I drove from Reading to get some Sonic and arrived at 9:40. They had completely closed off the drive-thru and told me that I could not order. I better wear a flack jacket after writing this review. Everyone I know LOVES Sonic... like a bad habit. I think it's all the SALT and SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR that's in their food. It's basically cafeteria quality, at best. Comparable burgers would be burgers at 7-11 or CircleK. I tried one of their cherry lime drinks... nothing but syrup. I had to add a can of seltzer. Everyone has their favorite junk food joint, this just isn't one of mine. That's ok, I don't need another junk food restaurant on my circuit. Some good points... they have a drive-in. Milkshakes and Carhops Rock Fun old school drive-in where you can park and have a carhop on roller skates bring you your food (don't forget to tip them). Tater tots have greasy tender middles with a crunchy shell. Coney island extra long chili cheese dog is such a guilty pleasure, sometimes I get it just with cheese. The cranberry cooler and vanilla milkshakes are the biggest draw for me. The milkshakes are rich, thick and creamy old style goodness. Don't forget Happy Hour, all drinks are half off from 2-4pm. Eh, I honestly don't know what all the buzz is about. The popcorn chicken (#10) was not unsucculent, but simply too much batter for the platter. The tots: avoidably oversalted. First time to Sonic. Enjoyed the fast service. Used the drive-up and park option which was nice. If you face out towards the South (stalls on the right hand side), you have a nice view of Mt Lassen on a clear day and the Anderson Valley. Thought the food was good for the price. Cherry Slushie was great! The order taker over the intercom was VERY patient with us as we fumbled through the menu. The car-hop girl was very nice and polite. They charged us $1.00 per sauce with the popcorn chicken, an extra $3.50 for chili cheese tots and the box was over half empty, the okie dough blast was inedible because of the peanut butter in it that wasn't supposed to be. Well, their food is not what you go for...unless its the small things...tator-tots, fries, corn dogs...their ice cream, and things like that. Other then that just stay away from their food. Their drinks are the reason to go. They have awesome drinks, at awesome prices. So go for the drinks...and the smaller food items. Anytime that I have a problem, they have always taken care of it. During a recent road trip, I had to stop here because I've seen Sonic commercials on TV for years but never actually seen a Sonic! So when we saw one around lunch time, we decided to stop. It was a pretty cool experience for someone who had never been to one before. You drive up to a station and park and place your order. Someone on roller skates brings your food out to your car! I thought that was kind of cool, and the food tasted a little better than your typical fast food. It was a little overpriced. It was nice to be lazy and not have to get out of the car, and also not have to wait in a drive-through line. When we were eating, another employee came out to our car to ask if we'd like any more napkins or try any other sauces. The customer service seemed pretty good! read more

If you've ever had cranberry coke you'd know that it's the bomb-diggity and an apparent craving for me and my husband. I have to be honest, I was a bit surprised by the experience my family and I had at the Sonic in Anderson, CA. When my son asked for some ice cream, my father, SURPRISINGLY, suggested that Sonic was the place to go. We have all seen the dorky, but funny, commercials, but is it any good? When we got there, it is a bit hard to figure out if you have never been. Your options are patio service ordered through a 'drive-thru style menu' or using car hops on roller skates. There are like 20 milk shake options to choose from and we tried four - all were awesome. I also succumbed and tried the cheesy bacon hot dog on a pretzel bun; my son tried the corn dog. While the quality of the actual hot dog is definitely suspect, the overall taste wasn't that bad! I am not going to be a frequent Sonic customer, but it definitely will hit the spot when required! I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE REVIEWS! This place has amazing drinks yes, most of the time! I still enjoy sonic they have good deals and have some of the best drinks. I have found hair in my food once, while I was with a friend another time (I didn't get anything cause the last time) and she found a hair in her food! Were talking big long hairs people! Another incident I got a straw berry slush which I get from there quite frequently and it had almost no flavoring so I opened it and it had strawberrys on the bottom and top but was just plain ice? Even worse! When I opened it I was mixing it and there was ANOTHER HAIR. Not to mention the service. I hate getting bad customer service and this place drives me up the wall! I get you don't wanna be here but when you take my order you don't have to sound pissed off and like you hate oyt job. Like It won't kill you to smile. Almost all the employees are like this! They bring down my mood! I have had TWO employees give me good service and it's was Anthony and I believe Val. And if I had cash I would have tipped and I have tipped Anthony because good customer service keeps people coming back it's the key to any business! I still get drinks from here constantly, just not food. I will make the short drive from redding to Anderson just to get a strawberry lemonade from sonic because there's no one else in town! Except red robin! (THEY ALSO MESS UP ALL THE TIME AND GIVE ME LIMEAID) and they should do little things like double check that someone wanted lemonade in stead of limaid! All and all is think this place is only good for their drinks and their employees should really step up their game. Have you ever had one of those totally embarrassing moments you wish you could take back? I did, the first time I went to a Sonic. It was a cold, dreary day and I wanted to sit inside. That's right, turns out there is no "inside" at a Sonic. Derp. This explains why the people in their commercials are always sitting in cars. As for the food, I enjoy it. It reminds me of the old A&W stands. Not the newer ones with the KFC's, but the original, stand alone A&W's. Good solid road food. My first time going to this place and the last. We placed our order through the intercom which kept cutting out. While I'm waiting I go to use the washroom and you could tell it had recently flooded with sewage and the 15 kids that work there couldn't take the time to clean it.........yup i used it regardless cause I had to go. I get back and we already had our food and they forgot ketchup so i run in to ask for some and the kid on the microphone gives me attitude and tells me to wait..........two minutes go by and im getting angry cause my food is getting cold. This nice girl rolls over in skates and helps me out. Ok great, so i run back to the truck to find out that they got all of our drinks wrong so now im really fuming. Absolutely less than mediocre and will not be back. 4 pieces of chicken the size of a finger were given in a 5-piece order. No sauce was given, even though requested. I do love me some Sonic! Stopped by this location on my way to and from Oregon. The first stop was for breakfast, it was around 9 a.m. on a Saturday, it wasn't to crowded. We pulled into a stall to order our food and use the bathroom, the speaker was on super high volume which was not so pleasant. A short time later the pleasant car hop brought our food out and it was as ordered. I have been to a few different Sonic locations and the food has always been consistent in flavor and portions. On the way back down from Oregon we again stopped here, I was in need of that delicious mocha java chiller. This time we went through the drive-thru, service was quick and our order was correct. Good experience overall and I will be stopping by again on my next trip up the 5! read more

Came for the 2-for-1 milkshake special, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the shakes, but I didn't care for the ordering system on the patio (where you have to order thru a speaker, like at Jack-In-The-Box except you're not in a car). My review is based off employees not doing their job and actually making sure what was ordered is made/in the bag. We have gone there twice now and both times part of the order was wrong or missing something. The first time, 3 items out of 5 were missing!!!! I hate making people wait, so I took off and parked in a lot close by to go thru it all and realized over half my order was not given to me. I had my son in the car and he was sick, so leaving him to go inside was definitely not an option! So, I went back around the bldg and waited and waited for 15 min till I could get back to the window to show them my receipt and what I got in the bag and pointed out how much they did not give me. They fixed it right away, but that was just ridiculous! Just got back from the 2nd attempt. All I ordered was in the bag...AMAZING CONCEPT! But I ordered a grilled cheese...just a normal grilled cheese and how in the world could any place or anyone mess that up!?!?!? Well! This Sonic made effort to mess it up. I got a big wade of bacon! I am vegetarian for one, so that was just vile, but 2. nowhere on the menu did it even have the option for a bacon grilled cheese, even if that's what I wanted! Where da fuq did anyone think bacon should be added to this?!?!?!?? Even the order the girl read back to me in detail dd not include bacon on it. It was totally baked into the bread and cheese, so I tossed it and ate no dinner till i got home.
