Total Nightmare. We've been waiting 6-months for a ground mount solar install. They promised there'd have it complete by December 2019 so we could take advantage of the 2019 solar rebate before they go down - we don't see that happening. Design and permitting were painful. They had to resubmit to the county twice. It's like they don't know what they are doing. Nothing but surveys have been completed on my property. I know now I should have gone with a different company. Consider someone else for your solar needs. Update: Feb 2020. Scheduled install late Feb. We'll see. Good experience with the company. PetersenDean installed an 18-panel 4.95 kWh microinverter system on my cement tile roof about 3 months ago. I was one of the first systems that their San Diego crew installed. I purchased the system with some nice financing that they set me up with. I chose them over 2 other companies because they use quality components, they had a competitive price (not the best, but within a grand) , they offered the best financing, and the company has been around for about 30 years (which means they should be around in the future if I ever need warranty work). The financing they offered (third party lender, but they heavily subsidized the rate) was amazing for a solar loan. 2.99% 12-year loan plus 12-month same as cash for the portion I will get back next year in federal tax credits. I couldn't find any other company that could offer below 7%. Not sure if they're still offering these terms, but you won't do better if you want to do the loan route. Communication was good overall. Project manager and salesman (Aveline and Jeff) both promptly answered any questions I had. The few problems I encountered during installation (example: inspector suckered them into making a hole in garage drywall for who knows what reason) were remedied quickly. It would have been nice if their engineering department had been able to get their plans to me earlier (took them 4 weeks). That way, I could have submitted the plans to my HOA for approval so that we could have finished the project by the end of 2014 to get the tax credit a year earlier. read more

Here's why I would recommend not doing business with this company. The owner of this company has radio ads which boast their extensive experience claiming to have built 1,600,000 roofs.( One million - six hundred thousand) since 1980. This would mean that they have done 112 roofs per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, for 39 years. I suspect that this figure could be inflated. If they have actually accomplished this , then they would require thousands of workers, working 7 days a week. I would argue that the workmanship would be compromised, at the very least. Based on other reviews here, it appears the service is strained. I would not do business with this company, based on the claimed level of expertise. read more

While we were very excited to start the process of getting solar (which also included a new roof), it was not at all the experience we had hoped for. Prior to hiring Peterson Dean we met with a few other companies to ensure we were making the best choice for our home. We were very impressed with our sales person and decided to move forward. When we purchased our home only two years ago we had a horrible experience hiring a large company that sub contracted out for work. We did not want to make that mistake again and were assured that PD housed all their contractors and we would be in good hands. Flat. Out. Lie. When the roofing project started months later (our scheduled time kept getting pushed back due to rain which is understandable) a team of random roofers arrived at our home. I was shocked and concerned when I did not see a fleet of PD trucks pull up. I almost sent them away as I was sure they had the wrong house. But alas, they were there to rip off our roof, which they did, on a Thursday. Sure enough the inspector that was to come out on Friday had to reschedule for the next week and it was to rain that weekend. Lucky us. The roofers laid a protective layer of tarp in an effort to keep our exposed roof dry. As the rain set in we started to have leaks throughout numerous rooms in the house. I immediately called our contact at PD and they came out to try and assess the best way to keep us dry through the weekend. While we greatly appreciated the help we received, the bottom line is the sub contractor clearly didn't know how to do their job. Throughout the entire process they were unprofessional and we were left with extensive damage to our home. The following weeks were a nightmare. Roofers coming out to repair water damage and put on a new roof, leaving trash all over our yard, relieving themselves in plain view of our home, nails and other materials left on the ground, poor communication between their company and PD...and that was only the roofing side. Add in the workers coming in to repair the damage done to our home and you can imagine how frustrated we felt. Not only did we feel misled by the sales person but completely vulnerable as we were at the mercy of a number of different companies other than the one we hired...PETERSON DEAN. The only silver lining was the fact that the Peterson Dean employees did their best to make sure the fixed all the errors the subs left behind. We do appreciate their help and making sure our home was restored to what it was prior to the damage. The issue still remains, why use sub contractors that are a negative representation of an excellent company? Why spend so much time cleaning up messes left behind from poor workmanship? Why mislead customers who put their trust in a company upon hire? When the roof was complete, the ceilings cut out, attic dried, drywall replaced, paint redone, skylight and gutters replaced (damage was only found after my husband started to check after the workers left each day, they never mentioned they broke things), driveway power washed (oil stains from work trucks), stucco repaired we were finally ready for solar. Sub contracted electrician came out, redid our panel in preparation and unfortunately put too much power to an outlet in our kitchen which caused our appliances to catch fire. Thankfully that was the extend of the damage and not our entire house. However, it was yet another disappointment on a long list of our personal experience. Once the wiring was fixed, panels installed (finally by Peterson Dean and not a sub contractor) we were DONE. If we could go back and do it all again, we would absolutely go with a smaller company who controlled every aspect of the work. Had our sales person been completely transparent we would have taken that into consideration and made our decision based off accurate information. Not simply telling us what we wanted to hear or manipulating the truth to benefit sales numbers (apparently they do control both the roof and solar aspects in some cities, just not ours). We are thrilled that our project is done and we can move forward. However, we are rather uneasy about the 25 year relationship we have singed on for with PD...fingers crossed it works out. read more

We thought we were going with the best since they offered extended warranty and more years in business then their competitors but were disappointed with the process. Here is our list of frustrations: Poor communication between sales and project coordinator costing delays in installation Change orders that resulted in 50% increase in cost of re-roof No contingency for a certain amount of boards to be replaced as part of base price, everything becomes additional cost Time delays- in other words failure to timely schedule solar to immediately follow roofing- there was a week delay between the 2 installations Failure to take correct pictures for submission to DWP on 1st attempt, it took 3 times of re-take if photos to get a green light So here's the update: The job is done, and #Peterson Dean estimate on output of the solar panels has been on task and we are Now getting the benefits. Kyle in Customer Service was awesome he listened patiently, found solutions, and follow through on Commitments. Well we have been with PetersenDean for a while now very happy. We added a few more panels to cover the jacuzzi and air conditioner again very happy. Unfortunately with this big rain there was a leak let me get to be fixed thank goodness they're also roofers. It was their conclusion that one of the feet of the panel made a hole in the roof. Peterson-Dean, AKA Solar4America, among other names installed a new roof and solar panels on our house in 2019 for $27,000. The roof leaked during the first rain and they sent people out on two different occasions to repair it. After the second visit the leak was supposedly found and repaired but It is leaking again and no one at Peterson-Dean/Solar4America or Solar Juice is willing to take responsibility for properly repairing the roof. read more

Truthfully, we were so excited to start work with PetersenDean after our initial consultant came to the house. However, after recognizing quite early on their sales pitch was filled with lures to get you to sign on without actually delivering anything they promised, I wish we would have made another call and gone with a different company. They were late to start, and albeit we understand rain delays, they neglected to call and inform us of anything on our project and left a huge crane with 8 palettes of used/old tiles in front of our house for 10 days. Their employees got in an argument in front of our house and they quit and left a huge hole in our project for over a week. They also promised they would tarp the roof if it rained and they didn't for a solid 5 days until the inner part of our house was such a mess. read more

I contacted peterson dean about getting solar panels installed on my roof. I contacted several companies. PetersenDean Roofing & Solar's response was quick. The panels they offered weren't that great and were at higher price then better brand product other companies were offering. I politely let PetersenDean Roofing & Solar know I would be going with another company. Their response was If the panels are more affordable, and better then it must be some kind of scam or im getting cheated. If PetersenDean Roofing & Solar wanted my business they should of came at me with there best product at the best price. They didn't. After my response the sales person started spamming my inbox with the same response telling me I must be getting scammed. I had to actually ask the person to stop emailing me. I felt PetersenDean Roofing & Solar tried using scare tactics, and tried to push lower quality panels with the hope that I wasn't knowledgeable about solar. Let me start off by saying this... I am adamant about things being done the "Right" way and having anyone working on my home, work on it with the same integrity they would if it was their own home. With that being said, I contacted Don Miller from PetersenDean. Don has gone above and beyond to ensure all my needs have been met and done the correct way. Even if it means having to redo work in order to please me. There is no cutting corners for Don and his team. I can honestly say Don has the attention to detail, customer service and work ethic that this business needs. I would recommend PetersenDean Roofing based off of Don alone. So, my roof is now installed and it looks awesome! Not a flaw that I can see. Everything is cut straight and lined up perfectly. The flashing was painted to match. They asked for my preference on several different situations even when I wasn't home to make sure I was happy with the result. Enough about my new, beautiful looking roof though, I also had PetersenDean do my Solar as well. I had them install 26 panels and they put them up so fast I could hardly take a breath. They look beautiful and they work flawlessly. I pretty much have no electric bill, in fact in most instances SDGE is paying me! I am very thankful for them to measure out the required amount of panels I needed. They even asked me if I was planning to do any future building with my home (which I am) so they took this into consideration during the installation and for the amount of panels I have. In summary, I loved my experience with PetersenDean Solar and with the PetersenDean Roofing. Don Miller really made me a believer of this company and they have what it takes to take on any job. My family and I had 17 Solar panels installed for our 1700 square foot home by the professionals at Peterson Dean . They showed up to our home at 7:30 am ready to work. The professionalism and working knowledge were exemplary , Izzy and his crew did an outstanding job . Izzy and his young apprentice Samuel even took great pictures of the panels after installation (very cool! ) Peterson Dean as well Gage from JP the guys who do the electrical and the Converter were all the best crew a homeowner could ask for. What a disappointment. Promised 60 days, 4 months and counting. Project managers do not have a clue about permitting or communication. Engineering is always behind. Multiple call to check on progress, trying to find out if there is a plan, assisting them with correct permit location, reminding them to submit paperwork, multiple e-mail requesting documents that have already been signed and sent AND the list goes on. Multiple calls to supervisors. Inspection was on 7/18/2018 and was not even submitted for PTO for over 2 weeks. First payment is due and the system is not even operational. If you have all the time in the world to wait for your solar, pick this company. On a happy note instillation team was excellent and the sales person Larry was very knowledgeable and helpful in navigating the dysfunctional work flow. Still waiting....... read more

This review is for my Grandparents!! Which is even worse! I would not recommended this company. I interviewed a lot of solar companies but after meeting with the salesman, I decided to go with PetersenDean. The whole process was a pain! I felt like I was not informed about what was going on or what the next step was or when the next step would happen. I had to call over and over to find out what was going on. The worst part is they wouldn't return the calls. I heard that our "coordinator" quit which could have played a part but for this kind of money there really is no excuse. It seems as if they are just over booked which is causing a lack in their ability to service their clients efficiently. However, The actually install was great! The installer was awesome. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT is.... Now that I have the solar installed and the city come out to permit it, I am at a complete loss! I have no idea how to monitor my solar. I asked questions and their reply was we will send you an email. I have not received the email!!! So now I have a $20K paperweight on my house. Who knows if they got over on the old man!!! read more

After Interviewing 4 roofing companies in the San Diego area, I chose PetersenDean, whom were the biggest and most expensive, because I figured that they would be the most competent and professional co. to get the job done right and fast as I had a couple of leaks already. (Just purchased the home a month prior) Unfortunately, that's not how it worked out. The original quote that I signed in Dec of 2016 was for a re-roof of the entire house. At that time, I knew nothing about roofing, that's why I selected a professional co. I was also planning on PetersenDean installing the Ssolar System and upgrading the main power panel after the roof job. I explained to the sales man of the general and specific issues that I wanted to address during this project including the sagging flat part of the roof. The re-roof job was quoted at $22,000. The job started on time, but a couple of days into the job I noticed that new roofing material was being put down over a rotted roof deck. The nails shot into the roof were actually blowing out the bottom of the eves. I immediately raised the issue and the job stopped. The new material had to be removed, which included the underlayment material and shingles. As the job continued, and the entire old roof was stripped, I failed to see what solutions they had for the issues I wanted addressed. Such as dealing with the sagging flat roof. I raised the concern, but all I got was the roof crew who barely spoke English, tell me, "So you don't want a flat roof? huh. At this time I realized that PetersenDean in fact did not have any plans on addressing the sagging flat roof portion of the house. The job stopped once again. The rains came, and PetersenDean made a attempt to tarp the entire house, but failed. House started to get water on the inside. A foreman came out and we discussed potential solutions to the roof. while I was on the roof, the drew up a napkin drawing of a 3' peak addition to the structure and said it would cost $10,000 extra from the original quote. With the roof being off, house taking on water, and more rain coming, I had no other choice but to sign it. A few hours later, I realised that I just totaly got ripped off. More rains came, more water came. I had to spend the rainy nights, in the middle of the night, sweeping the water off of the roof to minimise the damages to the inside of the house. I called PetersenDean for help, but all I got was more workers that didnt speak english nor knew what to do. I sent one to home depot to buy me buckets. When he came back with 10 buckets, he asked me if that was all I needed. Trying very hard to hold my cool, I told him if he had no furteher instruction from his boss then he should leave. He left. There were so many leaks that I used up all the buckets, trashcans, kids cerial bowls and plastic cups I had. While the project being stopped, me waiting for the formal drawings for the roof modification, I got a call from the roof crew asking to get access to my garage. I asked why, and they stated that they need to find the other wall in my garage for support. At that point I had to leave work and see what was going on at the house. I got home and found that the work crew cut a hole into my roof deck and already attached one strectural support beam to one of my inner walls. I asked who permited the work and asked to see the engineering drawing that they were working to. All they came up with was the original napkin drawing that the presented a week prior. I had to stop the job. It was clear that there was sructural work being done to my house without a approved engineering drawing or a city building permit. The job stalled waiting for someone to come up with a correct solution. With the lack of action coming from PetersenDean I had to call upon someone else to help engineer something for us. This caused more delays. More rains came, more water came. I had to leave work during the rains to sweep water off the roof and re position catch containers inside of the house. The flooding got so bad that the ceiling started to not only come down in the house, but also started to smell really bad from the growth of something bad. Simultaneously, the tarp job on the roof diverted heavy amounts of water into the flower bed in front of the house, causing the water to seep into my basement and flood a newly remodeled bedroom. PetersenDean finanly came up with the correct solution, but it took a long time. PetersenDean took no responsibility for any of the damage and told me to file an insurance claim. Job took 9 months. Went $12,000 over budget and caused $25,000 worth of damages to my home. It was a horrible experience and the hardest part for me was watching my wife cry many times during this process. I'm writing this review because I don't know any other way to get PetersenDean to respond to me. I purchased a Solar4America custom system of 27 panels in August 2016 for my 2860SF home. The project went fine and every person that came to my house was top notch. The project manager was remote, but kept me informed. I won't say things were flawless, but more than adequate. Incrementally through out the project I made my payments totaling my cash price of $25,582.68. We got the system officially up and running in January 2017. It is a bummer that when your internet goes out, you can't reset the app monitoring yourself. At the time of sale, the pitch said at the end of my 1st year, I'd end up paying SDGE around $100 +/-. My first Net Energy Metering Ture-Up SDGE bill came in January 2018 and it was $611.29. I just about crapped myself. I called SDGE and they told me this is often the case when solar companies over promise. I called PetersenDean. I complained about the true up bill and I inquired as to whether I should have had more panels installed. I requested someone reset the app monitoring function because somewhere back in time my internet was reset/rebooted. I was told someone local would call me back. Two weeks later, I see a PetersenDean commercial playing during the news. It prompted me to call back. This time the customer service representative told me their records showed I called two weeks prior. Again I was told the local customer service representative, Rebecca ?, would call me back. As of this writing, no calls or written communication. In the meantime, I've seen and heard countless PetersenDean commercials running with Tim Conway and Veteran endorsements. It angers me every time I see or hear them. I really expected more out of such a large company that boasted about their history and commitment to veterans. While I served six years in the USMC, I believe everyone deserves customer service. Apparently, PetersenDean prefers to spend more money on marketing than actual customer service. At this point, I'm thinking Consumer Bob, Turko files and the Better Business Bureau. 3/2/18 UPDATE: I received an email from PetersenDean on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Then on February 25, 2018, Operations Manager Bradley Kirk called me. We met in person a short while later in my home. Brad felt the wrath of me venting all my concerns. He took it like a champ and listened attentively and empathetically. He promised to get back to me by the end of the week and he did. We communicated on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 and set an appointment to meet in person on Friday, March 2, 2018. Brad was punctual and accompanied by Regional Sales Manager JD Perone. They took the time to address all my concerns and presented me with options to resolve them. If I were allowed to yelp Brad, he's five stars for sure. At this point, I'm pleased that PetersenDean took to the time with me to regain my trust in their customer service and committment. read more

I chose Petersen Dean to do my solar because I was also concerned about my roof and knew I needed a new electrical panel for my 40 year old house. They have all the Contractor licenses for this work and decades of experience. Also they use all materials made in the USA, a factor that was most important to me, and they are quite transparent about their basic pricing so it was easy to get a good idea of prices up front. They took care of everything and anytime there was a question or issue they were on it immediately. I am very happy with the service and quality. They also have an online customer portal and a project coordinator. Mine was Rishi Narain, he was great. Everyone treated me well and it was pretty clear that customer service is very important to Petersen Dean. My system has been producing for a week now, and thanks to the online inverter monitoring system, I can see exactly how much my system is producing every hour. It was so worth it. read more

i requested a solar quote through peterson dean. a nice man came a gave a quote. i reffered him to a family member and he mentioned if he closes the deal i would get a visa card for the refferal. he closed a 40,000 dollar deal, roof and solar. been about 8 months, i have not received anything in return, system has been installed for atleast 4 months now. not good business. and should not forget about how you got the business in the first place. read more

We just got our roof and solar installed by PetersenDean and we had to let people know how great this company is! From start to finish this company keeps you fully informed every step of the way. Rebecca kept us informed of each step and what to expect. The only time we had a complaint- some old roofing material had fallen in the attic on top of our whole house fan vents- I called Rebecca and she sent out a worker to clean it for us. The roofers didn't have access to our attic so they didn't know about the mess. Otherwise everything was cleaned up daily and everything was done to our satisfaction. Every single worker that came to our house was polite and friendly. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone! read more

I almost forgot to mention...I own a 200+ gallon saltwater aquarium which runs electricity 24/7 (one of my needs for solar!). During the cutover process, I would have been without power, which would have killed everything in my tank. PetersenDean loaned me a generator to keep everything happy and healthy during the process. This review was saved as a draft from earlier in 2017 - To be concise: The deal on a new roof after having interior damage from a leak in the December 2016 rains was a good deal for two reasons: The guarantee and the materials being used. Other parts of the work and follow-up need attention: The roof leaked at the scupper 2 days after PD declared the job complete - in accordance with their guarantee they came right out and fixed the leak temporarily and then brought out a crew to more permanently fix the cause of the leak. We paid PD over $500 extra because it isn't possible to get their trailer right up to the house so they could throw tear-off directly into the trailer. So the workers put down blue tarps on the front yard and threw the tear off onto the tarps, and the lawn and the bushes. It then took them 2 days to move the tear-off to the trailer. In that time our dymondia ground cover under the tarp bit the dust...So we asked for the damage to the furniture to be compensated and the damage to the yard to be compensated by the return of the $540 extra fee that we paid for them to ruin our yard. The scupper leak damaged a plaster wall in our MBR which PD assured us that they would pay for and asked for a quote from the contractor who was already working on other rain damage issues. PD got in a minor dispute with the contractor because the repair bill exceeded the estimate. Again, this was a direct deal between PD and the contractor. Happy to have a new roof with a long warranty. PD worked with us to correct all of our concerns. If we decide to go solar we'll consider PD for the system and install. read more

Everything Mike Berg, the sales rep we worked with in putting our PV system and Storage System together, said came true! We have three electric cars, a koi pond, and jucuzzie ...so our electric bill was 350-400 bucks a month. And now we are loving our PV System. Its net positive and we've already had a black out where the Battery took over and saved my koi pond and ran my house loads of choice. Its so awesome. The tax return was more than expected even lowering our monthly payment to half of our old electric bill... I worked for the electric company 31 years and got a monthly discount on my bill and they still beat my discount. Now you will need to learn a few things and work with their staff on installation, inspections, applying for the rebates and getting thru your HOA, Electric Utility, or City issues, its not easy, ...I won't lie to you. You will be working to make this happen. Its a major under-taking like a room addition so be calm and realize this doesn't happen overnight. From beginning to "Permission to Operate" from the electric company was 7 months for us.... but oh so worth it! Do the re-roof, Do the Battery, Do the PV system and enjoy the savings, rebates, and tax incentives ...you will be happy after it's done..it's a lot to learn, but it's the future, and you are joining the future as a power producer. I wish I would have had more "space" to include my "un-truncated" version of my review. Yelp, understandably so, has a space limitation for reviews. I now realize that I did not do a very good job in explaining my point regarding the "service panel disclosure." Mr. Petersen is correct--sales consultants are not qualified to evaluate service panel/electrical devices. I should have been more clear in my review. The point I was trying to make (and I didn't do it very well) was that a customer should be entitled to full disclosure of the TOTAL cost of a solar system BEFORE he/she signs a contract. This includes any service panel upgrade costs. In my opinion, regardless of who is qualified make the decision for the need of a service panel upgrade, this should be done BEFORE the pen is handed to the customer. The customer should not have to wait until AFTER he/she signs the contract, to find out that he/she needs to shell out another $1300+ to have a system installed. Again, I am very happy with my system and I WOULD recommend PetersenDean Solar to anyone... Added/Updated: 09-12-16: This is a followup writeup on a PetersenDean system install. Based on PetersenDean's (PD's) recent decision to throw up their hands and not make good on what they initially sold me. I am lowering my initial Yelp rating from a 4 star to a 3 star rating. PD made a total 3 service calls to my residence attempting to successfully connect a consumption transformer to the incoming grid wire in my service box. I currently have inaccurate consumption data showing on the Enphase Enlighten web monitor that is off by as much as 19 kWh's rendering the consumption monitor essentially useless. Enphase has posted a technical brief "Assessing a Site for Installation of Consumption Monitoring" which can be found online which outlines various workarounds in attempting to get consumption transformers to function correctly. To my knowledge, the only things that were done to my system was to reposition the pickup transformers within my service panel. Initially, the service tech had connected the transformer wiring incorrectly in the initial service call (my initial complaint was that I was not getting any consumption data--and I had to alert them of that!). Subsequent service calls did not get the system to work correctly. In the end, a few days ago, I received an email stating what I was expecting, PD essentially washing their hands with my particular installation and pointing out that the SDG&E Renewable Meter Adapter that my system had was the culprit that prevented PD from making good on a correctly functioning Enphase consumption monitor install. The mistake I made is not alerting the financing firm that the system had not yet been installed totally as sold. Had I done so, you can bet that PD would not have thrown up their hands... I know that the HERO Program does have a provision that requires customer "sign-off" before the installer is paid, as part of the Hero process/protocol. Hopefully, my mistake will alert others to make sure that their system is installed "as sold" before giving the green light on payment to their installer. The Enphase consumption monitor was part of the sales pitch of the Enphase system I was sold. Based on the lack of the operability of the consumption portion of the Enphase system and the other shortcomings mentioned in my initial rating writeup cited above, I can NO LONGER RECOMMEND PD to anyone looking for a good solar system installer. They evidently cannot get what they sell installed correctly so that monitoring devices report accurate data. After all, if the reported data is inaccurate, what is the use of installing it? read more

If you go with any other company you are nuts. This company (PetersenDean) treats you with respect and doesn't lie to you. I started with SC and after they inspected the house they said it would cost an additional $3,100 because of the roof tiles that would be broken when they installed the system. They wanted to put composite shingles under the solar panels and put my tile shingles around the panels so you wouldn't see what was under the panels. If I would have wanted to move I would have had to replace the tiles in order to meet my HOA requirements if I wanted to take the solar panels with me. PetersenDean personal from the sales rep Armando Champagne to Jose Haney to the project manager Jenny have been nothing but fantastic. They have answered all our questions and have been very respectful to both my wife and me. Every one of their personal have been wonderful and respectful of both of us. If you want to support American workers then you you need to go with them as they use only American made panels, you will never regret it, i can't even express in words how great this company and it's people will treat you. They make you feel like family and treat you that way. I have never written a review for any other company in my 71 years, but this company deserves my unconditional support. If you don't use them then good luck to you, I know that I don't have to worry, but will you feel that way if you go with someone else? read more

Here I go again! I thought the leak I experienced from last Monday's all day rain was from my solar installation. I didn't have any leaks prior to that storm and then a major leak after, hence my analytical deduction it had to come from the solar installation. John and his guys came out from Petersen Dean to replace some drywall and paint, however, we didn't know where the water was coming from? After spraying water on the roof and looking through a gable vent we finally were able to figure it out. My leak had nothing to do with Petersen Deans solar installation. My leak was from Pardee construction companies lack of placing the tiles on my roof properly, and the water wasn't dripping into a tile pan. Petersen Dean has gone above and beyond my satisfaction to a feeling of guilt. They didn't have to do this! This leak had nothing to do with their install. With all this said, if you want an American company installing American products, hiring American citizens then hire these guys. The right company for roofing and solar. Great people from start to finish. I had a new roof installed and solar panels. The roof was scraped all the way down, not just a layover. All my rotted and termite infested wood was removed and replaced and new shingles installed with ridge vents (look it up very cool). Roofers were outstanding and my property was cleaner every day they were here than ever before. Right after the roof came the solar panels. Same experience. I had the same project coordinator from install to activating the system. Excellent communication from start to finish. No surprises, no hassles. I have completed 5+ solar projects through my job and 2 fuel cell projects as well so pretty well informed in this area. Somewhat to my surprise, Petersen-Dean have exceeded my expectations. The organization of the work / the teams the schedule including permitting, all went has they advised. The predicted output of my system (6 months now) including the rainy weather has been quite accurate. They calculated the system would produce 108% of what I need and so far we have produced 101%, very reasonable considering recent weather. This is my first Yelp review. I'm usually too lazy to write one but Petersen Dean is not treating me fair and I wanted to warn others. What I ordered: - Roof repair - Solar panels and install - Backup battery and install Quick summary - Negotiations - Bad - Roof Repair - Good! - Electrical Panel upgrade - Good! - Solar panels and install - Good! - Backup battery and install - Horrible!!! Battery installed in Jan and it is still not working. Petersen Dean has not given me any credits or concrete time line for repair. I have paid in full since Dec. My comments: April 2016 - Initial price negotiation was shaky since we agreed on a price and 6 months no interest financing. Then after I did the application for the financing, I was told I couldn't have the financing because "the company was losing money". So after I had applied, and gotten approved for credit and had my credit dinged , the financing was reneged. October 2016 - I had to wait 6 months before I could have the solar panels installed. Petersen Dean said the delay was waiting for the permitting for the battery. In hindsight, should've just done a solar install first and then do the battery permit afterwards. Because of the delay, I couldn't get the net metering 1 but instead the net metering 2. I think Petersen Dean should've had the foresight to see this. The roof repairs I asked for were done promptly so that was cool. The electrical panel upgrades were done promply so once again very cool. Solar install went as they described. However, petersen dean told me battery was not available for install because there was an issue with the vendor Dec 2016 - Whole project was paid in full Jan 2017 - Battery install finally! We failed the city inspection because wiring was done wrong, Also the battery was not sending usage reports out Feb 2017 - Finally wiring fixed and city inspection passed. Battery not working still March 2017 - Petersen Dean said fix for battery would come in March. Nada April & May 2017 - I get an email once every 2 weeks from Petersen Dean saying "they're working on it". At this point I'm totally fed up. Currently working with credit card company to get my money back for the battery install Bottom line: - Be careful what is promised during negotiations - these guys can do solar - these guys are not ready for prime time when it comes to back up battery and install read more

I'm not your typical home solar customer. In my daytime life I'm a director at a major electric utility and I"ve been involved in scoping, permitting and building about $1B in power generation projects, including the equivalent of around 20,000 residential home worth of solar PV. It's fair to say that I know a lot about energy and solar. I'm not a contractor, so I couldn't (and didn't want to) install my own system with all the warranties, etc. First off, I was never interested in renting a system, so when I contacted about 6 solar companies, I made it clear I was a buyer. Second, I knew I needed a roof on the house that I just bought, and having done a lot of solar, I was well aware that roofers and solar companies do a lot of finger pointing when there's a problem. Of all the companies that I talked to, Petersen Dean was the only one that both had aggressive pricing and the ability to do the roof as part of the overall package. Their pricing on both roofing and solar was the best that I had found in the market, and they were willing to schedule around other work that I had going at the house. It's been about a year since the roof went on, so far - so good. It looks nice and is doing fine. I'm several months deep into my solar production, same story - so far, so good. I have a 3.67kW system for my 2000 sq ft 4 bedroom house. If's probably a little small, but the house didn't have A/C and I added highly efficient mini-splits, so I feel I have a good sized system. I could have gone with 5kW and been happy also. That pricing was excellent as well. I can't speak to Petersen-Dean at every office in their company, but I can tell you that the San Diego team was top notch and able to interact with SDGE, the City of San Diego, and the Petersen Dean home office quickly and effectively. I couldn't be happier and I continue to monitor my system output so I'll update this review periodically. PetersonDean consumption monitor is defective. I am now paying MORE for electricity than I have in the past years. My system is producing and consuming the exact amount. How is this possible I say? I am told, I must have a defective appliance or "old" appliance that is causing this.....I plan to disconnect this Solar from my electric box, due to Marco can not help me. Brad and Marco and SDGE confirmed, My brother had a "space Heater" that was the culprit. I am now in the process of ordering a Consumption offset battery. First: Peterson Dean did not do any work for us. BUT, if we were to have solar installed, it would be with Petersen Dean. The person who helped us decide was Mark Watson, whose office is actually in Sacremento, and he was the best - not 'salesman,' but counselor. He just wanted us to get what would be cost efficient for us. We really appreciated his phone calls and emails supporting that decision and he was very gracious when we finally made our decision. read more
