Hired this contractor for a backyard renovation project last Summer. The project was to add a couple of Planter walls on the hill next to our pool. The quoted price was alright but the details were missing such as exactly whats covered in the job. later, had to pay more to get the originally promised job. Work was done pretty quickly but the overall quality of work isn't professional. I have some of the paver stones loose with in the first week and more now only after a year. I've been building out my yard based on the wifey's vision and dream. Everything from wall to wall was re-done. However, after years of back breaking work on the weekends I decided to just hired a reliable contractor to finish the last landscape/hardscape. I interviewed about 10-12 companies. It's normal to get various estimates but in the end I chose Unique Home Builders. They were not the cheapest nor highest but very reasonable especially since they have a current contractor's license (checked via Contractors State License Board) to include worker's liability insurance. That's important in case a worker gets injured, etc. From the start I worked with Steve Cohen. He was one of their Project Managers. Steve was great at keeping me informed throughout the process and made sure corrections were completed if needed. He stopped by daily to check on the progress and made sure things are on schedule. Have you ever been to a concert and the opening band was better than the headliner? Sometimes things in life exceed our expectations and that's exactly what Nir and his crew did with our driveway. At the beginning, I sent out requests for bids and ended up having 5 companies come over to give me a quote. Unique Home Builders came in at the lowest bid, but my decision was much more than price (*this is always important to note). I just felt a connection and that he was genuine. Not pushy, like the other bidders did immediately. A few suggestions and options were considered, and a follow up appointment so my fiance could meet him as well to make the final decision (as with many households, the husband doesn't get to make the final call so it was important that she felt the company doing the job was genuine). We signed the contract and within two weeks, the entire job was completed. Our house went from looking like Ice Cube's house in the movie Friday, to the house in Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I've only got good things to say about these guys! I worked with Ben and his crew for the backyard of our new construction home. From the beginning of the project to the end of the project, Ben was very responsive and answered all my questions along the way. I was happy to know he was always just a quick text or phone call away. During our consultation, he listened to our wish list and made a ton of recommendations based on that. He was very honest and told us what would and would not work given the amount of space we have - about 500 square feet or so. Ultimately, our goal was to have that cool outdoor LA patio restaurant or coffeeshop vibe. Simple, clean, hip, and cozy. We decided to go with a minimal paver design for the main space with a parameter of planters around the yard. The pavers we picked were a concrete grey 24x24 inch square that were laid straight throughout. For plants, I really wanted to be able to pick them out myself, so I ended up going to a local nursery and buying them there. Rather than paying for delivery with the nursery, Ben's crew was able to pick them up and plant them for me! One thing I wish I would have done was had them install a drip irrigation system and maybe some lights. I was trying to save a couple hundred bucks. But that's nothing an easy DIY project can't complete, right? For price, we found Unique Home Builders to be very fair and competitive. You will for sure get the service and quality you pay for. Obviously prices will vary based on the amount of space you are having done. I say you get a quote for your project and see how it compares to other companies. Ben had availability about a week after we talked, which was nice. They worked very fast and efficiently while maintaining high-quality work. The original quote from UHB was very comparable to other quotes we got from other companies. However, Ben was willing to come down a little bit further on the price and also gave us a 2-year warranty on labor instead of 1 year. Over the course of the project UBH was very responsive, accommodating and very willing to work with me. The team that did the actual labor work were extremely hard workers, very friendly and humble. I had a few changes as work was being done, but the workers were very willing to make course corrections and adjusted.
