn't want to . I want to make it clear that the ladies that work there are friendly and great service.
