Mitch even promoted a commercial of himself promoting/gloating about them prior to the change. It is sad to see them tear down another company with false information just because of the competition. Your promotion of "Vergola" and "Equinox" lead us to believe you are a new dealer that cannot compete with our excellent service, product, and quick lead times, and all the reasons why we sell over 1,000 patio systems a year. Solena Landscape finished a 7-week project at our commercial property a few weeks ago. The crew was here on time every day, worked safely and the project was on budget. There was extensive demo involved of the old landscaping and numerous trees removed, all without any issues. Our irrigation was replaced, new sod along with a concrete walkway. Took almost a year to finish a job, very high prices and hard to deal with. I would not use these people unless your prepared to wait 6-10 months for the job to be complete and thats if your lucky. Had a yard full of dirt and weeds. Interviewed four different landscaping companies. My wife and I were looking for a professional lanscaper who was creative, professional, reliable, and bonded and liscensed and had an in house crew. We found that in Mitch Kalamian who owns Solena and his hard working crew of professionals. Mitch was very creative during our landscape design which cost us $ 250 for the visit and a hand drawing, but was worth every penny. He was always available to answer any questions and provided a fixed price quote to complete the design plan. We were lucky and Mitch had a cancellation within 2 weeks of making a decision to hire Solena. Once we hired them they were off and running and completed the entire project in 1 week. We had anywhere from 8 - 12 people working in our backyard all working very hard. You need to be on your toes to stay ahead of the crew. Hugo the foreman of the crew was very capable, knowledgeable, organized, and personable. Our project consisted of installing a DG area (8 ft by 40 ft), a vegetable box, a fire pit, bringing in fill and leveling the back yard, lanscape design, installing St Augustine sod, setup for a fountain by others, purchasing and planting the plant life, installing the sprinkler and plant watering system, and demo, design, and planting two front yard flower beds. It came out fantastic and several of our neighbors commented that our landscape project propelled our house to the best in the neighborhood. Best of all we have enjoyed many fun evenings with friends and family both BBQing, sitting out listening to the fountain, and watching the fire in the fire pit. Solena is not the least cost landscaper, but we received just what we paid for and it was high quality, ahead of schedule, and on budget. If we had to do it over again we would do it the same way. We're very happy with Solena Landscaping's work on our backyard lawn and new deck. Mitch made several advance visits to discuss plans with us before getting started. He had quite a few good suggestions on the landscaping design, selection of plants and trees, and choice of materials for the deck. Once underway, Solena focused their FULL attention on our job, and did not multitask with other projects. The crew was professional and skillful, and offered ideas and solutions when needed. They brought their own Porta Potty during the project, and cleaned up everything afterwards. The preparation for the new lawn was amazing. They turned over the ground completely, regraded and rolled it, installed a new sprinkler system, and trimmed the new sod to fit perfectly around trees and against hardscaping features. The photo of the lawn (below) looks down the slope, and shows how naturally it fits around the trees and stepping stones (also Mitch's work). Lemon and pepper trees and ground cover were added as well. The closeup photo shows our new stone-and-wood poolside deck, with integrated lighting. Total self promoting dollar hungry jerks. I call the company tell them what my project entails and they agree to come out and meet me. I meet their representative he takes measurements draws a planning map, understands I want a simple water tolerant design and tells me he will give me an estimate in a few days. At the end of the day I receive and email telling me that my project does not have enough "wow" factor for them to put their name on my home project. Basically there is not enough money in my project and we want to up sell you so we can self promote ourselves and make more money off of me. read more

When we began the undertaking of a new landscape concept for our backyard, it was clear that a well thought out design was critical to its success. One of my primary concerns was that our yard was relatively large and not conventionally shaped. We knew the designer would be challenged in creating the proper flow that would tie in the yard's shape with the features we were looking for. We also knew that this project represented a major investment and we needed to feel comfortable with the designer. That's why we chose to work with Solena Landscape. From our first contact with Mitch, we felt very comfortable with him, not just because of his wealth of knowledge, but also because he was very sensitive to our input. Mitch was very thorough in his explanation of the design process, beginning with a dialogue about our ideas and concepts. He then spend time doing an inventory of measurements, sun/shade impacts, privacy concerns, theme concepts relative to our home, and basically trying to feel out what we wanted balanced against the palette our yard provided. Mitch then drew up a basic design and we met again to further process and refine. Again I can't emphasize his patience with our needs and his gentleness with his recommendations based on our input. We met several more times before completing the design. Every step of the process served to build on the previous meeting. I reviewed Solena Landscape 2 1/2 years ago when they did our (small) front yard. At that time, Mitch provided us with a design and quote for our backyard, but we decided against engaging in that project at the time. Fast forward to end of 2017, Mitch Kalamian and his crew led by Hugo (who has been with Mitch for many years) recently completed this project. We did obtain a couple of other bids to see if we could cut down on cost with a similar design. We narrowed it down to 2 bids- Solena Landscape (because we knew their work from our previous house and the front yard of our current home) and Landscape Contractor ABC (we'll just leave it at that). It was a bit of a tough decision because ABC Company's bid was quite a bit less than Solena's bid for a comparable design (although not the same). Since we had a relationship with Mitch, we let him know that we were debating because the other company was so much lower and for obvious reasons, we would probably go with them. Mitch offered to review their bid for us to make sure it was truly comparable. Thank goodness we had him do that because there were several questions he had us pose to the other company to verify that certain items were apples to apples. It turns out there was one MAJOR omission in the other contractor's bid. Despite several discussions about the huge dirt slope occupying almost 2/3 of our yard and how we could get more usable space, Contractor ABC's bid did not include the cost to excavate and grade the slope and the dump fees, which was a pretty significant cost. When we pointed that out to the contractor rep, he didn't even realize it, he sort of glossed over it and advised us he would update the quote. But he kept urging us to give him a final decision because they were beginning to get booked up and if we didn't sign the contract ASAP, we might have to wait 4 - 5 months. Well, obviously we had no intention of signing any contract and giving him the business with such a major oversight just in the bid process. I can't imagine what other oversights may have come up in dealing with this company. When we added back in the cost of that omission, it really closed the gap in cost from Solena's quote. At that point, we felt the right decision was to go with Solena since we knew first-hand the quality of their work and the professionalism and reliability of Mitch, Hugo and the entire crew. We moved into a beautiful neighborhood. Our house was nice but needed something more. We got a postcard in the mail from Solena Landscaping, and we decided to contact them because our entire yard (front & back) needed a makeover. At our first meeting with Mitch, we were hooked. He showed up on time, was very professional and spoke with confidence. We liked that he listened to what we had in mind, but since he was the professional, he designed our yard better than we could have even imagined. We had a few "musts" that we asked for, and Mitch went out of his way to provide our small yard with as much "WOW" as possible. We received several other bids on our yard. Mitch was neither the highest nor the lowest, but we were so happy that we went with Solena. His crew was always here working and at the end of the day, they did their best to clean up and put everything in order. It was so awesome to watch the progress of our yard take shape. They even waited for me to get home one day with our granddaughters so we could put their hand prints in the wet cement. (They couldn't have been kinder and more sincere. That effort scored big points with us.) When we had questions, we were always able to make contact with Mitch or his #1 foreman and the job ran as smoothly as was possible. We recently moved into a new home which had a pool but no spa. Our project initially started as only wanting to add a spa to the existing pool. Mitch with Solena Landscape came highly recommended to us so we made our first appointment with him. Mitch said when he looked at the address he thought it looked familiar to him. When he arrived at the house he realized that 18 years ago he remodeled the existing pool and backyard(such a small world!). We felt very comfortable with Mitch and his capabilities.Our conversation changed from only adding a spa to the idea of what a complete new design with new pool, spa and hardscape would look like. We invited Mitch Kalamian to submit a plan and estimate, to demo and completely re-do our backyard in Huntington Beach. We extended this offer to 3 other landscape companies. The plans were to include an in-ground spa with water feature, stacked stone fireplace, patio flagstone flooring & cover, plus lush landscape and trees to compliment the hardscape. His plans were so much more detailed with explanations for the project's components, spacing, plant choices and budget considerations... there was really no comparison to the competition. The work was completed as envisioned: Within the time estimated; In a clean and orderly fashion; And we experienced no problems that weren't immediately rectified after the job completion. What we particularly liked about Mitch, is that he encouraged our input... even bad input. We had ideas, but they didn't always fit the overall project concept. We had a crazy awful backyard and a small budget. Mitch worked with me to get all the elements I wanted but still be within my budget. He was very involved in the process and always had input into decisions--for example my plan called for a deck, but the decking materials put me way over budget. Mitch suggested several potential solutions, and from those I chose stained concrete. He helped me pick the stain color, and the layout of the concrete, so that the whole yard is cohesive and flows well. Mitch is very communicative, and his team is amazing. They are so clean, so courteous, that it was actually pleasant to have the guys around. These guys have in-depth knowledge of what they are doing.
