This is truly one of my favorite ice cream shops I've been to, in a long time. First, the workers were very kind and answered any questions as a first time visitor. You can see the goldfish-shaped waffle being made fresh and even being asked what (if any) additional toppings to be added. Tried the ice cream and it's so smooth and creamy! they give you sooo much too ! You can actually ask for less ice cream which is nice to know. I got the ube and pistachio flavors. The pistachio kinda threw me off because it wasn't green and I didn't taste any pistachio flavor. The ube was def good. It came with a free topping of either strawberry or macaroon. I got the macaroon and topped my ice cream with biscoff which paired great ! Also couldn't leave without ordering the oreo filled taiyaki. Parking lot is super small, but was lucky enough to nab a spot. Service was very kind and there's a little standing bar area along the wall. What a perfect place for a sweet treat, this place is So Me, So Me (Somi Somi! Haha!) If I could review 6 stars, I absolutely would! The service was incredible, Tyler made sure of that. We were greeted with such enthusiasm and I felt right at home the second I walked in... I ordered the Matcha Ahboong with Nutella Filling and let me tell you something..... I was lured into SomiSomi for their Dubai Chocolate taiyaki. SomiSomi is a popular Korean dessert shop known for their fish-shaped waffle cones and taiyaki filled with fun flavors. I'm not sure if it was just a busy Friday night or the hype around the new Dubai Chocolate flavor, but the line was out the door. I have also been to the location in Mira Mesa, and this Convoy location is noticeably smaller since it shares space with another cafe. Due to the size, they offer fewer flavors here which was a bit of a bummer. Still, I was mainly there for the taiyaki so I didn't mind too much. I ordered the 5 taiyaki combo which lets you choose from flavors like matcha custard, custard, cheddar, red bean, Nutella, Oreo, and black sesame. The limited-time flavors were mint Oreo and the Dubai Chocolate, with the Dubai Chocolate costing an extra $1.95 per taiyaki. Our total came out to a little over $14. The taiyaki batter is really satisfying. It's cooked in a waffle-style press which gives it a crispy exterior while the inside stays soft and slightly chewy. I do wish they had a way to label the taiyakis because it ended up being a game of Taiyaki roulette, trying to find which was what without having to investigate it too much. I know other locations mark it on the box in relation to its order in the box. I loved the cheddar filling because it almost tasted like a grilled cheese inside a waffle. The red bean tasted authentic and not overly sweet. The Oreo filling was literally a whole Oreo pressed in the middle. The Dubai Chocolate was easily my favorite of the night. Usually Dubai chocolate desserts can lean way too chocolate-heavy and overly sweet, but the filling here had a really nice balance between pistachio and chocolate. Combined with the crunch from the kataifi and the chewy taiyaki batter, it ended up being a really fun and satisfying treat. read more

The employees are always very nice and they give you a lot of ice cream for the price. Parking is in a lot shared with other business but my friend and I managed to grab two spots on a Monday evening. This Convoy Street suite started out as Caffe Bene several years ago. The owners then transformed it into a more expansive Korean dessert stop. SomiSomi was the business to the right as you entered from the south side facing the parking lot. Soft serve ice cream was the first menu offering. Four base flavors and two swirl combinations were available with the latter being rotated weekly. The serving vessel could be a cup or ah-boong (fish-shaped waffle cone, normal or upside down). One of five fillings were then added to complete an order. The other dessert food was taiyaki which was a fish-shaped pastry using the same dough as ah-boong. Seven different fillings were featured. The taiyaki was sold in quantities of two or five. I bought two of them with custard as one filling and red bean as the other filling. You can watch the staff use a mold to form the pastry and then cook it on a cast iron griddle. The result was a photogenic, hot and fresh sweet treat. I liked the custard version better because of the creaminess. Outdoor seating was available as picnic tables in front of the entrance. Inside seating was shared with the business to the left that sold shaved ice, toast, coffee, and tea. This is a nice spot to go to for a late night sweet treat. They are open pretty late and around other good food spots. The parking is absolutely terrible. The line can also get ridiculously long. There is tables inside but also get filled pretty quick. They switch their flavors every so often & come out with new flavors too like earl grey which was terrible and very floral. SOMI SOMI @ CONVOY Parking is tight and it's small! It is however available for free and is shared with other businesses. Definitely be aware of how packed and busy it gets, luckily we got a spot within minutes of someone leaving. The line was pretty long when we got there on a Monday night at around 8:30 PM this place does close at around 10:30 PM so it's a great place to get some sweet treat! The line did go by pretty quickly and we ordered the upside down Ahboong, it was about $7, and you could choose their sortment of flavors from ice cream and filling to toppings. I decided to get the Matcha as well as the Nutella filling inside. there are not really many seatings in this place. It's more of like a high bar and you kind of just stand there while you eat. It's also opened to another store next-door. I believe that's like a restaurant, but you can clearly walk-through if you'd like to, as well as seating outside. we got our order pretty quickly. We just went on the end of the place and they pretty much just asked you like what toppings you'd like things like that. The girl that was helping us wasn't really nice. She was kind of just putting everything on there, and I asked if they also had strawberries cause I remember seeing it online on the menu which it was not distributed at all anywhere on the menu in person or also when we got to the topping station so she kind of just looked at me and was like yeah sure there in an annoyed way. I also needed napkins and noticed they ran out of napkins on the side of the counter and I asked her for any more napkins and she just pointed to me on the other side. Didn't bother to refill or say anything. she was not polite and it felt like we were kind of being rushed with our toppings and also just the service itself was not the best and that is what lost the star for me. however, the ambiance was great. It was very bright. All the tables were very dirty outside and inside, so I did not see any of the staff cleaning up or wiping the table so I definitely think that could be changed, especially since there are many guests coming in and out.
