I spoke with a technician today and was not happy with the way he was 'coming across'. He was abrasive and unprofessional. He has never been to our house, nor has he ever inspected our pool/spa area. When I was asking questions concerning the coping and what it entails, he abruptly said unequivocally, that ALL the waterline tile would need to be replaced. My understanding was that, coping does not automatically mean all of the existing waterline tile MUST be replaced. There are situations where removing old coping damages the upper tile course, or where deterioration of the bond beam requires enough demolition hat replacing tile becomes sensible. But that's something a contractor should determine AFTER INSPECTING THE POOL, not treat it as an automatic rule for every coping job. A company that hasn't even seen the project and makes demands like these, is one that I would never hire to do a project for me.

Joe tested our water with the strips and told us our levels were unsafe and not to swim in it. He sold my mom some powders and told us to come back the next day to test our water again. We came back the next day and it was a different gentleman. He tested our water in a machine, took a picture of it with my phone so we would have record of the numbers and gave us more advice and told us to bring another sample tomorrow. Once again we came back with a water sample and he tested it in the machine again. He told us that the water needed liquid chlorine, but since we had been such troopers, he gave us a gallon of chlorine for free. We asked when it would be safe to go swimming again and he told us within two hours of pouring the chlorine but we could go now "If we wanted the carpet to match the drapes". I was appalled and had to explain to my mom what that meant when we got in the car. I told her we would NOT be going back. We took our water sample the next day to a different pool supply place which tested our water and we showed them the pictures of the machine at Sun Pool and Spa and he noticed that their machine wasn't working correctly because it had a orange triangle at the top in the picture. We had to drain the pool and we are starting over fresh. Women, beware....

We researched a bunch of different pool companies and asked for quotes and we went with La Costa Custom Pools. The scope of work included remodeling our waterfall feature, installing a new water slide, upgrading the pool control box, adding a salt cell system, replacing all pool lights, repairing cracks and chipped concrete, and repainting the trim around both the pool and spa. From start to finish, the craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. Communication throughout the project was exceptional. We were consistently kept informed about timelines, next steps, and any adjustments. On the rare occasions when work had to pause due to rain, we received clear notice in advance. We never had to guess what was happening or when crews would arrive. Cory managed the project closely and made sure everything stayed on track. He brought in Bob, a master pool structure builder from Great X-Scapes, and along with Peri, they built an incredible waterfall and water slide that not only look amazing but are clearly built to last for years. As with any remodel, a few minor issues surfaced after completion. The trim paint began to chip due to a product issue, and there was a significant leak from an old pipe nipple in the existing pool setup. In both cases, Cory and Bill responded immediately. The entire trim was redone without hesitation, and the leak was repaired quickly and properly. That level of accountability and follow through speaks volumes. The project was originally quoted at around two months, and they completed it in just over one month without sacrificing quality.
