Stopped by Handel's Homemade Ice Cream at the Spectrum to get something to eat. There were only 2 people in front of me, but unfortunately the line moved slowly. They have about 30+ flavors, and I wanted to sample some but it just seemed like I would be holding up the line, as the ice cream is a little walk away from the counter and you can't see what's inside the cases. Anyways I went with the 4 scoop sampler. 4 scoop sampler ($8.75) - The price was reasonable and I went with pistachio, chocolate peanut butter brownie, graham central station, and knot your average dough. The pistachio here was really disappointing though in terms of flavor. Out of all the ones I had, I probably liked the peanut butter brownie one the most. If you do get ice cream from here, get ones that have items mixed in it for that extra surprise. Overall the ice cream was just middle of the road in terms of taste and it kind of reminded me of Baskin Robbins or the Rite Aid brand of ice creams I had when growing up. The setup needs to be improved or at least have more than 1 person working the counter. I really wanted to try some flavors, but didn't want to hold up the line. read more

TLDR: Quality control between branches may be an issue. I know this is a 5-star place, but it just didn't feel that way during my most recent visit. Chocoholic Chunk: They weren't lying. It's very chocolatey, the chunks were good, but the fudge inside wasn't doing it for me. Overall, I think it's worth a try, and it may very well be your favorite. Oh Dough: Cookie dough with peanut butter vibe chunks. I'm torn with this, because I like the complexity of tasting different things per bite, but I can't lock in on a taste that I can just enjoy. I'm sure some people love this, but this one isn't for me. Ambiance: It's a room dedicated to selling you good ice cream. Go in, taste, pay, leave. Service: It's very good. The ice cream is creamy and delicious. It was busy but the line moved quickly here. We enjoyed our ice cream and my hubby loved his waffle cone. Handel's ice cream is always good, but it's even better on Tuesdays, when you can get a small for $4! Love that their smalls are HUGE, more like two scoops - though you only get one flavor. I was surprised that it wasn't packed with customers on a Tuesday. Actually it is a quite bad experience. I went to Bacio the day before and the offered me three samples and I chose one. This time I did the same thing, I asked for 3 samples in Handels and decided to choose one, then when my 5 year old kid asked them for a second sample, they said they can't give us more samples. It is too sweat and I only ate two bites and through away others. It is just cheap but without good flavor and good service. Will never go there again. read more

This time I had the Lemon Bar flavor which is a, tangy-sweet lemon ice cream base swirled with a buttery graham cracker ripple and i also had the graham central station which is a graham cracker ice cream base, a graham cracker ripple, and chocolate-covered pieces. Wait isn't too long as it moves fairly fast. Very strategic to have it right next to kids area. Love the taro and banana cream pie. My son loves the sticky fingers. I've had the birthday cake before and if you can make frosting into ice scream--this would be it. They will let you sample the flavor. No seating area inside but some on the outside. He was very nice and let me sample multiple flavors. All was really good. I could taste the quality of the ingredients, flavors, and high quality creaminess of the ice cream. There was a little line but service was pretty fast, and the staff was friendly and took care of each request quickly. My lovely partner had the Taro (it's more like ube, but that's what my lady prefers anyways) and it had a nice flavor. We are Handel's regulars at other locations and this location is just not up to the same standard. The staff is very friendly and nice, but unfortunately that was the only positive. On my visit I sampled a few flavors and ultimately ordered a hurricane with M&M's. The flavors of the Ice Cream, while good, don't have as many mix ins as other locations. In San Diego they are known for generous portions but this location definitely is not. There was maybe one scoop of M&M in the hurricane that I ordered and it was well below the top of the cup. If you are walking into this location and evaluating it against other Ice Cream shops you will most likely be satisfied. If you have had any experience with Handel's and are expecting the same, you will be very disappointed. read more

Genuinely felt dehumanized here the employee couldn't look at or listen to me long enough to finish saying my order before walking away mid sentence and making the half of it he heard. I was honestly confused on if he was actually even helping me anymore and when he brought the half order to me he turned away before I could even ask if I need to stay in the line of guests to pay so I just stood there confused until he had to wave me over.
