love Somisomi! I used to have it all the time when I lived in LA, so I was excited to get it again. It's such a great spot when you're craving something sweet. Their taiyaki is always a win -- I love that you can mix and match fillings. I got Oreo, matcha, black sesame, and hotteok, and every single one was delicious. Their soft-serve is also sooo good -- creamy, flavorful, and not overly sweet at all. Even though there was a line, they work super fast and everything is made fresh to order, which makes it totally worth the wait. Great staff, great food, and great vibes all around. Haven't been to this SomiSomi location in a really long time! I used to stop here all the time back in college when it first opened, but after moving away, I don't visit this location as often anymore. This place definitely gets busy. When I visited, there was a long line out the door, but the line actually moved pretty quickly. Honestly, when it's busy, that usually means the fishes are extra fresh! Personally, I like them when they're freshly made because they're super crispy on the outside and just a little soft on the inside. My friends actually prefer them a bit softer, but to each their own. The soft serve is still delicious, and I haven't had any issues with it so far. I also love how they rotate flavors. During this visit, they had caramel matcha and ube cream for the combos ...I can't remember the other flavor combo, but I'm sure it was good too. This is a decent SomiSomi to go to if you don't feel like going through the nightmare parking situation over in Diamond Jamboree Center location. Parking is still an inconvenience especially if you just wanted some soft serves and get going. Like it's fine if you were gonna go charge your car, get some errands done at Target, had other shops to browse, and decided to get some soft serve. Now the service itself has minimal wait and the quality is basically the same as you get from say out in Bella Terra or Garden Grove location. Not really anything extraordinary to write on my end, which is good, I guess. If you haven't been to SomiSomi before, I suggest the green tea soft serve and get some taiyaki SEPARATELY. The latter usually comes hot and fresh. Which is wonderful in itself. Just not on top of or to use it to hold the soft serve. I always have room for dessert--it's my second stomach! We ordered at the iPad and put in our name, and the service was super fast. They called us almost immediately. We got the Earl Grey soft serve with the upside-down taiyaki. One of the workers recommended adding Biscoff crumble to the Earl Grey, and we also added matcha powder. It was chef's kiss, absolutely delicious. There's no real seating inside except for a small bench, and the rest is standing room at the counter. Tried the ube and peach swirl with the taiyaki shell. Somi somi is pretty standard, not too sweet yummy soft serve. The peach is on the sweeter side, kind of like peach candy/syrup or a peach yakult drink ( less yogurty). Ube is mild but my preference as its more creamy and sweet. Matcha custard is light in flavor but a good classic filling. The taiyaki shell needed to be cooked a bit more as it was chewy. Not sure if its a recent change or if they ran out but no macaron shell/strawberry, it seemed like you could get multiple toppings. Good service & fast :). There are about 6 topping options. I often choose biscoff and fruity pebbles. This was my first time here, but I have visited other locations around Southern California. My first experience where we ordered on screens as well. There were 2 screens available and a short 5 minute line. It has been at least 6 months since I last visited any SomiSomi location. Good news is prices are still low and affordable. Quality is still solid as always. Portions are smaller. Smaller cup, less soft serve, less toppings, and no Strawberry or macaroon wS offered. I got the ube and matcha mix ice cream with nutella filling for the fish waffle. Whenever I'm in the area, Somisomi is a must. I walked in with my parents and there was no line at all. This wasn't our first time getting Somisomi, it's a family favorite of ours but it was our first time here at this location. All of us got the ah boong upside down with the cup. One of the swirls of the week was Cookies and Cream and Matcha, and we all got the same flavor. For mine, I added Oreo Crumbles and a cute little macaron too. It was very good, the Matcha flavor was earthy and delicious. This establishment nails the sweetness level, sweet but not overly sweet. I love how the extra toppings at the end are free as well. The taiyaki was tasty and a great compliment to the soft serve, it helped reduce the sweetness. Wait time was very quick. The cashier also prepared each of our soft serves and she was very kind and helpful. I did ask for a black sesame filling in my taiyaki but when I finished my taiyaki I realized I didn't get the black sesame filling, it was just plain. But other than that mishaps, service was still excellent. She was the only person I saw working behind the counter taking orders and preparing them as well so I don't blame her. My favorite flavor of self serve is ube with red bean filling. On a hot Summer day, take a moment to enjoy ice cream after walking around in the Spectrum is very relaxing. This location has 2 ordering kiosks. Even though there is only one person manning the counter, whoever is in the back cranked them fairly quickly. This review is late and this incident happened a few months ago, but I can't stop thinking about it. I stopped by Somisomi pretty late, almost at closing, but people were still coming in at that time. While staff were tidying up, the guy working on my taiyaki caught my attention -- he was on the heavier side, with long, unkempt hair. Honestly, I could barely see his face. He was wearing gloves to handle my food, but while my taiyaki was cooking, I watched him wheel a trash cart and use the SAME GLOVES to pick up my taiyaki. That was so unbelievably gross and unhygienic. I was exhausted that night so I didn't bother saying anything, but I could tell he looked miserable and totally uninterested in doing things right. It seemed like he hated being there. It's super unprofessional to touch non-food items (especially something that holds trash) and then handle food with the same gloves. That crosses a line in basic hygiene. I wanted to file a complaint with Orange County's Environmental Health Division because of this. Seriously, such terrible handling. Ugh. read more
