With the warm weather approaching I decided to try having solar screens installed in a couple of south facing rooms that always get very warm in the summer. My research led me to solar screen factory with their excellent reviews! They are a local business that makes their screens in Las Vegas and warranties them for 10 years! I was very impressed with their response time, and within 24 hours I had an estimate and measurements were taken. After being produced, they were installed within a few days! Communication throughout the process was excellent. We were able to choose a frame color which would match the house exterior. They have been in place for several days now in the midst of an unusual heat wave, and so far the rooms have not been any cooler based on the temperature sensors in each room. The rooms are slightly dimmer inside but not remarkably so. I did opt for the 90% blocking screens which is the highest they offer. I will continue to monitor how they perform during the warmer months and see if there is any change in room temperatures or the electric bill. It could simply be that the strong Nevada sun in these southern facing rooms is just too much. I am still very happy with solar screen factory, however, as they were great to work with during the installation process! read more

What a great family run company. When you have this kind of operation, you feel the love. From the initial consultation (and the invite for home made enchiladas is still out there) to installation...it was a seamless process. What really set them apart was after it was all said and done, we had a bad storm that had some hurricane strength wind. A single sliding door screen came off (it actually held on and I had to finish taking it off). I called, shared a photo, and their response was not to worry...we were covered and they would be by to take new measurements when the weather cleared up. Well, we just got the replacement installed and it looks great. After James explained it to me, I can understand why this piece was in danger to begin with. I highly recommend these guys. We had artificial turf installed in our backyard and our landscaper inexplicably neglected to mention the possibility of turf burn. Our beautiful, perfect turf was just sitting there in the intense sunlight, blissfully unaware of the danger lurking above. Sure enough, a few days later, a patch of turf had burned due to reflection from an upper window and it was recommended we get window tinting or solar screens. Window tinting sounded like a major hassle (and expense), so we decided on solar screens. We found Solar Screen Factory on Yelp and the experience was great from start to finish! Everybody that we dealt with was friendly, polite, and professional. Since they knew our turf was in the ongoing process of burning, they expedited the project. James came out quickly and measured our backyard windows (didn't even need a ladder for the upstairs windows because he already knew the measurements for our new build home!). He showed us the samples to choose from and answered all our questions. He gave us a fair price for the 90% UV blocking screens, which includes a 10-year warranty! They made our screens over the weekend (they have in-house manufacturing) and a few days later James showed up at the promised time with another gentleman and they quickly and efficiently installed our screens. We love the added bonus that it's a little darker and cooler inside the house, but most importantly, the turf is safe now and can be fixed. I cannot stress enough how awesome it was working with Solar Screen Factory! I called on a Saturday and James was able to come out for a quote and show me samples on the same day! We went through each tone of screen and frame and I ultimately decided on black screens with white frames. He was patient as I was choosing between 80% and 90% screens and let me take my time to decide. As an ex-Californian, I hadn't had solar screens before and I was super nervous about them making my house too dark but the samples helped me a ton. I chose a mix of 80% and 90% screens and I couldn't be happier! From the outside I have privacy and sun protection, but on the inside I can see through them and still have tons of light. Great service and turnaround time. We had screens installed on one side of our house and they worked so well, our landlady had them put on the rest of the house. In terms of energy efficiency, you can see from our power bill that our September usage was less than half of what it was last year. At this rate (and the Las Vegas heat), you can see that the investment will pay for itself sooner than later. Two pieces of advice: 1) The 90% screens are VERY effective and can make your interiors darker than you'd expect. (We have to turn lights on during the day in some rooms.) If you're looking for a less dramatic change, go with the 80% 2) Make the investment to have your windows professionally cleaned (outside at least) before the installation. While the new screens can be removed for cleaning, if you can avoid it by cleaning them beforehand, do it. If you time it right, have the window cleaners leave the old screens off and it'll save the installation crew a step. read more
