I used to come here 3 years ago and loved it. The servers made you feel like family the food was hot and fresh, but not it has a very depressing undertone. The servers arnt happy anymore. I'm not sure what changed maybe it's management. The food was also different it wasn't made with love anymore it was just slapped Ona plant lacking the flavors it had before and platting skills. I visited this place over the weekend and left with a very disappointing impression after witnessing the way the owner treated his employees. I saw her yelling at them in front of customers and even making some of them cry. Let me say first that I really enjoyed the potato tacos. Everything about it was delicious and a unique dish. But I couldn't relax and enjoy my food. They literally had the TV on so loud that I had to yell at the bartender for her to hear me. I stuffed some paper in my ears to help muffle the sound. Food and service were mediocre. My meal arrived cold, and the eggs were overcooked and dry, I had specifically asked for over easy, so the yolk should have been runny. When I asked the waitress to have them remade, she chuckled and asked if I wanted one or two eggs replaced since I had already eaten one, which felt unprofessional. My son's burrito was also underwhelming, with mostly rice and very little meat. On top of that, the utensils were dirty and still had food stuck to them. I took my nephew to take his behind the wheel test at the Whittier dmv and since he passed I told him I would treat him to lunch. La casa Del cocinero wasn't too far away and when we came in there was a band playing on the stage (they were great). The waitress was very friendly and funny. She made us feel right at home. I ordered a blended strawberry margarita, queso fundido and a molcajete. The food was all amazing, the salsa was so good I wanted to take some home. They have homemade corn tortillas. There's plenty of seating and they have a full bar. Next time I'm going to come for breakfast to check out their huevos rancheros. read more

I'm glad I found this place. I was shopping next-door with my dad. We saw this place and we were in the mood for Mexican food. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by two hostesses with the most beautiful smile. We felt so welcome. The waiting area is beautifully decorated, but once we walked inside it was amazing, I love the way it's decorated all around. Our server Natalie was amazing she welcomed us right away brought us water she asked if we been here before we said no, she prodded to explain the menus to us and recommended some plates, through our whole stay. She was very attentive to us. The prices are reasonable. The food is amazing the plates are huge, come hungry or be prepare. To take home left overs, the homemade tortillas are to die for so yummy. The margaritas are great just the right amount of alcohol, the horchata is awesome my Dad could not get enough of it. If I could probably make a suggestion serve the horchata in the blue water cup the plastic cup does not look appealing, it would be great for a kids meal not for an adult. Other than that thumps up on the horchata. I order the chicharrón in red salsa & my dad order the costillitas de puerco also in red salsa omg!! They were finger liking good, just the right amount of spices not to hot & not to milid just right, the costillitas had. Lot of meat in them. We haven't been here since Covington. A lot has changed. There is a hostess stand in the entrance, someone came to greet us immediately. We were seated, a waitress came right over and brought chips and salsa and menus. A few minutes later she was back to take our order. I don't eat a lot and asked if I could order from the kids menu. She responded, yes. I ordered an enchilada plate, my husband ordered a giant burrito. Our food was out within 10 min. As I was getting into the burrito, all I saw was rice, lots and lots of rice, a little bit of onions and cilantro and small bits of Carne Asada. I kept eating and hoping I'd get to the carne asada, that did not happen. The burrito had such a small amount of meat, I'm saying, maybe 1 oz of asada for the whole burrito. Extremely disappointed. So basically I paid top dollar for a rice burrito. Plus, absolutely no beans ‍ So our instincts of not going to this place was accurate. Will we go again, chances are slim, more like a NO. Plus, because we were part of a group over 8 people, they charge US...customers, a $5.00 fee. That confused me, was that automatic tip for the waitress or is that their standard practice to charge groups of 8 or more a fee to be in a group? I'm thinking, hoping it's an automatic tip for the waitress. If not, it's unethical to charge customers for being part of a group. Just got back from having dinner at this location. Hubby and I checked hours of operation before heading out on yelp which read 10pm. As soon as we arrive we are informed by the hostess the place will be closing at 8pm, strange thing is the dodgers were Playing on the big screens, people were enjoying the game, so we're They going to kick everyone out? I've witnessed the new owner of this place mistreating employees multiple times. I spoke with some of the staff, and they confirmed it's under new ownership -- and unfortunately, that's when the problems began. The new lady owner is rude, controlling, and prepotent. What really broke me was seeing a server crying -- and this was the second time I've seen that happen here. Employees told me she constantly disrespects them, and there are even claims that she's withholding their tips and other money they've earned. That's not just wrong -- it's abusive and possibly illegal. I won't be coming back, but I'm also not staying silent. This is one of our go to spot for decent Mexican food. The restaurant is usually bustling and festive with a great bar and drinks surrounded with TV monitors displaying sporting games. The severs are very good, attentive, and always making sure all our needs are met. This was no difference tonight, we had an exceptional waitress. The food here is good, it's authentic, flavorful, and most dishes we've tried are very good. So, walk into restaurant, hostess/waitress talking to someone. She sees me, ignores me, keeps talking away with person. I proceed to walk to a table, then she stops me and asks if I wanted a table. She walks me over to a table, tosses the menu on the table and walks away without saying anything. I wait patiently for a while, she never comes to drop off a water or chips. We decided to visit this location because we were craving pozole and tacos. It's a great spot with a lot of potential to attract customers, the aesthetics inside are warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the customer service fell short. When we arrived, the entrance area gives the impression to wait to be seated, yet, no one was there to assist. A gentleman eventually noticed us, kindly directed us to our table, and brought our drinks, chips, and salsa. Up to that point, things seemed promising. After that, however, the experience kept getting worse. The restaurant had about 5 tables over all with families. It was pretty slow. We waited at least 15 mins or so with our menus open in front of us, yet no one came by to take our order. There were several servers that walked by and an older woman who seemed to be the owner, but not one person stopped to check if we had been helped or to simply ask, "Are you ready to order?" The final straw was when a couple who arrived way after us were seated, received their drinks and chips, and had their order taken, while we continued waiting. At that point, we decided to leave. We let the gentleman who seated us know we hadn't been helped and wanted to pay for our drinks. He kindly comped them, which we appreciated, but by then the overall experience was very disappointing. This restaurant clearly has potential, but the staff would benefit from customer service training and stronger attention to guests. In today's competitive environment, good service is what keeps customers coming back. A little awareness and care would go a long way here. read more

Food is pretty amazing and authentic! In the weekends they serve their menudo and posole with handmade tortillas. They have a dish called " Molcajete " it's a heated in the oven lava rock bowl with layers of salsa, melted cheese, chorizo, carne asada, grilled chicken ( choice of shrimp) with grilled cactus. Side of rice and beans, handmade tortillas. You need to try La Casa Del Cocinero and I'm sure you'll find 1,2,3 or 10 dishes on the menu you'll enjoy and find delicious. Doesn't come with guac, sour cream, or cheese like other places. TSP is waaay better. The rice was hard and didn't have much flavor. TSP is way better and fluffy. They only gave one tostada for the ceviche. What do I eat the rest of the ceviche with? Good: Ceviche came fresh and was filled to the top. This is the best Mexican restaurant in La Mirada and surrounding areas. The food is made fresh to order. They make their own chorizo. They have hand made tortillas. Everything I ate was impressive and just kept getting better and better. Service is outstanding. The staff is friendly and had a good attitude. The bar is really sheik and makes it perfect to sit and order refreshing cocktails. It's nicely decorated. I will definitely be back. read more

My wife and I decided to give this place a try today; sadly, the high point was their red salsa, which is excellent. First, we got there after the normal lunch hour, and although there weren't very many tables occupied, service was really pretty slow. I got their chile relleno and tamal plate, wich came with rice and beans; my wife got their birria burrito. She felt her burrito was pretty good; the bite of meat I had was moist and tender, but lacked the depth of flavor I have found in most birrias. When my plate arrived, the rice was barely room temp. The flavor of the pork tamal was pretty standard, but while the masa was moist, it was pretty grainy, and there was hardly any meat inside. The chile relleno batter was soggy, and thin; the chile had very little cheese, and had not been cored; it was mostly core and seeds. In an area that has an abundance of good Mexican food, from taquerias to nice sit down restaurants, to serve food that's just 'ok', especially at their prices, is not a good plan. read more

We were in the area shopping and found this place while looking for a burrito to eat. Turns out it was happy hour. We ordered happy hour nachos and mulitas and a carne asada burrito and a soda from the regular menu. The beans taste homemade and the red salsa was spicy and tasty. The margaritas were pricy in my old school book but they looked tasty. The $2 discount wasn't enough to get me to order. Overall, all the dishes were fine, with the Queso Fundido being the star of everything we did order. It is also quite a popular dish, as you will see tables ordering it all night long.
