Overall, a disappointing experience. I met a three friends for lunch here today. Two of us are pescatarian. Options for us were limited. We split the mapo tofu and a plate of mixed vegetables. The others got the general tso's chicken and the moo shu pork. None of the entree plates came with any vegetables. The tofu and the vegetables were bland and uninteresting. Had a great time at Songbird. I was surprised this type of trendy restaurant opened up in Fairfax and not NYC! After speaking to the restaurant owner, we learned he and his wife were bartenders in NYC before they decided to open up this restaurant. The cocktails are fantastic here. You can tell the owners are bartenders because their curated drinks are artistically made and tasty! We also ordered the crispy chicken buns and sushi. Everything was delicious and fresh. I had high hopes, and wanted to love Songbird, but it's just not a good restaurant. Before we get into the underwhelming food, the booth seats were super uncomfortable to sit in. Because they used a very thin material for the back of the seats, which are connected to the adjacent tables, we felt every movement anytime someone in the seats behind us moved or leaned back. It was like sitting on an airplane seat with someone constantly kicking the back of it. After enduring that pain for an hour, with mediocre food, it's safe to say that I will never return. The general tso's chicken was disappointing. For a featured dish, it just wasn't good. It was crispy, but the flavor didn't hit the mark. You can find better general tso's at a mall food court. The peking duck was just ok - skin was sort of crispy, but the meat was on the drier side. I also didn't like the way it was sort of dumped onto the plate - presentation matters. The pancakes also became dry as we were eating it because they took the plate cover away. The plum sauce was good, though. It was nice how they provided as many bowls of rice/pancakes/cucumbers&scallions as we needed. The service was ok, but slow. They seemed to have a good amount of servers and not that many tables... First time visiting here. We were in the area for our anniversary outing and after looking up places on Yelp, decided to give here a try. It was around 3pm on a Thursday, their lunch specials had just ended at 3pm. Not many tables so it was kinda busy. The guy at the front took a while to greet us and asked if we wanted to sit at the bar but we said no, we prefer a booth so he said he would need to clean one which also took a little while. The food was not what we were expecting at all. We had their "famous" General Tso's chicken, shrimp fried rice and Singapore noodles with beef, shrimp and chicken. I'm not sure why the General Tso's is called famous because it was just ok and most of the pieces were small and did not look like all white meat. We're from MD so maybe we're just used to a better tasting and appearing meals. The best part of the meal was the shrimp fried rice. The Singapore noodles were the blandest I have ever tasted in my life, no seasoning whatsoever. I wanted sushi but the waiter told me there was no one to make the sushi that day. My husband ordered a Long Island Iced Tea that came in the smallest glass, filled with ice which was wayyyy overpriced for $17 each. The waiter barely came back to check on us but seemed to be occupied with 2 ladies sitting at the bar. We had to ask for refills and boxes multiple times. If you want great food and drinks for only a fraction of the price, save yourself the time and money and go to Coastal Flats right down the street (we went there for dinner, 10,000 times better than here!!!) read more

Some of the BEST I have had for delivery on Uber Eats!! This Chinese restaurant is AMAZING!!! OMG!! The Moo Shu pork is simply DELICIOUS with their wonderful thin crepes and side of plum sauce!! I also ordered the Singapore noodles with chicken and NO SPICE...only because I cannot handle spice after contracting COVID three times!!! I wish I had photos to share from my experience here at Song Bird. The food was amazing. We had the dan dan noodles (had to get 2 orders because we couldn't get enough). The cucumbers, miso soup, pad thai with chicken, chicken bao, and green beans. This was enough for 4 people to share and be full. I also had the chance to try their old fashion. The drinks are thoughtfully curated, intricate and delicious. The bartender was also our server and he is super knowledgeable and excited about the drinks. The restaurant is gorgeous and a vibe. Perfect for date night. Unfortunately, we couldn't try any of the sushi because their sushi chef wasn't in so we were a little disappointed by that. Beware that it was our turn much earlier than originally conveyed, so waiting in the car may be a good idea. Regarding the food, they mean spicy when they say spicy. If you are a "softie" like me, I would shy away from the shrimp wontons with chili oil. Great experience getting takeout from Songbird. My friend and I loved the spicy wontons, sticky crispy beef, dumplings, and General Tso's chicken. Our takeout was ready at the estimated time. The nigiri tasted fresh. In the future I would comment a request for extra spicy because we believed the "spicy" option wasn't spicy, but still fantastic flavor. I took my son here for lunch on a random weekday. Great customer service, good food, terrific cocktails. Ambiance - I loved the vibe. Beautiful light fixtures. It was quiet since we were the first ones in there. The bathroom was clean, which is a plus in my book. Food/Drinks - Meh. My panang curry was a little on the salty side and could've used a bit more coconut milk. The cocktails were delicious though. Service - Very good. New restaurant recently opened in Fairfax. The restaurant doesn't necessarily stand out from the outside but the interior has a great ambiance. Staff were extremely welcoming from the moment you walk in. Service was also pleasant and very helpful, although I didn't have many questions about the menu. The menu is a combination of Chinese and Thai cuisine. I ordered the General Tso Chicken and kept things simple. My dish came out very fast after ordering. The chicken had great flavors and was perfectly sweet with a crispy light breading. I also ordered an Old Fashioned which was a great pairing with my dish. Songbird is hands down one of my favorite spots. I've been here multiple times and the food is always consistently amazing. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing with friends, which makes it a great place to come with a group. The cocktails are super creative too. The interior is really chic and stylish. It has a vibe that you won't find anywhere else. I even had the chance to meet one of the owners on a visit, which made me love the place even more. It's a family-run restaurant and you can tell everyone's pitching in and really cares. That's probably why everything feels so thoughtful and well done. First of all, let me say that the food was very good. However, there were some aspects of our dining experience that unfortunately detracted from that. A small thing but, my husband and I both ordered a club soda thinking that it would be the typical large glass of seltzer from the machine, but instead we got some Lilliputian bottles that cost four dollars each. I'm not morally opposed to paying for club soda, but it kind of irked me how tiny they were and that our server didn't mention this when we ordered them. My husband and I also ordered a volcano punch bowl to share. Now mind you, on the menu, this is listed as a drink for two. When our server brought us the drink, she attempted to ceremoniously light part of it on fire (hence the name volcano bowl), but she accidentally flipped a heavy item in the air which almost hit me in the face. I was shocked, but grateful that no one had been hurt. She apologized and left us to our meal. The volcano bowl itself was good, but was VERY small (barely a drink for one, let alone a drink for two) and consisted mainly of ice. I expected more for the $36 price tag. Alone, none of these things is a dealbreaker, but together --they can leave a bad taste in one's mouth. It would've been nice for the manager to come over and apologize for the drink mishap or offer to comp something, but nothing like that happened. I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time. Both time that I went, it was pretty busy with the bar and the regular seating area. It's a cute place with only indoor seating and plenty of parking outside. They have a lot of drink and food options - everyone is bound to find something they like. I will say the service isn't great and the food comes out whenever it's ready. This is probably my biggest complaint. The first time I went was only with one other person and we shared everything. It wasn't as bad that the food came out at different times, but when I went with a group of 8 people and no one shared, it was a bigger annoyance. The food was so good so it's not that I wouldn't go back, but I definitely won't go back with a large group. I'm not sure if it's something you can tell them and ask for food to come out at the same time - but definitely awkward for half the group to have food and the other half had to wait for theirs. Then when we were trying to split the tab (told ahead of time our split) and that was a long process too. Anyways, to the good stuff -- the food! The general tsos is light and flavorful. Similar to most I've had but you can tell it's lighter with whatever batter they use to fry the chicken. Coconut shrimp were large and I loved the flakes on it. The sushi was fresh and did take the longest to come out so I would recommend putting that in first. I didn't love the fried chicken bao's, I thought they were just okay. I loved the tots!
