A total low-key spot one wouldn't have big expectations on (traffic on the street goes by so fast you can blink and pass by this place). But found this place on yelp since I was driving from OC to the office and needed lunch. Love Peruvian and strangely have never ordered heart before so decided to do it. Wow why haven't I ordered this before? This place has tender flavorful ones. The owner is very personable. We used to love this place. Went often for the Anticuchos. I understand the pandemic has affected the business, but.....come on. The owner is usually talkative and upbeat. Sometimes grumpy but today he was just out of it. He barely spoke a word. We were served reheated anticuchos and pansita. My husband couldn't stomach finishing it. And the last straw was that he gave us used napkins! They looked ok from the top because they were folded but once opened I see crusted food and lipstick !! Gross! I always crave Peruvian food wherever I go! Good thing while I was in the La Mirada area this one popped up. I came in on a weekday afternoon for lunch and there was NO ONE there. The owner was sitting at a table and watching the TV by himself lol he was such a funny man. Environment - there's parking in the back if there aren't any parking spaces in the front. The restaurant itself is not that beautiful looking.. it's rather a hole-in-the-wall. But that's what makes food more "legit" and delicious right? Well anyways, there wasn't any air conditioning on but the owner/cook was very nice and placed two fans directly at our table. The decor is very cultured and I love it on the inside. Service - the owner/cook was working by himself that weekday afternoon and he's from Peru. He stated that his family was in the restaurant business and that's how he got started. He came to America and started this restaurant 18 years ago. He was so nice and I am a big fan of his personality and character. Food - legit all the way. The food was freshly made after we ordered. Lomo saltado and pollo saltado - nothing short of amazing. Although the rice was slightly hard, the overall dish was desirable and yummy. We ordered milanesa chicken, lomo saltado, tallarin saltado, and sweet potatoes. All the dishes were good... the milanesa chicken was tasty but it would've been good with some sauce on that plate. Overall it was a little dry because it was served with rice and french fries. The portions were filling and the price is affordable. For dessert we ordered the lucuma ice cream. No idea what it was or what it tasted like, but we wanted to try something new. It kinda tastes like pumpkin... grainy powdery texture. Oh my friend ordered the papaya juice? I just moved to this neighborhood and was craving Peruvian food. (Lomo Saltado) On a whim, I decided to try this place and I'm so glad I did! Since I used to live in LA, I've been to a few great Peruvian places. But I seriously think this is the best one I've been to. This restuarant is a bit homey and a little bit hole-in-the-wall, which I do like. The owner Mario is Peruvian and heads the kitchen. The entire staff (including his son) are also Peruvian. We came one time here and was closed, so I try again another day , since I just move to Norwalk this was the closest Peruvian food available near my house , so the day we Finnaly went there there was this big guy who recieved us , he was a little loud and in a little attitude , when we were ordering he didn't like that I change my mind of what I wanted to order , he was rushing us to , at the moment I tough just leave , but in another way since was first time there I wanted to see if he compensated his bad customer service with the food .. The food I have no complain had great flavor , I think the guy , who's name is Mario it just doesn't how to interact with people, but later he was on us to make sure our food was good ... When I first moved to the area I tried this place, and it became the go to spot whenever my parents were in town. The owner and his family are the sweetest people. They don't have aguadito on the menu, and there was a day I had a bit of a cold and stopped in to see if they had any, the owner said they didn't have it on the menu but to come back in an hour and they would have some for me, I said it was fine and he kindly said it was no problem...I went back an hour later and he gave me a small pot worth of aguadito and it's kindness like that that makes a business worth coming back to. The owner of this place Mario is an absolute joke when it comes to customer service , he will make you think you're doing him a favor by eating at his restaurant. HE'S RUDE AND VERY DISRESPECTUL towards customers. He yelled at my partner for asking for a clean cup of coffee and threw it while cussing in front of us (yes I'm not making this up) Seriously if you're a grumpy old man you shouldn't be running a restaurant. One of the great pleasures about living around where I live was the fact that there are some options for Peruvian food. I didn't start paying attention to it until I googled places for a Peruvian ceviche around L.A. Wouldn't you know it in there are at least four places within 5 miles around my place and there is one just down the street from me. It was a stroke of a good luck in that I need to hit it up. The place didn't looked very much. Outside it had a red and white fence surrounding what it looked like a converted house turning into a make shift restaurant. Outside of the restaurant has some very vibrant colors, but the inside looked very dimmed and pale compares to the exterior of this place. The ambiance didn't looked very good. The tables were sticky, the walls looked it needed some new paint, and it looked very messy when the tables doesn't get cleared. Doesn't look good so far, but it brightens my mood a bit when I talk to the what it looked like the owner of that place. Very jolly of a chap and probably a bit puzzled why I came in (for the ceviche of course!). After a few talk, I was able to ask him on what some of the best or popular dishes his customers like to order. For the easy part, I was able to coax him into what some of the favorite dishes people liked to order. The restaurant's ceviche consist of what many considered in many of Latin countries as the seafood salad. The boss man wasn't sure if I could handled the seafood salad of ceviche, so he wanted to demonstrated to me on what was involved in that dish. He let me taste test this before I take it home. What a sweet guy, but he knows I was going to be satisfied with that. Let me tell you, I have tasted only few ceviche before and I had to admit this was one of the better ones I have been able to get. There are bigger names like Mario's Peruvian restaurant that is just down the road from here (and in West side of LA), but I had to admit this ceviche from Anticucheria was one of the better one I had ever tasted. This place gets me started on loving dish of ceviche. Hopefully there are many more places in LA that I can find this lovely seafood salad. The place may like a hole in a wall or a dive, but it's an awesome find for me for a place so close for a beef heart and ceviche. For a day, I am a lemon lime raw seafood connoisseur. read more

if there's one thing I love it is Peruvian food. After visiting Peru I grew very fond of Anticuchos and cerviche. Most Peruvian restaurants do anticuchos, which is grilled beef heart, but few do it well. This tiny hole in the wall joint is hands down my favorite Peruvian food establishment, outside of my own kitchen. When you come here, order the specialty - the anticuchos, or marinated beef heart skewers. You'll get a serving of choclo and papas (corn and potatoes) with the skewers, and I completely recommend washing it all down with some house chicha morada (tasty corn drink) and I must recommend that you ask for the aji to spread on your potatoes and the tender meat skewers - trust me, you won't be sorry. The aji is mildly smoky with a sweet little kick to it that everyone I know finds irresistible. The other thing I like ordering from here is the Papa a la Huancaina, a potato dish served with hard boiled egg and a creamy cheese sauce. When I'm in serious need of comfort food, this is the stuff, baby! Weekends this little place boasts a breakfast menu that I've heard is really good, but I haven't tried it yet. Oh, and if the phrase 'beef heart' scares you, man up and give it a shot - you'll be very pleasantly surprised. Parking is best sought on the street, and is very limited. This hole in the wall place is close to my new job. It looks like a family owned business and they offer the regular Peruvian fare. I have tried the Lomo Saltado and found it to be good. I will return and try the Tallarin Saltado. The parking is poor. Located off busy Pioneer Bl. It hard to find if you drive by too fast. This review is coming from a yelper that appreciates trying different cuisines BUT has never really tried any Peruvian restaurants before. I have a Peruvian friend and have tried their home cooked food on several occasions, but that was so long ago that this was almost my first encounter with Peruvian food after all these years. I stopped by during lunch time with a couple of people I work with, and the atmosphere was definitely very welcoming. The owner himself came by and explained the menu very extensively. There were many options and we were having a tough time deciding what exactly to get, but we ended up with two lomo saltados, a tallarind saltados, and tallarind con bistec. I'm not a fan of onions at all, so I ended up getting the tallarind verde- which is essentially noodles made with spinach. It was really good and though the noodles were a bit soft for my liking, the overall taste was undeniably "greens-tasting" which was a nice touch. The aji sauce was amazing and I literally drenched all of my food in it because it adds just the right amount of flavor in EVERYTHING. I'm usually not a huge fan of beef, but their steaks were cooked very nice and tender. Delicious! There was another sauce that was filled with green onions, and I'm not sure what it was but it was definitely much spicier and added a good kick to our food! I'll definitely be visiting this joint again whenever I'm in Norwalk, and the fact that it's a local mom and pop shop makes me want to support the business even more.
