I spoke with owner Neesha in advance and explained my challenging schedule so I was pleasantly surprised when she called to schedule my appointment. Since I'm working out of state I had to schedule a flight to accommodate the appointment she gave me, this meant leaving work a half day early. My birthday was coming up so it was important that I got my hair done. Unfortunately on the ride from LAX heading to Camarillo I received a text from Neesha canceling my appointment. I tried to call back and eventually left a message asking if she could accommodate me on my next off day (since she'd canceled) to my surprise I never go a response or ever heard from Neesha again. I thought "who does that?" I guess I should have heeded the warning in one of the reviews that said run. Having just moved to the area from out of state I was excited to find a stylist close to home. I'm a regular customer but I certainly won't be a regular customer of Neesha's because she obviously doesn't care about her customers and I can spend my money else where. I'm from the SF Bay Area and I'm used to having a supply of places to do cornrows. However, ever since I've moved to Santa Barbara, it's been difficult to find stylists who have specialization in braiding hair. I drove an hour out to Camarillo to fulfill an appointment with Shanaye I had made less than a day before in order to braid the top of my hair. I've had cornrows at least five times before by professional stylists - so just in case, I expected the meeting to take a while. I had made space in my schedule to account for three hours. Shanaye only took 45 minutes to give me - I'm being one-hundred - the best braiding I've ever had. I was afraid to ask for the style because many people charge extra for challenging cornrows. Many people in the area that I had counted on before to 'hook me up' wanted at least $40 for the design I got done today. Shanaye charged me $30 (with $5 off for being a first-time client). Not only that, but I had felt welcome as soon as I step foot into the studio. It was a family-oriented environment - there was daytime television playing and Shanaye greeted me instantly upon my entrance. Shanaye is very easy to talk to. I don't usually say that liberally - I'm not a sociable person. However, it was effortless to have a relaxing conversation with Shanaye. There was a period where the other stylist joined in a topic. I never felt any pressure to talk or prove an image - this can be a huge problem for customers unfamiliar to the culture present in other studios that specialize in urban hairstyles - overall, I felt welcome at Simplicity. I only wish that I lived closer so I could come here more often. Fortunately, this isn't the last time that I'll see Shanaye. I absolutely love this place. I've gone here twice and I'm able to get a full weave and closure installed in less than 3 hours! My last salon, a full weave was an all day event. My stylist is Shanaye and she is absolutely hands down extremely professional. She is ready to start when I arrive and does not need to take breaks or jump to another client while doing my hair. Shanaye also cares about my natural hair and gives a lot of advice on keeping my natural hair healthy while wearing a protective style. The shop is immaculate and the staff seem very friendly. Shanaye and her team welcome all different hair types as the staff is diverse. Their motto on the wall (and I'm paraphrasing) they work hard to make you look beautiful...I'm going to have to come back and correct that. The hair salon part of this Salon is horrible, I had called before I went and asked how much a trim was she said $40, not telling me how much a flat iron and style would hike up the price. If I need it was going to be that much I would've just went to my regular hair lady and got weave. I was trying to save money but the overall total was $105. I went to my bank and filed a claim, let the lady know that did my hair if my bank reached out to her and never got a reply back until yesterday. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair trimmed and it didn't even look similar to the picture I will attach it below, AND I will attach all the screenshots of the conversation with the lady that did my hair (Rose). But I went back to my regular hair stylist and told her about the Simplicity place and she didn't have nothing but bad things to say about them. I even told my mom and she said the Camarillo Salon that she goes to didn't have anything good to say about them either, they told her to never go to that hair salon and right when I stepped out that salon after she was done with my hair I told myself I was never going to go back. they got me fucked up. My appointment with Shanaye was 5 days ago, I waited to post this review (my first) because I didn't want to be emotional. My appointment was for LOC maintenance, wash, deep condition and palm roll of neck length dreadlocks. I called in advance to confirm that Shanaye provided this service and she responded with confidence that she did. I travel a lot so I have experienced several locticians and their techniques... I know quality when I experience it and unfortunately that was not my experience with Shanaye. Specifics: The deep conditioning consisted of patting conditioner on my hair then rinsing it right out. My LOCS are as frizzy as they were when I came in which is the MAIN reason for the appointment.! The LOCS themselves are these ridiculous curly cues - if you've ever taken a loc of hair and twisted and twisted it until it coiled up tight on your scalp like a spring or a slinky - THAT's what I got for a palm roll. These things were sticking up all over my head in every direction, I wanted to scream when I looked in the mirror. The LOCS were drenched in oil (wax?) that soaked through my night wrap onto my pillow - it has taken me days to get the grease out. I cannot recommend this stylist for LOC maintenance. I have another appointment scheduled to undue this mess. It's a total joke! read more

Horrible experience x2. Mine: Appt w Neesha for relaxer touch up. She showed me in without a greeting, no nice to meet you, nothing. Sat me in chair and started in. Had phone conversation w someone for 15 mins. At no point spoke to me at all. Relaxer was in and out in that 15 mins before i was whisked over to the bowl hair washed and conditioned in minutes, no time allowed to allow conditioner to set. Blow dried my hair ripping and snatching at it with carelessness. Speed was her priority. I was out the door 30 mins after id arrived. Who does a relaxer in 30 mins?!! I was terrified my hair was going to fall out, thankfully it did not but my hair did not receive the respect and treatment it deserves and any stylist should provide. My gf: Informed me she had an appt for cornrows w extensions at the salon w Shanaye. While the braids were styled well and tight at the front, she did an awfully lazy job such that immediately after her appointment i could see that her natural hair was not well braided in w the extensions and was blatantly poking out; the weave also was cut improperly in several spots and was poking out of the braids. The real deal breaker was that upon removing the braids later we saw that at least 5 inches of her hair was cut!! She was near tears. Shanaye had claimed to be giving her a trim but she cut nearly half her hair. Clearly done either bc she wanted to save herself from having to bother braiding more natural hair w the weave, or bc shes not skilled at cutting natural hair and had no business doing so. You may be desperate for a black salon outside of LA, but not this desperate...just STAY AWAY. read more

Horrible experience... I moved stuff around that I had to do to be seen at 10:30 am to get a hair trim and blow dry . I would have been a new customer . I show up there and no one is there to greet me . I then pop my head into the area where the stylists are because no one acknowledged me. I'm used to a different customer service experience. The stylists don't know why I'm there and I asked if there was someone else there because I didn't get the persons name that I had made the appointment with . They looked confused and one gal said we will be right with you but very rude tone . They looked half dead. No personality . So I go sit down . I texted the person that had Made the appointment telling her I was there but I didn't get her name - crickets no response ... I wait 5 more minutes and nothing ? I have things to do today I don't have time to wait or not be acknowledged. Finally she responded After I had the decency to tell her I was leaving and why I was leaving . She responded with that she doesn't know why I left ?! Really ? Hmmm not being acknowledged and maybe not knowing if I'm being seen and not on time . Not sure why kind of business you run there . But it's not the kind I will put up with mediocre service . No matter what the excuse is the customer comes first . That's the number one rule in hospitality . I got my hair done in Dominican Republic and they did an horrible job on my braids. I found the salon online after a friend recommended it to me from getting her hair done and they responded within 30 minutes. I first contacted them on a Friday and was seen on Monday at 10:00. The owner did an amazing job and braids my hair in record timing. SHe even offered to redo my front area in a couple of weeks. I walked in today because I saw a sign out front (never would have known it was here without the sidewalk sign). I waited for someone to come out to help me. Then another customer walked in with an appointment. All I had was a question but the woman working there helped the other customer first. I was treated like I didn't exist. The worker proceeded to walk into another room never said I will be right with you nothing. So I walked out since she acted like they don't need new customers. Its just a simple salon nothing high end. I'm surprised it has such good reviews but the customer service for potential clients is subpar.
