Ambiance: beautiful big bar with Asian decor. I'm not sure about the underwater guy in the front though. Service: quick service and good came out with little wait. Food: there was a blend of Chinese-American, sushi and Thai. I typically do not go to restaurants that have that many Asian cuisines on their menu because it looks confusing to me. I normally choose more 'authentic' style restaurants. I want to state that so my review doesn't seem too harsh. 2 of my friends and I shared the crab rangoons, Peking duck and broccoli. Crab Rangoon was average but I did appreciate the sauce wasn't the typical sweet chili sauce. Our main had great crispy skin but the duck was dry. I was disappointed since it was $69 so I was expecting it to be a lot better. The broccoli had great taste but u was surprised that it was American broccoli and not Chinese broccoli. I understand it's Chinese American but maybe I should have read the description a little better. My friends did love it. Overall - the food was ok. The service was great.
Went here with a friend to try out the food, I've seen tiktoks about the menu and bar service and I have to say they live up to the hype. There was about a 5 minute wait and Jason at the front was kind of us to bring us some cold water to our table. The decor is so fun they have a lot of Asian inspired art on the wall and a sea diver in the front I had to grab a pic. Also shoutout to our waiters Liam and Anastasia who were so kind to give us recommendations for appetizers and drinks. The lemonade is so refreshing you gotta have it We ordered the crab ragoons, spicy dumplings and beef ribs to start. The crab ragoons was my favorite bite and I loved the peanut flavor on the spicy dumplings. The ribs were a little charred but the sauce helped. For our entrees we had some sushi rolls, the fish tasted very fresh and we left feeling so full. The menu here is solid and the vibes are chill I will be back in the future.
Songbird has such a beautiful, cozy vibe perfect for a rainy day. I stumbled upon this gem while searching for a sushi spot for lunch, and I'm so glad I did. We started with the fried chicken bao, which was saucy, crunchy, and paired perfectly with the soft, fluffy bao bun. My husband ordered the vegetable spring rolls, which he thought were just okay. Next, I had the Dynamic sushi roll, and it was excellent. The shrimp tempura inside was warm with the perfect crunch, which paired beautifully with the spicy tuna on top. For my entrée, I ordered the Singapore rice noodles, and they were by far the best I've ever had full of flavor and perfectly cooked. My husband had the fried rice with vegetables, and he really enjoyed his dish as well. We also tried the lychee cocktails, which were smooth and delicious, though a bit on the pricey side for my liking. As for the service, I have no complaints. Our food came out promptly, and our drinks were consistently refilled. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely come back to try more dishes on the menu.
We decided to give Songbird a try after looking at their menu. We were here on a Saturday around 4 p.m., and there were only two other occupied tables. An employee greeted us and he asked where we wanted to sit. We chose a table near the door. It had banquette seats as well as chairs. The decor here is somewhat quirky, especially the statue-like figure in a diving suit. To drink, my husband got a Tsingtao beer, and I got a yuzu-lime spritzer mocktail. I liked that mocktail as it was very refreshing. Our server was polite, friendly, and efficient. We both started with hot and sour soup. It was quite good, which we appreciated, especially since in recent times, we've had some less-than-stellar versions elsewhere. The soup had just enough "hot" and "sour" plus the amount of stock was generous. It was served to us along with a good-sized bowl of crispy noodles. For our entrees, we chose Ma Po Tofu and General Tso's chicken. We appreciated that all their chicken entrees have white meat. The Ma Po Tofu was a vegan version. It did have some spice, and we thought the amount of spice was just right. We also enjoyed the General Tso's chicken. It was properly prepared with just enough sauce. The portion was large, and we ended up taking some home with us. Each entree comes with jasmine rice, and we had enough left to take home with the chicken. Overall, we really liked the food, and we both agree that we will return.
Met up with friend for week day lunch - it was Easter / Spring break week, restaurant was surprisingly quiet - guess everyone out of town. Fine with us, less crowds the better. Ordered the Sichuan green beans, moo shu pork & Toyko rolls - the beans spicy & crunchy was my fav. I really wanted sashimi but there was no sampler platter, just by the piece. Gorgeous interior, nice spot for a date or just friends outing with the extensive drinks menu.
The atmosphere here is a vibe. Def a cool feel. However, the food was just okay. Tried their famous General Taos chicken and it was a bit disappointing. A lot of the pieces were just fried breading and the chicken overall was over fried and a bit dry. I liked the rib concept but it required the sauce since the char siu marinate wasn't completely there. The spider roll was just okay. Maybe I had too high expectations. Seems like a dope place for drinks. I'd try them again and see if it's any better.
It was a carry out order. But the restaurant itstif inside is really pretty and interesting. Nice car. Sitting states and decorations. Atmosphere is really chill. Service was great. Easy pick up. Free outdoor parking Food was good. I would say wings were not my fav. But i also got hot and sour soup, which was great. I got cucumbers, which were amazing. They were just slightly pickled with nice sesame seeds over them really delicious shrimp fried rice was good. Shrimp was really big and delicious. Rice seemed a little dry. Eggrolls were great. I would definitely return and try more things of the Manuel and I will also try to sit at the bar only because I really like the ambience.
I've been coming to Songbird for a while now--since they opened and took over the previous restaurant, Masala Wok. I loved their hot and sour soup. BUT after the rude and unprofessional front desk lady spoke to me when I tried to order the soup over the phone, that changed. She said it's "company policy" to order online, which is clearly not true. She was extremely condescending and abrasive. I know she's not the owner, but she's bad for business. I'll be finding another place for my hot and sour soup. Goodbye, Songbird.
Songbird is honestly a hidden gem that provides a dark and romantic vibe for a girls night out or just a casual night out with your partner. The atmosphere: Small and intimidate restaurant. Offers booth and bar seating, you'll get great experiences at both. The food: The five spice chicken wings are crispy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside. Served with a sweet sauce, comparable to fish sauce, it was the perfect starter. My friends and I shared the Sticky Crispy Beef and the Fried Rice. By far my favorite crispy beef that I have tried. The service: I can't say enough good things about how amazing, welcoming, and friendly everyone is here. The bartender, Nate (I think), was great too!
Came on a Sunday night and wasn't too crowded! They decorated the place very well, both for the Chinese American aspects and Christmas holidays. I had the HK Milk Tea Punch which was tasty, but don't really think it was worth $20 essentially. I had the sticky crispy beef which was pretty tasty alongside the free rice refills! Definitely more of Chinese American taste so expect that when you come here. Pretty atmosphere and would come again for Chinese American food, but maybe something that doesn't lean more towards traditional dishes/something that could be found cheaper at other Chinese restaurants.
Stopped by with friends for dinner. Located in a shopping plaza in fairfax, there's plenty of parking outside! Indoors is beautifully decorated with low dim lights. I was surprised how much smaller the dining room was compared to the outside building lol Menu consisted of Chinese American cuisine and sushi options! We ordered the mapo tofu, crispy beef, and general tso chicken. There's also a cool drink menu with unique Asian inspired recipes, which my friend said was good! Mapo tofu: this was okay.. you have to pay extra to get meat added which was interesting lol the flavor was okay. Crispy beef: flavor was amazing! Beef pieces were crispy & was pleasantly surprised on this portion size. General tso chicken: portion size was pretty good however I thought the chicken could have been crispier. The sauce was very sticky/ clumpy & wasn't really spicy imo. Service was friendly & was waited in fast (including food came out very fast!) + side is that there is free rice refills! Overall, it's a decent place depending on what you're craving. This place definitely is higher in prices compare to other Chinese American restaurant. I'd come back for the crispy beef if I was craving it but probably would not select songbird to get mapo tofu or general tso chicken.
Songbird has a great vibe with amazing decor accompanied with great food and amazing service. I came to Songbird extremely hungry and the portion sizes were so big that I ended up with leftovers. My favorite thing that I ate was probably the chicken lo mein. Everything was extremely flavorful. All of the servers were extremely attentive to us and made sure that we had everything we needed. Can't wait to come back! Just as an FYI Songbird is a small restaurant with only a few tables so keep that in mind. We went on a Saturday night and as it got busy there were no tables left. But they ended up doing is having people sit at the bar and move them over to tables as they became available.
first time here and i loved the atmosphere. the cocktails are yummy and made with love and care- you can taste it. for food we decided on the green beans and to share a few rolls. the green beans are a 10/10 the flavor is sweet and tangy and the green beans have a soft crunch. i enjoyed the rolls we ordered. there was a slight mix up with our rolls but not a big deal. i love the variety of different asian cuisines offered here and would like to come back to give them a try. waitstaff and bartender are a good vibe too! read more
It was a freezing Friday when we came in for an early dinner, about 5pmish after a long day of errands. Having no prior knowledge of this place, it sits unassuming in a plaza with other casual eats, which made for a nice surprise when you walk in. Dark, vibrant colors, beautiful plants, and tasteful decor throughout. We were seated in a comfortable booth across from the bar and sushi station, with soft music playing in the background and a perfectly warm temperature. We ordered a variety of dishes to share: green tea, a Yin-Yang highball, shrimp tempura sushi, tots, wings, and sesame chicken. Every dish was delicious, but the sushi stood out with the perfect "crunch". The cocktail menu was filled with unique and intriguing options, sparking our curiosity to return and try them all. I was intrigued by this place and it did not disappoint. The portions were smaller than I'd like but ambience was perfect, lighting was just bright enough, and booths felt secluded enough, staff was excellent and the drink was fantastic, a Negroni with a Japanese whiskey. Delightful. read more

I've been meaning to try this place for quite some time and I finally tried it this weekend. Ambiance- 9/10- very well decorated, I think that it would be a good place for a date night or list to hangout at the bar since it is open until 2 AM some nights. Service- 9/10 -our server was very kind and transparent about how the coconut shrimp may be too sweet for some people and let us know before hand Food- 8/10- food came quickly and it was good but some dishes did seem a little expensive for the portion we got. But we did enjoy the coconut shrimp and moo shop pork a lot. Overall, I think it is worth a try if you like Chinese, Thai or sushi. read more

Went here with friends for a Friday night dinner after many recommendations from several colleagues. Well worth it. We luckily managed to get a booth for 4 after a brief wait. We each got cocktails, along with the Pupu Platter, the spicy green beans, drunken noodle combo, and the sticky beef. All very good. Will def be back read more
This place had been on my list for a while and I finally had a chance to pop in. I sat at the bar, right before a bday party of nearly 20 came in to the bar. Honestly, they were super friendly and didn't mind that I was sitting in the middle of their festivities. Actually, what I appreciated the most was the host that sat me giving me a heads up that they were coming in soon! As an introvert, I was able to prepare my mindset for the crowd. The Black Magic cocktail helped with that preparation, as well. Haha! It was so good that I forgot to take pics of my food. Oops. I ordered combo fried rice and pan seared dumplings. My gosh! That food was so darn good! I tried to order egg drop soup to go but they were sold out! No problem. Just gives me an excuse to make another trip out to fairfax soon! My bartender was very attentive and worried that I wasn't enjoying my experience. I forget his name but please know that I had a great time and can't wait to come back! We didnt get to chat it up this visit but maybe next time! I appreciate the empathy! I loved the vibe and the decorations! The disco ball had my attention as soon as I walked in! I had been wanting to try this place for a while. It is very small inside but cute. We sat at the bar all seats were filled inside so they stay busy. Cute date night spot. We had general taos chicken and sesame chicken along with the crab Rangoon which was my favorite thing of the night. The drinks are good and strong and it's an art watching the bartenders make the drinks. I wish I could have got broccoli with my meal but that is a separate meal as stir fry. I had a good time here. Songbird is truly a hidden GEM ! We stumbled upon this spot after we visited the Hazy Air & Space museum! Songbird sits at the end of a strip and you would never suspect such a place hiding in plain site! We walked in and were stunned by the ambiance and decor! It was easily the cutest restaurant we've been to since moving to the DMV area. The entire place was such a nice vibe! The decor looked so curated, like someone took their time and picked out every piece! I loved it so much! When we asked about the decor, the service was so nice in explaining how they pick out everything! Now let's get down to the nitty gritty, the food! I kid you not, everything was absolutely delicious! It should be criminal to be this cute and serve food that good! We ordered the Crab Rangoon & Sweet/Sour Cucumbers to start, both were so so good! Some of the best crab rangoon we've ever had! Not too sweet, and just enough crab! The cucumbers were so delicious too, sweet and tangy! For entrees we got the Sticky Crispy Beef & General Tso's Chicken! First of all the portions are definitely family style, which we loved! Just enough to enjoy and take some home! This spot is so cool! The ambiance is amazing you'd never know this was in a strip mall from the inside. It feels like a hip hidden gem place you'd find in DC. They are open late night which makes this a perfect place for dinner or a night cap! The cocktails were expertly crafted and our server was able to make a great cocktail recommendation for me (lychee Pearl) and my friend. The food was amazing and the presentation was beautiful! We shared the crispy beef and sesame chicken the portions were also large which was perfect because we came hungry! I can't wait to return. read more
Went as a group of 4 and the place was poppin! It took a while for us to get seated after getting our name on the waitlist but once we did, our wonderful server kept us energized and looking forward to our meal. We went with a little bit of everything: Meats with the Mongolian Combination (good, but nothing particularly special about this dish) Seafood with the coconut shrimp (everyone was pleasantly surprised by how light and delicious this turned out to be) Noodles with the Dan Dan Noodles (spicier than expected, delicious, but would've liked more sauce) And something out of the ordinary with the pork floss tater tots (a crowd favorite!!) We were satisfied with the service and the food. I didn't get to try any drinks but those who did said they were pretty good (although unsure if they would get them again). Parking was a little difficult to find just because the lot was fairly full, but we all managed to find parking despite how busy it was. read more

A group of us had dinner here on a Tuesday night and they were doing pretty well. It is a small location that replaced Masala Wok. The inside is very quaint and pretty. There are some very interesting and unique drinks on the menu here. We learned that clarified milk has no dairy. The service was great. They were very attentive, and the dishes came out as they were made. The appetizers are on the smaller side so it's easy to share family style. Everything we ordered was fantastic. read more

We came on a Thursday night for dinner and experienced only a slight wait for a table. We had heard positive things about the duck here so we endeavored to try it. We also tried a couple other menu items which were all good but unfortunately the duck meat was dry. The skin was semi-crispy and the pancakes either stuck together or dried up/hardened quickly. Quantity seemed generous. The service was also very attentive and pleasant. I saw this place is open until 2AM, but even at 8PM, the music became louder and the disco ball came on. Not really the setting for traditional diners - could have at least waited until 10PM to crank up the vibe? We frankly hurried through the end of our dinner to leave because it was too loud. read more

What a gem in Fairfax! If you are there with just 2 people, sit at the bar. It's a nice vibe, I personally like to watch them make drinks. Their drinks are so good too. I got the chrysanthemum margarita and wow!!! So unique. I loved it. And so pretty too. Food solid! The pork dumplings are delicious and juicy. The Dan Dan noodles, spicy!!!! The sushi was good too, but I forgot which one we got. Everything we order has been really good! We brought our friends here and they enjoyed too. We will definitely be back again! read more

I love the decorations and vibe inside! We also got to talk with the owner briefly and he was really nice and it was cool hearing him talk about the drinks and seemed like a chill guy. He also gave us some fried wonton skins to snack on while we drank which was perfect with alcohol and a goodbye shot which should go on his main menu! Was super balanced, smooth and a little sweet 4.5/5 I will definitely be back for a late night drink with friends again~ Mango sticky bird - 4.5/5 this is one of my new favorite cocktails! Good balance of not too sweet, light mango flavor, light milkiness and a nice taste and smell of Pandan! Lychee pearl - 3.5/5 pretty sweet and yummy! Nothing to special but good HK milk tea punch - 3.5/5 alcohol flavor was much stronger in this one than in the mango sticky bird. Still good Midnight sun - 1/5 this is a me issue because I never had a spicy cocktail before and realized it's a bit too unique for me. It's like a spicy lemonade, not too spicy at all Disco tots - 3/5 cooked well, good crispy, surprisingly yummy Cucumber - 3/5 good but definitely on sweet more than pickled Spicy wonton - 3/5 unique. What can I say about this gem that I haven't already said to all my friends? I call this my personal room of requirements as it has everything I need at the perfect time. Hard day and need a shot and beer? Songbird. Need a spot for a girls night? Songbird. Last minute cozy date night/night cap? Songbird? Can't sleep but craving some great company and amazing cocktails? Songbird. The service is top notch here; they can read the room and know when to give you & your guests space but also know when they can send an extra beverage suggestion or food suggestion if needed. I find myself craving their General Tsos chicken as it's probably my favorite in the area; perfect bite size, super tender chicken, and the perfect amount of sauce to finish off your bowl of rice. The wok seared broccoli is also a favorite as well; I don't know what kind of magical wok they use but the flavor of the wok sear is incredible. The drinks are magical here. Truly magnificent and perfect concoctions for any flavor profile. Equally if you want something else, the staff here are so skilled I am sure they can certainly whip up something else. You really can't go wrong here. Plenty of parking, amazing smelling bathroom, and great music. Come early, stay late, and dance to the disco ball. Love this place. I am a fan and I probably can't sing enough praises of Songbird. Thank you for bringing a great place to the area. read more

It was super cute inside, I loved the theming. The service was outstanding!! The girls that served us were so nice and were able to make my partner an off the menu drink. The food is definitely to die for. It came out so hot it burned our mouths. We got the General Tso's Chicken, the Mapo Tofu with pork, and a Tiger Roll. It was all delicious. Stopped by late last night. Got in at 11:15. Originally they told us that kitchen was closed, but then our server so generously went back and said they could do last call. Super nice of them. The vibe of the place is very street Asian. There's lights, it's vibrant, they're blasting some great music. The bar looked like they had some awesome drinks too, but we didn't order any. We got: The general Tso's chicken - absolutely amazing. Best we've had we agreed Drunken noodles - very good. Lots of flavor. Decent kick Mongolian combination - super flavorful. Had a nice little sweeter flavor that paired well with rice. We agreed our favorite dish of what we ordered. Very fun place, nice staff, and a cool owner. Saw some of the other reviews, not too sure what lead a few of them to their negative perception, but I would definitely say we had a great time and a great meal and would come back. read more

First time visiting here. We were in the area for our anniversary outing and after looking up places on Yelp, decided to give here a try. It was around 3pm on a Thursday, their lunch specials had just ended at 3pm. Not many tables so it was kinda busy. The guy at the front took a while to greet us and asked if we wanted to sit at the bar but we said no, we prefer a booth so he said he would need to clean one which also took a little while. The food was not what we were expecting at all. We had their "famous" General Tso's chicken, shrimp fried rice and Singapore noodles with beef, shrimp and chicken. I'm not sure why the General Tso's is called famous because it was just ok and most of the pieces were small and did not look like all white meat. We're from MD so maybe we're just used to a better tasting and appearing meals. The best part of the meal was the shrimp fried rice. The Singapore noodles were the blandest I have ever tasted in my life, no seasoning whatsoever. I wanted sushi but the waiter told me there was no one to make the sushi that day. My husband ordered a Long Island Iced Tea that came in the smallest glass, filled with ice which was wayyyy overpriced for $17 each. The waiter barely came back to check on us but seemed to be occupied with 2 ladies sitting at the bar. We had to ask for refills and boxes multiple times. If you want great food and drinks for only a fraction of the price, save yourself the time and money and go to Coastal Flats right down the street (we went there for dinner, 10,000 times better than here!!!) read more

This spot is phenomenal. The ambiance is part fun (disco ball!), part vintage Chinese inspired (bamboo, tapestry's, unique art) & appealing aesthetically, as well as very clean! Service: everyone in the restaurant helped out. It's a very family-oriented place and you get the sense that they treat each other with respect. Everyone who works there pitches in to help and assist their clientele--no job is beneath them. We were given excellent recommendations by every staff member and everyone was so knowledgeable about the cocktails and food. The owners even cook the food, run the food, make the cocktails & act as waiters/waitresses. This made it seem so down to earth and welcoming. Food: we got the pu pu platter, edamame, wonton soup, miso soup for apps--all excellent. My husband got some nigiri he said was tasty (very simple, excellent quality fish) and I got the dynamic roll with shrimp tempura. The shrimp inside was soooo crispy, not soggy at all & it was a delicious roll. We also got the shrimp drunken noodles and sticky crispy beef--wow--showstoppers. I want to go back to try the general tsos and lo mein--all of which look delicious. Cocktails: NOVA is lacking cocktails like this. New York City inspired cocktails, really well-balanced and interesting. Unique but approachable. The milk punch was sooooo drinkable & the black Negroni was velvety, a bit oaky, bitter as it should be, but still thoroughly balanced. My husband doesn't even like Negronis and he stole mine, he liked it that much. Highly recommend. You'll leave feeling like family & want to run back to try more. Some of the BEST I have had for delivery on Uber Eats!! This Chinese restaurant is AMAZING!!! OMG!! The Moo Shu pork is simply DELICIOUS with their wonderful thin crepes and side of plum sauce!! I also ordered the Singapore noodles with chicken and NO SPICE...only because I cannot handle spice after contracting COVID three times!!! Anyhow, the NO spice was spicy was enough for me so be warned if you are sensitive to the spice factor. However, the "service" from Uber Eats was great and the food was still wonderful!! I would still drive to this restaurant and order from here again!! read more

Had a great time at Songbird. I was surprised this type of trendy restaurant opened up in Fairfax and not NYC! After speaking to the restaurant owner, we learned he and his wife were bartenders in NYC before they decided to open up this restaurant. The cocktails are fantastic here. You can tell the owners are bartenders because their curated drinks are artistically made and tasty! We also ordered the crispy chicken buns and sushi. Everything was delicious and fresh. I liked the sushi chefs little station off to the side next to the bar. I love the restaurant decor. It seemed like we were on a funky Asian ship located on the docks of NYC if that makes any sense- basically everything was very trendy. And, apparently at night, the restaurant will break out the disco ball for the youngsters. The decor read more

I had high hopes, and wanted to love Songbird, but it's just not a good restaurant. Before we get into the underwhelming food, the booth seats were super uncomfortable to sit in. Because they used a very thin material for the back of the seats, which are connected to the adjacent tables, we felt every movement anytime someone in the seats behind us moved or leaned back. It was like sitting on an airplane seat with someone constantly kicking the back of it. After enduring that pain for an hour, with mediocre food, it's safe to say that I will never return. The general tso's chicken was disappointing. For a featured dish, it just wasn't good. It was crispy, but the flavor didn't hit the mark. You can find better general tso's at a mall food court. The peking duck was just ok - skin was sort of crispy, but the meat was on the drier side. I also didn't like the way it was sort of dumped onto the plate - presentation matters. The pancakes also became dry as we were eating it because they took the plate cover away. The plum sauce was good, though. It was nice how they provided as many bowls of rice/pancakes/cucumbers&scallions as we needed. The service was ok, but slow. They seemed to have a good amount of servers and not that many tables... I honestly regret coming here, and do not recommend dining here or even ordering take out. The quality of the food is not worth the high price tag. read more
