Great location! Slow service... know this before you come. Everything we ate was delicious and the beverages were on point. Valet parking is available but there is also free parking in the lot behind the restaurant. The band was nice, booths were comfortable and we went the Saturday before Mother's Day so it was busy. My son Justin, took me to Somerville's last night for my Birthday and I have to say that I will be putting it on my Friday night experience list every week from here on out! the Music fabulous, the atmosphere transcendent, the food delicious, Customer Service out of this world, and the guests were actually DRESSED in dinner fashion!! it's my kind of place and I'll be making my trip there weekly from now on. Brunch review: As expected, you aren't seated till most of your party gets there, but there wasn't a wait once we were both there. The ambience does give dinner/supper club even though it's brunch. There's no natural light in the building. The food was soooo good though. Shrimp and grit 10/10. It is a lighter dish though so if you're starving you might need something else Shrimp cocktail- tasty, but still Shrimp cocktail. Not worth the price for 4 Shrimp Ham and cheese scramble- 10/10. Filling and you get a little bit of everything. Protein, starch, and greens Espresso martini- 10/10 if you're not a creamy coffee person. You def taste the expresso White sangria - good, but red was better. I'd recommend sampling both and then decide. Service: the service was great! Heard about Somerville but never made it. Better late than never. And after my visit, I wished I had gone sooner. I don't remember what night it was however, it was close by and a friend and I had went elsewhere and was underwhelmed. A quick search in the area landed us at Somerville. I parked in front on Slauson. Free. I heard there's a lot in the back but I don't know any more details than that. I just know that I don't like parking on a main drag because of the potential for accidents - but when you're in LA - you take what you can get. It was later when I overheard someone mentioning the lot in back. Service was excellent. From the server, to the chef to the manager - all came out checking on us and even just chatting. All this and live jazz. Not complaining one bit. It was one of those experiences where you feel like you're in someone's home and they're just making you feel like their guest. As for the food ... see pics. I don't have the words except to say, it was perfect. I wouldn't change a thing and I'd order the exact same thing again on the next visit. Food was served as requested and came out timed like courses. I don't know what's in the bread but if it's crack, it needs to be legalized. Anyway, love places like this. The decor is everything! From the bar mini Tiffany like lamps to the restrooms such a delightful dark at the beginning space, then your eyes will adjust. All staff we came across were very nice. Our server Kendall was exceptional! Appreciated her suggestions and clarity to the menu items, they were on point, not everyone is going to like everything and so honesty is appreciated. My friend had the collard greens lasagna, she said it was different and tasty. We shared the Brussel sprouts and the Mac n cheese, and those were full of flavors bursting in my mouth. I liked how the brussel sprouts were well cooked/charred :) my entree was the paccheri pasta with short rib ragu, I would have never ordered that in my past life, I wanted beef though sooo I took a risk, it was very flavorful, dish was wiped out! Heads up the burger is on the bar menu only, you cannot order it when seated... I will come back for that burger for sure. I went back Feb 2026 to celebrate a friend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, from beginning to end. We arrived a little early and waited at the bar. I believe I had the Dunbar, which has Prosecco and Hennessy...loved it! Once seated, everything that hit the table was excellent! Two of us had the kale salad and caviar slides and loved them! It was the perfect amount of food. One person had the chicken and enjoyed it and the sides. The other two had the Salmon, which was a delight with a curry sauce. Now I have to bring my husband back so we can try it together. Service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance remains top tier! They charge a $10 per person plate fee if you bring your own cake. I thought that was a bit excessive so we opted to provide the bday person with a slice. They will hold it for you and provide a candle. Believe the hype and come here! Owners Issa Rae, Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan intentionally created an elegant vibe in View Park-Windsor Hills that celebrates the rich history of South Central LA. Upon entering, guests are transported to a grand speakeasy with a high wooden ceiling, velvet booths, vintage chandeliers and lighting and art deco designs. The live jazz band is the focal point and sets the mood every night. Note that they don't seat parties until everyone is there. They should mention this detail in the reservation reminders. One of our friends out of a party of 5 was running a little behind and we had to wait outside until she came. My party got seated next to the band so it was a bit loud, but we appreciated the music and the view of the beautiful bar. We were still able to chat. We enjoyed our drinks and most of the dishes we ordered. The Golden Age is their twist on the Old Fashioned, the Sweet Tone was like a raspberry tequila martini and Forget Me Not was a nice balance of Ilegal Mezcal, Chareau, pepper honey and Glenfiddich 12 Scotch. Fried Chicken & Caviar Sliders ($27 for 2) the Buttermilk-brined chicken were decent, juicy pieces but didn't taste much of the caviar in the Petrossian creme fraiche. Maybe that's why the chef recommends adding 4 grams of caviar for an extra $45! However, we got the Baked Mac n Cheese ($17) and added Maine lobster for an extra $17 and thought that was worth it. The Mac n cheese was rich and crispy on top and the lobster elevated the dish nicely. The Brussel Sprouts ($16) were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Not greasy at all and the crispy rice added a good texture. But the Winning dish was the Collard Green Lasagna ($34)! It doesn't look that impressive on the surface but when you cut into it, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the marrying of flavors of the greens, bechamel, ricotta, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan and mozzarella layered in al dente pasta. We finished our meal by sharing a fudge brownie topped with strawberries and ice cream. The fudge was rich and gooey. The strawberries and ice cream balanced out each bite. There were a couple of mishaps with service, but they made up for it in a special way. I would definitely return to try more dishes and enjoy the live jazz and ambience. Somerville is pretty much what you'd expect from a buzzy, New American, restaurant. Boasting a dark and moody vibe, there's certainly a curated atmosphere present here, complete with a talented band. I will say that the live music (while lovely) was quite loud. Fortunately, there were breaks in the set because I couldn't carry on a conversation otherwise. The service, however, was fantastic. I was particularly impressed by our server, Kendall. On to the food. I started with The D.W. cocktail which was fabulous. Sweet, but with a lovely depth and complexity to it. For apps, we had the Parker house rolls and the carrots. If I were coming back again, I'd skip the former and reorder the latter. I've scarcely met a piece of bread that I didn't like, but these were just fine. I did appreciate the housemade truffle butter though. The carrots, on the other hand, were lovely; sweet and perfectly tender. For my main course, I got the short rib paccheri pasta which was tasty. It did come with a mound of Parmesan on top and while I'd have loved to choose my own level of cheese, it was solid. Had a bite of the chicken too and it was fine but nothing too special. I really wanted to love this place, but the three stars are for the cocktails, rolls, and ambiance only. The restaurant is stunning and I really appreciated the live music and yummy cocktails. Unfortunately, my party was seated in the corner with our backs to the rest of the restaurant, so we couldn't fully enjoy the atmosphere as we were facing a wall. As for the food, the chicken sliders were good, but probably not something I'd say are worth the price. The collard green lasagna was raved about online so my friend and I gave it a try; this was probably our least favorite item. I'd give this a 5 out of 10. Finally made it to Somerville. Was it worth the hype? For a one-time visit--yes. But would I go back? Probably not. I'd heard mixed reviews going in, so I was mostly there for the aesthetics and the vibes. On that front, they nailed it: 5 stars for ambiance and service. Now, the food. We started with the much-talked-about rolls. They were definitely good and lived up to the hype, but at $19 for six small rolls, it felt a little steep. For entrées, we ordered the braised short ribs and the collard greens lasagna. The short ribs, served over creamy risotto, were flavorful but a touch too salty. The lasagna, though, was the biggest disappointment of the night. It was so overwhelmingly cheesy that it completely drowned out the greens--I genuinely couldn't tell you what the greens or even the noodles tasted like. Don't believe the hype on that one. Dessert was the highlight: the chocolate torte. Think chocolate mousse-like cake with a crisp wafer bottom, fresh strawberries, and a scoop of strawberry gelato--absolutely delicious. Cocktails: We tried The Dunbar, which is similar to a French 75 but made with Hennessy instead of gin, and Forget Me Not, a mezcal-based drink. The Dunbar was my favorite of the two. It was a decent experience. Definitely a vibe though! There are few kinks from an operational standpoint. Customer service was a little slow. We had to wait in line for a while because their bar was full... but it really wasn't. Prices were hefty. For example, the Parker rolls were $20. Their menu wasn't extensive. I went with my girlfriends twice- once for brunch and the next time was dinner. Food was good but there were some things that could use improvement. My friend said their steak was cooked well- but it was plated weird and cut for her... which she was not a fan of. The granita dessert was interesting to say the least. I actually enjoyed it but it tasted like sea moss. Dinner: Parker rolls - soft and delicious. The truffle butter is so good. My favorite had to be the Brussels sprouts! Somerville checked all the boxes I didn't know I needed checked. Wow! From the moment, Noel said, 'Welcome to Somerville' and pulled the entry curtain back, I knew I was in for a treat. Upon walking in to the restaurant, due to the unassuming exterior, I did not know what to expect. The curtain pulled back and I entered a wide open space of beautifully crafted wood walls with exposed beams. Tall green plants lined the walls and the lighting was soft. The live band played on the left side with a fully rich sound and expert artistry. I stood at the entry way for a moment without walking to my seat right away. I was mesmerized and felt transported to a modern day jazzy supper club. Everyone who was there looked liked they stepped put of a fashion magazine or were about to audition for an amazing Hollywood role. We were escorted to a half round booth in the back on the right side. This was the perfect spot to see who was coming, going and mingling in between. The restaurant was celebrating it's one year anniversary. As I took a look around, I could see how they made it through the first year. The ambience created made you want to be there and be a part of something beautiful. As the music flowed throughout the restaurant, I felt beautiful. Kendall was our server. She was attentive, knowledgeable, kind and helpful. She moved with ease to fulfill or anticipate any requests we had. At our table, the items ordered were: truffles fries (hot, crispy and satisfying), salmon (seasoned to perfection in a curry type sauce), roast beef (tender, juicy and delicious), chicken (tender, flavorful and those grits were wonderful!). A drink: A Love Supreme, I think it was called was just okay. I ran into the actress, Issa Rae in the bathroom. I did not know this was her restaurant. I would have loved to have taken a photo with her and congratulated her on Somerville's success, but I didn't not want to intrude. Well done on all fronts. Attention to detail was had for the decor, music, ambient lighting, menu, even the bathroom was gorgeous. Again, I say, well done. I look forward to returning in the near future to experience the beauty of Somerville. As we left, Noel greeted us outside and thanked us for coming. She said she hoped we'd return. We said we would. Came here on a Sunday for a friend's birthday brunch. Reservation was for 2pm. Upon arrival, I was informed that the kitchen closes at 2:15pm. Super weird because why are yall taking reservations til 2:30pm if the kitchen closes at 2:15? Anyways, as soon as we were seated it was like we were rushed to order food and drinks. We tried to order another round of drinks but the bar closed at 3pm and our waitress didn't give a last call notice, just "the bar closed at 3pm." We also shared the hamachi and the garlic steak, which ended up being the perfect amount split between the four of us. What really made the night though was the staff. GOAT. The live band was great, the energy was fun, and the space itself is just beautiful; definitely gives upscale vibes without feeling stuffy. Issa girl, we gotta talk sis. Somerville is just not hitting the mark. The ambiance is a 10/10 but no one ever returns to a restaurant for just "vibes". Everyone's food was lukewarm NOT hot. We were celebrating two birthdays and was offered a dessert menu for purchase instead of a complimentary dessert after spending over $500 for a 4 person dinner. A complimentary dessert is standard hospitality at even the most basic restaurants. I mean...even the Olive Garden will give the girls a bday brownie or something. What a missed opportunity! Also, the espresso martini was light brown and not strong at all. Overall, the food was a 4/10 at best with extremely small portions. I emailed management in hopes of receiving some sort of acknowledgment but they never responded. Went to Somerville with my husband and another couple. It was such a vibe in there! You walk in and you're immediately transported to another time zone and another world! It was captivating, especially with the live music! And the food was better than expected. The Parker house rolls were very good--12/10! The fish was very flavorful (w the sauce and vegetables) and I would definitely get that again next time -- 9/10 (skin could have been crispier). The Brussels sprouts were unique and had crispy pieces of rice in it--sounds odd was was very good --10/10. Everyone else loved their food too. So we shall be back.
